[Q] Xperia P fastboot Troubleshooting - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hello and good morning!
I know this shouldn't have been my first post and i'm most likely to break a forum's rule but i really need help.
First of all, I have to tell that I'm a complete noob in "rooting" and "unlocking bootloader" etc.
Yesterday, as i was following Dewanshu93's guide for Rooting/Unlocking Bootloader/Nandroid Backup//CWM/Flashtool (http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-u/p-development/starters-guide-help-newbies-flashtool-t2107775), fastbooting my Xperia P to unlock bootloader was a total disaster. At first everything was ok. The phone was connected and Windows started installing some driver called "S1 Fastboot" (something like that) but it failed. Since then, every single try i make to fastboot ends to my Xperia P being charged.
Battery was up to 55%.
I am using JB 4.1.2,
Build Number is 6.2.A.1.100 ( followed DoomLoRD's guide to root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-u/p-development/p-doomlord-easy-rooting-toolkit-v17-t2335992
Phone is rooted using the guide listed above
Bootloader CAN be unlocked
I have installed Android SDK
I searched the forums for a while but didn't find anything to count on. Hope you guys can help me or give me an alternative.
Sorry for the inconvenience

In your Flashtool folder. Then open drivers and run the file inside.
check all needed drivers (xperia p / fastboot / flashtoo(at the bottom of the list)
then it should work.
if you have more problems then upload flashtool log.

Install ALL drivers from flashtool(atleast p/u/sola/go, fastboot+flashtool drivers) as suggested above. Also I read somewhere that fastboot doesn't works in USB 3.0 port, so try with USB 2.0
Cheers,

I have downloaded and installed Emma from the official website (developer*sonymobile*com) because the links in the guide are dead.
In dewanshu93's guide says there should be a C:/Flastool folder but there isn't.
Please excuse my lack of knowledge. I'm trying to learn

I am trying to unlock all my phone's features. I read pros and cons of rooting/unlocking bootloader and thought i should do it. What i'm exactly trying to do right now is to follow step-by-step a guide i found at the forum. It says I need to download a file i can't find. The file - according to the guide, is somewhere in the XDA forums.

You only need to unlock bootloader if you want to install custom kernels, To use DooMLorRD's easy rooting kit you don't need to unlock bootloader.
And there is no need for no file what so ever.
Before you continue, try to connect the phone at flash mode(volume down while connecting to USB) and fastboot mode(volume up), the phone must be turned off of course.
Open flash tool while you do it, flash mode should stay connected for about 45 seconds, fastboot im not sure but I think it's indefinately.
Unless you can have flashmode stay connected for more than few seconds, do not root or unlock your bootloader, this is the key for recovery, and you don't want to mess up with your phone unless you are sure you can recover.

I actually need to download a .ftf file because my xperia P won't show in "device" category in flashtool.
PS: Flashmode failed with error "device disconnected" even though i didn't disconnect the device or stop holding volume down.
PS2: I have already unlocked my bootloader. I want to install kernels to exted battery life and improve overall performance

I will say it once again and no more, if you brick your phone ehich will happen sooner or later you will regrate it dearly if you don't have flash mode functional.
Did you install flash and fastboot mode drivers that come with flashtool?
Which OS are you using?
There is no need to continue holding down volume down key, only while connecting, it won't help keeping it in flash mode once established.

First of all, thanks for your patience. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Also, i have installed Fastboot, Flashmode, and Xperia P/U/Sola drivers from flashtool as suggested. When i connect my device to flashtool as "Flash Mode" it seems to be properly working and expects me to flash it. I suppose that the file i am desperately looking and i can't find is to flash my Xperia P.. Guide says to put that file in C:/Flashtool/Firmware. The only file that's already in that folder is "X10_V1_BLRelock.ftf". I don't doubt the guide's decency and as i can assume from the comments below it is a great guide.

You don't neet any file to unlock your bootloader, just go to Sony's site, get your unlock code, click the BLU button in flashtool and follow the instructions.

[Q] Brick lvl:100 !! Help?

