Hello all!
I'm not quite sure if I'm in the right section or not, but here it goes..
Last week my friend gave me a free Samsung galaxy S2 (I9100), but I couldn't manage to download any free apps from the internet.
So I tried rooting it, I tried many posts all over the forum but nothing worked because the location/name of the sd card is wrong.
My sd card is called "Sdcard0" in my file managers, but in recoverymode it's name is "Sdcard". And yes, ofcourse the recovery mode happens to say "Could not locate "Storage/sdcard""
And using a computer is also not an option, because I have to purchase a new adapter.
Any ideas how to fix this?
I would really appreciate it.
With kind regards,
Marnix409
Any ideas?
From what I understood, you seem to have issues rooting your device? If that is the case, here's a tutorial that might help:
1- If you are using stock Gingerbread 2.3.x, download "siyah-2.6.14-CWM.zip", extract the .tar file and flash the file using ODIN 1.85.
2- If you're using stock Ice Cream Sandwich, download siyah-5.0.1.tar and flash it through odin
3- If you're on stock Jelly Bean, download siyah 6.05b.tar and flash through ODIN, or download dorimanx v8.43.tar and flash it through ODIN
Simply, check your Android version in Settings>About Phone and root your device easily with any of the above methods. if you don't know how to use ODIN or boot into Download Mode, simply google these terms and you should get more answers and detailed threads. Good luck

I am trying to upgrade my samsung galaxy S with kies.
But it stuck when "preparing firmware upgrade components..."
after that nothing happends for hours.
Can someone help me with this?
Kies Mini is junk, IMO. I recommend scouring the forums for your preferred update files (PIT, TAR, and the proper Odin version).
Also, if you want help with this you'll need to post more information -- like your model of phone, carrier, etc.
Seriously, I've been using Odin 3 v1.85 with a lot of success. I had quite a bit of trouble with all the "one-key" rooting programs, tried Odin and got everything working the first time... Well... the first time after switching out my cable. (don't use the stock USB cable for flashing. Pop the extra cash for a decent name brand cable)
Also, don't freak out if you can't get the phone working properly after messing it up with Kies. As long as you can get the "download mode" up and running, you should be able to flash with Odin and fix everything.

I like to update with KIES because I need to put the phone on service so I need original ROM.
First I uploaded android 2.1 from samfirmware and can't upgdare, after I put android 2.2 and it is the same.. even If I use spooffw program.
Phone is Samsung galaxy S and I need version of program with MOT.
I tryed to upgrade in 2 computers but always is the same

what if you try updating to 2.3.3 and then use spoof fw to set it to MOT?
I took a look at samfirmware, i'm not sure if there's the right version.
did you make a backup of your stock rom, after having rooted?

I am almost soure that samfirmware doesn't have right version.
I didn't make backup. My friend have the same phone can I backup his ROM and restore on my phone?
I use spooffw and already set it to MOT but stil can't upgrade.
does he have a stock phone? nothing done yet? which android version!
if it is below or equal 2.2.1 u should be able to root it with superoneclick http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
then you can install rom manager from market, make a backup of his rom, and restore it on your phone.
i think this could work
I think it is below 2.2.1
I will check and try.
Is there a way that people see on service that I have rooted my phone before?
If you manage to unroot it and flash stock kernel and rom...which your friend should have, they won't!

What about some counter which count installed ROMS
Never heard about that before.
maybe. You should google that
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
it exist only on sgs2 but it's easy to reset using the USB dongle.
To counter-act the counter, look on Ebay for a Samsung Galaxy "Jig". Make sure your model is specifically supported. It will reset the ROM counter to 0 and put the phone into download mode. (And it will restore almost any kind of bricked Galaxy S)
Please board members, correct me if I'm wrong, but using Odin vs Kies doesn't affect the ROM install. That is to say, a tech looking at the phone's data files couldn't tell if it was Odin or Kies that was used for the flash.
Look up your exact phone in the forums, go to the development subsection, look for a subject heading that says "[Odin]" and "[Stock]" that doesn't also have other ROM modifications such as "[rooted]" or [ext4].
Hello Everyone,
Firstly, I need to say that as a previous owner of an original droid, I was able to root it with no problems on the first go around. However, as a new owner of a Samsung Galaxy SII I am finding root a real challenge.
I have no problems getting into download mode and so on....I have successfully placed the clockworks rom onto the phone with again no problems and I have all the drivers working properly. I guess this is where I am obviously an idiot....because I start the Super One Click and it gets to Step 6 and then stops. I unplug the USB....click the debugg off and then back on and reconnect my USB like directed by many posters. However, in my case it will not continue on and finish the install.....
I reboot and do get the small triangle on boot up ( not that I care too much about that really...do have a jig on order however) but I simply can't seem to get it to root.
Again I have followed all the posts and guides for unplugging, unchecking and rechecking the debugging and then plug back in the USB and still nothing.
Phone works fine....everything works...love the phone...just seems puzzling to me. I have Odin 1.82, I have SuperOneClick 2.1.1 and like I said installed the .tar fine to the phone with no worries....just cant get it to root.
Any advice?
"....I have successfully placed the clockworks rom onto the phone with again "
Do you mean kernel with clockwork recovery ? Because if so,the kernel suppoused to be rooted already.
I firs downloaded the below file, Then downloaded ODIN 1.82 and all associated samsung drivers. I also downloaded SuperOneClick 2.1.1.
The instructions were to load the .tar file on first which I did successfully. When I go to the final step and use SuperOneClick to ROOT the phone is where the problems happens. I can't get past step 6 and unchecking and rechecking the debugging box at step 6 does not help.
SGH-I777_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3.tar
Try an alternative way I used the one described on the CyanogenMod-wiki. Worked like a charm for me.

