Use the information in this thread to downgrade
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=51000580
If you take the OTA or load the KDZ yourself, you may not be able to go back.
LG as of today pushes an update to the mobile support tool as soon as it runs from the HW Test program. This update ignores that you've loaded a KDZ with the HW Test program.
If you disable internet connection Lg Update tool refuses to load.
I've verified this for myself after another user here said he couldn't downgrade.

God absolute dammit. Any ideas as to editing the program? As long as the phone itself supports it(as in, the qfuse isn't blown ala Samsung), there might be hopes of editing(or hacking, whichever term you prefer) the Tool.
This is gonna be a problem for all those who have updated to KitKat. Thank goodness I am still on stockmod Ahwell this is XDA, a workaround will be found!

Not to sound pessimistic, but the AT&T S4 and Verizon S4 have been locked down since June, with no exploit found. This could spell quite a bit of trouble.
Wow I'm on g pro 2 port rom. Will try when I go to my friends house and borrow his computer.
There should be a solution soon... But remember the TOT method will always work... Sprint,Verizon, ATT and a few international varrients have tot files.

I dont know that method. Any guide of. Thread for us?
Search these forums. You should find the working updated app in or around the spectrum section, dll in the g2 section(variant specific). Search and you will find. Certain individuals are also skilled in the one time(for "legal/abuse purposes" ) imei rewriting. There's no such thing as not going back with LG, currently. Just isn't made completely easy. This isn't ****ty Samsung.
I noticed this starting last week that the support tool ignored the HW test's loaded KDZ and just started downloading its own file. It took several retries and rebooting the computer a couple of times for it to start recognizing that I wanted to flash a local KDZ. I don't know what fixed it but keep at it. But it's not like it catches you by surprise. It's pretty obvious that it's downloading instead of beginning the flashing process so you should have PLENTY of time to abort.
What uses R&D to determine the correct software? Imei? Current sw version? Current hw version?
I got an LG G2 802 this weekend since I cracked the screen on my HTC One.
I havent rooted yet, and Im still on 4.2.2.
There seems to be alot of differences between these two devices I've had.
Would it be adviced to not update to 4.4 KK if I should get the update available, since Its only a matter of time before I go with a custom ROM.

Well, there's no custom recovery available for the D802 on KitKat yet, so if you update and then want to flash something else, you'll have to downgrade to 4.2.2. IMHO, KitKat isn't that big of a deal on the G2, with custom kernel this device is blazing fast even on Jelly Bean.

When you flash KITKAT, u need to flash RECOVERY and SUPERSU before reboot and you will get a rooted phone
mobile support tool may not work but the flash tool still works...
But if I am on a rooted stock jellybean rom, can I still go back to stock?

You know that doing that mod will make your camera useless if you decide to revert back to LG OS, right? The E973 ROM works as well, granted that it's 4.1.2, not 4.2.1.
You can get the dll on irc as well as a much newer version of LGNPST.

As dbgeek said, you need to grab it from the IRC Channel (LGNPST cannot legally be posted on the forums). Also bear in mind that no developer will officially support the N4 conversion. The can also brick your LGOG. I would suggest waiting for AOSP/CM roms to start hitting our AT&T variant.

Devs are working on it. Now that there's a stable JB ROM (has a couple bugs for some users), I'd be surprised if we didn't have it by end of the month, but that's not because any dev has stated as much. I personally don't see why you'd screw up a meaningful part of your phone to get CM now as opposed to wait a few weeks, even it it took until later March or even April, when you can still have JB while you wait (and debloat it if you so desire).

It is a program used on a computer that flashes factory images to this phone (and I'm assuming other LG phones).
It is very useful if a user flashed something they shouldn't have and can't get into recovery/can't boot because it will restore the system to stock.

Its time for an upgrade and I am eyeing the G3. Its currently $.99 on upgrade, and the price is playing a big part in my decision as money is tight right now and my older S3 is falling apart.
The thing that draws me to this phone is its unlocked bootloader. I have tried to research on my own, and what I have found is that you can get a custom recovery and ROM on a G3 from most stock OOB configs.
However, I cant find any super recent talk of it. That doesnt mean there isnt, it just means I havent found it on this forum or elsewhere and my Search-Fu is probably weak.. I believe I read that the G3 was recently updated OTA to lolipop, and my question is does the CURRENT, brand new G3 from verizon still have the capability to install custom roms? I am no smartphone expert, ive rooted and custom rom'd an old tablet and I am confident in my technical skills, and I just want to make sure that the phone (which i probably will go pick up from the VZW store tomorrow) is still viable because if its not, ill probably get a different phone. I will go deeper into research mode once I know for sure, I am worried though that the bootloader has been locked as this happened to the S3 later in its life after the Kitkat upgrade.
TLDR is a new G3 from verizon still ROM'able and such?
Thank you for your help, this is a pretty awesome site/forum and I hate to bother you all with noobish questions!

