[Q] Help with Internal storage - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey there.
im new here, so i hope i havent done anything wrong...
i own a i9100 running CM 10.1.3 android ver. 4.2.2, rooted.
every once in a while the phone freeze, and i need to restart it manually, but im ok with that..
now, last week i had an alert says internal storage is low.. and so some stuff wont work.
so i deleted few apps until it was fine, and stopped the auto update for all apps.
and yet today i got this annoying alert again. so i was assuming that there is something growing there under the hood..
I downloaded this "storage Analyzer" and i appears that "/data/log" is over 1 GB and it filled with thousands of small log files, about 1 MB each.
so i guess i found that growing thing.. but i cant get to it... nevertheless get rid of it...
I would appreciate some advice that not including connecting the phone to the PC, Although if necessary I will do so..
Thanks!!

Hey.
I solve the broblem by erasing the files using "Root Browser".
The app have the permmision to delete on system partition.
So in matter of speaking I cracked it.
Although I don't know what created those "log" files..
Is there to know which app created those files??
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app

Hey,
I solve the problem using the ADB Shell commands and the phone root privileges using my pc.
I deleted the content of "/data/log" using "rm -r /data/log" , there was hundreds of .log files each about 2 MB which used 1.8 gigs of the internal memory of the phone.
it was very frustrating process, but hey.. i did it..

Problem downloading applications on LG P506.

So, I've been unable to find any threads on this so I don't know if this is a common problem or not. My phone is rooted but I'm not quite sure if I'm using a mod, if I am it's a clockwork mod or something, I honestly don't remember what I used to mod it cause it was months ago. Anyways, I'm having problems downloading certain applications from the Google Store. It downloads it then when it's about to install it gives me an Error saying, "Couldn't install on USB storage or SD card" and it only does this with certain apps, I'm able to download and install or update a lot of applications but it only does this to certain apps, I've tried turning my phone on and off, that does nothing, I would turn off my phone and take everything out but I'm not quite sure if that would work either.
I was wondering if there's a solution to this because I'm trying to download a new theme for my GO Launcher EX and it keeps telling me I cannot download it, it's done it to games that I've had before too, it's really weird.
Glad to know that none of you can help me.

May be this could help:
MarketFix
I also had this problem when i am new to android.i definitely know that u don't use any aap 2 sd script and use default app2sd.go to your sd card(do it in pc) then go to folder .android-secure and delete a file (i don't remember the name of file)which extension is different of all file.
The market fix thing don't work. And the only app2sd app I have is with android assistant app.

Ok go to sd card then .android-secure and delete file "smdl2temp".do it in pc not in phone.
Thank you! It worked!

Problems with root (some apps work, some not)

Hey guys, hate starting new threads, but this time I just had to. Here's the deal:
First I had a Galaxy Ace. I rooted it, and used root normally for a couple of months. Then something went bazzerk (don't know how to spell bazzerk xD), just as it is on my new Xperia neo. My root explorer works flawlessly and I'm able to mount my system r\o / r\w when ever I want and explore all sys files. BUT, my ROM toolbox, GO backup, etc. all apps that actualy "touch" system files (I mean change or retrieve the above), freeze when a command is given. I.e. I want to move an unmovable app to the sd card. The file IS moved, but the app freezes on "loading". GO backup: I restore a file, it's completely restored, but the app frezzes on 99% even though the job's done. Why is this happening, and is there a way to fix it?
Thank you all, and cheers
P.S. This problem sometimes just vanshies, but it's back a few days later.
P.P.S. I tried restarting, taking the battery out, restarting SU, and restarting the freezing apps, nothing erases the problem.
Have to you tried to factory reset in your phones settings?
If you´re rooted check the superuser app and loock at the log
what does superuser state?

No, I think that would fix it but then I'd have to set back everything on my phone, which I don't want

Superuser says everything's fine. I already mentioned I can see all my root files with no problem. But when another app tries the same, it freezes.

