Want to port your own TWRP Theme?
So, if you don't know then I will share it here and inform the masses who read this .
I wrote two scripts, TWRPUI and TWRPIMAGE, that will port a TWRP theme from one resolution to another. I'm continuously looking for ways to improve it but for now it works VERY good.
It is best to grab a TWRP theme which is based on a higher resolution and port it to your lower resolution and for good reasons too. Enlarging the theme from a small resolution to a larger resolution could cause wear and tear on the theme by making it not appear as crisp and clean as it should.
Anyways, I will keep it short, but please note that GraphicsMagick is required in order to use TWRPIMAGE. I have compiled it for ARM devices and it can be found in my repo called, gm.
In addition, both scripts require the use of busybox.
Feel free to play around with it and if you come up with an idea for either of the scripts please feel free to share your insights with me.
Remember, the only stupid question or idea is the one which is not shared or expressed .
https://github.com/ModdingMyMind/TWRP_IMAGE_PORTER
A. To use the TWRP Theme:
You must go to /sdcard/TWRP on your device and create another folder named, theme.
Then take the zip and rename it to ui.zip.
Place the ui.zip inside of the theme folder.
Reboot in to your custom recovery and enjoy.
If you wish to not use it anymore, then just delete the zip file.
If you enjoy these themes, then a simple click on the thanks button will suffice. Please be sure to go and give thanks to the original author as well.
Credit goes to @z31s1g for the following themes. He has these available across many forums for many devices with close to or similar resolutions. You can check out his signature for further details. You can get a glimpse of his work here. The shared thread link for his themes are used as my base for porting them over from 720x1280 to 480x800.

Once I finish Light and XDA, there will be an update to all of them. The update will be specific to TWRP 2.7 due to new features that the TWRP offers within the ramdisk. Also added options and a different feel to them as well, thanks to z31s1g's hard work.

We don't have TWRP 2.7 yet, only TWRP 2.6.3.0 which is working for some people and 2.5.0.0 which is working for most people. So it would be great if the themes are compatible with that older versions as well.

Yeah, but those are unstable, built from an old abandoned tree.
Well, regardless of yalls current twrp issues, I plan to still share it, and when the time is ready, yall will be able to use them . Maybe, @xpirt, could take a closer look at the "abandoned tree"?
Sent from my C525c using Tapatalk
He's right:
- TeamWin's used tree: https://github.com/TeamWin/android_device_htc_protou/commits/master
- neXusPrime's updated tree: https://github.com/ProtoU/device_protou_recovery/commits/twrp2.7
There are some new fixes, cleanup and updates made. @neXus PRIME or others should tell TeamWin to update the tree to get latest version of TWRP.

@dansou901, I'm curious to know exactly what kind of issues the latest TWRP has, if you can recall any of them?

I don't know much about those recovery but for example, I can see the recovery.fstab inside those recovery (e.g 2.5.0.0 & 2.7.0.1) is for ICS not JB.
As most of us are on JB, those recovery is no use for people with JB ROM.
2.7.0.1, ADB in recovery doesn't work .. even though it is easy to fix that, but I believe there are more issues other than wrong mountpoint and ADB.

Yea, I was looking at both githubs that xpirt shared in his previous post. Any reason why those mount points were erroneous and or if correct at that time, then changed later? Been reviewing the commits and scratching my head asking myself, "why do that", lol.

Were there changes made to yalls partitions and such when upgraded? I'm more in less just curious
The themes that I will be providing in the future which work mainly off of TWRP 2.7 should also work on 2.6 and 2.5, however, there will be missing features that will only be applicable for 2.7 and so therefore any previous versions won't exactly be able to use nor have the full experience. The current themes I am porting will work for you guys though without any issues and the updates I will be providing shall be kept separate within the OP and attachments. Whoever is yalls current/active recovery developer - contact him or her and have that person reach out to teamwin. Hopefully this can be resolved :-/. If I had this device I would assist but unfortunately, I do not.

