So I got root thanks to letama. Is that all you can do with this tablet? I was looking to flash something based off of Cyanogenmod, but it looks like none of the versions I could find support it. Tried following the CYANOBIZ CM9 tutorial, but when it comes to flashing the zImage and initramfs.cpio.gz it asks for initramfs.cpio.lzo instead. Does CYANOBIZ CM9 not support my tablet?

Afternoon all...
Apologies if this question has been asked. I've been searching but getting myself confused with all the info.
I downloaded cifsmanager from market place and tried to run it. I found that it wasn't working. After a little reading, I was told I need the cifs.ko module.
I downloaded what I thought was the correct module, made sure that within cifsmanager, I had the correct path and it still doesn't work.
I've read on few threads that this will not work on the stock kernel and that pershoot's kernel will do the job.
I found a link to pershoot's kernels http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/ but now confused as to which one I could use.
I have a 16gb WiFi and 3g model, do I use this kernel?
"10.1 3G, Touchwiz UX (HC 3.2 (stock); GT-P7500):
boot-cm_2636.4_p4_ux_hc32-oc-xtra-vfpv3-d16_fp-121111.zip:"
I've extracted the cifs.ko from lib-2636.4_ux_hc32.tar.gz - the droidbasement.com website says to push the module I desire to /data/local/modules
Where do I push it to, the kernel zip file?
Thanks in advanced....
Noob alert!
From what I heard is that CyanogenMod is one of the best ROMs, that was why I was thinking on installing it.
It is also based on the AOSP which makes the code cleaner with less bloatware I guess.
The problem is that I checked the nightly build known issues FAQ and there is no TV out or encryption, nor BLN, which are all very cool features to me.
1) Can you guys recommend me any other ROMs to look into? (that is CF-root CWM friendly)
2) What other advantages are there to the ROM being forked from AOSP?
3) I have recently used CF-root and have kernel [email protected] #2
Is there any problem in using kTool to flash to a 3.x kernel? Do I need to do anything first?
Thank you for the help.
Hello.
So, if there's no way to give ICS to GSmart G1317D, I found this tutorial about porting roms:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625862
My question is, if I followed this tutorial using original ROM as source of those files and CM7 (for Galaxy Mini) as a destinate ROM, is there any chance to work? Nothing more has been done with it, only what's written in this tutorial (excluding boot.img replacing).
Does anyone have or at least know where to find a cifs.ko that will work with the new android 4.0.4, the kernel version is 3.1.10 SEP-91 #1.
The upgrade was pushed to device over the air last night and of course broken the working module i had install.
Thanks,
Core
I will appreciate any hint as well
I'm searching for this as well, tried all the solutions and workaround found on xda and elsewhere, but no luck. Hopefully somebody will make modified kernel that has CIFS support soon for stock ics.
any news on this?
Hello friends.
I have bought Acer Iconia Tab a701. I rooted it and installed CWM Recovery. But i couldn't find good Room, actually any Roms, except AOKP by Odiv. But it not free and i am not going to pay without checking that. And it have some troubles as i know. Vital for me.
I found Great AOKP with Rootbox and ParanoidAndroid features by Shreps. But it is only for Acer Iconia a700. Every properties of a701 and a700 is similar, except lack of GSM\3g modem in last one. I tried it and it works on my tab, except modem of course.
I have CM by Odiv(Lite version). 3g there works well. So update.zip is totally available. I want to take necessary firmware files from a701's CM and put it into a700's AOKP. What i have to copy? Who can help me? Who had same issue?