Installed, checked. Says it's rooted. I'm using Superuser and it's reporting no problems. Still freezes when an app changes something.
The thing is root works, I mean I can backup\restore app data, freeze apps, etc. but after the phone does this, the app freezes, even though it's done. A very strange problem. Is there anything I could have accidently made to brake it (exept disallowing an app from Superuser rights, I checked that three times; allways allowed) ?
I remember that i faced such problems a few weeks ago...
some root file explorers denied me the acces to the root files while i tried to change a bootanimation
root acces was granted but it didnt worked
afterwards i tried another root file explorer and it worked fine
why ?
i dont know but something went wrong with the first file browser
Try SuperSU v0.95
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
Thank you all, it so happened that this version of Superuser didn't quite well support these versions of apps. Just changed the ROM Toolbox to a newer version, and it works perfectly.
:good:
apparently not working after root
noob here, I did my first root today, and have only been an android user for 2 weeks after defecting from apple since the first iphone. I was a jailbreak veteran of idevices, but I got bored with the stale bread, so I spent my taxmas on a Samsung galaxy s4. Specifically wanting the i9500 version so it would be unlocked to use on net10. I followed the steps from website, and video on Odin. And it looked like it worked perfectly. It wasn't until I tried to my photo gallery app to look at some pictures, and it crashed and wouldn't load. I had the same issue with a business calendar issue app that wouldn't open. I tried clearing system cache on gallery app but no luck. I'm afraid I'm in over my own head now, and might want to restore and start from scratch. The first thing I did after rooting was a full Titanium backup. only things that I installed after root was xposed installer and an app within the installer called swipeback.
I would like to know if there is a fix for this, without having to break away from root? Or if I must, how do I know which stock file I need. I know it's i9500ubueMk1 but there's many different regions.. I bought from a best buy in Charlotte . If there isn't a simple fix to fix why my apps aren't working, then the root does more harm than good, and I wanna go back to normal.
Someone please walk me through this!!
thanks

I had the same problem. Theres nothing wrong with your phone, its the app. Instead of root explorer, download root browser. It works better

[Q] Per HTC I have unique unknown issue - help?

When I install apps on my device and move them to phone storage (/mnt/sdcard/ i believe as apps can no longer be moved to the external sd), if I restart the device any application that has been moved is gone. The icon is still there but when I select it I get a message that says "application is not installed." Verizon & HTC both told me it was an unknown issue - but it's now happened to me on 2 consecutive devices, both of which I've done a factory data reset on, and the second time I also wiped my external sd card.
Any ideas? I'd love to know if this is something I'm doing with my settings, or if my google profile is corrupt, or if this has happened to anyone other than me. Would rooting help? That's the next step anyway just to see (or S-OFF?) Thanks in advance for any responses.

i tried deleting the external card via the phone's data reset mechanism, but haven't tried a different card yet - I didn't think that could be the issue because the apps are moved to "phone storage" not the external sd, but i will try that next.
how do i know if it's FAT32? i saw this thread for formatting and will do when i get home, but is there a way to check using the phone?

idk how to check via phone, might have an app for it.
but when you move app to sd it adds some data to .android folder that is stored on the external SD card.
try pulling everything off the card and put it on the pc, format via windows pc, then put the stuff back and try it out. if you can get a different card and try that.
I am rooted and am running CyanogenMod (0717) and my apps sometimes just disappear. I have noticed with one app in particular. My Play Music app seems to just disappear off the face of the earth (metaphorically speaking). I thought to myself, "Hmm, maybe I just uninstalled it by accident.". Because I have done some pretty crazy things while I was asleep or just plain old being me. I went to the Play Store and found it on there and I noticed that the Play Store said it wasn't installed. I went and tried to install it. I got an error code (-24). I went and researched it and it actually never disappeared. (Well kind of didn't) I went into /data/data/ and found it sitting right there. The folder to the application was still there, but it appears that the OS lost track of it. It almost seems as if it forgot it was there. (But of course that is almost impossible for a machine that is coded to do something cannot possibly forget like that. The error code I received was saying that the app folder existed and couldn't be overwritten. Sorry if I invaded in this thread, but it is just similar experience. Did you try and reinstall the missing apps and see what happened? Did you get an error code like I did? And I am assuming you are on 4.0.4 (stock) OS, yes?

Ok so we're going to go deep and nasty with this here. So far you've ruled out rom based issues since you've moved from the stock RUU to CM10.1nightly(I suggest running mdmowers builds honestly). I too had a weird issue with getting apps to move from "internal" to "phone" storage(both are internel to the phone, just different partiitons). The next few things are based on my dealings with embeded linux and flash hardware.
First are you using the SDcard partition swap patch supplied by jose51197? If so, this could be a wacky thing where the linkings are going bad because of a failing SDcard and that could be your problem.
Secondly, are you runnign out of space in the /mnt/secure/asec and /data/ partition and your phone is doing wacky things because of this? Check by plugging your phone into a computer with ADB installed on it and do "./adb shell df /data" and "./adb shell df /mnt/secure/asec". If they report very little space, usually apps start failing silently because they've got no space to write their added data.
If neither of these things are the case, then its the phones internal flash memory that is failing. This does happen, usually though only because of excessive writting and deleteing things(app churn, text messages with auto delete on, testing multiple roms) from the internal memory, and can only be dealt with by getting a new phone.
Best of luck.