Plan on kdz'ing or tot'ing back to the stock firmware (10B), and then root, unlock, and install TWRP (custom recovery), and you'll be good to go to install custom roms! All OOB firmwares from Verizon can be kdz'ed or tot'ed back to the stock firmware, so yes that's a HUGE plus.

That's correct. And whether or not you want a custom ROM, I would still root AND unlock, that way you can install TWRP, take nandroid backups, etc. and thereby make it easier on yourself if you ever jacked up the phone doing something with root. I figure if you're gonna go to the trouble of rooting, might as well unlock too. Just my 2 cents

Technically, it's not unlocked. There is an exploit that allows you to flash custom ROMs and kernels as if the bootloader was unlocked. On the surface, yes. You could say it's unlocked, but it it were truly unlocked, you could flash TWRP without having to be rooted. But you can't replace the recovery correctly without being rooted first. Hence, it's an exploit that skirts around the locked bootloader. It's still locked, but an exploit allows you to flash TWRP after you are rooted.
Here's what I know:
The first thing you must do is root the phone. You can root 24B as stated earlier by an earlier post.
Once rooted, you can flash TWRP but only if you are not on 24B. If you are on the latest OTA (24b), you can still flash TWRP, but it requires some extra steps. However, there is an app for this that you can install and run and it will prep your phone for TWRP and then install TWRP. It's basically a one-click TWRP install. You can get it in the Google Play store at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=b007.autorecvs985. Saves a lot of headaches.
So, I can one-click root my phone. Then install the LG G3 AutoRec-LP app to flash TWRP for me and I'm done!
You're bootloader is not unlocked, but TWRP is a "bumped" version. Bumping is the term they use for taking advantage of the exploit. But, you can't just flash any ROM out there for the G3. ROMs are specific to the model of the phone you have. For instance, you cannot take a D855 version (UK version of G3 I believe) of a ROM and flash it on your VS985 version. You'll brick it. ROMs have to also be "bumped" in order to work and be flashed, hence that is why the ROMs are specific to each model of the G3.
So if the AT&T version of the g3 has a ROM but the Verizon doesn't have that particular ROM, it's because the dev hasn't bumped their ROM for VS985. So, you can only flash those ROMs that are bumped for VS985.
But, the bumped version of TWRP and the ROMs act the same as if you had an unlocked bootloader, but it's an exploit that could be patched in the future. For whatever reason, LG and Verzion have not done that. Not sure why. But, caution on blindly taking any future OTAs. I would wait until you hear whether you can either revert back to a previous version to exploit and still root and bump on that previous version or not. Otherwise, you will be SOL.
As for unlocking the bootloader, that has only been allowed for overseas variants of the G3, but there is one issue that many might now like. When you truly unlock the bootloader with LG's unlocking tool, DRM is removed (which many would love), but then that means, some movie streaming services you use might not work any more because of the DRM removal. So, my feeling right now is, bumping is the best way to go.
Here's LG's description of what happens when you unlock it officially using their tool (mind you, as I stated, this is only for overseas variants of the G3):

I received the 6.0 update tonight. ~788MB download and 20 minute install.
Things I noticed differently:
-Response and fluidity seem better, might be due to it clearing the app cache
-Notification bar is smaller, this is a plus for me
-Messages in the message app are smaller, this is a big plus for me
-Everything LG wise has a more flat material design to it. Looks better than before but still iffy
Will update in the future about the battery usage.

Rooting a stock ROM, and having a version of SuperSU that will work on it are two different things. That's not a root method unless you:
1. Already have root/TWRP.
2. Have the new ROM as a flashable zip.
If so, then after flashing the ROM then you can flash SuperSU.zip.
This isn't what people are looking for when they're looking for a "root method".

@2kool4u526 can you test the auto brightness on this release? On 35B in a dim room the built-in auto brightness made the screen too dark to be useable, although using Lux Lite from the Play Store rectified that.

You'll have to get root before you can attempt to install TWRP. Keep in mind if it screws up your boot with a secure boot error, you might not be able to fix it until they release a KDZ for 46A, if 46A's Download Mode doesn't allow flashing older KDZs, just as 35B's didn't.

