[Q] Is there some kind of "hard-wired" autobrightness in the screen? - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Every time i go to a mostly black screen (my homescreen is pretty bare and black) i notice that the screen dims the brightness slightly.
This happened with the stock rom and now again with GPE.
Auto-Brightness is if course disabled.
Reminds me of my old samsung TV which did the same unless i enabled the "movie mode".
It bugs me slighly, can i somehow turn it off?
Regards
Schmolch

Settings/display/brightness/adapt to lighting, try disabling that.

Is it a medical condition with you? Its in the OP.

Wow. He/she is trying to help you and you being rude to them is not going to get you anywhere. And no there isn't a hard wire and the only thing is the adaptive lighting.

He didn't read the question properly, twice. He has nothing to contribute, like you. You two are just wasting my time.
And yes, despite adaptive lighting being off it's still doing it to a small degree. If you dont notice it, fine. If you dont know why its doing it, fine. Just don't reply.

You seem to have pretty useless input over a range of device forums. Granted, i didn't read and answered in a rush, but you're just out for blood from anybody.
Hopefully you'll get as much help from the rest of the forum.

I have noticed the same "issue" as the OP and it slightly bugs me too. Whenever I go back to the homescreen with a dark wallpaper the screen slightly dims. And this has nothing to do with "adapt to lightning conditions" as I always have it off.
I guess it can be something related to the "contend adaptive brightness" feature that some phones has but that feature should only dim lighter backgrounds. I guess there's nothing we can do to prevent it from happening.

Let's just say that I read a similar thread about a week ago. Not in the Ultra section, but in a model Z section (Z/Z1 etc.). I believe the answer was in that thread.
I'm not joking. That thread exists. You can either believe me and spend time looking for that thread, or you can ignore this and still have no answer.

Help Need Making A very Personal App

Well basically, this girl I like, and me have the same phone, the Atrix 4G. Now I wanted to ask her to a dance, and wanna make an app for that, Something creative and original, like say plays a youtube video of me asking her to the dance, then opens up a prompt which says yes and no, if she selects yes, her phone calls/texts me the answer, what is your opinion on this? Will it work? Too Nerdy? Overkill?
I support this. Even if nerdy, id want to use it for jokes. Hah

Hahaha thanks for all the positive replies, yeah I've never coded before in any kind of form, I'm more of a hardware person, though you see fragmentation won't be a problem here as me and her have the same phone. Any more how to videos would be appreciated, I have a lot of time for this, but just wanted to put the idea out there and get some support, after all I thought android devs would be more helpful considering they develop for open source platforms.

I hope you don't like this girl because she has the same phone as you. That's really... rhymes with day. But uh, if she says yes, put your app on the market and market it as able to get you dates. Btw, if she says yes and you two hit it off, are you going to make an app asking her can I see what is in your panties?

[Q] Why isn't phone announcing callers?

I noticed today that my SGSII no longer tells me who's calling. I don't know when it stopped doing it so I can't trace it back to something I did or installed. I know it was doing it, but not what app or process is responsible for it or why it no longer does. I remember there was a setting choice on whether to do this, but I can't find it nor did I turn it off. I'm guessing maybe Juice Defender or some other app may be inhibiting it. Any clues?
Do you mean callerid? CityID does that, but i think it is trial or something. Try TrueCaller, it is free from their website.

Actually, he did not search at all from my understanding. I'm not trying to be an ass, I'm just saying. From his OP, he states that he accidently found out how to take screen shots with the stock, none rooted rom when trying to turn off his device. Right away he posted the method up and I can bet without any search if that was a known feature for the amaze.
I'm pretty sure if you search Google, it will let you know thats a known stock feature for the amaze. But I guess you can give him credit for trying to help.
And actually, here it is. First result when I searched google

Yuck! I've always considered myself to be a Google whiz, but apparently not. So what you're saying is if the OP would have typed this into Google, the thread wouldn't be needed? You seem to be typing out of both sides of your fingers. Not to mention, if the OP is new, I wonder what seperates him from other new noobs I see ripped for the same thing.
If my first post was "how to root amaze 4g" I'm sure it would be frowned upon for posting common knowledge that we could have searched and found the same info on.

No I'm not hating at all, I was actually commending the OP, just like I mentioned previously. I was merely pointing out the fact that with a little google search things can be found very easily...this is in no way against what the op did, trying to share what he thought was usefull information for many, and probably is for many who are new to android!!

I am Swedish, but I've set everything possible to English (US) and to use Google.com instead of Google.se and to always speak back, yet it rarely does. Try vlingo or just use s-voice (based on vlingo like siri).
Iris would also be something you could try, it's almost only usable as chat bot.

Pebble blue, 32/64GB .. that's it.
The phone is amazing, no issues so far.
This is my best phone ever! Always had SonyEricsson and I'm glad I chose the S3! I tried other ROMS, but I like the stock rom from Samsung more
Build quality is okay, it's plastic, but it is well-built and with a bumper I only feel bumper and screen. I dropped out once from like 1,5mtrs got some little damage on the corners, but I can't see them with my bumper, so they don't exist.
But if I could choose now, I would have a look @ the note 2, because that's an S3+
