I don't seem to ever see any satellites.
I was wondering if there is possibly a setting I could have wrong or if I have to assume there is a hardware problem with the watch. Any advice welcome. I saw Loki's post on speeding up GPS lock but since I never see any satellites, I don't think that has any help. Unfortunately, I don't know how to read the Engineering Location pages. But I'd be happy to pull screenshots or anything in exchange for help.
Thanks

Have you tryed getting a GPS lock with a DatA connection. I was having an issue also but once I tried GPS while connected to wifi the watch received the GPS data it needed quickly. Once that happen my GPS was fine. I used GPS status from the PS. To track the sat.

Tried with and without data. With and without airplane mode. I tried following Loki's guide. But no matter how long I'm outside with clear view of sky, no matter which app I use, I never see a single satellite. I'm beginning to think the antenna might not be connected inside the watch.

I'm in the same situation as you. One day, the GPS stopped working, until today. I have tried 'GPS fix' and similar apps from Google Play, but none of them seem to work. As you, I think this is a hardware problem, but I don´t know how to check or fix it.

Others have experienced this. it is a bad connection with the ant. or the connection is broken off in the strap. It seems that everyday there are more and more issues.
I checked the antenna connector inside the watch. Popped it off and felt it click back on, but still no luck.
Found the problem. It looks as though the GPS antenna connector cannot be touching the metal shield of the component right next to it. Of course, the wire comes out of the band directly over this piece and folds over it to reach the connector. Currently I'm insulating it with a torn off piece of paper. If it happens again, I'll try some kind of tape.
The brass metal plug was touching the side of the round black component (vibration motor) ?
I suggested this might be the problem to others with poor wifi and BT reception, but word that came back was that there was no contact. That plug can rotate over to touch the metal !

You're lucky I don't feel like working today. But I take no responsibility if you break your watch more than it was or in entirely new and different ways.
Open the watch. 4 screws.
Lift out the battery
Take out the plastic spacer. 2 screws (Red). Yes, I lost one.
The charger connector lifts straight up and off (Blue). Also, there is some glue or something that holds it in the upper right quadrant of the picture. And the sticker in the bottom right sticks to electrical components on the board below. I believe it may be made to tear if you lift this spacer out but mine didn't.
Here is the guts of the watch.
Zoom in on the bottom left quadrant showing metal of antenna connector touching... something else metal.
I just put a bit of label on the metal something to prevent touching.
Good luck!

Thank you very much! :good: I will try it.
Regrettably, it didn´t work for me. The Truesmart still doesn´t detect any satellite. :crying: But tomorrow I will try again.
Anyway, thank you very much for your help. And I´m sure your photos will help many people who have this issue.
The connector on the cable may also be damaged. I have two with bad connectors, one came off and one is pulled just far enough that the cable does not make contact to the internal points in the connector.
I reopened the watch and try the jdommer´s solution, but the result is the same.
I also have disconnected the antenna cable and I have reconnected several times, but it still doesn´t detect any satellites.
However, the watch has a curious behavior. It doesn´t detect any satellites at any time. However, if I let Sygic working, after 5 or 6 minutes, it detects the place where I am, even though undetected satellites (so I can´t use it to navigate or sports tracking).
That might be from WiFi or cell tower location, not GPS.

I have same problem. 2 months GPS worked good, but now it dosn't work.
This app solved my problem: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chartcross.gpstest
I was getting 9 satellites but no fix.
What I did after installing the app:
1. Settings>>Datum and I chosed the one located closest to my country
2. Settings>> Clear AGPS
3. Settings>> Update AGPS
4. Got a fix with 5 satellites after 10 seconds from my window. For comparison my Note 8 got a fix in only 2 seconds but it's antenna is a few times bigger than the one Omate has
Followed jdommer's picture guide using a small piece of paper to insulate the wire and my gps works again! Thanks

Same here. Location Scandinavia
I get the same on my SGS2.
ALSO i think related to this is that i am getting no little blue circle on google maps showing the error.. is everyone else seeing this or do some of us just have defective phones/software..
strangely enough the accuracy eventually goes down. even after the long lock time and the navigation is fine.. all the way to work now tested with aura and google maps and not a narry wrong info..
Yes its not good just check out this video of the SGS Vs SGSII in GPS and it fails!!!
Real bad..I hope there is a fix for this. But this is the second time now!!! Samsung jsut don;t learn. The Omnia HD i8910 has amazing gps this is not acceptable!
I really don't seem to have any issues with my GPS accuracy, it locks my position quickly and has fairly good accuracy, heck it performs better indoors than my Milestone did.
I must have a faulty GPS sensor then? Time to post the phone back
Edit: look at my SGS Vs my SGSII . No vop or dvop data on the SGS2
I've been out Geocaching with my milestone and SGS2 side by side and there is no difference in the distances on the radar.....
I took a drive from south ready london to west without a hiccup. app or firmware specific? mine is ....D

