In case it helps, the saferoot zip file has a copy of ADB installed.
Start a command prompt (start/run, type cmd then enter).
Use the "cd" command to change to the directory where you unzipped saferoot. Then "cd tools" and you should then be able to use adb shell.
Edit: Your Safestrap on MK2 should be Safestrap 3.71. Just uninstall that using the Application Manager and it'll clean up after itself.

Unrooting the Samsung Galaxy S4 (Verizon):
1. Download and place both the archives on your Desktop.
2. Extract files from both the archives over to your Desktop.
3. Double-click on the Odin executable file and it’ll open.
4. Click on PDA and select the Stock Firmware file available on your Desktop.
5. Make sure you haven’t checked Repartition box in the tool.
6. Checkmark the boxes that say Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time.
7. Now turn OFF your device
8. Turn it back on by holding down Volume DOWN+Home+Power buttons together.
9. Press the Volume UP button to go into Download mode.
10. Plug in your device to your PC using the USB cable.
11. Hit Start in the Odin and it’ll begin flashing the stock firmware on your device.
12. It will take some good time to flash the firmware on your device, so sit back and relax.
13. Once the firmware’s been flashed, reboot your device.
14. You’re all done!

No solutions are working on my soft brick...any ideas?

so I have a vibrant and was running 1.6 bionix mod on it, and i figured i would download 1.7 and flash it over. But before I did I wanted to flash back to stock via odin to download the OTA but when I did that I get a black screen after the galaxy s logo..I have looked and searched these forums and
I have tried this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741027&highlight=brick
did not work
and I am currently trying to use eugenes froyo flash method, however I need to use adb reboot and adb cannot detect my phone because I assume it's not rooted anymore since I reverted back to stock..
any ideas?? on how to root my phone while it's in this soft brick or any ideas what to flash in odin to fix this ?? If this thread was unclear I will clarify any questions.
PS. ever since i used odin to flash Euguenes froyo rom whenever I start up the phone it goes straight to android system recovery and I do not have the option to do anything else. HELPPP
ok...reading up a bit more and it looks like I didn't disable voodoo lag fix before i flashed over the stock rom ?
now i am trying to run the fixes that this thread lists,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782027
but i can not do any adb commands because my phone isn't rooted now, any way to root through odin?

your phone doesn't have to be rooted to use adb ...
When your phone throws you into recovery with that media error, unplug your phone for 5 seconds, and plug it back in. Eugene put that in the instructions, and i didn't read that part either lol. If adb still doesn't work, you need to dl the right drivers again

when you unplug the phone and re plug in what should the phone do?
is it just so the computer recognizes the phone or does it boot something up?

Haha no problem. As for Voodoo ... i never ventured there. I usually stick with JAC's or King Kilikkk's, but here's the uninstall/verification for Voodoo. Try it b4 you flash anything else just to be safe.
How-to Disable the Voodoo Lagfix:
1. Once again, you MUST disable the Voodoo lag fix in order to flash any other rom, kernel, or perform a nandroid backup. If you don't...well....lets just say I warned you.
2. Its simple. Create a folder on the root of your sdcard called 'Voodoo'.
3. Now, open notepad or something similar and save the blank file. Name it 'disable-lagfix'. This file cannot have any file extension, so remove it if it does.
4. Place your blank file into the 'Voodoo' folder you made on your sdcard.
5. In order to disable, simply power down your phone and power it back up.
6. FINISHED! You can now flash anything you'd like!
How-to Confirm Voodoo Lagfix is Disabled:
1. In adb shell or terminal type 'mount'
2. If it is disabled is should read '/dev/block/mmcblk0p2'.
3. If it is not disabled, it will read '/dev/block/mmcblk0p4'.
done and done, thanks again!!

Out of ideas!

