In the past few ROMs I have had I think past ICS, my front camera has never worked. I can use the back one fine, but when I try to switch to the front one it just crashes and says camera has stopped working. The only way I can then reenter the camera app is to clear data in the settings.
I really want to use my front camera, but I'm not sure if it is from the ROMs or my front camera is actually broken. Can you guys please help me out?
You are going to have to actually do a little bit of reading in order to find the proper files as I am not going to pick back through the entire thread to find the proper links, but my wife has been running this rom for nearly a month.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2637943
There are a couple of patch files linked to inside the thread. There is a flicker patch as well as a camera patch. You will also want to flash uber kernel as well. After flashing the rom and gaps I booted the phone and set everything up for her, went back grabbed the patches and kernel, flashed the kernel and both patches then rebooted. After doing all of that her phone has been running smooth as silk with an occasional manual reboot everything seems to bee working great. Can't attest to the bluetooth stability as she never uses it but the camera works both pics and video front and back.

try vignette for flash.
vignette isn't working. with the MIUI camera the dev's instructions are to switch off full screen due to some glitch that causes no picture. when i load this camera application i receive the same glitch, can not see picture what so ever.
i explored the settings in the app and there is no appropriate selection to be able to switch as i would with the MIUI camera. it seems this app isn't compatible with the rom.
I use the LED light app and just leave the light on while I take a pic >.>...
LED app like Torch? to activate the camera flash like an independent flash light?
Tried Torch, the app crashed. So I uninstalled it. Currently searching the market to see if anything is going to be compatible here. There must be some sort of fix as this flash problem wasnt listed in the dev's build release notes.
I use this https://market.android.com/details?id=jp.picolyl.led_light
even has a widget I put on my desktop... walk around my house at night like this...
i was hoping that would work
but it didn't
app installs. app loads. when i turn on the flash, nothing happens
leads me to assume there has to be a patch, because again, it must be rom related
Vignette seems to work for me. I have it set to auto flash and it comes on when I touch the screen.
Or is the point that you would rather use the miui camera?
Sorry if I misunderstood
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
when i start up Vignette i have absolutely no picture. just distorted colored stripes across the screen.
the miui camera was indicated as being faulty in full screen mode. within the release notes there were instructions to open the settings within MIUI camera and change off of full screen to resolve the picture issue.
as per developers ROM documentation:
Known bugs:
- Phone reboots when you press exit in Root Explorer (not included)
- MIUI camera has messed up screen (fix this by going into miui cam settings and turn off "Full screen"
that issue is the exact same thing that I am experiencing in Vignette. with MIUI camera i was able to make the appropriate change and restore full picture.
with Vignette no option presents itself to enable me to do this. i dont necessarily care which app i use to take pictures as long as i am able to operate the flash and sustain full camera functionality.
both miui camera the stock camera are not functioning with flash for me. i have set to automatic within miui camera and even still the flash fails to initiate.
even if i switch to "ON" within MIUI camera that doesn't work either. the stock camera app has no flash control option in its settings. and so far the third party apps i've tried such as "camera 360" resulted in a message saying my phone doesn't have flash. and Vignette was not resolving picture. i was unable to locate a respective setting similar to that of MIUI camera to initiate a functional view. therefore was forced to uninstall
Attached a temporary solution
Slightly improved brightness over my original: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996973
I'm working on flashlight fix to work with vignette. Hopefully Trip will fix it too in next release
nice thanks. would this apk just manually be pushed through ADB to sytem/apps? or do i have the option to install straight from SD?
im going to go ahead and try this out. thanks again.
side note: is it correct to assume a pending update for this build considering it was released as a "final version" it would be nice to see some fixes implemented to further stability and full functionality.
another issue ive experienced over the past couple days back and forth between this rom is particularly when files are in midst of being transferred to sd card. but not limited to. the phone seems to force reboot. and this does not cease. case in point. i initiated sd mounting and upon hitting confirm, phone went into power cycle.
update: *Torch works perfect. I hit thanks

I have bought the depreciated version and even though it works great on latest MIUI, flash still doesn't work.
so .... like you said .... depreciated?
turns out it doesn't work after all. wonderful
i can understand the picture part working, unlike the demo. but if flash doesn't work. it doesn't turn out to be an all in one solution. flash is the issue here. i can utilize either miui or even stock camera for the pictures. its the flash that is giving complications.

