Hi!
I recently got my IMEI fixed after unsuccessful update to 4.3 via ODIN. Now, when I try to update via OTA, I get a pop-up that my phone has been modified (due to root, obviously).
My question is: will my IMEI corrupt (again...) if I unroot my phone and try to update to 4.3 via OTA? Anyone tried? Anyone knows? Any answer appreciated.
If the answer is YES, is there any 100% sure way to update without corrupting my IMEI?
Thanks for help.
Greetings,
echowave
If your repair required you stay on 4.1 then they didn't do a proper job. Return to your repair shop and ask them to update it to 4.3, or explain to you why not.
Any update to 4.3 will probably lose your imei, same as the first time.

Hey everyone. I tried searching around with no luck but i rooted a friends verizon fascinate and the ota update fails to install with the message "ip failed last update fail" or something like that after it downloads and restarts. Anybody have any ideas? Do I need to reinstall the stock apps? Thanks
You can't OTA while rooted. Just flash stock GB or a new ROM.
Is there a way to do it without wiping the phone? As in unrooting and replacing the apps?
I'm afraid not. The only way to unroot is to return to stock.

Thank you
Mine is already rooted with CWM and Rooted. Im currently on XXALE9 Stock. Unfortunately there is no response from Software Update on the phone and KIES is saying that Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies.
I heard from another forum site (Non-XDA) that it has something to do with the phone being rooted. I would like to know if this is true. As much as possible I am trying to avoid flashing via Odin.
Is there any possible fix for this?
As most of you might ask, the reason I am asking this is that I would like to officially get the updates for my phone. I am after those updates because those who received them had the Overheating/Warming issue with the phone fixed.
Thankyou very much!
reflash stock rom.
Question has to be has your individual phone actually got an official update .
No update no download via Kies or OTA .

I have 4.1.1 Jellybean on my phone, is unlocked, an had no trouble updating to 4.1.1 from ICS. Now that my phone shows "Updates Available", downloads them files( I think), but does not install and rather says "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available". The new updates I have seen in my mate's phone are good, and as he told me he had no trouble updating to it unlike mine.
What is the problem and the best way to solve this issue?
Also I'd like to ask, if I used Odin to update it manually, will I be able to update my phone with later releases without having to use Odin again?

You answered your question yourself...modified = no ota update. Go back to stock unmodified or easier, download the new version from xda or sammobile and flash via odin
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
OTA on rooted phones.

Well i don't know what you mean with "unlocked" . If you mean rooted then it's easy :fingers-crossed:. You might have rooted with CF-Root or Toolbox or whatever. And in that process you were forced to install Clockworkmod Recovery and that's the reason you can't get OTA. If you want to have a rooted phone and OTA all you have to do is. Root your phone, stay on stock rom and flash the stock recovery via odin. But this means you loose CWM Recovery and a lot of the fun part about a rooted phone is gone.

What part of "Unlocked" is confusing to you? It means the phone can run any sim card of any sim provider, thats what I meant, and no, the phone is not rooted or never even have tried rooting it... Never mind, I factory reset the phone and the update is done. Anyways kudos for your reply
Cheers!
Hello!
Hope there's a kind-hearted soul out there that can answer a few questions:
1. Does system status: custom affect me in ANY way other than to return for varanty? For example, does it stop my OTA updates if I'm not on my default "out-of-the-box" ROM?
2. I'm not on the same stock ROM (different ending, this one has XXEDA2) that I got out of the box. Does that affect me in any way? If it does, is there any way of requiring the correct information for restore from samsung-updates.com without restoring the backup I made of that ROM? Also, I had rooted it before I made the backup, does that affect the basic information of that ROM in any way?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!
hi there,
once your phone is "modified" you won't get OTA updates, but you can always DL the latest firmware and flash it manually. faster than any OTA

1. If your status is "modified", which most likely happens when rooted, you will not get any OTA updates, whereas updates via Kies will work (you will loose root though by using them). Solution: as said before, download the updates manually and flash via Odin or Mobile Odin, faster and easier.
2. It affects you in the way, that you will only get updates (via Kies) that match the code of the firmware. Again, not a big issue, see (1). Root does not affect the firmware version number.
the firmware number will be different for every update that Samsung puts out. you can check out the firmware list here;
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/
and no, root does not touch the firmware number.

Many thanks to all of you! (your "thanks button" got pressed ).
I have Verizon Note 2 that is on 4.3 VRUAND3. The phone was rooted by the Kingo Method, which I think messed with the recovery. The phone has been un-rooted, but will not get the 4.4.2 OTA. It fails on install. The bootloader has never ever been unlocked on this phone. I have read multiple threads on firmware upgrading and reverting to stock.
What I want to know is this: Can I flash the 4.4.2 stock firmware to this phone to update it. I am aware I will lose all data and will have to reset the phone. That is not an issue. I want to make sure that I can safely flash the firmware to update it and not end up with an expensive paperweight.
Thanks for looking and any help provided.