This test must not be done because the electromagnetic field of internal oscilators make interference with the other. If you put the galaxy's far each other you will get better results and similar. I made exactly the same test about 50cm distance between the two and got good results.

what the video didnt show you!
did you check all THREE?
check on "use wireless network", check on "use gps satellites", check on "use sensor aiding"
i tested gps driving 60 miles, gps locks on quick, never lose gps signals or give me wrong turns.
tested gps from work to home, gps locks on quick, never lose gps signals or give wrong turns.
sat in my house just on gps it takes 15/20 secs to lock on....but then again my phone signal is very poor in the house, and when I am in the city its about 5 ses and works 100%

Yes all three location options were ticketed. It never got a signal otherwise the video would have been 5 minutes long or more. It was random but now all is well after a reboot. I think we are relying to much on GPS Test. It may not support the GPS chipset in the SGS2 100%. GPS Status seems better..
I found that when I was moving in the car it was more accurate. Infact down to 4m. It sat at around 4-10m the whole trip with 8-10 sats. I couldn't have asked for better.
Oh and here is my proof:

However it depends on frequencies and harmonics that GPS phones switch/create in that moment.
There is no perfect shield. Do you want a proof? Go with your phone inside a compartment in a metallic ship and then it's possible to call you from another city. I'm sure because I made this test.
I assure you that in my SGS1 and my SGS2, GPS doesn't work well if they are close each other.
OK, but what about the dop and vdop calculations on the gps status application?
I would say the app doesn't support read that info yet..
i dont think that is it try google maps there will be no little blue circle meaning i believe that the phone is not providing that info..
Strangely enough, but mine provides the blue circle in g maps, and no data in the dop and vdop calculations on the gps status application.

has something to do with the voltage of the charger my epic 4g touch did the same thing with the wall adapter it came with started using a different charger from my old phone and problem went away...... I would be curious if all stock wall chargers for the prime do it or just some?

I think it has something to do with the backplate tingling/improper grounding,
throwing some static at the touchscreen grid making it think its being touched elsewhere.
See howfar off the touch dot is at various places on your screen.
You should be able to figure out a trajectory to where it is making "contact".

Exactly, try turning around your charger (so turn it by 180°)
I had something similar happen on my DInc when I plugged it into the wall and car inverter using my brothers Motorola cable and charger. The phone will just go wonky with the touchscreen. As soon as I unplug it everything would be copacetic. Try another charger and or cable.
So i wonder if its more likely that my prime isnt the problem and my charger or home wiring is wonky
I noticed this yesterday where I could not close browser tabs. Eventually I got the tab to close, and thought this was just some dust on the screen or something.
I have not had any issues before and use it a lot while charging (its technically my wife's so she gets to run the battery down and I get it after since I sit close to a outlet), and I was not having issues at all until the last firmware update (not that it is necessarily related).
I will try and run some more tests this evening and see if I can produce. I would think if this was a hardware issue I would have run into it sooner.
Did anyone have this issue prior to any of the latest firmware updates?

I'm honestly not sure. Prior to my device arriving yesterday, I found out about the newly released root method for the latest OTA so I upgraded as soon as I turned on the device. I do not have a benchmark for comparison.
I will be trying to invert my charger and I will also be trying a different location across town to see if maybe my electrical wiring in my home is causing voltage noise/grounding issues.
I have a solution:
Code:
if (Device.isCharging) { Screen.Touch.setOffset(-5,-10) }
done...

You should get some satellites if you turn the device around. Right now the metal back possibly blocks all potential signals. Aluminum back cuts down about 50% of GPS signal performance compared to smartphone like Galaxy Nexus (which also does not have ideal GPS, though does work).

Good idea and thanks - I tried this, flat, next to a window and left for an hour. Still nothing How can an OTA update that claims to fix GPS break it?! Lol!
Yeah, I got the same - absolutely nothing despite over an hour face up completely flat.
My phone (Dell Streak) gets locks immediately in the same place.
The only way I've managed to "see" a single satellite on my Prime is after BT tethering to my Streak!
Very disappointing, not that it's crucial to have GPS, but there's a principle involved here.

Couldn't agree more. I had mine picking up sats in my car with Honeycomb...then ICS came along (second ICS OTA) and decided to take it away from me. Disappointed. Now, where's that Mr.Gary Key? Ha!
Ditto - this last update killed my previously acceptable GPS performance. Mine will see as many as 8 birds with decent SNR, but will not lock on any of them.

