[Q] Boot screen and then turns off - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I've been trying to update my Gingerbread I900 for a whole day now, but it's have been full with problems.
It all started when I tried to flash a CWM recovery for JB with Odin, that it made it so each time I tried to turn it on, the boot screen appeared, and then it turned off again, along with a triangle warning sign.
Now, I've tried everything I've found on the web, which caused a bootloop, which I solved by flashing Siyah kernel, but now I'm back at square one, where the bootscreen appears, and then it turns off.
Can anyone give me a hand?

Flash stock firmware with Odin to upgrade/fix. Or do you want custom rom?

I was thinking on using CyanogenMod 11, but at this point, I just want the phone to work, regardless of rom.

If I was you I would want custom stock rom installed. Cm is OK but eats battery compered to stock. Some custom stock roms have the cm/aokp look so you get the look but battery is still good. What do you want?
Easy fix is flash stock firmware from sammobile.com with Odin and that should sort it out and get it working.

OK, found one of my carrier, but I don't know where to put it (PDA, CSC, etc)
The file is called I9100UHMS8_I9100CHEMS3_I9100UHMS1_HOME.tar.md5, and it came in the zip file CHE-I9100UHMS8-20130503103606.
Do you know where should I put the file?

Follow the instructions in the thread stickied near the top of Q&A titled 'Flash stock firmware'.

[Q] When we flash to official ROM does our Kernel flash to official too?

Hi Guys,
Recently I rooted and flashed with the custom Kernel on my SGS II. But now decided to go back to the official ROM.
So my question is, when I flash it with official ROM (through ODIN). Will the custom Kernel be replaced by the official Kernel that came with the official ROM?
Thank you in advance to the kind soul that replied.
Yes.
Sent from Galaxy S2
Yes, if you needs custom kernel again then you have to flash it separately via Odin again.

If you don't have jig, I suggest to flash to ics first, use triangleaway and then flash back to stock with mobile odin

No official ics releases yet. They were just suggesting a round about way of getting rid of the triangle by flashing a leaked version of ics then using an app to remove the triangle then use something like CWM or mobile Odin to flash back to a GB Rom.
Like I said long winded process.
Just flash an official firmware. Then flash cfroot kernel for that version of firmware. Then if you want to get rid of the triangle use a USB jig available for a few dollars off eBay.

SII I9100 rooted OTA update

Hey Galaxy SII people, I need some help with a friend's SII.
I'm quite knowledgeable with custom ROMs and recoveries, but I have no idea what to do with a stock phone.
The phone is rooted and not getting the OTA to ICS. I want to get the OTA, losing root not necessarily a problem.
Can someone give me a hand with this? I have no idea what I need to do.
The phone also has the stock recovery.
I apologize if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find a conclusive, comprehensive answer.
Go to samfirmware and download the update firmware and install it via odin.
All the best.

Flash stock ROM from http://samfirmware.com/ via Odin. Search for galaxy S2 ROMs, just make sure you don't download the dangerous ROMs (the ones with a warning triangle next to them).

Thanks for the quick reply.
I'm downloading a zip now. I flash this with Odin/Heimdall? I thought I needed a .tar and a bunch of other files to flash with Odin.
This won't keep root, right? Is there any way I could get root back after flashing?
Also, will this wipe /data?
Oh, and I have the option to download a ROM for a specific carrier. Does that mean I can't use another carrier?
Edit: While I'm at it, is the stock recovery needed for anything stock ROM related?
Yes download will be in the form of a zip file, once downloading is complete you can extract the tar. file and place in the PDA section of odin. This will not wipe your device, well never has done for me. Yes you will loose root as you have a completely new rom with stock kernel. See the guide for rooting your chosen firmware. As for the carrier i always use the unbranded /open version as this has less bloat ware. All the best.

Make sure you don't have repartition button ticked or play with the pit file if you don't 100% know what you're doing either

Unrooting, everything back to normal

Hi. I have rooted my S3, to see how it works with PS3 joystick (i am not too impressed)
I have rooted successfully via odin flash guide, but now i get strange problem.
Every now and then, when i want to turn on dispay, it works and show me that clock and then when i swipe to unluck, the phone doesnt respond.
When i power again, display dimms, and nothing happen. I cant unlock my phone, I need to hold power button to reboot, and than it is normal till i lock the screen and want to turn it on again.
My question is, how can i solve it, and if i can't, how can i get everything back to stock and normal?
Try turn off ripple effect in setting, see how it goes.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
First of all, try disabling lockscreen entirely.
Then try performing a full wipe. If nothing changes, flash stock firmware via Odin. If this haven't helped, root your phone, reset bootloader flashing counter via TriangleAway, then flash full stock firmware and make a warranty claim.

As i thought, now, without changing anything, the problem goes away. But i think it will came back
I forgot one big thing!
!!!! When i first flashed PDA, i flashed it with something CF, not insecure kernel (MY FAULT). Then i got this problem but i can say that i couldnt use my phone. Only just after reboot. Then i flashed insecure kernel, al now problem is still here but it is not so often, but i must fix this.
So maybe the problem is because i flashed wrong file, so "bad" files are still here?
Is there an easy fix for this?

My problem is back, so i tried this 2 first things. To desable lockscreen entirely, and to turn off ripple effect. No, it is still not working..
Start from scratch again. Backup your data, flash original firmware with odin, root it again, triangle away if you want.

You can go to sammobile.com to find the latest firmware for your country. Then follow the instructions as in the link you posted above.

Are custom roms for s3 better than original? I had HTC Hero for almost 3 years and i had custom roms for it but it was only because i wanted it to be faster and smoother
For me, yes custom roms are better than original stock rom.

How do i go back to stock kernel

Hi my friend has sold his phone and needs to get back to stock kernel from siyah 4.1.5. Is this possible without use of pc.
Many thanks

I think you can use mobile ODIN and flash a new firmware there.
Thanks was hoping there was a simpler way as he only just managed to flash a rom. Is it possible to flash a stock kernel through siyah.
Thanks

23732 is right. But to make it more precise - open your stock TAR rom file in mobile odin (all partitons in the app will be filled in). Then clear all of them but kernel. Then flash only the kernel partition. No need to flash anything more to come back to stock kernel.