Future ports are on hold right now. Currently putting themes on to my github so I can keep track of changes. The main hold up was due to me tracking down apps to use on my device so I may be able to work on these when not by my pc - which I finally found two of them. This will also allow me to make branches so I can leave the master project alone and if working properly then merge the branches later on. This will be extremey useful so I don't have to keep making backups upon backups on my pc which can be tedious and hard to keep track of.
Also, this will allow me to commit any changes so I may provide it here to the public to review for ease and comfort that those who do use the themes can know that such changes have been made, and as well, know that solutions to problems are being implemented.
With that said, I will be adding the current themes I have shared on this thread to my github and once everything is good, I will continue my work on porting these themes. I just need time to set up my "work station". Thanks and enjoy.

Thanks for porting this, though. I can now use this theme on 3 out of 4 of my devices

Sorry, been busy with working on some binaries, building a vrTheme, and also starting on a launcher APK theme.
I haven't abandoned this project, just got to fit it in to my free time lol.
Also, these themes will work just as long as your device resolution is 480x800. As for the curtain image. That is found within the actual TWRP recovery itself. Has nothing to do with the ui. In order to change the curtain you will need to unpack the ramdisk within your TWRP recovery and then replace the curtain. Afterwards, repack the TWRP recovery and flash to your recovery partition.

If anyone notices anything off with these themes please speak up about it so I can fix it really quick. I only have two eyes with a busy schedule .

I was just hoping you could port one for this resolution. I'll replace it in my Omni/TWRP repo so I have it going forward . If not, that's fine, but I figured I'd ask. If you need a copy of the jpg I can upload it for you.

Well with a locked boot loader any "custom" ROM are all going to be about the same. Since we cant overclock, or upgrade past 2.3.3 yet. They are all just tweaked a little differently, like my ROM in comparison to COLA, has only a few minor differences... IT-ROM has the camera mod built in, has toggles built in to the theme, carrier name removed, and a few other cosmetic changes.... the next update will have tweaks built into the build.prop, adds a green dialer theme, and replaces font with stock font. This is my first attempt at playing with roms. It was more of a learning tool for me to get the basics down for removing system app, replacing system app, and what not.

Hey thats awesome info! I was wanting to do something like that but wasnt sure how to make a update.zip, and really didnt want peope to have to reflash the entire ROM again, i know how frustrating it is to have to re-do all your desktops, and widgets, and re-enter al your accounts and sync info.
Would you mind PM'ing me, or post it here, on how to make the symlinks, i am 100% unfamiliar with doing that. (im still learning all of this) Even if it doesnt work with the COLA based ROM, i'd stil like to learn this for future projects, and well, just cause its something I dont know how to do, and I ike to learn.

I know a little bit too, don't worry. You need to keep the Setup Wizard APK which, if absent, breaks the Home button in case of a data wipe. Plus, even if you put a /data folder, it can be empty.
XIT, I think the best that you can do for the symlinks is to grab another ROM (from the Play if possible), unzip it and check its symlinks. I'm not too sure of what symlinks your ROM needs. You can see the symlinks in the update script file in the Meta-Inf folder.

wont work.
locked bootloader cant flash a whole filesystem and datasystem
thats why UK rom has to be flashed as nandroid
1-2 files with the wifimodules work because your just pushing something
but when you try to
format /system
push /system
format /data
push /data
it basicly is going to wipe out CWM recovery in the process because if ur aware the CWM resides in system folder
so yes it wont work for locked bootloader
also I wouldn't keep setup wizard because it is a costly file to keep when it's never needed
the cost is about 1.2 mb not including data if i remember correctly.
so its gone.
when you use nandroid backup you dont need it anyway
I think you're right, I forgot about where the cwm was.

ya i know because i've tried it myself
i created update .zip and the CWM would always return error
i could never get it to work as many times as i tried
I like it, very nice. Plenty of space, apps and drawer loads faster. I implamented the "adb shell, pm setInstallLocation 2, exit". That way I can choose pretty much any app to be moved to sd or installed to sd. Stable rom so far today, no issues.