Use the torch app with it
i guess the torch app will suffice. its going to have to because every app ive tried doesn't recognize the flash function. its a smart work around.
i noticed an update pack released for the rom hopefully flash will be noted for a fix sometime in the future. thanks everyone

Hi guys,
I've been searching for a fully stable flashable .zip for the JB 4.2 camera&gallery app with Photosphere. I have tried "4CamNex2.zip" & "4.2Camera_t04.zip" apps. The latter with slightly improved stability, (photosphere, panorama etc. working) however main issue/bug is: in standard photo taking mode, if you tap the screen to focus (or pre focus) and then take the picture, camera and gallery crash - Quite frustrating.
I've wiped cache&dalvik and re-flashed zip etc. (this helped as the first time I flashed the zip, photosphere was not working - solved by clearning cache & re-flashing)
Running:
Liquidsmooth v2.1 - 4.2.2
Siyah kernel 1.9.1
Thanks for any input!
Questions Welcomed also
UPDATE:
The crashing only occurs when the flash comes on. Forcing flash off or when there is enough ambient light you can pre-focus on a spot then take the pic.
I think currently there is no camera stable for 4.2.
I'm very interested in this as well (who wouldn't be?). I wonder if anyone is even working on it, and where we could perhaps track the progress. I don't see anything in the log tracker but I could have missed it.

when Cm10.1 nightly builds reach stable stage youll be able to use this camera with photosphere normally, now its just expérimental..
Sent from my Supercharged V12 Samsung Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk
they never will. CM said it will be stable only if Samsung release the sources, which will not happen
how to i delete this...
you have a completely different device
Dont know why but jb+ camera works perfect on aosp roms. No touch to focus issues, front camera working perfect.Only persisting issue is that sometimes sound on recorded videos is very low. After hundreds of hours testing and trying to reproduce the bug i thing it is related to notifications or sound volume adjusting. For example:when i recieve some notification immediately after booting my phone and then i want to grab some video-recorded sound is too low..... Can someone tell me if its kernel, rom or what? Why touch to focus works perfectly on jb+ camera without samsung exynos4 sources but this bug is still present. I just cant sleep.......