Hello XDA members
2 weeks ago i bought a brand new Neo V and fully updated it from SEUS
1 week ago i started reading your forums [facepalm]
Yesterday i followed a series of tutorials on the Neo V Development forum and i managed to brick my phone [facewall!!!]
What i did :
1) Download lots of stuff!!!
a) .42 ftf file from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19808360&postcount=3
b) flashtool from it's original website
c) DoomKernel's rooting script
d) CWM script from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19733978&postcount=1 (the 1st way)
e) S1tool from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18013064&postcount=44
2) Use them ALL!!!
a) Install and extract where necessary
b) put .42 in C:\flashtool\firmware
c) put everything else in C:\SETools\ to act tidy
3) Feel like McGuyver!
a) used needle & wire to unlock bootloader with s1tool [success]
4) Take the big step!
a) flash .42 firmware with flashtool [all OK]
phone took it's time to reboot, scared me to death! at least 4 full minutes :/
b) use flashtool to root from the Advanced>Root>ZergRush menu [Fail]
it seems flashtool failed after first part.
c) used DoomKernel's script and rooted phone [all OK]
d) reboot and enjoy! [all OK]
.42 firmware was ok, root ok, boot was slow.. other than that everything worked. (except market, could not download anything!)
e) used Upgrade Service from phone menu and found .62 OTA upgrade. [Failed]
phone downloaded the new firmware, i pressed install, that was it.
And thus my Neo V rebooted to complete the upgrade to .62
The upgrade was never completed, the phone never turned on again.
No SE logo, no led, no nothing!
Everytime i press the power button nothing happens, if i keep it pressed for some time the led flashes green every second.
Everytime i connect it to the PC usb it goes to flash mode on it's own, no back key pressed.
When plugged on charger led flashes green every second.
Last thing i tried was to reflash it (since it went on flashmode) with .42 again.
Nothing there
Still, i would like to see it alive once more since 200 euro for a green led is not really a bargain
Any help appreciated!!
Ok if the pc recognizes it you should be able to resurrect it with pccompanion, seus or wotan client
Sent from my MT11i using Tapatalk
Will try, though phone is not really recognised..
it functions only as when turned off and pressing back button while connecting to pc usb.
EDIT : Installed SEUS again and tried to do an upgrade (only option available through support zone)
Failed first couple of times, then it popped up a new window asking to repair since update is not working.
Asked me phone model and downloading ATM, will report soon
EDIT 2 : Nothing with Pc Companion or SEUS. It reflashed the phone with .62 firmware but the phone is in the same state.
About Wotan Client, i would love to try it but i have no idea how to install it or run it, it asks for credits and i don't think reflashing will help in this case.
wotan flashing is free bro, just download their client and follow steps most probably u will get ur fone back to ur life. best of luck !
Just a thought, the phone acts as if the back button is constantly pressed and i find that VERY weird..
Also, SEUS discovers the phone as "Sony / Sony Ericsson" (?), is it possible that this has to do with the s1tool driver i installed before while unlocking the bootloader?
wow, thats what i call entire history of your phone
anw you experienced OTA brick. because you have unlocked bootloader.
strange, some people get brick some don't, with un-official(s1tool) method.
but with official, everyone get brick.

they werent wrong, but if I think on which tutorial you mean, it says its for people with locked bootloader.
now when you have unlocked bl, your life is easier
you can simply use custom kernel which have root included in itself
go to dev section, you can use galaxian or bbooff kernel.
while you are there check sticky threads to see how to flash kernel.
after you read those, ask if you have any question.

Thank you all SOOOOOO much!!!
Wotan worked, my phone is up and running on .42!!!
So now about tweaking a bit, those kernels support official roms only,
if i wanted to go for something more goodlooking, faster, nicer.. what would you suggest?
No, those kernels arent only for official rom's.
And about custom roms, I'm not the one to talk about it much, as I'm not so much into custom roms dont have enough time to test them.
so you will need to go trough development section and find something you like. remember you can also look in neo section, most of the roms can work on your phone with minor modifications.
also remember, first read then install
So.. i managed to have a working phone and now i am trying to flash galaxian.
i went on cmd, started fastboot with appropriate command and plugged in phone pressing the menu button.
Now in device manager i can see "S1boot Fastboot" and it is not recognised, what am i suppossed to do????
-turn off your phone.
-hold menu key(the right one )
-connect cable
-you should see blue light on led on the side, do you see it?
-go to folder where you have fastboot.exe file
-hold shift key and right-click of mouse anywhere in that folder except on files
-sellect start comandprompt here(or something like that)
- type fastboot devices
-tell if it says something.
Seems like you didn´t install drivers for fastboot...
i thought they are included in adb drivers !?
Well i have installed the whole android sdk with it´s drivers.
As long as it is unrecognized in Windows (no drivers installed) S1Tool has no Chance to detect it

u havent installed the correct drivers, connect the phone again in fastboot mode, go to device manager, select s1tool fastboot, click update driver, browse for it manually and point it to the the folder in which you have fastboot, done.