Ooops I should have multiquoted! Anyway, clearly it's happened quite a lot....gutted.....
Wow guys, this sounds really bad. I thought that the flaw is simply that the signal is weaker by half (as it is on my tests), but apparently it doesn't get any locks at all for some of you.
This is definitely not a metal casing problem, GPS antennae seems messed up. GPS, by design, should get some locks after just a few minutes, no more than 10 or 15 minutes.
All of my tests show the flaw of metal casing weakening the GPS signal, but it still finds satellites (though cannot be used for navi as a result) without WiFi.
Try going to some open space and hold the tablet skyward and see if there's any change. Indoors is not an ideal testing condition (depends on where you live), because it still might be the metal-back issue.
It not purely a hardware issue though as my GPS was on par with my cellphone before this last update.
I am also getting no gps lock in gps test since the last update. I got my prime to lock onto about 15 satellites prior to the update driving in my car(its a convertible) Now I can't get it to see a single one, let alone get a lock. I love my prime, but this is a real bummer.
I agree....if this was a pure hardware related issue, then it wouldn't have worked before then suddenly stopped working post drivers/software update. This clearly highlights that there is a software related issue going on. Obviously the aluminium backplate still reduces from the overall signal quality but it don't completely prevent it from working. If this was the case, no one would get a lock ever, on any unit!
Your move Asus...
Likewise. Signal before update. No sats found following update.
Same problem here. I did not originally have an advanced GPS app or anything, but services were able to locate me in GPS (when Wifi and location via Wifi turned off). Since the update, I get nothing. I download several apps to test GPS and all are the same: No Sats.
I don't really use GPS all that much, but I tested this before installing the update and the update did definitely break it for me.
Seems like the update was 50/50. Either it makes everything brilliant or just takes it away!! How do we approach this best? We can all contact ASUS individually but that never seems to work. I wonder if Gary Key accepts PM's?

LOL, I couldn't resist.
Sometime ago after purchasing a new W100 (THL),
I started having the "can't connect to the camera" message.
It has been debated widely over the different forums, and was always associated to ROM, software, permissions issues and such.
First, I'd like to say that this phone is fantastic value for money.
The other day, after trying numerous roms, and permission fixes, and with no luck,
I was playing with the charger cable (while connected), while the camera app was working.
I noticed that fidgeting around with the cable had influence on the app, freezing it at times, making the camera input flicker etc.
I knew right then, this was a connector issue, hardware, rather then something else.
I immediately decided to abandon the "warranty" procedure and take it apart to find the problem.
There is a little rectangular sponge which was right above the connector, but apparently was not pressing it enough,
so I attached 3-4 little squares of thin cardboard (really thin), in the same size of the sponge.
Re-assembled the phone, and voila!, works like a charm ever since!
I will post some photos later, if someone wishes, but the phone has been working for some time now, with no problems what so ever.
So that's it,
the mysterious "can't connect" issue, SOLVED,
at least for me, and to another phone I had ordered which had the same problem (also THL w100).
Gideon.
cool!
I had a similar problem with my thl w200. I google and tried numerous ways to solve the problem.
But none work. I experienced the same thing like you when I put on the charging cable.
I believe we had similar problem... It would be nice if you can post some pics on how to fix the connector.
Thanks a lot.

now, both the little thin cardboard pieces and
the sponge which should be pressing enough on the connector:
pieces applied with a little snippet of clear duct tape:

Hi Gideon,
Brilliant. Thanks for the pics.
How did you figure that its loose connector?
if I open up my phone, I would guess it's some motherboard issue.
Thanks a lot. I am looking forward to fixing my camera

Thanks.
Well, the first time I took it apart, I just took the connector out, and firmly in again,
but that didn't "fly" fully, still did problems related to touch/pressure (on the area), so I just decided to thicken that place a bit.
Just be careful with the entire procedure, it's not difficult (far from it), but still,
would be a shame to fook something else
Hello, I'm Italian, sorry for my English is not good.
I have thl w100 and I have the same problem of the camera. My rom is 130912.
I change rom (also cusotm rom), wipe & reset.... nothing I still have the problem.
I tried your solution with the paper under the frame but nothing: "can't connect to the camera"
I have observed the operation of the camera and I have an idea
I have observed that works depending on the battery
I recharged the phone twice using a power bank and the camera is back to work for several days.
Then the last charge came only 99% and returned error.
The error disappears if you restart the phone and the screen does not open before 5/10 minutes.
Then once you open the camera and it works.
Has anyone observed the same things?

