Try using CyanogenMod 11, SlimKat, OmniRom, Cyanfox, BeeanStalk, or any other KitKat based ROM just to make sure whether Resurrection Remix was causing the weird problem. If using a new ROM didn't solve your issue and you feel that the menu button is damaged, simply use a rom which supports a Navigation Bar to replace your hardware Navigation buttons. Good luck pal

are you sure ypu are not long pressing the button ? check you settings under buttons if you have by mistake set any custom actions for your buttons .. all the best and happy flashing

Forget about software tweaks that replace the physical buttons, These virtual buttons are only ever going to be any use as a backup for physical buttons...and then ONLY if you have a fully functional phone......
Get the button replaced......
If you end up in a bootloop, you'll need to access recovery or download to sort it out......a "virtual" button ain't gonna help at that point............

Are we talking about the touchscreen menu button or the physical home button?

Looks like this time I read it wrong.....
I think he's on about the capacitive touch button on the bottom left of the phone......NOT needed for recovery or download modes......

Remapping power key because it is broken.

My device's power button is broken. I'm able to get it powered on and onto the homescreen. The problem is I cannot unlock my screen unless I plug it in. I want to remap my volume up+volume down keys to "power" or "unlock screen". My device is rooted.
How can I accomplish this? Thank you.
Also, does anyone know why my power button would randomly stop working? I didn't install any new software. And it doesn't seem physically broken.

Update:
The keymap file for Cyanogen is in /system/usr/keylayout/qwerty.kl. I'm using root explorer and text editor to view it. Apparently WAKE_DROPPED means wake up the screen and WAKE means do not. I changed volume down to WAKE_DROPPED and rebooted but it didn't do anything.
First, keep it to one thread. Second, there's an option under 'Settings -> Display' to wake the screen with the volume rocker. As for the Power button failing, I'd say warranty or if you're feeling handy, there's the DIY option. idk where you'd find parts though.

Thanks a lot. The problem was I'm not able to wake my screen. Thanks so much! About the DIY: nothing feels physically broken. I'd probably end up replacing a ton of parts to no avail.
edit: is it possible that any type of software could change this? I'm not an expert on this stuff. Could it possibly be caused by the Kernal or something?
note: I've recently updated to cyanogenmod jelly bean. 4.1.1. My power was broken before that, i was actually upgrading to see if it would remedy the problem.
edit: it seems that the screen doesn't wake when using the volume rocker after a certain period of inactivity. like 1 minute.

If you run Ktoonsez Siyah 4.3.3 kernel there is a swipe to wake option in extweaks - no need for power key to wake screen.

Is that kernal compatible with cyanogenmod 4.1.1? How can I find out things like this?
Also, How can i circumvent my broken power button in CWM? I can't select any options.

4.2 On-screen Nav Issue's

This question is for those of you that enable the on screen nav buttons on the 4.2 builds. Does anyone have issue's with the back button not working, or requiring you to hit the button sometimes numerous times to get it to work? I believe the only 4.2 ROM that doesn't have this issue for me is Paranoid Android. Cant figure out why, and it drives me nuts because I HATE the hardware buttons. Thanks for any input...

I had this problem when i was on an ICS rom on my vzw G-nexus. I just had to continue to wipe data and reflash again. i think it took 2-3 times on CWM recovery.

[Q] Phone freezes up and screen stays black when pressing lock button twice quickly

Every time I press the lock button twice quickly when the screen is off it gets locked up. I do this on accident sometimes. Is this always going to be a problem or can it be fixed?
Which button are you referring to? Do you have SGH-I777?
Yes I have the SGH i777 and I am talking about the power button.

That would be abnormal behavior for the power button. When the screen is off, pressing the button once or twice quickly should make no difference. The screen should come on in either case.
What firmware do you have on the phone? Unless the power button is somehow programmed to recognize a double press somewhere in the firmware, then it is possibly a failing button.

Thank you for helping me. I am running the stable build of Cyanogenmod 10.1 (4.2.2) directly from their website. However, I do not quite believe that my power button is failing. It works fine when i click it once. Is there a way to know if its just a software problem vs a hardware problem? Thanks

Yes, of course. Just flash back to stock and see if the problem persists. I would suggest you try 4.1.2 UCMD8, but it really doesn't matter which version. If the problem goes away, then the issue is in firmware. You should be able to make a nandroid backup of your current configuration, and restore it after you finish the test. (I assume you would understand the necessary steps.)

Waking Up HOX+ with the Volume Rocker.

Hello All,
My HOX+ 's Power button is not working properly .. it takes a thousand taps to wake the beast. I This phone is running a STOCK unrooted ROM,
I was wandering is there a way to wake it up using the Volume Rocker.. More over any ideas on what might have made the power button unresponsive? or is there a cure to that ?
Please Help
What about apps "tap to unlock"?
I think your best option might be to root your phone and install a custom rom. InsertCoin 5.0-6 is an excellent stable rom that supports sweep to wake and volume rocker to wake.
Best of luck.
