Root it if you want. Yes, it can help in many ways. See here: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/top-10-reasons-to-root-your-android-phone-2/. To root your device, see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853672 or here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=955061. You choose whichever rom which suits you. They're available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=855.
But what do u think is the best?

Probably CM7 but you could still try some of the others.
after installing cm7 can I downgrade it to my stock rom which is 2.2.2?
Whats the best app to back up my files?
And when I back up my files do the apps that I've downloaded from market also get backed up?
And what do u mean by flashing?
sorry about the noob qs
You shouldn't root your phone until you have a full understanding of what you're doing, how you're doing it, and the reasons for doing so. The best advice anyone can give you is to read, read, and read some more.
Before you do something to your phone, read everything you can find about it. If you don't understand something in what you're reading, research that further.
Your questions are easily answered, and if you can't find the answers yourself then you really shouldn't be rooting and flashing. I'm not meaning to sound rude, but you'll get yourself and your phone into trouble by not understanding what you're doing.
Head over to your device's specific section here on XDA. Read the stickies in each of the sections, you should find helpful information there.
When I was learning, I read through the Q&A and General sections to get more information. When I hit problems, I already knew the answers.
And if you can't wrap your head around all of this, that's fine. Not everyone can understand it. If you read and read and still can't understand, then maybe you should stick with your non-rooted phone. Again, I'm not being rude, I'm just being honest. Because if you go ahead with it and don't know what you're doing, you're going to get stuck in an uphill battle... and possibly brick your phone in the process.
Good luck with your search!
Ya m not gonna do anything without understanding what it is!
There are so many forums that m not able to find the exact answer I need !
Anyways I'll keep searching
about the battery, almost all android maybe smartphone, now only last a day...dunno...
depend on using ofcourse...sory bad english

Yes, you can turn off usb debugging (although there is nothing wrong with leaving it on; some people would even rather leaving it on). You can install apps like Setcpu, root explorer, terminal emulator, titanium backup, sd booster, script manager, etc. Instructions to flash a rom (for your device) can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033654.

Well, that's why its called stable . You can try the nightly versions (if that's what you mean by "unofficial"), but don't expect the best performance. It's best if you perform a full wipe of data and cache before flashing (also make a nandroid backup).
P.S. It's better if you post in your device specific forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=852; some of your questions have already been answered.

Perform a full wipe of data and cache, make a nandroid backup, then flash.
Thank u so much!
If I want to go back to stock should I restore the nandroid back up and then flash the fixed sbf or should I just flash the full sbf?

If your stock rom was the nandroid backup, then yes, you can just restore it and you'll be back to stock.

Hey Devs and users,
Been facing a problem lately, my ray is running on stock 4.0.3 rooted and modded with they system ui mod with the quick panel settings with hansip87's mod and also a few things i did was install the modded gpu driver and also installed and again uninstalled the megabass feature
Anyway I have the habit of switching off my phone and charging it through the wall and i've noticed it doesn't charge like that anymore, it keeps going in and out of the "sony" bootloop, is there any fix for this?
Would really appreciate if someone can fix this, want to be able to switchoff the phone and charge it
EDIT: had it for almost a year, just rooted last week i guess before it was stock and running good

oh now I get it, we're talking about rooting methods for ICS, am I right?
seems like we are on the same page but I used the one by asertyio. That "apparently" fixed my stuttering HD video recording
slower charging? yes, a bit. but that's because the phone is on while charging but I reached 3 days with sub-normal use
solved?
hi, sadly speaking that i have the exact problem, this problem emerged only after i install recovery (CWM) by nAa via the SE Tweak Installer v1.8. i do made a nandroid backup, would it be solved if i restore it? yet, if i repair it, back to stock rom, i still need to root and install CWM to restore data, will this problem still persist? i had read the SE forum from the link given above but i still can't figure out the exact method to handle it.
actually it doesnt cause much problem only im worrying that one day i have to charge after switch off since the battery might drained out ...

from what I know, it must be repaired to fix the charging problem... although I don't want to use that method because like you said, I'll be back to where I've started and had to reinstall them all over again

i bought x10 mini in february 2012. after some days i rooted the phone. and after some days it starts auto turn off while sim is inserted. and sometimes it restarts automatically. when charger is connected, there is no problem, but when disconnected, it shuts down immediately. and sometimes it turns off while sim is not inserted but the "on time period" is about 2/3 hours. but when sim is inserted, it turns off immediately just aftrer switched on the phone. and there is a battery draining problem too. sometimes, as example, 90% charge becomes 23% after autorestart. i send it to sony ericsson service centre, but nothing has improved. and now i can see the phone is not rooted. please please please help me !

I think you done something in the rooting process. Try "re-rooting" it again and follow the instructions CAREFULLY, and maybe this will solve the problem.
Sent via LG P690 CyanogenMod 7.2 using XDA Premium
Whenever you update your firmware you loose root.
So they just updated your firmware so you lost your root...
Other thing first understand what is rooting..
As in our phone we are not able to access root directory of our device like drive C in computers..
So rooting is just like break that limitation so only rooting will not give birth to any problem
And only unrooting will not cure any problem...
Its like
Opening your home lock will not make your fridge to stop working and locking your home again will not cure your fridge..
So the problem may be a faulty peace of software,
Any malware
Uncompatible firmware
Wrong governers
Or any tweak you made..
Try to find out what you have screwed up with that device!
we all should be polite enough to press thanks for anyone who helped US.
but how can i find that error ? can you please tell me any "test" or "check" to find the fault ? look, i'm very new to this android world, so can you help me by accurate and detail procedure ? please.. my phone is like a dead device now !