Where did you get it from?
I'm not familiar with this method,i gues because it's AT&T device ?
I believe I downloaded it from this site. It was part of a guide to rooting the Galaxy S2 phone. It had all the files for download in links at the very top of the page but to be honest I have looked at so many pages now I can't remember where I got it on here.

Moving to Q&A
Oh dear, what model of the Samsung Galaxy S II are you using? If it's the GT-i9100(the international model) then you've used the wrong .tar file. Obviously the "SGH-I777_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3.tar" file is for the AT&T S II.
Do pay close attention to the model number.
hi guys, I'm a new owner of samsung galaxy sii 9100g, I tried to root my device but it seems that there was something wrong in my procedure. and my procedure was as below:
1. I downloaded the GT-I9100G_DZKI1_insecure zip file which it was not the same kernal as the origin one the my phone has.
2. I used Odin3 v1.83 to pass the insecure kernal file and it was done ok
3. finally, I used S2Root_1.5.1_Release to root my phone, and also it was ok.
But yet it was not rooted and I couldn't install any custom rom in recovery mode, it wasn't seen at all.
so please please help me to root this phone.
Device Manufacturer: SAMSUNG
Device Model: GT-I9100G
ROM Build: GT-I9100G-user 2.3.4 GINGERBREAD JPKH8 release-keys
download any gingerbread 2.3.6 firmware.
choose a custom kernel of your preference. lucifer, streetware, superatmos etc. download and flash with odin.
once rooted, download whichever rom you prefer
I upgraded my Galaxy S II I9100G to ICS V4.0.3 , then i tried to root using V4 of zergrush toolkit & tried both the methods (conventional & memory crash) & both the times i used the "edited runme.bat" !!! The process goes on till it reads
"ALL DONE!!!
Press any key to continue . . ."
After the device reboot there is no evidence of "superuser" in the app drawer nor is there any evidence in the device info (settings->about phone) !!
In short this method is not working on my ICS upgraded I9100G !! Any help will be highly appreciated !!
Is there a proper rooting solution for ICS upgraded I9100G ??

I used advanced method 2 its really easy. Took literally 2 minutes.
i Failed once again
Thank you ad_ek and the others for your reply.
i think I have done something wrong to my device. now I could send kernals with Odin, but my mistake was when I installed this custom rom (cm-9.0.0-RC1-i9100g.zip) without making any backups or even be sure of rooting my phone correctly. now it keeps starts up in recovery mode only and i could install cm-9.0.0-RC1-i9100g.zip and SuperROM_v3.1.zip. this last rom asks to be sure of permission and reboot, but it reboots only in recovery mode. i also was able to root my device with (root.zip) which installs many files like superuser but nothing was change one recover mode.
i tried to download Update Galaxy S2 to Android 2.3.6 XXKL1 Firmware but it was only one big file which i couldn't download because of my internet low speed.
now I'm only keep looking at a dying phone
So not a development topic, its a question. Moved to Q&A
Hi all,
How can I update my S2 galaxy to the new 4.0.4 ICS which supported the Arabic (JPLPC)? I'll be grateful if you help me in this..
Cheers
JPLPC is 4.03 not 4.04.
read how to use Odin, download the file from sammobile
put csc in csc put boot in boot loader put phone in modem and other largest file in pda.
before and after flash wipe is recommended.
if there is a 4.0.4 arabic version, i wouldnt rush to flash it, but there isnt as the above me said JPLPC is 4.0.3,
there are two ways to flash it, that depends on how your files are
BEFORE ANYTHING CHECK IF YOU HAVE THE BIRCKBUG
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1693704
1. download this file incase you didnt download the rom yet
http://hotfile.com/dl/157253309/75a5bbb/I9100JPLPC_I9100OJPLP9_OJP.rar.html
2. download the odin flasher
http://www.mediafire.com/?zno66bwe89w3k08
3. extract your rom on to the desktop (it doesnt really matter)
DELETE .PIT FILE
shut down your device
press home+power+power
you should now be in download mode, make sure you have your drivers correctly installed
plug your device into your pc, make sure that it finish's its driver installation correctly
open Odin
BOOTLOADER= I9100_APBOOT_I9100JPLPC_CL537255_REV02_user_low_ship.tar
PDA= I9100_CODE_I9100JPLPC_CL537255_REV02_user_low_ship.tar
PHONE= MODEM_I9100XXLPW_REV_02_CL1131641.tar
CSC= GT-I9100-MULTI-CSC-OJPLP9.tar
make sure that you see a yellow rectangle when you plug in your device
THEN PRESS START
this is just a rough guide for a better one search xda forums there are alot
Thanks guys for your feedback, it's worked!
any time my brother, always happy to help someone from my country, im happy to help anyone from anywhere, but its just that people in my country dont know much about android (root, flashing roms, kernel, etc.) so i try to support them more, hopefully i can get more people from my country to become dev's, or am i dreaming to far

