Has anyone tried to swap the internal memory for the external sdcard? I'm sure this is easy for people that know what they're doing!lol,,,,I want to be able to run my books from the sdcard where they're stored also I'd like to be able to run apps from there also but I can't get the card to partition correctly so the phone will mount the 2nd partition from boot...lol had one almost catastrophe!

I know I can move apps to SD, its an option by going to manage applications. What I want to know is how can I move all of my apps to ext to save even more internal memory. I'm currently on void forever. I'm not using ungazed or darktremor. I did download S2E from market but it only allows moving of downloading data. I don't want to run my entire phone off of SD just applications. Along time ago about 2 months ago I did set up a partition l. I forgot the specifics but currently I'm using a class 6 8gb card, so I know it was higher than 512mb

There is no way to move all the apps you want to sd in froyo without ungaze&co.
In cyanogenmod you can move every app you want to sd but apps with widgets will cause errors and other apps wich were not designed to be moved to sd will not run 100% correctly.
With ungaze, I flash the zip than what?

Flash the zip then your apps will be moved automatically to your ext partition.
But there's a catch: in time it is possible to damage your sd card because the apps will run directly from the sd wich is not really designed for too much r&w.
Appreciate the help

Errr.. You are confused.
1. S2E does move apps to the ext partition on CM7 based roms.
2. I suppose you want to use ungaze's data2sd based on your previous posts, A2SDGUI doesn't work with that.
3. Yes you require an ext2 partition. Simply use recovery, minitool or gparted.
link2sd is an amazing app I absolutely love it on my vm670 which has so little internal memory.
Can someone let me know what they are using to check partitions on their removable sd cards. I have partitioned in the past using the 4ext recovery on my old G2 but now want to get rid of the ext,.....
also what format is best to use for the whole card? 4EXT / fatext or what?
Thanx all!!!!
Please help guys,.....
I thought this would have been can easy one for ppl to give suggestions on?
Also I don't have a separate card reader so need to be able to do it from the phone itself or by having it connected via usb.
Pleeeeeeaaaassssseeee help.

You will need to format the card on the phone itself..it will partition in FAT32 format..this is the format S3 used..you can try NTFS but only Siyah kernel will work with it AFAIK..
FAT32 is the format to use here,,
Thank Z.
So if I format through Cwm recovery it will also get rid of all partitions right?....... Data / swap / extdata?...... I don't actually remember how many partitions are on it.

Format it using the Format option present in Storage under settings..or connect it to a PC and format is as FAT32 ..all the partitions will be deleted and you will have a brand new FAT32 partitioned ExtSdcard.
Thanks again pal. Appreciated.

I really want to use TWRP, but for some reason it will not let me select and use the external storage. Everything else works fine tho. Am I doing something wrong? I am out of storage space on my internal and want to use my available external space. Any suggestions??
Running awesome BlackStar V7 on the SGH-I717
There's an issue with the External SD listing coming up under the root emmc folder, rather than under Internal; check there for your External SD.

Kyaroru, I can see the external under emmc, but when I select external it doesn't do anything, like there is no external card in place....if this make since lol.
What do you mean that it doesn't do anything? Does it pull up that folder? Or your selection just stays in the emmc folder?

twrp2 runs off its own gb kernel,
gb storage was /emmc/ and /external_sd
why the op's external sd isnt showing is odd, mine shows but i never use it as flashing/backup/restore is so much quicker in twrp2 when using internal sd *might be because i have a low class microsd*
Under emmc i see sd card but when i select it is doesnt show any files. When i first open twrp it also looks like you can tick external but that doesnt do anything either. Man i really want to use twrp because its fast and easy.
Are you trying to save something to your external SD via TWRP? Or are you trying to access something?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
I am trying to access something. My internal is full and i need to get to my external. I love that all you guys are helping and not just passing over my post. This community is awesome.
Anytime. That's what we're here for; to help each other out.
OK, have you verified via phone USB to PC connection (or using a micro-SD reader on your PC) that your external SD currently has files on it?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
In twrp, internal is emmc and external is sdcard. The external_SD under emmc is not your external SD. Twrp does not use that folder. Depending on what ROM you're using, they may show up different on the phone itself.

Also go into mounts and make sure external is mounted.

i know it sounds silly, but take the battery out, uninstall the external card, re-install it, and reboot and try again..card may not be seated right..
If so, how?
I'm looking to make either a second partiton sd-ext4 on my internal memory as opposed to the external SDcard.
So how do you do it?

Yes, but it is very dangerous to do and may lead to your device bricked forever.

I was actually able to create a partition successfully, but when I went into tarp to flash a rom, all of the directories labels were corrupted symbols. But the ROM actually did install correctly. Has anyone successfully done this?

Weird enough suddenly I found all my external SDCard files have all permissions like:
---rwxr-x
Why !?? This happens to every file I copy onto it.
I needed them like:
rwxrwxr-x
so far, the only rough and long way I found is through Aromafilemanager and PhilzTouch recovery.
Yet I have to change the permissions one file at a time.
Can anybody help?
Sounds like a problem unique to you, I've never heard of it.
Flash the official stock rom, format your sd card in your pc using the industry formatting tool and test.
If the problem disappears then it was probably some combination of your individual setup.
Yep. Also ensure you haven't got any scripts running at startup. Sd permissions are set on boot and cannot be changed afterwards

Thank you, I'll surely restart from the beginning and report back

Any mods that mount folders or swap storage.
Otherwise, something built into the rom.

@boomboomer
which filesystem do i have to use in formatting extsdcard 8gb via pc? exFAT / FAT32 / EXT4 / NTFS ?
moreover, in this post and following on dev rom thread, it seems it's a normal behaviour... am i missing sth?
https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4
Fat32 is the normal filesytem.
If it's common to your rom then your chef is the best one to approach, he may have set a script or mod.

I read through about 7 pages of sd card issues on the s3 and thought i cant read anymore, so i thought i would just ask. I've just bought an s3 and i got my 64gb sd card from my old phone to my new one. Problem is i have data from other games in the SD and titanium back up files in the externel sd card. Seems the S3 has its own built in SD card and only reads from that. I copied my TB files from externel to the internel. Now the games still require Extra files although they are in the externel SD. So how in the world do i get it to read my Externel sd instead of my internel? I thought of copying the files but i have 16 gb internel, 64 externel so its not gonna work considering i have 39 gb left in my 64 gb one,
