Connections Problems - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I'm running CM 10.2-20131014-NIGHTLY
I have been having a few issues with the phone recently.
My wi-fi doesn't work, I can't connect with the wi-fi of my house. Sometimes it will be stuck with obtining the ip adress, or says connecting but no luck.
I don't have bluetooth anymore, it says turning bluetooth on (the key is grey not blue).. and then goes back off. I had tried with the botton from the notification bar but it doesn't work either.
I don't have any network connection (3G, G, H, H+), the phone works fine with incoming/outgoing calls, sms but not internet.
I don't know what to do, I have been using this version from a long time and never had problems.

Go to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache in advance and reboot. Test it. If its not working wipe data and test. and if all else fails full wipe and reflash rom and gapps.

I have done the wipe cache and dalvik cache, didn't work.
I have done the wipe data, didn't work
I have been searching and I found that CWM keeps untouched the internal SD and keeps rom and kernel, so..
If in the worse case i have to go back to factory how can I do that?
I really don't want that...

The only ways to go back to default are to DL the firmware from sammobile and flash it with either....
PC Odin...
or
Mobile Odin....
Sent from my infected_ KitKatted S2.....

What I want to know is if there is a way to fix those problems without having to get back to factory.

Well you could always try @hawkerpauls ROM and kernel nuke scripts and then re flash your ROM.......

kernel scripts?? Can you explain this, please?

What they do, as I understand it, is perform a 'deep' wipe of the intended partitions prior to flashing a ROM....which essentially allows you to 'clean flash'.........all the info you need can be found on the thread.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100558
Edit....having read the thread, it looks like I was wrong.......looks like a KERNEL wipe script is not available......might still help to 'nuke' the other partitions though.....

Wi-Fi was working a few minutes ago but now back to not working.. In my phone appears the wifi of my home and says that the signal is excelent but when I press 'Connect' in my phone appears like the connection is poor and don't connect..
I was wondering if reinstalling CM would work..

Today I 'fixed' the 3g connection problem by changing some APN values, now I can use Whatsapp but I can't connect to internet.
First the following message appeared: ' authentication via the proxy server was unsuccessful'.
Rebooted the phone, now this message doesn't appear anymore but pages won't load, play store says 'Connection time out'..
Phone calls/sms working fine.
Any suggestions?

Wifi won't connect on CM9 ICS roms

I'm trying to install a CM9 ICS Rom (specifically one of these builds) on my tab, I can install the Rom with no problems however my wifi won't connect. It will turn on and it can see the networks however when I touch one to try to connect to it it changes to say saved and doesn't connect. If I press and hold on the network I want to connect to and then touch connect the popup box disappears and nothing happens. Everything else seems to work it just won't connect to a wifi network. I have tried the builds from both 2/29 and 3/4 and have had the same problem on both. Any help would be greatly appreciated
I apologize if this has already been asked I tried searching the thread to no avail, and also tried asking this question in the development thread but got a message saying I couldn't not post there because I don't have ten post.
I have been using custom Roms on Android devices for several years and have never had any problems until now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
have you tried wiping cache and dalvik cache in cwm? Or maybe a factory reset and try fixing permissions as well.
If that doesn't work, I'd re-download and flash the ROM again
I wiped both cache and dalvik cache before I flashed should I wipe them again after flashing? What does fixing permissions do? I've never used that before.

Try updating to beta 10 over the ota. Wifi is related to the kernel.

If post #8 does not help I would restart from scratch:
1. Do a Nandroid backup
2. Install latest stock firmware
If Wifi is still not working you might have a hardware problem.
If Wifi is working you have good starting point for further investigations

ok I had the same problem, as in when I go to the settings and I click the turn on wifi button, It just says Turning on wifi in the middle of the screen and wifi never turns on. Here is what I did to fix that.
keep in mind that I have the Revolt ICS v.0.9.2 rom installed
1.boot into download mode(i think that's what it is called) press power+volumeup+home
2.navigate to reset/clear factory data
3.wipe cache
4.go to advance and wipe delvik cache
5.re-install rom
6.wipe cache
7.wipe delvik cache
8.reboot
This fixed the problem for me. Hope this helps
Cheers.

Do you mean Recovery or Download?
I always thought Power+Home+Volume Up were recovery.
Just saying, it doesn't really matter.

MAC Address Unavailable after Flash

I am running a rooted TF201, and recently got NVFlash. I am on the latest Vicious ROM, and am a recent convert to TWRP. No matter the ROM that I flash, I get a "Turning WIFI On..." eternally, and when I go into settings the MAC Address is Unavailable. I have tried to flash CM10, EOS3, and CM9. All of them load clean, and I can tether off bluetooth, but I am unable to get a MAC Address to turn on the Wifi. I know this is not a hardware issue, as Wifi is working just fine on my Vicious nandroid. That is the only way I can use Wifi is on that specific backup. I have tried to wipe, and reload that ROM thinking my Prime just liked Vicious, but the Wifi was broken then as well. I have done a few Factory Resets, and wiped and flashed anything I can think of to try and fix it. Thank you very much in advance.