If you dont want to brick phone with new custom kernel, use ,,hotboot,, function.

If you dont like kernel, just reboot your phone

Trying to unlock bootloader on x10 mini pro

Hi chaps,
After trying a gingerbread rom and finding it too slow, I see most other roms require a custom kernel for best performance (and being able to use most other roms!)
Anyway, I'm running through the tutorials in the stickied Guide in this forum and during the unlocking the bootloader instructions it keeps telling me to switch my phone off.
Now it doesn't mention having the phone plugged into the PC at any point in that section but I assume you have to for the SE Tweaker tool to work .
My problem is that in the first couple of steps I'm told to turn my phone off yet as it's connected to the PC, it keeps switching back on to charge ie. it's not staying off.
So naturally me being afraid of bricking my phone and it being a first time for me, I haven't progressed past this part. Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Turn your phone off and leave it disconnected from your PC
When the unlock procedure asks you to plug in your phone, press the back-button while you connect the usb-cable to your phone.
This way you enter flash-mode, which is what the tools require.

I can't seem to enter flash mode :/
I hold the back button and connect the phone to the pc. Initially it installed some flash driver onto the pc and then booted up as normal.
Now it just boots up as normal no matter how long I hold the back button (throughout the whole process so far)
Does having xrecovery have anything to do with this?
Thanks
Edit - my antivirus was quarantining s1tool.exe! derp.
Edit 2 - Success! Thanks chaps. You're all pretty cool in my books

Help
Hi,
i don't know if this comes under this section also,
i lost the post that i was using to update my x10 mini pro from 2.1 to 2.3 after my pc freezed and restarted.
So my SE finished the update but it's stuck on the Sony Ericsson text on boot up in faint brightness.
I used flshtool 0.9.0.0
rooted the phone and installed busy box.
restarted the phone with the blue screen menu a selected the NAa kernel from SD to load.
After that rebooted the phone then sony ericsson text came very bright then it starts to faint to minimum and nothing else happens.
If i connect flashtool i will get the following:
02/046/2012 14:46:55 - INFO - Device disconnected
02/047/2012 14:47:16 - INFO - Device connected with USB debugging off
02/047/2012 14:47:16 - INFO - For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode

02/047/2012 14:47:27 - INFO - Android version : 2.3.7 / kernel version : 2.6.29
i even tried SEUS but nothing happens it would ask to reboot in flashmode and the device will enter flashmode and nothing happens.
also tried to restart with the blue screen menu by pressing power and the back button multiple times and back with volume + and - nothing occurs.
I downloaded ver 0.9.1.0
and tried the force root and here is the log:
Any solution ?
Thanks in advance.

You have to flash the kernel from flashtool:
Put the kernel zipfile in the /firmwares folder where you installed flashtool
Choose the flash-button
Choose the kernel
Connect your phone in flashmode and it will be done (if your bootloader is unlocked)
You can not install a kernel from the sd-card using the CWM (blue screen) menu
The reason your phone doesn't boot up is because your ROM and Stock kernel are not compatible
If you're succesful in flashing the kernel, you should be fine.
There is no need to root your phone before you flash the kernel, and the ROM is pre-rooted.

In your original post you said you tried to install the kernel from sd-card using the CWM menu, which is impossible
I suppose you have to unlock the bootloader first, in flashtool it's under the plugins-section.
But you first have to make sure it is safe or you can brick your device doing that
Go find the post where you got the kernel from, it will have a link to the bootloader unlock tutorial.
Use that to get instructions on how to know if your device is safe to unlock.
Then use the bootloader-unlock in flashtool's plugin-menu to unlock the bootloader.
Then flash the kernel.
stuck on text sony erricson nothing else can be done
Yes i did the root and unlocked the bootloader.
and loaded the kernel from SD card using CWM menu.
It was asking to load the kernel from SD card,
i wish i could boot with CWM to give you the exact steps.
The device was i guess able to work but i read somewhere in forum to try rooting again using force psneuter
and that was when things changed on the device cause i used to see in Clean Root icon in flashtool lot of apps and commands in red now only ls: in red is there!!