Hey guys, I'm in need of some help with my prime. Just got it a few days ago and rooted it just fine using vipermod. The used OTA root keeper to save root for ICS. After installing ICS, I restored root and everything was fine. Then I noticed that my prime would loose wifi signal ever 2 minutes. I did a factory reset thinking that would fix it (and it did) but now a few things are beyond messed up and i can't figure it out! For one, I cannot access the notifications area (when i tap it, nothing comes up) the home button also does not work at all. so i tried to install cwm so i can re flash the ROM from scratch but now ADB does not see my device AT ALL. i tried everything. i have all the drivers installed and all. I'm at a loss and extremely frustrated. does anyone know whats going on here? how can i get adb to see my prime so i can flash cwm? or is there an alternative way to completely flash the rom? (i also tried the method on asus' website by downloading ICS and placing it on the root of the SD, and still nothing)
You won't be able to install CWM without unlocking the bootloader (and voiding your warranty first). After that, you can no longer flash a ROM from Asus without bricking your device. There is the latest updated ROM in the dev section though.
Good luck!
I did that as well and still nothing :-/
For ADB to work you need to have usb debugging enabled on the tablet....probably a silly thing to ask but always have to check...

yup thats enabled as well. when i first got it with 3.2 on it, i plugged it in and drivers installed automatically and adb recognized it right away. now that ics is on it, adb cant see it. i have never ran into this with any android device ever.
Mine did that once and I also had to disable ASUS Sync in settings. After that ADB worked fine.
Update the drivers on your PC
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426502
If you do it right, it will work.
BUT YOU DONT EVEN NEED ADB, LOOK BELOW (I am not advocating not knowing how to adb but lets just fix your prime)
Since you have unlocked your bootloader you can install CWM and just install the latest Virtuous Rom:
If you dont have CWM download Rom Manager from the market, run it, select "Flash recovery" at the top. (btw rom manager just released this today)
*Note that the 'reboot into recovery' option within RM will not reboot into recovery, you must do it manually.. See below
-Backup your apps with Titanium Backup if you want
-Download Virtuous S
-Boot into recovery (directions beneath)
---Power off
---Hold Vol Down (-) and Power until you see spash screen with white text at the top THEN HIT VOL UP (+) within 5 seconds. this will boot into recovery
-if you are coming from stock then: select "wipe data/factory reset"
-Install zip from sdcard, browse for the rom
-Profit?
Guys, thanks a million for all the replies! After uninstalling the drivers and re-installing them then moving my ADB directory to the root of my C drive, it now recognizes my Prime and I was able to flash CWM. I'm now running Virtuous Prime and loving it! Thanks again!

I would still recommend that you go download Rom Manager and flash the new recovery.
The one in the thread in the dev section is an unofficial port. The one is the Rom Manager is official and works a little better.
Additionally, if you plan to use ADB in the future, there is a simple thing you can do to make it so that within command prompt you can type 'adb' commands ANYWHERE, and not just in the folder that your adb files are..
Right click on Computer--> Properties-->Advanced-->Environmental Variables
Click edit on PATH in the top box if it exists already, add ';' to the end of the previous path and enter the path to your ADB, mine is like
Code:
C:\Users\Mike\Downloads\android-sdk_r16-windows\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools\;
and if it PATH doesnt already exist just create it.
Hope I helped

I'm not really sure what you're asking.
In order for ADB to work, just turn on debugging in settings > Applications > Development.

This will trip flash counter, if u are still completely stock just rooted, don't do this method.
Get USB drivers and install from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24539068
Reboot computer
Enable USB debugging under settings on phone
Download adb from this post:
http://depositfiles.com/files/n0dcxce3t
Its actually superuseroneclick, but when u unzip adb is inside
Connect USB cable to computer and one drivers are installed, open command prompt
Navigate to folder where u unzipped adb and run "adb shell"
Then type "rm /system/app/Superuser.apk"
Exit command prompt and reboot phone, successfully unrooted
No one has had a issue with flashing the counter and sending back the device..I've sent devices back without sd cards. Batties (well that one was years ago) and IN FACT A NOTE WITH 8 FLASH COUNTS before hey had the reset zip..lol........your worried over nothing believe me..not one phone call or bill flash the reset counter zip.and walaaa.. using odin is the much easiest safest way for anyone flashin thru download mode..,but if adb is what ya like then adb it is...to each there own...let us know how it went.,ok