Project Open Cannibal presents...
Cannibal Open Touch v2.1 for Asus Nexus 7
About Cannibal Open Touch:
Cannibal Open Touch is the next generation of custom recoveries. Jam-packed with cool and useful features, it can handle just about anything you can throw at it.
Main Features:
1. Theme support
2. Touch screen button controls!
3. GooManager support!
4. Advanced Backup
5. Delete old backups!
6. Persistent settings
7. User-defined backup locations!
8. ADB Sideload
9. Touchscreen calibration
Why the name Cannibal Open Touch?
Because we can. The name also embodies everything that Cannibal Open Touch is. It is no longer just a variant of ClockworkMod Recovery, it is it's own recovery by itself. Combining features from ClockworkMod 5, Team UtterChaos' Sony Xperia recovery, AmonRa 3.0.6, Xionia CWMA and a heaping helping of our own special enhancements it is truly revolutionary.
What to do when an error occurs:
DO NOT simply say "xxxx doesn't work" as that is highly unhelpful and will probably be ignored. Instead, post the recovery log! To grab a log when an error occurs, simply open a terminal (or command prompt if on Windows), "cd" to an easily accessible directory and execute:
Code:
adb pull /tmp/recovery.log
Paste the log as an attachment (don't paste the text inside, as it can be quite lengthy), or paste it on pastebin.com.
WARNING!
If you are upgrading from a previous version of Cannibal Open Touch you must delete the settings.ini file located in the cotrecovery folder on your sdcard!
The Cannibal Open Touch App for Android (separate from this recovery image, which is fully functional on all devices) is *NOT* functional on Nexus 7 devices running Android 4.2 or later. A fix is being investigated.
Flashing instructions:
1. Download the Cannibal Open Touch recovery image.
2. Reboot your device to bootloader mode (adb reboot bootloader)
3. Flash the image with fastboot (fastboot flash recovery /path/to/recovery.img)
4. Reboot to recovery mode
5. PROFIT!

Yeah Drew (the other dev on the project) wrote in that warning there; it's referring to the Android control application that he did. Allows you to easily change the persistent settings from within android instead of recovery (including but not limited to the user defined backup paths). The recovery does work in 4.2, the app does not.
To set user defined backups you could use the app in 4.1 or older than upgrade the settings will remain in place; or manually create a file in sdcard/cotrecovery/ with the title .userdefinedbackups and the sdcard folder you would like backups saved to: for example if you wanted to add rom manager compatibility you would want your backups to be in '/sdcard/clockworkmod/' so in the .file you would simply write 'clockworkmod' without the quotes.

Oh see, that is not a big deal at all. I would be willing to give that a shot, didn't even know there was an app Thanks for the detailed reply, I'm sure it will help others as well.

Don't know why I prefer unique recoveries and not popular ones
I like the look of this recovery, I have nothing as of yet to flash, but I'll definitely be keeping it

Yes the recovery works w/ 4.2 roms the only issue is the app that Drew did not being able to communicate with the sdcard properly in 4.2 (this is not related to the recovery itself).
Themes we could use more of; there is an outline of them on our forums and on github (nexus 7 is of course the jb-800x1200 branch)
Looks nice gonna give it a run through

I apologize; I ripped the thread layout off from Drew and didn't realize the source was not linked. I'll get it linked in the OP at a later time but for now suffice it to say yes we have open sourced everything; we have full intention of open sourcing all future related code as well (hence the 'Open' part of the name ):
Either sync a CM10 tree or use the jellybean branch in Drew's hacked up manifest (this will only build recovery).
Whichever way you sync your repo you will need to replace the recovery folder (Drew's manifest is pulling the old repo)
you will need the jellybean branch from the recovery itself:
android_bootable_recovery
if you used Drew's manifest you should already have the following if not you will want to pull these as well:
the jellybean branch from here
android_bootable_recovery_gui
and the master from here
android_bootable_recovery_res
Lastly; a slightly modified grouper device repo (pretty sure this one is also for recovery only lol)
I'll definitely give this a run when I can later today!
Pretty Awesome. Installed just fine on my Nexus7 WiFi. Gonna run this for a while and see how she goes, tnx!

Well... If the nexus 7 supports flash_image or dd (which I have no idea if it does, you'll have to find out or ask Drew) than yes it's possible; than again you could simply do it from a terminal emulator in that case. Fastboot is the safest way in particularly without having the device myself to play with.
finally got a chance to test her out, so far so good!
not the absolute best advance since sliced bread but i do love seeing an alternative!
as of now i give it a 7 out of ten being no problems i can find, everything seems to work but dont feel as if im gaining much over my other recovery options... that said i felt the same way at first with 4ext recovery and now i absolutely love it, so ill let you know if this moves to 10 out of 10 an time soon
thanks again for giving me options!