You can NOT flash the kernel from the sd-card
Only from your PC, and your phone does not need to be rooted for that, you only need an unlocked bootloader.
stuck on text sony erricson nothing else can be done
Ok I understood that part.
My question is how to fix my device if possible, i made a mistake somewhere there and don't recall cause i gave up after i looded the rom i think from SD card.
it's over 2 weeks and now i have some free time to try to fix it with the hope of getting someone here on in the forum to help me out.
Thanks

hmm, weird, normally the only problem there is that SEUS says there's no firmware available Keep pressing the back-button till it actually starts flashing.

[Q] xperia ray stuck after sony update

Hi, I have a orange network locked xperia ray st18i locked bootloader. I downloaded pc companion and did a software update and all went well. The phone booted up fine after the update until I shut it down and since then I have been unable to get passed the SE screen. It just hangs there. I am able to enter flash mode by pressing the down button and plugging the usb in. Tried phone repair option and still no jog.
Today I tried to unlock the bootloader using the pin touching menthod but that didnt work either. Said something like fatal error....
I need to unlock the bootloader to try a alternative rom to see if that works or revert back to the stock orange rom it came with but im cannot find this anywhere. I am a learner so any advice would be helpful. CAn anyone suggest a rom for the ray that can be installed using flash method WITHOUT unlocked bootloader? I am a **** for doing the uprgrade via sony website but I didnt think this would happen. should have left it as it was.
Thanks for reading.
Take your battery out and try reflashing again using SEUS.
Thread moved to Xperia Ray Q&A.
Yes I have tried that many times already and it finishes the update correctly but still hangs on the SE logo when turned on. I tried again just to see if anything has changed. When I connected the phone whilst pressing the down vol button it recognised it and said your phone already has the latest software but I re installed anyway. No change in result though.
Sony have asked to send the phone to repair and they will reply with a quote for fixing it. Has anyone used this service before and how much can i expect to pay for a software install? Repair office is in Ashford, kent.
thanks

HAD YOU READ THE FIRST PART OF MY GUIDE YOU WOULD ALREADY KNOW. Had you even read the stickys in the General section you would have found one.
Right so I created the .ftf file from the three update files. Ive downloaded x10 flash tool. I connect the phone and flashtools registers that a phone is connected then start the flash but soon after the phone just gets disconnected.
any idea's?

Download the latest flashtool (I guess it's 0.9.x) and install it. Go to the drivers folder and install all the drivers for all the phones and modes. Now you launch flashtool, but don't connect the phone! Click on the flash -> flashmode -> select the ftf and don't exclude anything (you have the ability on the right site).
Now click OK and the screen to connect the phone in flashmode appears. Shut down the phone, wait 20 seconds, hold volume down and while holding volume down connect the phone to PC.
Wait until the flashing process has finished and hope it'll start!

can you please explain it, step by step,
because im a newbie, i just studied this rooting and custom ROM things in two days
i think its not enuf huh.
thanks for the suggestion
Download mode can be achieved by first
power off your device
Try a combo of power and one of the volume buttons
When the buttons light up keep holding till you see a yellow triangle
From there plug into your PC
Then attempt to "flash" back to a working ROM with your PC
For my device(s) download mode is found by using the #1 button on the hard keyboard and the power button at the same time (epic 4G) and for my (my touch 3G) other device it can be found by pressing volume up and the power button.
For your device try the following Google search, just replace the bit between the "<>" with the name of your device and it should pull up a solution by page two of the Google search
"how to"+"download mode"+<name-of-device> similar:XDA
oh and the issue you're having is called a "boot loop" and is usually fixable by going back to stock and re-rooting after.

Hi, Do not panic. I faced a similar problem today, and the best solution for it is using FLASHTOOL to flash the stock .ftf firmware.
From the sticky threads, download the stock ICS firmware for the phone. Also read up on how to use the flashtool.