Too bad it's not like Samsung with being able to flash a custom recovery via USB through Odin on a PC, at least that's how it used to be with Samsung before Knox - now I don't know.
I've tried looking into if it's possible to build our own KDZ but I never got anywhere. Since there are tools to extract them there must be a way of building them, although they might contain some kind of manufacturer signature to confirm they're official when flashing them.
Wi-Fi Calling?
Can anyone confirm/deny if this version has any WiFi calling capabilities? I know Verizon rolled out this capability for the S6 and said they were going to update other Android handsets in 2016.
Long shot, but I figured I would put it out there...
do we even have any devs working on stock verizon ports anymore? i thought holyangel and hasbadr stopped working on this device

Define "anymore". @hsbadr , @HolyAngel and @xdabbeb all released 35B-based ROMs, and the only one of those three who's phone situation changed since then is @HolyAngel 's.
Before the KDZ is available (or rooting a stock build of the OTA at a minimum) it's too early to find out if anyone will release a ROM based on it. Heck, if no one else did by some miracle, I would, based on what I learned from @hsbadr and @xdabbeb.
Only those three devs might know if they would update their ROMs, and we shouldn't ask them. Either they will or they won't depending on if they feel like it.
(I know you weren't asking them so please don't get upset)
i know hsbadr didn't have the phone anymore when he did 35b.
Really hoping we can get a Jasmine update for MM, I mean maybe someone can make a poll showing how much demand for one there would be?
Yeah idk if I'll be supporting it or not at this time, at the least need kdz or system dump.

I've been looking around the forums to see any progress made. Saw the bounty threads but came across this on the Verizon LG V10 forum.
"rootsystem with TOT vs990 made by tungkick"
As I cannot post links cos I here am newb, just wanted feedback. I really do enjoy this phone but think it would be better with root. Anyways, I do understand that they are different phones but maybe same method would apply? My phone has the unlocked boot loader but recovery cannot be flashed to gain root. Not trying to drone on here but just curious.. Thanks!

His root is for lollipop. The Verizon version does not have and unlockable bootloader. There is a rooted MM update the T-Mobile version here:

If you do, make sure to read the instructions 10 times to make sure understand them clearly.

Unfortunately I updated to the MM but my boot loader is unlocked. From my understanding of reading various sources, the inability to flash a custom recovery on MM is the current dilemma. Threads get buried so quickly so maybe I'm missing something. But TY [emoji4]

That is the rooted official MM update for our phone. It's not lollipop. If you updated via the kdz or ota, then your stuck waiting for root like others that did it that way. AutoPrime is working on root so hopefully it's just a matter of time.

I've been reading a lot too. From what I read is that FlashFire by ChainFire might be the only chance we have to flash a custom recovery. I've tried searching for it but I can't find a link to it. Im rooted on MM already but I still would like to know..

I read an article about it too. Not sure if any link was posted though. Chainfire is well known so you might be able to Google him and find his stuff.
Edit: I found this and it has a link to the download. I know people where asking about it but I haven't heard if anyone tried it. Supposedly it keeps root and custom recovery intact when you upgrade via ota. Don't know if it would help in your case since you are already on MM. You can check it out and see.

Back when I was using a Moto Cliq the Devs found a way to flash a custom recovery using the stock recovery. I was wondering if theres any chance that will still work.
The file was named update.zip and it would flash it.. Just a simple reboot back to recovery and there it was.

Like I said, I think it's more for preserving root and custom recovery during an ota update. I have seen stuff like that done in recent years, I think something like that is how they got root and custom recovery on the Verizon G4 last year.

I just want root for getting rid of bloat and spyware. I talked to a friend who works at TMob and he says reason it's getting harder to root is because unless you buy the phone outright, it's a lease. He mentioned that the JUMP program isn't really profitable, hence all this difficulty. Patience is a virtue...Pfft.

To be fair im already rooted and on MM Rom by Eliminater74.
But I tried FlashFire to see if it'll work.
Downloaded an earlier TWRP build and renamed it to recovery.img and it flashed fine.
The app needs root for it to work. Now maybe this will work for those that have root but no custom recovery..Im not too sure. Also not sure if the app is also searching if it has a locked or unlocked bootloader.
Im not positive if the fastboot command to flash a recovery is blocked on MM but its flashable using FlashFire.

But you are not on an factory updated MM firmware - right? Your present MM is a custom rom mimicking MM. If yes, that's why you did not lose root...On factory MM update it is not possible to flash recovery either way...

I didnt update via LG Bridge or OTA but
Its not mimicking MM. Its a Rom but its TMobiles official 20e update.
But I was just testing to see if it will work for flashing a recovery.img after MM.
Not for losing or gaining root.
Thats why having patience paid out for me. Everyones quick to have the latest and greatest not knowing the consequences it will have.
Now if we can get a root injected 20e .kdz or .tot file and flash it with LG tool or bridge (or how ever the other versions of the V10 gained root)
Then unlock bootloader
Theres a chance FlashFire will get TWRP to flash.
Just need a root injected 20e .kdz or .tot

What's with people saying Eliminator74's rom is mimicking MM? His 20E rooted rom is the official T-Mobile update. His Korean port is the one that mimicks MM. I'm not trying to start anything, just trying to clear things up. If people update via OTA or use LG Bridge, they are on the official 20E MM software. If people update using Eliminator74's stock rom, they are on the official 20E MM software. Hope this helps clear any misunderstandings about it. [emoji106]

