Hey guys, I used TWRP to back up files, then by mistake :silly: I used format data instead of advanced wipe!
So I lost everything on my mobile with the back up files! :crying:
Now I googled file extension for TWRP back up, it was .WIN
Even though all TWRP backup files carry the extension .win, they are either tar archives or filesystem images. System, data, cache and .android_secure are backed up as tar archives or gnu-zipped tar archives if compression is enabled. You can rename those .win files to .tar (.tar.gz if compressed) and extract them like a regular archive. Boot and recovery partitions are backed up as .img files using dd.

So is there any program that I can use to restore the back up files? (.win files) If not, How can I restore at-least the pictures, videos, messages, contacts.. etc?
If someone there can help me, please do! any little info can be useful! :good:
Thank you.
any help please!

I have included a script in a initd script segment to create a file called efs.autobackup.img
The forum is filled withon how to creating the .img file but i couldnt find about how to restore.Ktool doesnt work on this.
I am asking this in behalf of a fellow xda member. He got a factory efs files in some old Indian firmware, flashed it by using clear phone efs in odin and now he has some generic IMEI.How to extract the files inside the .img file atleast??
Atleast he can use the files to change his IMEI using nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5
If it's a raw .img (20MB in size) kTool should work fine.
Just rename the file to "efs.img" and put it to /sdcard (root of the internal storage when mounted to the PC).
Then run a restore via kTool (be sure to use latest version).

If the .img is OK and not already of a broken EFS, or the image itself is corrupted (all these things can happen, sadly) then it can surely be restored.

He is saying that restoring with efs.img makes his phone go to unknown baseband and IMEI.
I have asked him again to post it in this thread
Is there any way to extract that .img file???

In a shell, type:
Code:
su
mkdir /sdcard/mnt
mount -t ext4 /sdcard/efs.img /sdcard/mnt
Then use your fav. filemanager to go to "mnt" on the internal storage.
If the mount command gives you an error, it's likely the .img is corrupted.
I need remove and replace some stock app of my phone, so I try to backup with CWM and get 2 file:
_"system.ext4.tar" 0kb
_"system.ext4.tar.a" 5xxmb
Then I extract "system.ext4.tar.a", replace and remove some app, and compress to .tar again. Here is the problem, I have try some software to compress "system" folder extract from "system.ext4.tar.a", put it back to my sd and use CWM to recovery it. But some compress soft I get the error can't extract form CWM when I recovery, some compress soft CWM can be done with it, but I still can't boot my phone, it just stay at loading screen. If I use original backup, everything work fine.
I think maybe I doing something wrong with .tar compress, can anyone give me an advice. Sorry about my bad english

The steps can vary somewhat depending on the device. I'm assuming it's some sort of a Chinese device, most likely a tablet, with the uboot file... What's wrong with just having the nandroid? It's not like you can't share that with others if you're needing to.

Its not about sharing. I've just bricket my phone. But i had a nandroid backup. I restored it but nothing happened. So i made a cwm flashable zip using kitchen and included only system.ext4 file and boot.img file. and i stuck at boot loop. I think i'm doing something wrong. i just wanted to ask if uboot.img is essential for cwm flashable zip?

Well, if a nandroid didn't work, then not likely that making a flashable CWM zip with the same files would make any difference. You might just need to flash the stock firmware and start over.
hey guys,
I have made a nandroid backup of my nexus 7 (2012) and I need to get access to contents of the data partition without actually applying the nandroid backup to the device. I found this "unyaffs" tool, but it requires .img files if I understood it correctly. However, in my nandroid backup directory, I have a couple of files that end in ".win" or ".win000" etc (along with corresponding md5-files)...these must be image files of some sort I guess, but Windows describes them as "Adobe CMS Extensions" for some reason.
So...anyone knows how I can access this data? Any help appreciated!
cheers

Very simply, how do I browse and extract the contents of a TWRP Nandroid backup on my Windows PC?
I am trying to browse a TWRP backup but I have a feeling I need to do a bit more fussing around. The backup is split into data.ext4.win000 through data.ext4.win007 and each of the parts has an accompanying .md5 with the same naming structure (ie. data.ext4.win000 and data.ext4.win000.md5.) There's also a data.info file as well.
The system backup is the exact same as described above for the data, except it's only 2 parts (system.ext4.win000 and system.ext4.win001, with the accompanying md5 files and the info file.)
Can someone provide a bit of guidance? I'm using a Windows 7 Home Premium machine.

Simply rename the file to data.ext4.tar and use winrar to extract it.
I'm revamping this thread because I'm...desperate!
I have a nandroid backup (TWRP 2.8.7.0) and I would like to browse it on my PC. I'm focusing on files with structure data.ext4.win000x (where x goes from 0 to 2).
I'm able to open with 7-zip (should be equivalent to winrar) every individual file but size is faulty: every file is nearly 1.5 Gb while the content of the zipped file that I see it's around 50 kb. If I concatenate the files with the command copy /b data.ext4.win000? outputfile regardless the extension I give to "outputfile" I'm no longer able to open it with 7-zip.
Any suggestion/hint please ????
Not finding entire folders/files while browsing backup
I find the same thing regardless of the mechanism I am using to browse the backup. I am looking in /data/data for my own apps' data. Here is what I have tried so far:
1. Nandroid Manager app
2. TWRP Explorer app
3. ZArchive app
4. In a terminal, cat data.ext4.win??? | tar -tv > less (and then searching for my apps' package names
I was looking inside my nightly full backup to extract and recover some files I accidentally deleted. Cannot even find folders for the package names (except for 1 app). However, when I do a full restore from the same backup inside of TWRP Recovery, the missing files are indeed restored. So I know they are in the backup.
Why can I not find them and get at them any way else? I must be missing something simple.
Thanks
BTW - in the recovery.log file in the backup folder, I see the folders/files in question being "added". Very odd.
BTW2 - at least with regards Nandroid Manager app, I noticed that I was seeing some files I know I had removed from my apps some time ago. How could that be? I decided to clear data/cache for Nandroid manager and try again. It took much longer to process the backup for exploring. But now at least that app seems to be doing the right thing and I can see all folders/files.
