No baseband? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

My friend attempted a root for his GN3 and I reflashed the NAB recovery on the device. I noticed everything is working fine, but there is not a Baseband in the device and I'm assuming I need a modem file to flash on the device for the NAB Baseband. Anyone have a modem.tar for NAB? I really need it for the service to work.

I haven't seen anything for just the modem but you can download the full package with everything in the development section

I did download the full package with everything in it, but for some reason the baseband won't update no matter how many times I reflash NAB on the device. I'm assuming the device was on MJ4 before (Had no idea which firmware it was on before because of the soft brick) and when I flashed it to NAB it seems the Baseband got lost.

I did a little research and it looks like the radio, hex dec, etc are missing. I believe the EFS file was corrupted in some way. Is there any way to recover this?

Try ##72786# on the dialer

If you have an EFS backup prior to flashing, you might be able to restore it. Otherwise, there are EFS fixes out there, I just haven't seen one for our phone's KitKat build.

I would have, but since its not my device, I don't. I searched through the forum and found a EFS fix, but it was for a bootloop issue. I attempted the file anyhow, but no luck. If you find anything please let me know.

Is it possible to recover the EFS in Kies?

No 4G data connection

Hi. I just Odin'ed back to stock firmware after experiencing no 4G data, only Edge, after flashing the Tmobile recovery through Rom Manager while on CM9 nightly #2. I had wiped and reflashed CM9, with no luck. I thought Odin'ing would fix the problem but it did not. I also tried removing the SIM card for a couple of minutes. Anyone have any suggestions what i could try? Thanks
Update: So far flashing CWM recovery using Rom Manager has set the IMEI to 0, on mine and MacTheRipperr's phone.
Anyone else with similar issues after flashing recovery through Rom Mananger?

Are you sure it wasn't a Tmobile problem? Maybe you should try other kernels and/or roms... I'm using AOKP on my Galaxy S since february and on my Galaxy SIII since June 19th, I haven't experienced any problems with mobile data, the link is below.
I hope it works.

Check your imei under the phone status. Do you have a 0? If so the same thing happened to me.
Do you have a back up of your /efs from the root?

Thank you for your response. I'm 99% sure it's not a Tmobile problem. I didn't have any issues with mobile data at all. This happend soon after i rebooted after flashing the tmobile Rom Manager custom recovery. First thing it did was give no signal connection at all. Then i reflashed the CM9 rom, which then was only able to get Edge network. Even after Odin'ing do i still only get Edge. I haven't tried a custom kernel yet. With certain devices, I've known of issues with modem's are sometimes fixed by flashing a standalone modem rather than going through the whole Odin process. But that isn't an option that is available for the T999 varient.

Yes it reads 0 and no i do not have an /efs backup. The root process I used was the Sprint root zip file flashing CWM and root using Odin. I wasn't aware of a backup that was made. After Odin'ing back to stock, i did the same root method and have flashed Redrum Lean Stock Mod which im currently on. Where would i find the /efs if this method did make a backup of it?
Question for curiosity s sake did you flask the cwm touch recovery
You should backup your EFS folder before flashing any rom, if you'd lost your IMEI you will have problems with mobile data and/or phone service.
I've found two topics about it here, the first one has a link to recover Tmobile and the second is more general. I hope it works!

You guys are freaking me out about losing IMEI. Thankfully mine is fine after rooted and flashing several ROMs.
How do I backup my EFS folder?
/sigh re-read all the imei threads, there's like 10 of them. Backing up the efs folder will not help you at all. The nv data.bin file is not there anymore and nobody has found it yet. Your only option is odin back to stock, take your phone back to where you bought it, and say this POS broke and i can't get lte even though i paid for it. If you're still under warranty hopefully they will replace it.

[Q] can't get to MJ5

I got my phone on MI5. I use CF root through odin and I installed TWRP through Odin as well. I played with a couple of ROMs, but wanted to try out MJ4 and some of the new ROMs out for that.
No matter what I try I cant get MJ4. I tried the baseband update from freeza, but that didn't take. I wiped and tried to install, what I thought was stock, a stock image. I even backed up my backups on internal storage and did a complete wipe and back to what I thought was stock
Now when I try to restore a twrp backup, I still end up at the default setup. This is very strange and never had any issues like this with previous phones.
The one thing I noticed about this forum vs previous forums I was in all the time, was lack of sticky threads on how to go completely stock etc
How do i get to stock MI5 so i can install MJ4?

I would recommend reverting to stock and taking the OTA update if freeza's amazing MJ4 baseband/kernel didn't work for you.
...Or there is that full MJ4 stock .tar you could Odin... Make a titanium backup and TWRP backup (system, boot, data) first of course.

I ran this again, using Odin on the source from here: https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0B-4vmAHRoMi-TGlrellrTi1SWXM&export=download
it was one of the links in your linked back post above. Everything is the same, still only build number incremented
Something is very wrong here.
EDIT: I tried all sorts of things, and no matter what now, I end up with build MJ4 and everything else points to MI5, even if i Odin MI5. I have even tried installing TWRP and wiping the entire thing, flashing MI5 and going for the OTA, but my build still says MJ5 and OTA updates say I am modified.
bump
Is there anyone that can help me?
No matter what I try, my baseband stays at MI5. Even after 3 full wipes and reinstall of stock MI5, the system will not run the auto update, says I am modified.
I have even installed TWRP, wiped system, data etc, installed MI5 stock, wiped 3 times, and then again using stock recovery.