When you installed these roms, did you wipe cache, dalvik and factory reset? Most devs say to wipe all 3, if you did try androwook rom though its discontinued I have never had a wifi issue. Actually I am running eos 3 build 37 now and it works also. You didn't do any kernel switching did you?
Sorry, should have included that. I did wipe everything every time, and I haven't touched a kernel. I am lost as to what is happening. I am using TWRP 2.2.1.4

Did you run a checksum on your downloads to make sure they are complete? I don't think I have seen this issue in the forum other then the kernel being not quite right...
I think there is something (i did) wrong with nvflash.... i'm stuck with another mac-address http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1812773
I hope some nvflash devs can look @ those wifi problems. I also saw warnings on xda forums using nvflash, because it can change mac, imei & serial.
Yes, i made sure the downloads were good. I made some backups, then I used this file
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1670824
Placed a good fresh EOS3 ROM and GApps on my microSD, ran the wipe and Still didn't get a working Wifi. I am welcome to try any kernel option, see if it works.

I was able to get a clean fresh ROM to open and make a WIFI connection. After a full wipe, Virtuous Prime 9.4.2.28 v1 to load and work with no issues. I have a C2OK serial number, think that may be a reason I am having issues with other ROMs? Is it a way this particular ROM loads? I had tried other ICS ROMs, and I would have the same issue as JB ROMs, so I don't think it has anything to do with it. I got full function back, but am wondering why I can't load other ROMs.

Mine is a c1ok but i haven't seen anyone with a particular serial number have issues and I do read a lot of posts... full wipe should in theory get you where you want to go but you may have something else going on.. bad download, bad cable (this I have seen) the bad download sometimes ends in failure to flash at all.. had that tonight actually lol... re downloaded checksum.. all good now... I have had a few oddities going from one rom to another but a second flash sometimes clears it up.. never had issues with wifi unless there is something up with the kernel...
Come to think of it.... there were a few posts that said they required a double full wipe... it's an option if your willing to put in the time.. full wipe, adb push wipe file again... wipe then push rom.... if i was going to take that route, i'd push androwook rom I went from that to jb EOS and haven't had any issues....of course that means cache wipe, dalvik wipe and factory reset in between....
I tried what you said, I'm and using the wipe zip, I triple wiped, and then loaded Baked ROM 4.1 to see. Md5 check was done of course. I got wifi to turn on, but it will not find any networks. I have reset my modem/router, and restoring my old ROM wifi works and connects just fine. I am going to repeat the process with a different ROM to see if it may be that specific ROM.

I am confused too. I did the same, using the wipe zip, and between wipes I wiped dalvik. I wiped three times, just for good measure. I then flashed AndroWook Hairy Bean v1 and AndroWook Prime v2.6, not at the same time obviously. With each ROM, I was unable to see any wifi network on my TF. The wifi may turn on, may not, but it will not even show any network. I am at a complete loss. I am able to connect via a blue tooth connection to get Internet with both ROMs.

[Q] PACMAN ROM wifi stuck downloading

International Player 5,0 on PACMAN ROM wifi stuck on downloading status. Happened before and went away for no apparent reason and now is back to stay. Wifi was working fine, but now the playstore sticks on "downloading." Since wifi was working, and still is for other stuff, would using a different kernel help? Has anyone resolved this?
Sorry, noob not allowed to post reply to someone else in dev thread reporting this problem already.
I had the same problem. Found no solution. So I had to do a clean install wiping everything.
That worked, of course.

ya i would say that maybe boot into recovery, backup, wipe: dalvik cache, cache, factory reset, system. then go back and install the rom again and see of the issue persists.

Thanks for replies - will bite the bullet later today (located S.E. Asia, so a bit out of sync).

Wi-Fi goes slow.

Hi,
I have a problem with my Wi-Fi. After a while it starts to go very slow. I have checked it with a speed test and its about 0.5 mbits. I first fixed the problem with a factory reset, but it came back after a day.
I have since found that a cache wipe, from the stock recovery menu, fixes the problem too, but it comes back again after about a day or even less.
I tried some cache wiping apps, but only the wipe from the recovery menu seems to do the trick.
I am on stock JB and I don't want to root out put a custom ROM on yet as my phone is still under warranty.
How can I find out what's causing the problem? It's getting rather annoying having to go to the recovery menu every day.
Thanks

That is strange? Maybe its an app you have installed or maybe a bug in the filmware. Head over to "samfilmware" and download the latest build for your version.
Dont think flashing official firmware from there will void your warranty as its official.

Tried flashing the latest stock ROM, same temporary fix like wiping the cache, but after a few hours, goes back to normal. This is with no other apps installed, other than the speedtest app, which I installed after I first identified the problem, so its not an app.
Another thing I noticed is that it went away after I disabled the 5Ghz wifi connection on my router, but it came back. The I tried manual wifi channel instead of auto, same thing. Problem went away, and then came back.
If I change the wifi channel the problem goes away, and then comes back after a few hours.
It seems like wifi settings must have something to do wit it, but I can find a combination which cures it completely.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, this is starting to drive me bonkers:crying:
Try hawkerpaul s GS2Nuke script, if it doesn't work try another wifi (other then the one at your home), if it works with another wifi then reset your router, if it doesn't work try making it without password.