Hi All Below I occidentally posted in the Galxy SI900 instead of here< I got the usual replies but was grateful all the same. Maybe someone might help before I revert to stock...
Hi all, I know this has been done and dusted but I am having problems with connecting to kies after rooting. I am running standard jelly bean 4.1.2 and is an Australian GT-I9100. I installed the siyah kernal root system and now all I get on kies is "connecting" Windows 7 recognises and I can access the phone via explorer on the PC. The phone after a while comes up with a message that there is no compatible software on the PC, install kies...
I have tried all the so called fixes including formatting the internal SD and memory. The only thing I did before it stopped connecting was the root and running Triangle away (paid version). I have enabled / disabled USB debugging. The only things I haven't tried is a factory reset which I don't really want to do as I am always sceptical that the backup apps will work after to restore everything.
Any help appreciated

Yes, Kies definitely sees the phone as it comes up with GTI9100 loading on the left top and in the centre it just sits saying connecting. I think the phone is not seeing kies as the message on my phone always comes up only when trying to connect to kies.
I have tried 3 computers/laptops same result. Different USB cables original plus other really high end ones also. No Joy. Looks like if I want to connect to kies I must revert back to stock kernal as the firmware I never changed it is the OTA from samsung 4.1.2 and rooted the S2 only...
Also Not knowing Samsung but in the about on my Motorola Tablet/phone even when rooted when you try to check for updates they say none available, the samsung actually says "Your device has been modified, no updates available"...

Now I am not using KIES, because I use AOSP ROM (4.3 Slimbean), but in past, when i was using STOCK ROM (XWLSN, XWLSS) I used "PhilZ-cwm6 - Safe Stock Based Kernel" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877270 to root my phone.
If I remember correctly, KIES was working with PhillZ, but it is few months ago ...
So you can try PhillZ and see If it will work.(If do not need any special feature from syiah kernel of course)

Okay had a look at this, thanks. I do have a question though, my Kernel (PDA) is XWLSH, I have downloaded the 2 files but I am wondering how to install? Do I use my CW recovery or do I have to revert back to stock? A little confusing as he dowsn't really give instructions and I am pretty much an amateur when it comes to some of these things? Also I am running JB 4.1.2 he only mentions ICS 4.0.4? Help appreciated here...
Actually just re-read the post and I think I know now what to do. Correct me if I am wrong but the 2 files I downloaded are for 2 different methods of installing, the Zip file via SD card and the MD5 file by odin. Is this correct?

Yes. ZIP is for flashing from recovery and tar.md5 is for flashing from ODIN.
Maybe the best way will be to reflash your whole stock firmware to get correct previous state before you started flashing syiah. You can get it on Sammobile.com - (simple registration needed) and then use PhilZ recomended method - flash ZIP from stock recovery
What is your Country / operator, Try this http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/2/ to find right and latest oficial firmware for your country / operator version for your phone.
edit: For XWLSH it may be GT-I9100LKJXSA - unbranded australia version, or GT-I9100LKJOPS - Australia OPTUS operator customized version.

Hi Again, solved the problem... definitely the siyah root was the culprit. I used mobile Odin to install the stock kernel, once done checked and could connect in kies and was still rooted missing busybox only. After that I again used mobile odin to install philZ, again no problems and all seems fine now. Everything working.
Thanks a million for helping and also many thanks to mobile odin developers as this is a far better tool than most and saves connecting to the PC Odin. Also seems a lot safer...