Hi Paolorata,
Your English is all right. I understand what you wrote.
I don't think it has anything to do with the battery.
My camera did work even when it is not fully charged.
Maybe when you charge your battery, your charging cable tweak the connector and the camera works.
I thought I shared my experience in fixing my THL W200.
In the first picture, I removed all the screws and start plying open the casing.
It's tough to ply open the casing. A combination of flat head screw driver and finger nail.
The plastic edges were damaged in the process by the screw driver.
In the second picture, you will see my camera connector.
In the third picture, I cut a small slab from those 3M stick-on-wall sticker and paste it on my casing.
It's quite thick. I mount my casing back. I tested the camera with the casing half mounted.
I wanted to make sure it worked before I mount the casing fully back.
The removing of the casing was quite troublesome.
You also see the power and volume button in the picture.
My observation so far.
The casing is slightly arched like what Gideon has mentioned. The camera works without failure.
But when I put back my sim card, my camera works on and off. Most of the time it works.
I believe it's because the contact point of the sim card is on the motherboard while the end of sim card is on the plastic casing.
This possibly creates a small gap between my sticker and the camera connector.
Possible solution.
Cut my sim card or cut the plastic casing.
Thanks for answers.
I tried to move the usb connection: the first time it work , the second is not.
The only method by which I can run the camera:
1) restart the phone,
2) wait at least 10 minutes without touching it
3) then open the camera.
9 times out of 10 it works. It is also confirmed by some androidiani.it users.
can you try it and let me know?

If by playing around with the USB connection it works, then I would presume you have the same problem as me...,
and the connector is is troublesome.

So that's it,
the mysterious "can't connect" issue, SOLVED,
at least for me, and to another phone I had ordered which had the same problem (also THL w100).

hey
did u just try to push it down and reassemble again?
or did u put something extra there like i did?
cause at first i just tried to take it out and push back in, but wasn't working good still...
it was only after i put some extra thickness between the connector and back cover was it working 100%.
Tank you so much, for fix the camera for my w100. I folow this steps and fix my phone

I saw some pictures of the Amazfit watches that had been teardown.
I tried to do it, but the watch is glued and fitted hard, so I couldn't open it even with a heater.
Therefore I started this thread to ask for help, for me and people who need opening the watch because of battery drain issues or ...
And secondly, asking developers: is it possible to disable the watch's microphone by software operations, so that it stop using battery?
Thanks in advance
Sadegh
In the following I gathered all posts about opening the watch. I hope they help.
Unfortunately they did not said how exactly they opened the watch without damage.

Hi Guys,
lot of users complain on draining battery by Amazfit Pace ... but no one check hardware. Today I opened my watch and I found probably root cause of problem. Reset hole is not enough tight and semiconductors (rest switch and probably pressure sensor) are totally corroded as on photo.

And this is the damage after I tried to open it.
I afraid to continue and totally break it.
if you warm the smartwatch well with the hair dryer the glue becomes soft and the device opens easily not damaging anything, to glue again you should have indicated glue to be appropriately isolated and later take off again if necessary.
I open my with cuter and help with hair dresser...simple..
Thanks for your answers my friend
I'll try to open again.
And can somebody, a developer or ... help us to disable the microphone by software operations?
If this be possible I think it stop battery drain problem.

The problem isn't the mic, it's not active all the time... The problem is most probably due to a corroded barometer, that it will drain energy either being active or not. The only solution it to remove or replace the whole module.

But what if the barometer be disabled? could it stop battery draining? or is it possible to disable it buy software or ROM measurement?

I used a better hair dryer and warmed it up.
That worked thank you and all friends who helped.
Now I have opened it and have this on the image:
how to reach the mic and barometer? and how to cut them?
and is it possible to only remove the barometer?
Thanks again
Here is the pic:
Ok I found it
there is no need to open the screws just insert some sharp thing like a needle in the hole of mic and take it out slowly.
Now I removed the mic and barometer, I am testing the battery life.
I hope it back to normal 5 good days
It seems removing mic and barometer worked.
In airplane mode, after 24 hour the battery from 98% is now 92%.
only 6 percent a day.
I removed the barometer from the board and now only the mic is on it.
Then I inserted the board again to the watch.
The battery is OK.
The mic is working. so I only lost the barometer.
Thats very satisfying .
mine still 86% after 24 hours, maybe i will try open the watch, hope someone can make a tutorial video how to remove mic and barometer
Sadegh, do u glue back the watch to retain at least waterproofing this watch ?

Your battery seems OK.
But anyway after opening the watch
The only problem of battery draining is barometer that fortunately can be removed
you easily can take out the mic and barometer.
Then remove the barometer from the board and turn back the mic to the watch.
your mic works again and the battery will be OK hopefully.

also, when you glued back the watch, what kind of glue did you use?