Sorry, wasn't paying attention.
Can anyone provide a download link to the standard jellybean (4.2.+) camera apk/zip?
I did find this camera worked quite well (stock samsung one that is), with the exception of no photosphere (which is only really usefully for showing off to be honest)
Hi All,
Long time reader of the forum, finally registered an account.
I'm having an issue wherein the camera freezes and crashes while taking video in apps. Video works fine while recording using the camera app. I've noticed this while using the messaging app and vine. In vine the video starts recording for about .5 seconds before crashing.
I am rooted and using AOKP JB rom (latest). I would have posted in that forum but I'm not allowed since it's a new account (you guys are serious here). I've searched that forum, found a few related posts but no resolution. I have fully wiped, I have cleared app data. I think its a problem with a ROM or Kernel itself. Actually seems like a buffer issue since the video records briefly before crashing but who knows.
If anyone has had a similar issue maybe with another ROM let me know. thanks.
No one else has had this problem??
If there was another topic let me know, I've searched heavily but maybe I've missed it.
I'm just trying to determine if this is hardware or software (or kernel/ROM).
Can anyone confirm that they are NOT having this issue and let me know what software you're running?
Thanks.
The most reliable test of whether your problem is hardware or firmware related is to flash back to stock and try the video in the stock camera. You can make a nandroid backup and restore it afterwards to get back to where you are now.
On the stock GB ROM the camera works in SMS but malfunctions in some apps.
I just flashed the official JB ROM from samsung and everything works perfectly, so definitely software.
same issue here, for vine, snapchat, instagram.
Similar issue here, with a Samsung Galaxy 2 (SGH-T989D) running JB 4.1.2 with the official JB update, rooted.
Camera will work for 20-30 seconds and then the in-app video preview will freeze and the only way to get the camera to work again is to reboot. There is no zombie Camera process to kill. Fixing permissions doesn't help. Doesn't matter which app tries to access the camera, they all fail.
I've tried the diagnostics test (*#0*#) and have been able to determine that it's only the rear facing camera that fails, the front facing camera always works fine.
I tried various camera firmware versions (using the "Camera Firmware Standard" screen, *#34971539#), currently running version SEEH05. Other versions either didn't work at all or would perform equally poorly.
I thought it might be an SD card problem,
But after removing the external SD card, the camera performed even worse (crashed even faster).
On the other hand the phone is still under warranty from Telus, so I'm considering flashing back the unrooted ROM and returning it for repairs, unless someone can suggest something else to try.
Running PAC ROM (22.0 i think) from the ported development section and have the same issue with the rear camera but the front camera seems to work OK most of the time for Snapchat and such. A while back I tried one of the separate 4.2.2 camera APK's that's floating on this site and had the same issue still.
Has anyone tried the new leaked 4.3 camera to see if that works better/worse?
Not sure if this would work or not, but you could probably try.
Clear out all current videos and pictures on internal sd card(of course after taking backup), wipe/reset and then do a fresh rom install.
About last April, my camera started doing blurry photos because of the shakiness problem. I was sure that something inside was broken, but didn't want the hassle of the exchanging process.
I read the changelog of stock B32 and noticed fixes for the camera. So wiped by custom rom and went back to stock to try it. To my surprise, the camera stopped with the shakiness and started taking good pictures. I tried stock for awhile to make sure that it wasn't just coincidence. I intentionally did intensive processes to let the phone get hot and started the camera to see if it was still working; I did this a bunch of times without problems, including starting the camera in another app (whatsapp). I noticed that the focus sound (the audible notification the phone makes when you touch the screen to focus) and the mechanical clicking noise from the OIS were no longer there.
The problem is that I love my custom setup and I dont like the look of stock. I went back to my regular setup, and to my surprise again, the camera remained fixed. When I switched from stock to my custom setup, I just flashed the following in this order:
1) A2017X B15 Universal Bootloader (thanks Unjustified Dev)
2) AOSP Extended v4.6 (thanks NFound)
3) Radioactive kernel v2.4 (thanks OrdenKrieger)
4) GAPPS micro
5) B32 Camera (thanks lian00)
6) Magisk v14
7) B32 bootstack (thanks DrakenFX)
Everything but slow motion video seems to be working on the Stock B32 camera app in AospEx. I followed the comments from the post below to get the camera working:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/themes/zte-camera-flashable-zip-t3553638/page26
I'm still testing, but everything looks good so far after a week. if you have the shakiness try it before sending it for repairs, it might work for you too. Also, I have the benefit of not having the annoying focusing sounds.
Note: I have the A2017U since October 2016.
Update: #1 - I have been able to unlock the bootloader and reinstall MIUI. Unfortunately, neither of these procedures managed to fix the camera. I've also installed TWRP and wiped everything I possibly could, and yet, still no functionality from the camera. This is weird because I literally had no problems prior to trying out GCam.
I've had my Pocophone for about a year now. I really enjoy using it for pictures and videos. After seeing all the hype around the GCam port, I decided to try it for myself. After I installed an APK, I took a few pictures and all was working well. After a few hours, I opened the GCam app once more to take a new photo, and after which, it froze. I then tried the Stock Camera, and that also froze. I restarted my phone, and then opened both apps, and the camera refused to open.
I've tried the CID test, and it works until it gets to "Rear Dual Camera". The "Rear Sub Camera" does work, however, as does the front camera.
I've also performed a factory reset, but this has also rendered the camera unusable. Interestingly enough, after I restart the phone and open the camera app, it DOES work, but as soon as I shift to portrait mode, it then freezes and refuses to work again.
I really don't know what the GCam apk did.
Have u tried flashing the ROM again?.. This might help

No, I haven't. I've never flashed anything onto my Pocophone. It's completely stocked. I've been doing research on how to unlock the bootloader to try this method, however, I've made no progress with getting the bootloader to unlock. In the meantime, I've been trying other ways to fix it.
One version of Gcam is currently launching the camera, however, the stock app keeps freezing. This other version of Gcam also takes several seconds to switch between the front and rear cameras, so this I know it still isn't fixed properly.
Did you tried to flash a stock rom using fastboot method?