No they aren't installed on the SD card and I haven't seen it happen for a couple days. But in response to jiggz88, by apps failing silently, do you mean they open and they close suddenly without notice? Or that they just don't exist. I was using the unofficial mdmower builds when CyanogenMod was going through some rough times and apps such as Play Music would close suddenly without notice. Especially when you entered My Library or Radio on it. Is that what you were referring to? Or just not showing up at all in the installed apps (or whatever).

that's definitely different from my issue. Play Music has never been one of the apps that disappears because I can't move it to phone storage partition at all. also not that error code, it only tells me "application is not installed" nothing else. by checking available memory it doesn't appear that the apps actually get uninstalled as no more space is available after they are magically uninstalled, it's just that the system no longer recognizes that they're there. yes stock 4.0.4 OS. when i reinstall the "missing" apps they reinstall and work just fine until the device reboots (which has happened 3x in the last 24 hrs) and then they are "gone" again. hoping to try reformatting ext sd card tonight or tomorrow if i can finish enough work first; if that doesn't work will root.

Alright sorry for bloating your thread. Hope you get your problem fixed as I haven't ever experienced this issue.

Rooted my phone and moved some apps and now I can't install anything. Help?

Hey guys, I'm using the LG Optimus F6 (or D500). I rooted it today and started playing around, and now when I try installing any apk file I get an error saying "[app name] could not be installed. Free up some space and try again", however I have more than enough space on both internal and SD. I have no idea what's going on, and if anyone knows about this I'd thank you forever.
I'm going to list everything I did after rooting just in case it means anything:
Moved a few apps to SD and uninstalled bloatware
Tried to move chrome browser to sd by converting it to user app, and then it disappeared and I can't download it to the market due to "insufficient space"
Changed the boot animation in ROM Toolbox (which didn't work)
I'm not sure what caused it, but the issue appeared after I messed around with chrome with seems like a terrible idea cause I didn't really know very well what I was doing. Has anyone had this issue or know how to fix it? Thank you so much!
What do you mean disappeared? The file must still be there, use es file explorer and search for it.
Otherwise you'll need to flash the kdz for your phone.

Strange problem with internal memory filling up without reason.

My mate has a I9100. All firmware is latest Nordic stock, it has never been rootet, never flashed with any firmware or anything.
The available internal memory of the device gets slowly filled up without reason. We don't know why, but we expect it to have something to do with charging. Every night he charges the device and every morning there's a little less internal memory available.
The other night my friend set it to charge, and when he disabled the charger, only 75 MB of internal memory remained. He has no where near that amount of apps installed to only leave such a small amount of available memory.
This has happened about four times before, and every time a factory reset is needed.
Have any of you heard about this bug before, and do any of you know how to remedy this issue?
I'm thinking about doing a full factory reset and install latest Nordic stock ROM via Odin but I'm open for suggestions.

Hvilsted

i dont think its related to charging he must be having an app which may be increasing storage by saving logs ,some temperory file high amounts of cache memory sort of etc,or loads of apps installed may increase app data + cache to a huge extent for example whatsapp is only about 13 MB but after using it for some months it is now 50MB!...BY THE WAY how much memory is eateN?factory reset and reflashing may help ...does his phone have virus?
I have the same problem!
I've already made factory reset, and also deleted some useless files in the "log" (about 500 files of 50kb each)... but the problem remains. I checked in my computer and in the internal memory of my phone there's 0kb available!! How and why is this happening? There's always a message that says "Full internal memory".
I've searched in this forum if there's something similar to a factory reset for root users that let the internal memory as the default usage... I mean, there are a lot of internal folders of apps that were already deleted last year and I don't know why are they still in the internal memory...
I hope someone have some answers and I already thanks everyone for reading this!

Hi,
I am not on this forum often but I found a way to regain memory and get rid of the 'Storage space running out' if this helps.
Right click on the storage space item on the taskbar and select 'App info' then when the android media app details open -force close (I ignore warning about knock on effects.
Even if you didn't get the 'storage space running out' but your internal storage is showing as just a few Mb's - open FX file explorer and make sure that - 'show hidden files' is shown.
Open Main storage and open each folder in turn. Scroll down and look for 'Nomedia' file and delete from any folder that contains it.
Do the same with Media card and sometimes in System folder as well ( although most are 'access denied' on non rooted phone)
I read that the Nomedia file is incompatible with some of the later rom updates. Restart your phone and check your internal storage - hopefully you will see that the memory is restored. But this works for me. Repeat this as necessary.
Best regards and I hope this helps.