Move the unlock section to after the flash 757 section
.532 is the onlt firmware that has a root exploit, use the one that is linked in my downgrade thread, will work on all versions of the ZU locked and unlocked
Root with binaries tool - use option 0 or use [NUT]'s tool (see
my downgrade thread again)
That's it for now, will have a close read soon...
Thanks - @blueether -
Updated thread.
You can probably remove the section about the camera as that was a Z1 issue, not affecting the ZU
I am glad to at least see you guys trying to put everything into one thread.
This is still a huge amount of instructions for a newbie and any reduction would be great but at least having what you currently have put into one thread is still a major improvement.
Good going guys and thank you very much!

Great! We got one process shortened.
I am neither a programmer nor a hacker but I will try to contribute what I can for a "Rooting Xperia For Dummies" guide.
The next suggestion is actually lengthier but may make a scared newbie feel more safe since it comes from the Google Play Store.

why not change that to download an app from the "safety" of the Google Play Store?

It appears to be a good app that works better than always dialing code for someone who plans to access the service menu regularly anyway.

I wasn't criticizing anyone in the post that you quoted. I was just explaining what I believe needs to be done.
I have posted in more than one thread that I don't have any tech skills to make contributions in that regard. The goal of simplifying and streamlining the root process for the public is going to take someone with developer skills that I simply do not have. I don't know the first thing about Linux and know nothing about writing Windows batch files. How much more humility regarding my tech skills do you want?
I get it. You guys are content with just doing rooting for yourselves and could care less about how OEMs mistreat their own customers let alone give empowerment back to the public or even stymie development to a degree that rivals Microsoft for that matter. If anything, I have seen more sympathy towards OEMs and patronization towards the public posted on this site.
I won't bother you guys any longer nor will I attempt rooting my phone with instructions on how to root and unroot all over the place in many threads with the lack of support being what it is on this site.
Have fun continuing to live in your own world indifferent to the rest of it. No wonder the rest of the world doesn't like nerds. At least I figured that one out after all these years so it wasn't a complete waste of time coming here.

meh
Lordmanhattan and I, and a couple of others that dont post so much now have put hundreds of hours in to help others, bring all the info into a couple of threads.
If someone has a problem with the process and has not just "how do I root my ZU" we (the general users of this section) will go out of our way to help.
I feel that having all the info in one post if counter productive, it becomes too much to read, too easy to lose you way - foss mantra: small tools to do small jobs => small guides to do small steps
The process is not that difficult, but there are many permutations of what the user is starting with and what they want to end up with.
Again: If they ask an intelligent question in the guide threads they will get a concise answer, if they open a new thread with the same question that has been answered 100 times before they will get a shot answer that they may not like.
The process is not overly broken, people just need to be less self entitled, not everything in life is as simple as they are
Could not enter Recovery after flashing 757 kernel
Thanks for your helpful post.
I just have a problem at step 25 (Go to Recovery) under ROOT 14.3.A.0.757. Everything was fine until I attempted to enter Recovery mode to install SuperSU. After flashing the 757.img kernel, I disconnected the cable, pressed power button, and hold volume down (I also tried volume up) button when the Sony logo appeared on the screen. But my phone just kept booting to Home Screen.
I was wondering if anyone had had the same problem? If so, please help me to fix this.
Thank you in advance.
Update: I managed to enter Recovery mode by pressing both volume up and volume down after pressing the power button. Everything is fine now. Thanks again for a very clear and complete step-by-step guide for a Noob like me.

You're not supposed to hold the volume button up/down, but you should simply press it once or twice when the LED lights up above the screen
Hi, I am trying to flash my phone following the steps for Flash 14.1.B.1.532 ftf file to phone. Once I get to step 13 I have a problem. I am using Flashtool to flash the ftf file in flash mode but there are no files to select from. I have already placed the ftf file in the firmware folder.
PS:the flashtool is version v0.9.16.1. Has anyone experienced this problem?

Hi blueether. Thank you for your link. I would like to ask you a question. My ZU firmware version is .290. Should I update to 757 then downgrade to 532, root and back-up the TA partition. Or should I just upgrade from .290 to 532, root and back-up the TA partition. Which do you think is the best way? Thank you.

for a start 532 (4.2) is older than 290 (4.3)
@ OP This is the porblem with yet another guide thread about rooting the ZU...
As of 4 or 5 days ago you dont have to down grade at all. With the thread I linked to you can root any of the current Sony firmware I think (untested, but 767 will root).
I would:
upgrade to the latest 4.4.2, Sony's x.x.x.767 FTF
root with the tools linked to in that thread
back up TA
unlock BL if wanted/needed