[Q] Still can't update my baseband to MJ4 (Resolved - Solution Provided)

So I have tried every trick under the sun to get my baseband up to MJ4 so I can fully enjoy StrongSteves Odexed Blue. I have been a huge fan of Odexed Blue since the Epic Days.
I am still getting noises in calls and poor wireless signal compared to my friends fully stock MJ4. I have tripped knox and when i try to go to fully stock MI5 for an OTA update, I am told my phone has been modified and cannot receive updates. I can get the build and the firmware to tick up to MJ4 but nothing I try can get the baseband updated. I am on stock kernel.
Can I offer a bounty of around $50 to anyone that can help me?
I will be online for several hours today.
EDIT: Solution is on my reply (#21) on page 3 of this thread.

You have also tried Odin the full stock MJ4? If not just do that, if you have then maybe try this, Odin MI5, reboot to STOCK recovery and factory reset, then Odin MI5 again then reboot to STOCK recovery factory reset again, boot device then set everything up and wait for update. After update, if it takes, flash CF autoroot in Odin, flash TWRP in Odin then go Blue.

I tried this. Everything running at MI5 now, but OTA refuses to run still. I attached some screeshots.
As you can see it says "custom" on the "status page" and whatever is triggering that is preventing OTA.
Have you tried using Wanam X posed to fake the system status?

What else can I try to get my baseband up to MJ4? I am almost certain that knox and the custom flag is preventing this, but I am not experienced enough to know how to look at the logs or whatever to prove that.

Maybe try going back to MI3, I think it was MI3 anyway, whatever was before MI5. It is important to do the factory reset and wipe data betweeb ODIN flashes though with the STOCK recovery. Last thing to check is that your MJ4 tar actually has the modems in it.
Firmware and Modem only
Full tar
MI3
Guide and links
Also have you tried removing the sd card? Seems I remember some people having trouble with the sd card in the phone steps would be:
remove SD
wipe data, internal sd, davlik and cache in twrp
odin stock (try MJ4 first to avoid the manual update if that doesnt take go back to MI3)
reboot into STOCK recovery and factory reset a couple times
re odin
before phone boots force it to recovery factory reset again
boot normally and see if you have mj4 (or see if you can get the update)
Once you get the update on the internal storage I think it remains flagged as bad until you wipe it so thus the need to pull the sd card and wipe internal memory. (this is just a theory though)
Let us know if this works
Also remember (just in case) some of the files will download as zips so you will need to extract the to flash the. tar.md5 or .tar file in Odin.

I know you can't downgrade from MJ4 to MI5 I tried that a few times and had to restore a nandroid to be able to boot. It wouldn't flash anything even through odin. I did however downgrade a few times from MI5 to MI3 initially. I don't recall having any issues at all.

The mi5 to mi3 downgrade is no problem.
It's how I first got root before tripping knox. (I had a whole thread on it somewhere)
MJ4 to mi5 not possible.
I guess I can read through this thread a bit.
There shouldn't be a situation where flashing the full samsung mj4 file in Odin won't set you straight...
Is it possibly an Odin pc side driver issue.
In theory the Kies program should be able to wipe it to new also though I've never tried.

Yea...
If the stock mj4 full samsung file through Odin doesn't do it ???
It should work every time. No matter what.
Though, I would bet any failures here would be a pc/Odin version/driver issue and not really a phone issue.
Of course I've been wrong before I guess.

Good point on the MJ4 to MI5 downgrade but I think he is able to get back to MI5 just not able to get it to MJ4 which is strange... You would think if Odin worked to go back to MI5 it would work to go to MJ4.

Right I should clarify in the hopes it may help.
The issue with going back to mi5 from MJ4 is the bootloader and modems don't downgrade.
So at that point you'd have mj4 baseband stuff but mi5 system.
With mi5 a downgrade puts you at full mi3.
However you should still be able to flash the full samsung mj4 package regardless.
There is currently nothing newer out so no worry there.
Inability to flash a full zip from odin, provided it's a good md5 checked complete zip, is 99.99999999% likely to be an issue with odin , the pc, or drivers. (This is in my experience only so fwiw)
If the phone can get in download mode it shouldn't make any difference what information if any even is written to the necessary partitions. These will all be wiped and re installed anyway.
So...
If his baseband is mi5
There are two real options.
Get mi5 back to completely official. To take ota.
Flash a full mj4. (Usually odin, i don't believe the other packages are updating bootloaders, ect.)
In theory this is super simple.
You would just flash the full samsung mj4 in odin.
That should solve all the problems.
And would leave you with a completely stock phone. (With the exception of knox trip but that is a non issue.)
If for some reason you are not able to flash it with odin, you may give Kies a try. It should also be able to fully wipe and recover to the latest update.
Though in this situation I would probably spend my energy troubleshooting odin.
I'm going to stand behind my bet of it being a odin version or driver issue here.
Though if you are able to flash other things in odin it could also just be a bad file.
I have yet to have a phone that I could get into download mode that was not completely recoverable.
Though I have had issues with specific odin versions and drivers especially on windows 8.
Just my opinion. I'm not sure I even know what I'm talking about. And am probably safe to ignore.

