[Q] Hyperdrive RLS 14 on VZW ME7? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I have not updated my Hyperdrive since 10.2 and decided it was about time I caught up. I am on ME7 now and attempted to flash the new ROM but my phone will no longer boot. I have been able to boot into my stock rom with safestrap so I am not bricked by any means...
What's the process from here to get caught up to Hyperdrive 14?
I am currently in the process of installing 10.2 since I still have that .zip available to me.

Hyperdrive RLS14 requires the 4.3 kernel, so you must update to MJ7 or MK2 before you install it.

I thought that might be the problem, where can I find the 4.3 kernel since I don't think I can update OTA.

You can't update the kernel alone. That's why I said that you have to update to MJ7 or MK2 first.
Flash the no-wipe MJ7 image using ODIN. That'll get you to MJ7 while keeping apps and data intact. Then you can re-root, re-Safestrap, and install RLS14.

Install CWM on MJ7

I currently have stock rom and recovery and kernel rooted and want cwm so I can finally get a custom rom installed ^^. How would I install cwm?
And how would I install this rom properly:

You can't. I suggest you look at some of threads talking about boot loaders.... Safestrap . mj7 is fully locked down. Hash code is working on porting his safestrap to work on 4.3 bases

Sadly, this gets repeated over and over:
If you upgrade past MDK, you can't bypass the bootloader, which means you can't install custom recovery or custom kernels.
Once you install a release, you usually can't install any prior release (the only exception is that MK2 can be downgraded to MJ7).

Flashing roms on mj7/mdk safestrap

Is the only way right now to flash a rom is to delete all data in stock slot on ss then flash a compatible rom? I dont want to have to lose my data to do this.

Officially there is no way to flash a custom ROM on MJ7. Unofficially i have heard of some people doing this, but i HIGHLY DONT RECOMMEND IT! This is because if you screw something up there is a high chance of bricking. For now i would advise you to wait until Hashcode has ported safestrap over to MJ7.

Well it's just that Safestrap for 4.3 is in beta right now. It is risky and unless you don't care if you brick the phone or are really experienced I would wait it out.

I agree...unless you don't need your phone or like to reflash and do Odin...its beta and hashcode does his development step by step. Loading Roms and having issues with a beta release won't speed the process. Pay attention to what hashcode wants...I'm just saying

Safestrap 3.71 is working with safestrap and RLS 11& RLS12 is working flawlessly. I have it in slot 2 on my S4. I highly reccommend flashing only stock kernel with installer then installing MJ7 patch before initial boot then changing kernel if need be.
Let me know if this helps!

I just got done about 2 days ago with moving to mj7 via the non wipe Odin file, then OTA'd to mk2, rooted with the safe root process, installed safe strap 3.71, installed HD12 and moved it to the stock side.
I gotta say I'm definitely impressed with HD12 and how smooth it is.

[Q] Modules for safestrap?

Hi guys,
If I already have a mk2 verizon s4, would I still need to flash the mk2 modules after flashing a mk2 base rom (hyperdrive rls 14)? I have gotten both answers- Yes, flash and No, don't flash- and I am not sure which one is actually correct.

I'm also a Safestrap user and I ALWAYS flash the MK2 kernel modules. I'm pretty sure you have to, but I'm not positive. Like I said I always flash the modules and I haven't had any problems .

if you are running safestrap, you have to flash the kernel modules for your specific build base.

That would only be the case if you took the highly risky case of flashing over the stock ROM using Safestrap. If you flash to a non-stock slot, you must always flash the relevant kernel modules.

Soft Brick perhaps?

