Hello,
apologies if this has been asked already, but i couldn't find it. I recently moved from stock JB to Omnirom and have taken backup of sms (data only) and also nandroid backup. TBP is failing to restore the sms data, I have tried to extract the nandroid backup /data.ext4.tar.a\data\data\com.android.mms\. What all should i restore from there and to what location?

clockwork backs up your rom so if you restore that it'll just restore whatever rom you did the back up on
you need to use titanium backup or a similar app to backup and restore apps

You could restore this way, but you very well could have a lot of bugs and issues from this.

Probably a stupid question, but is "nandroid backup" that's required e.g. to flash Task's ROM the same as the backup I do using Titanium Backup? I noticed TB does not backup whole Tab, as it is only 2-2,5Gb in size, while on my Tab I have some 10-11Gb of storage occupied (apps, photos, movies, mp3).
Is it the same, then? If not, do I need to use some other tools to do a proper "nandroid backup"?
Titanium Backup
1. What can Titanium Backup back up ?
All the applications you have installed, included protected ones,
All the data and settings of these applications,
Most (nearly all) of your phone's settings and data.
Titanium Backup 3.8.0+ will also backup the system applications from your ROM, not just their settings and data.

A Nandroid backup is a backup of the whole system, you need to have Clockworkmod recovery installed to be able to perform a 'nandroid' backup.
You do a nandroid with ClockworkMod recovery. It's a advanced recovery instead of the stock. You can install this recovery with Rom manager from market.
This nandroid takes a snapshot of your whole system. And you can use it to go back to when the backup was made.

If you get the paid version you can send the backup to a Dropbox account. Well worth the peace of mind.
If I recall correctly, there was such an app, but I can't remember its name. :S
I use - https://market.android.com/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&feature=search_result to backup and restore SMS.
It is not related to nandroid backup still, it may be helpful.
Nope. I cannot delete my current ROM to restore the nandroid. So, anyone can help?
Edit: I FOUND IT! https://market.android.com/details?id=com.handyandy.appextractor
For anyone that needs it. DD
Good find. This may come in handy in the future.
I also use SMS backup & restore, apn backup & restore, bookmark backup & restore, call logs backup & restore as well as titanium backup from the market.
This will help when I forget to backup one of them and only have a cwm backup.

Hello!
I have CWM Touch Recovery v6.0.3.1. A couple of hours ago, I made a NANDroid backup before flashin a new ROM. When I attempted to use NANDroid backup manager to restore my apps and data, the app said I had no apps in the backup. Upon reviewing the files CWM created, I discovered that it created several data.ext4.tar files. Is there a way to combine these so I can use the Nandroid backup manager to restore my apps. I've managed to restore call logs, text messages and wifi data but my apps are important too
Thanks in advance for the help ^-^
EDIT: I do realise I could probably use CWM for restoring but I want to restore specific apps and not the data. (I.e the recently updated hotmail app)
Plus, restoring with CWM flashes data that is incompatible with the new ROM.
full back up or partial back up

As far as i know Nandroid backup is used to restore previously backed up ROM+installed applications+app data . If you jus want to back up some application, just use something like "Titanium Backup", it workes great.
:good: If it helped you, Just hit the THANKS :highfive:
Titanium, Backup (TiBu) has an option for extract from nandroid backup in its menu. why dont you try that if u have TiBu installed ..
Thank you but I solved my problen a while ago.

A nandroid backup is used to backup the system,boot,recovery... In case your phone is bricked but if yout want to backup apps just use an application like titanium backup
Dear fellows,
I hope this is a right place to ask my question here. If not please please tell me and head me over to an other thread where this has been discussed.
I've rooted the S4 mini successfully (thanks to arco68). Right after the rooting process and installing ARCO's CWM I backed up the stock 4.4.2 rom in any case. I did a factory reset and flashed CM 11 also successfully and everything was good. After a week I wanted to go back to stock. So I restored the backup I made previously. Everything went out good, but now the whole system is inconsistent and instable. I have problems with the WiFi, SD card problems and so on.
What am I did wrong? Any advise is very welcome
I will flash stock via Odin tomorrow and root it again. But I want to avoid this process in future
Thanks

Basically i can't figure out how to fix the phone so i'm going to flash back to stock and start from there.
all i really need to do is restore sms/mms/whatsapp chats
i was able to make a nandroid backup of phone state. it looks like data partition is in a tar gz file that i can extract files from.
My question is, can I just overwrite the mmssms.db and whatsapp database files to restore?
(restoring whatsapp messages from nandroid manager has failed miserably)
for anybody interested, i was able to restore from nandroid sms and mms using titanium backup.

Can you help me on this? I am on rooted Samsung Galaxy S2 Stock (Samsung Touchwiz) ROM. I opened Titanium backup and went to "Extract from Nandroid Backup" -> "Selected the Nandroid Backup from which I need to restore the sms". Then I selected "Messaging" from the list and chose to recover "Only Data". It successfully recovered in around a minute's time eith a message to restart the phone. After restart I do not find any sms from the Nandroid backup Please help!

for sms you can use a sms backup and restore app from playstore. its free and works perfectly. no need of root or anything. just copy the backup files to different phone and use restore option.