I have been trying to get an MI3 image all day but the downloads fail or get interrupted.
I posted some screenshots in a previous post, and no matter what I try, I end up with version and baseband at MI5 and build at MJ5. I can flip flop build and sometimes version, but not baseband at all.
I have tried the wipe and flash trick 3 times in a row, I have tried Odin version 1.85 and 3.07 and 3.09, none of them complete the job. I have also tried going back to MI5 and then running the MJ5 ROM and then reboot into download and run just the baseband update then wipe, nothing.
Looks like I am about 8 hours + until i have a full MI3 rom.

[Firmware] Engineering Bootloader N900PVPECNC5

Here I have with me the engineering bootloader for our Galaxy Note 3. It is version NC5 so as long as you're on a KitKat bootloader, you can flash this. I recommend being on software NC5 or NC5D already, but if you are on NAB[D] this will also work. Please note I will not handle support or take responsibility for anything you do outside of flashing this bootloader on recommended software versions.
WARNING:
This has the potential to BRICK your device, so use it at your own risk.
What is the purpose of this bootloader?
Well, I believe that having this bootloader will allow us to easily flash basebands in the future, as long as you don't flash any Odin TAR files, or take any OTAs, you will retain the bootloader. I do not know if you will be able to downgrade again in the future to this bootloader, but for now, you have it.
Who is this for?
Devs, enthusiasts, flashaholics, people that know what they're doing.
Who this is not for?
Average Joes, those who want to take very little risk with their phones, those who don't know what they're doing or what potential an engineering bootloader has outside of basebands, and those who don't like seeing a bunch of engineering text when booting up, into recovery, or into download mode.
Instructions:
Again, make sure you are already on NC5 or NC5D.
Flash with Odin.
Profit.

NC5 engineering bootloader
Installing as we speak, I just seen the post for NC5(D) and was wondering when/if this would be released. Thanks freeza, your the man!
Thank you sir!

Flashing this will still not allow the flashing of the update correct? Still need to go back to stock and all that stuff?

It will allow flashing of the baseband, and if you choose to stay on nc5 and not nc5d, then you won't need to flash the update because the stock rooted as well as the baseband are on the way.

So this is ok to flash via odin if Im on the nab bootloader. I had flashed your nab tar in odin in the past. Im running sacs v3 nab rom. I'll need to re-root as well?

Bootloader can go right on top of your setup, interchange with the regular.
That stated, please read the OP and know that which you are getting into (ie, your phone, your property, your risk).
Take a look at the NAB bootloader thread, and its associated comments, for reference.

@micmars, flashing went just fine, I put the tar in the bootloader slot of odin and all, but the baseband and software version after reboot still says nab. Is that because im still on a nab rom? I'm going through the trouble just cuz I'm a guy who likes to keep his devices up to date. And I like a little more than just stock, rom-wise.

You have everything right. The bootloader is what allows you to boot anything. If you like being up-to-date, then that bootloader plus the full build would do it.
But the bootloader alone is now on your device.

Maybe my Odin is just screwed up but I have no option other than the PDA option to put something in. Everything else is grayed out. I did flash this though but everything still shows NABD
***EDIT*** Fixed Odin but everything still shows NABD after flashing

Try this 3.07 version, file goes in boot, nothing should be grayed out, you'll be done in less that 10 seconds...

I got it but still it seems like the Baseband should show NC5. Or am I thinking of when you flash a modem?

Your baseband won't change (that'd be modem), this is just what boots the phone up, shuts it down, or bricks it if you have the wrong one.

On tw Roms I can't use phone at all only aosp

I've done something that I haven't been able to remedy yet and it had made it so no matter what touchwiz ROM I use the phone app won't even open and getting a call reboots or locks up the phone. I have successfully installed AICP and all is working. Any ideas what I've done? Boot loader is mdk.

I'm just guessing here but did you anything that would've touched your efs folder? If you've made an efs backup (or a full backup, they usually include efs by default) I would suggest restoring it

When this first happened I restored a backup I had from Hyperdrive Rls 15 (tw rom) and everything was there however the phone didn't work. I just ran through a tutorial of backing up and restoring my efs folder using terminal emulator and the results i got were the same on the video so I believe that to be in order.
I did flash one file which could possibly have caused this but if so I'm not sure how to reverse it. It was an NC2 WIFI fix after trying to install gdux v2.0

So personally when there's a problem I can't fix, I use odin to start my phone over. If I were you I would flash the full wipe tar that matches my boot loader. It's up to you though. That's a totally fresh stock start so you have redo root and everything.
I would also suggest PMing surge1223 and jkruse if you really can't lose the data on your phone and don't wanna go through Odin. Keep in mind they're both very busy.

Thank you for the advice I will probably end up using Odin as this seems to be a unique situation