Finally... a fully working TWRP
Thanks Yasir.
Tested functions that I mostly use and yess... they are working fine, mount usb storage, backup & restore, install, wipe ... haha... almost perfect.
Just a tiny thing (not important to me), the progress windows has no text, only progress bar visible.
Thanks again for the good job

You have reported the bug. I have posted a possible solution. Whenever you reboot to this recovery, the automatic driver thats detected is not the USB Mass Storage, but if you unistall, refresh, and then select manual location for drivers and pick USB Mass Storage, it works properly.
Now i have spent 2 nights and 28 build attempts to fix the USB mount issue. It will be solved when it is solved. Please keep the thread dev related and try to post solutions rather then known issues. Or atleast post your recovery logs. I am not focusing on usb mount issue currently.

Definately gonna try this
Has anyone who tried one or a few of the images got problems or is everything fine?
How to download this?
Click on a color, it opens a google drive page and when you click on one of the two blue files on the left, there appears a blue download button.
How to instal, flash with flashify?
Backup modem support?
Modem backup supported. I can backup efs on my phone. Yep, with flashify but imo twrp 2.8.4.0 has native img support now. So that's the last time using flashify i guess.
Not a big flashify fan, so downloaded favo color, put it into a recovery zip, flashed from recovery, happy :good:
Glad u like it.

Yeah, not a big fan of flashify here too.
I downloaded the 2.8.4.0 flashable zip from original android development, flashed it, then flashed the img of my favourite color.
I wanted to flash my first image from twrp... and it's great, lol.
BTW, @pHaZic great job mate. Installed and working great. Also z3is1g already made his themes for 2.8.4.0, did you see? But i have no vibration feedback.... Have to report it to him.
Thanks again

@pHaZic :
I was wrong about the vibration issue of z31s1g's theme. The issue is on your side. I tried to flash the @777jon build of 2.8.4.0 and vibration works well. And I didn't notice before... your build cannot make backups of modern partition.
Don't know if this build has been built by yourself or if it's the 777jon one but maybe something is going wrong during the repacking or bumping of the image. I'd suggest you to use the 777jon's build because seems to have no issues.
Don't get me wrong mate, you really did an awesome and hard work.... I'm just reporting
Sent from the deep of the electronic soul of my supadaupapfunkaliciuos G3
Thanks everyone, i'll check it tomorrow.
I'm using z31s1g's theme and i'm able to make efs backups. Didn't know that this function seems to be povided by his theme(?). I can post a screenshot tomorrow but you seem to be right guys. Don't know why haptic feedback isn't working. I didn't really notice it until now. I'll rebuild them asap after work. At least i'll try, i'm a little bit busy tomorrow.
Thanks for the feedback and sorry for that mistake.
Good night!

Normally twrp doesn't have modem backup option. 777Jon's build is modified by himself to be able to backup modem and so on. pHaZic version is build from pure twrp source. He has just added themes on it. I agree Jon's version is better modem backup is safer.
Sent from my LG-D855 using Tapatalk
Rebuilded all 30 images with 777Jon's TWRP image as base.
- Modem backup support should now be included
- Haptic feedback is working
I've tested all the dark variations and everything is fine. Light ones should be ok too. :fingers-crossed:
Thanks!

The MKDelta is a bit lighter when applied also the lime is slightly different in colour too, because when I took the screenshot in twrp it inverted the colour and I had to recolour those images. I might do more colours in the future, just seeing what following is like first
Just flashed MKNaomi on my Note 9.
Easy to install.

Hey!
Nice to see people get interest for N9 twrp!
But yours versions suffered same issue as mine.
Unable to flash zips with script using some executable binaries (getprop, readlink and others) as devbase rom for exemple.
Could you tell me which device tree are you using? Isn't it mine?
Still trying (and hopefully already done) to fix it.

All images are Official apart from N9 which is still in development. I was led to believe the image was someone else's. All my xda thread for other models have had the thread link for N9 removed, all links on telegram channel removed and all AFH files removed. Very sorry for the confusion I will continue when a stable Official version comes out. Here is pics to show all links have been removed and link to AFH to show files are deleted