I haven't update to MM yet. It downloaded to my phone early Tuesday morning and has been sitting there nagging me to update. I am still on stock rooted Lollipop with the latest unofficial TWRP for the our V10. I'm debating on trying Flashfire. Chainfire is an excellent dev and has done and continues to do great things for the Android community so it's possible he is heading in the right direction. All of our great devs are working hard to crack this for people. Autoprime and The Cubed and their teams worked hard to figure out root for the G4 even after other devs and users had given up on that device. Have no fear, our devs will figure this out, you just have to have some patience, it will happen. [emoji2]

It appears LG is going to release the upcoming Google Security Patches to the LG G line and newer models. This apparently includes the G3, but not sure if that includes the Verizon version of the G3. So this will include all the January security fixes from Google.

That's a strange version. I would have assumed it would be 49B or 50A. Never seen a 4AA before. Weird.
But thanks for the info!
TOT back
For those interested I was on Fulmics 6.7, I toted back to 10B, Kdz to 49A and took the 4AA update. Wanted to see if I could TOT back and yes you can. Toted back to 10B and Back to Fulmics. Just a heads up for any one interested.

I think I see what they did. It's hexadecimal. In base-16, A follows 9. A equals decimal 10. lol
So my apologies to the previous poster who did give the correct version. Since I don't have a functioning G3 anymore, I had no way to check it. I just haven't had the heart to throw away/dispose of my G3, yet. It sits on my desk. RIP G3. :crying:

Ever since 48A, I don't believe you can root. You have to downgrade to 47A to at least use Kingroot. Otherwise, for all non-K models, the best option is to TOT flash to 10B and use Stumproot and then flash a custom stock-based ROM. XDEBs is the most popular.

First, you have to verify what version of phone she has because if she has the K model, you will not be able to flash custom ROMs as you cannot downgrade to 10B. You can only KDZ flash to 47A which is still marshmallow. Have you done a factory reset first?
If so and she still is having problems, open up the back, remove the battery and see what her model number is. If it ends in a K (such as VS985K, or VS985WK), then you are out of luck and cannot downgrade and flash custom ROMs. You can only KDZ flash 47A, 48A or 49A images which does a factory data reset (you'll lose all data). So if you go this route, then backup all her data to your PC first.
If the model number does NOT end in a K, then you can downgrade to 10B via a TOT flash. Again, backup ALL data on her phone as it WILL be lost.
You can find instructions to downgrade to 10B here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/general/lg-g3-downgrade-to-10b-t3354834
If she has a model K and you want to flash to 47A or 48A or 49A, then you can follow these instructions:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/general/guide-flash-to-stock-10b-kdz-method-t2928140
You can get the 47/48/49A KDZ images from here:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=35484
NOTE: Read, read, read, and then read all the instructions one more time. Make sure you completely understand what is required and how to do it. It's hard to brick it beyond repair, but you can put it into a bulk mode which requires opening up the device, and exposing the motherboard so you can short two pins. It's not completely undoable, but it can be a pain if you put it into bulk mode. That usually happens when someone flashes an incorrect boot image onto the device that is not compatible. So, again, read, read, and read again the instructions and ensure you understand everything before even beginning to attempt to flash.

Thank you thank you! I purchased a used Verizonn G3 recently to use with the BYOP program on Straight Talk. I have to have a CDMA variant where I live. I had recently rooted and installed a custom ROM (and extra goodies) on a D850 (AT&T G3) for someone else, and liked the outcome so much I HAD to have one! So after finding a very good deal on a Verizon model I couldn't wait to get it redone. That was a little over a month ago, and after first doing my diligent research on the exact procedure to use I found in horror that not only had the AA patch already been put on my phone, but that it was causing problems to those who had updated, mainly in that many could no longer hook up to wifi (mine will NOT hook to wifi, and I have found NO remedy). Then I read by someone who had tried flashing back that it had caused his phone to reset the IMEI to all zeros, and rendered it useless.. So I chose to leave well enough alone figuring that someone would figure it out soon. In all likelihood the person who had screwed up his phone flashing back did something wrong, but I didn't want to chance it. Since you found that you can indeed do it I can't wait to get 'er done! Well I will wait another day or two I guess because I will THOROUGHLY research what I need to do and make sure I have all the right things downloaded prior to actually doing it because it is the only phone I have now so I really want it to go smoothly, which I've found it almost always does IF the instructions are followed to the letter and you've read over the entire thread to make sure that your bases are covered concerning any problems that did surface. I suppose many may think I'm overly cautious, but to date I've rooted and customized quite a few devices for people, and to date have not so much as soft bricked one yet.
Again thank you for being the "guinea pig" and testing this!!! You have no idea how much it's appreciated. You just made my whole week better!