Okay there is no program that can "check" or "test" where the problem occurs with(just I'm saying, there is something wrong you did or wrong "procedures" you followed). All you gonna do now is state more details about the procedures you follow (i. e. where did you "get" the instruction, URL, etc.). /Where do you "think" you did something wrong (cause we cannot figure it out, it the procedure in solving a problem; knowing which is the problem to be solved and what caused that problem.)
Actually in my point of view here, your phone is not "bricked" cause it's still opening up, so we can still do something about it.

Look, why are you thinking about "root" "link" "procedure" "instrunctions" repeatedly. I have not done any procedure, i only rooted it and the instruction was from here, and that was appropriate insruction for x10 mini, and for your kind information, that was your previously recommended instruction too. But i think the problem is not that, even my device is not rooted, because the service centre guys updated the firmware.

Hello everyone,
A few days ago I started to have some issues with my S2. It started to shut down mostly when I was trying to make a call. At first it happened once a day, then twice, but yesterday it shuted down and I couldn't turn it on. It stucked on the booting logo ...
A saw a lot of posts about this problem, many people is having this kind of issues but I couldn't find a good response what to do, and how to do it.
A made a hard reset, and I succesfully turned it on, but the problem is still alive. It keeps shutting down...
As a newbie I don't really know what should I try to resolve this issue, please help me.

Hi, im a newbie on this forum so im sorry if im making any mistake. I have xperia sola from September 2012. it was working well untill almost a year back. Check this
I'm having same problem since then , maybe because of overcharging or maybe because I had some battery monitoring apps installed. so from a year or so my phone cant stay up for more than 10mins and im living through it, at first i had no idea how to fix it but when i checked sony forum i got to know it can be repaired by SUS/SOny pc companion. I know all the steps about installing ics because i have done it by myself after buying this phone.but now i cant because i have slow internet it will take forever to download it and there is no Sony service center in my city. I searched about cyanogenmod and I really feel like trying it on my phone but im scared because I haven't played with the ROM thing ever so i may brick the phone and then blame the developers. I can download all the files required for cyanogenmod overnight on my phone and transfer them to laptop and do the further steps. but the problem is , what if my phone turns off during installation process? will it get bricked? and will it even solve the battery issue?
ok i cant post links over here i was just posting sony forum's thread.my phone's battery has problems it drops from 100% to 0% from 90% to 0% , just at any point, i cant use my phone without charger being plugged in

I see. So are you on official stock ICS right now? or not yet? I don't get how you need to install ics by yourself, as aren't xperia sola's shipped with ics installed already? Anyways, try one of the ff:
A. Recalibrate your battery stats (search a battery calibrate app in the play store. I think it requires root.)
B. Try a new battery
C. If you can, try doing a factory reset to see if it's an app's fault or a system service or something. Or maybe try removing apps that keep running in the background. I don't think flashing cyanogen will help much if in your stock rom the problem already exists.
D. Or if it's not a software problem or a battery problem, then maybe it's a phone hardware problem. I had a neo V that had a short. So battery life was cut. battery always gets eaten, even when I turn the phone off! Maybe you could try going to a cellphone repair store not necessarily a sony center if your warranty period is already over
Hope this helps

Yup! That's quite common and guides for that are easy to find.
Also, before you do the kernel change, have you tried http://www.shuame.com/en/root/ ?
Btw for eroot, shuame, flash tool, and binary's root app to work, drivers are needed.
For drivers, you can find a driver installer within flash tool. Or you could use the drivers provided by sony pc companion. So don't expect any of them to work if you haven't installed working drivers.

any one should work. only can tell, by trial and error.
So your options and fallbacks:
1. your link from sony's website (it says for GB... you're on ICS already right? idrk if this one should work well)
2. sony pc companion provided drivers (recommmended IMO)
3. shuame root genius provided drivers (you should try the others first and this is your last resort)
4. flashtool provided drivers (I also recommend this)
5. PdaNet (really really last resort. not that' it's bad or anything. I just like sticking to officially provided drivers for starters)

I've run out of ideas now.. Maybe flashing a different baseband may help. Note this is a blind guess.. I dont know if it will help or not. I just know baseband does affect battery life. I have never done this myself so I don't know how risky it can be

http://d-h.st/wg1
on divaksh's post, so should i download it on my phone and transfer it to my laptop and flash it via flashtool, will it work? and it's the official stock rom right? i can just put it on download and sleep, it will be ready by the time i get up, see this thread by nabeel he also recommends to install fresh ROM

Just be sure that the Rom you are about to download is legitimately stock Rom. As I don't know where you got that download link. I am not from the sola forum so I don't recognize the username
It is best to download from a laptop/desktop as phone download managers often make uncommon file types into unusable files. U could go to a computer shop or try downloading it from a friend's house. Then flash it yourself on your laptop