[GUIDE] Rooting

Okay, just wanted to put this info here for easy reference. Feel free to correct anything I may have wrong.
*Based on my experiences performing the operation on windows 7 x64.
1. Install the LG USB driver for windows found under the software tab from their site here
2. Download and extract the English version of the root optimus g created by fiddy619 from here
3. Set USB debugging on and attach your phone to usb, then put it in MTP/Media Sync mode. Next, open a command prompt and navigate to the "stuff" sub-directory of the extracted file. Run the command "adb devices" to make sure your phone has been detected. Go back to the main directory and run the RootOptimusG.bat file.
4. When prompted on your phone choose restore data. Leave your phone plugged into USB until the program tells you it is finished! Sit back and let the magic happen. Your phone will reboot. Mine acted weird for a few seconds after it rebooted, the buttons at the bottom were going on and off and the screen was flickering. Just be patient and give it a couple minutes if needed.
5. When prompted that all is complete you can disconnect your phone from your computer and open the Play store to get the update for SuperSU
Now you are ready to unlock!
should be a sticky.
Thanks!
I followed the thread to root no fiddy619 instructions. I did use MTP.
But instead of Command prompt, I just double clicked the BAT file. and it run without problems, I think.
I have the SuperSU icon on my phone.
How can i make sure it was rooted?
p.s
The unlock also ran without problems.

well if you have the supersu then it should be rooted. also if you now have it unlocked then it is rooted because i dont think you can unlock unless you root. also please search around the forums about what apps to not remove after root. a lot of people have noted issues after removing google apps.

If that worked for you, I'm happy for you. I am at this time unable to find a way to unroot and then re-root aside from restoring a backup in CWM or flashing a superuser zip in CWM. This could be because of a "bug" in our rooting script, in SuperSU's un-rooting function, or just an incompatibility between the two. Either way, I think this rooting mechanism works for more virgin LGOGs than not.
worked for me, easy peasy.
When i run the script it gives an error saying that i'm missing backup-restore.apk and /system/bin/ric does not exist. Any ideas as to why this is?
nice. thank you.

That is probably because your phone is not rooted yet. I got that too as I was rooting it. Worked great.
I'm trying to root. USB debugging is on, connected as MTP. Run ADB, run adb-devices, returns an empty screen.
Try to run the script, it tells me "please check setting again"
HALP.

[Q] Saferoot question

Hello,
I tried to root my S4 I545, MK2 with version 4.3 on the Verizon network using the saferoot method however when I go to run the program by pushing any button to continue the black command screen disappears and the program does not run. Anybody else have this problem?
I have Kies 3 loaded and my phone is recognized
I have tried with USB Debugging on and off
I have used the stock cable that came with the phone
I tried on two computers one with vista and windows 7.
Adb recognizes my device using the view device command. I am not sure what else there is to do any suggestions? Am I missing something I thought I followed the instructions pretty good.
Thanks

It seems that something may be missing on your computer that the install.bat file is looking for, causing it to exit.
You might be able to tell what's happening if you start up a command prompt window and run the install.bat from there.
Unzip the saferoot zip file into c:\saferoot\
For windows 7, press the start key and type "cmd" in the "Search programs and files" box. "cmd.exe" should appear. Click on that to open a command prompt.
at the command prompt, type
cd \saferoot\

then press enter.
then type
install.bat

Press enter and the install will run. The window will remain open so you can see whatever error is being emitted.

k1mu,
I think it was operator error on my part. Before I tried your suggestion I re-installed Saferoot to my c:drive opened it up an ran it with no problem.
I don't remember if I did that the first time as I tried to root from two different computers. The first time I tried was on my win 7 computer and I could not get it to run. I then I switch to my Vista system and tried to run Saferoot from that system again with no luck. On the Vista system I tried to save Saferoot to my c:drive and I could not because I got an error that I didn't have admin rights to load the file. At that point I gave up.
What I think happened is I didn't download Saferoot to my c: drive on my win 7 computer and after reading your suggestion I tried again and it worked. So I didn't load from the cmd prompt, I guess I should have mentioned that. Hope I am making sense.
FYI I used the Saferoot file dated 29 Mar 2014 from the Android Development forum. Thanks again!

Don't open it using your file manager, open it from the downloads folder and it'll install.