Backstory:
So last night my phone turned off by itself and wouldn't turn back on. My first thought it something with the ROM. So I boot to recovery and start a backup before I try to wipe/format etc. Long story short, it ended up being the battery just ate sh*t. So I got a new battery from Verizon, after I tried to ODIN back to stock though...
Problem:
I was on Hyperdrive RLS15, and I tried to Odin open1your1eyes MDK NoWipe. But my phone is just hanging on the Verizon screen. (it has been over half hr) My phone is MDK base (no safestrap), is that the right thing to flash? Is there anything else I have to do?
Thanks in advance, and forgive my naiveness. :silly:

The name scared me (MKD) until I realized it was just a typo.
EDIT: A mod should really fix that. It's been like that since September even though a MKD never existed.

You're going to want to keep your bootloader MDK. With MDK you an flash any ROM you want, AOSP , AOKP , CM , TW..... 4.3...4.4 you name it.
If you updated to MK2 base you'd take away your options. You'd only be able to flash TW ROMs that are based on whatever build your phone is ...MK2 is 4.3 . And your only recovery would be SafeStrap. Not TWRP or CWM
How did end up with HD15 ? Flashed in recovery right? You can find any number of ROMs on these forums that are based off of MK2 or MJ7 and just flash them in recovery.

Gotcha. Yes recovery. HD says it's MK2 based, but my phone build still says MDK in the About screen. That's why I was wondering. Come to think of it though, doesn't that just display the Modem version (which is recovery flashable), correct?

Yes. MDK is your bootloader/Build and MK2 would be your baseband/modem.
Grab this app and it will show you everything https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo
And Surge has a thread on here of all our modems which are flashable through recovery although your probably good to stick with MK2 for now.

Before you start doing anything to your phone, find what build number you have. To do this go to settings >> more >> about phone. Then scroll to the bottom and find build number. Remember the last 3 characters of it because it will be referred to things across the forum.
I nor the devs who created these threads are responsible for anything that may happen or happens to your phone as a result of rooting, flashing, etc. You are choosing to do this yourself and therefore assume any/all risks involved

Safestrap
Since the bootloader is locked and the loki exploit is patched. Only those on MDK can have a custom recovery such as TWRP or CWM to flash almost anything on their device. Those who are on a build above MDK (ME7, MI1, MJ7, MK2 and NC5) can only use SafeStrap to flash touchwiz based roms. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FLASH A CUSTOM RECOVERY ON A BUILD ABOVE MDK. We can't flash custom kernels so we can't flash roms like CyanogenMod, and AOSP, they require a diffeent kernel. Safestrap requires root. Install safestrap as a normal apk. Thanks to @Hashcode, Without him it would be impossible to flash any custom ROM on a locked bootloader.
VZW Safestrap thread
If you are on ME7 or MI1 you can use Safetrap 3.65 to flash 4.2.2 touchwiz based ROM's in ROM-slots. I recommend you update to MK2 and install Safestrap 3.71
If you are on MJ7 of MK2 you can use Safestrap 3.71 to flash 4.3 touchwiz based ROM's in ROM-slots. Heres a list of compatible 4.3 ROM's
If you are on NC5 you can use the @muniz_ri's SafeStrap 3.7.5 to flash 4.4.2 touchwiz based ROM's. Here's a WIP list of 4.4.2 Compatible ROM's NC5 Modules

Anything you want me to add to it?
Saferoot will work at least on ME7 and MI1. Probably also MDK, but I wouldn't recommend mixing that up with the Loki work.
It's a lot smaller download than, say, Root de la Vega.

Use the NC2 leak tar.
I've read up a bit, but havent been able to confirm something and was hoping someone might be able to help...
Right now, I am on 4.3 MJ7 rooted, and want to upgrade to 4.4 NC5 and then root. I don't care about flashing ROMs, just want root access...
From what I can tell, I have two options, based on what I have done in the past
1) I can ODIN a no-wipe 4.3 MJ7 on my device, so then I can OTA to 4.4, and then root via towelrool
or
2) I can use ODIN directly to 4.4 and then root.
Is there any difference in the end result between the two, or will they get me to the same spot? Also, the link for the no-wipe MJ7 (at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507217 ) seems broken, so unless someone has an updated like, I may have to just do #2 anyway.
Thanks for any help
