Mods, please move this if it is not the correct place. Just didn't know where else to effectively post this.
Im running paranoid android and have noticed when using the new chat heads, you will not receive the popup in expanded desktop mode. I also notice that apps with fullscreen mode enabled, popups do not appear as well.
Now obviously this is a screwup on facebooks part, but hopeful some talented developer or coder can fix this. I would try but have zero experience in that area. Is it possible to get this working for expanded desktop mode and expanded apps?

I've searched how to disable immersive mode in KitKat, and found nothing but topics on how to enable immersive mode.
In some games, immersive mode is annoying, since you'll swipe an area of the game interface near the immersed status bar, and the status bar will appear while gaming.
Is there an app, mod, or setting that can disable immersive mode?
Thanks for any information.
I would also like to disable immersive mode but for different reason. Immersive mode hides the clock, battery, and notifications. It's really annoying to have to swipe inside the game area, altering the game state, to see the time or what app gave me a notification. I would rather lose the 20 pixels of screen real estate to keep the bar visible.
I want to disable this as well. That's the most irritating thing ever - UI elements that's supposed to give me control of the device, disappear or change their place.
Well, this question is still valid.
Likewise, infuriating! Constantly hides navigation buttons
I've been searching for that too! No results found here.
Agreed! Let us disable Immersive Mode!

I hope someone can write us an Xposed module or something to disable this retarded "feature".
Can't believe there are no responses to this...

I can understand need for IM in landscape mode on 16:9 AR device, but hey... This should be optional.
Did some googling and found a guide on how to add/remove certain apps from immersive mode on a nexus 7. Not sure what everyone here is running, but it involves having a rooted device and unknown sources enabled in the settings. Haven't tried it yet, but thought I'd post it here quick before I gave it a shot.

This article is a bit misleading. I thought it would help also, but it does not.
This method only works for forcing Immersive Mode, it does not prevent immersive mode on an application.

I've been busy all day so I haven't had the chance to try it, but towards the end of the article doesn't it give instructions on how to turn immersive mode off for specific applications? It says that turning it off for an app is as easy as turning it on for an app. Does this not work, or does the option not present itself? Strange...
The article is based on a much older version that the current 2.2 release of the module. I don't have the older version so I cant say that it used to work or not. But the latest version of the Xposed module works very differently.
It shows you all the apps, with Immersive unchecked, and you "enable" immersive mode by clicking the box. But clearning the checkbox has no affect on applications that you were not already forcing it on for.
Any news yet on if it's possible to disable immersive mode system wide?
Still looking...
I'm also still looking for a solution to this "feature."
I use a reader app that keeps hiding UI elements when it enters immersive mode... very annoying.

I switched to KitKat 2 days ago (4.4.4). However, I had to use a custom ROM (Omnirom) since Samsung does not provide any updates for my good old n7000 anymore.
So I don't know anything about other KitKat versions regarding this topic, but I found that Omnirom has an option built in (settings-security-lockscreen-disable immersive mode).
It can also be accessed by swiping down the status bar and using the corresponding quick settings button to toggle immersive mode.
That's all
Sadly, this option works in exactly opposite way: In Omnirom when its not enabled, it leaves default KK experience with immerisve mode only in Fullscreen apps that are built against newest SDK, or when enabled it forces Immersive Mode on all apps, including launcher, system-wide. http://poradnik.telewizor.eu/news.php
Any update on this? I haaaaaattttteeeee immersive mode.
Bump
Still looking for a way to disable immersive mode system wide. The note 4 and android 4.4 is a real downgrade for me overall. The worse task switcher, the worse immersive mode that no one asked for, the worse SD card restrictions that no one cared about and not to mention the wifi is very slow on my note 4.
Every search I find leads here... as stated previously, everything else out there is to "enable" it....
I really can't believe this drastic ui change is forced onto us, Android is the os of options... where is the option?
It's even more annoying that to get back the nav buttons, or top task bar, that the phone has to be rotated just right, or swiping doesn't work, half the screen stays blank after it closes, etc... I just want it off, want to see my navigation all the time!!!!
I hate Immersive mode!!!!!! :crying::crying::crying:
Quick Setting toggles in Paranoid are awesome, I really appreciate how they work.
However, I miss the option from CM to edit the toggles behaviour, intended as which options the toggle can show.
In my specific case, I would like to:
- remove the Device option from GPS toggle and use just Low/High precision
- remove LTE from Mobile Data Switcher, as I have no 4G traffic (I love Italy for this things... and sarcasm) so I can have 2G and 2G/3G (someone maybe prefer 3G only)
If anyone has any other preferences, write them below, I'd apreciate if others have my same thought.

Will try to understand JIRA in this case...
also, if we could get an update on that quick notification settings so we can decide if left or right edge of screen shall pull it down.. not just random.
thank you
@Pirateghost I can't register on JIRA; is that normal?

It stucks in an infinite loading; later I'll check if something change (I'm writing from the uni, as my computer is not working)
Re: Option to limit Quick Settings toggles
Whenever, I start my phone, all the toggles are there. The other best thing about this I had discovered is in order to remove them, one can simply turn off the toggles via notification switch or just via uninstalling the entire app.

I have no idea what this means. The QS tiles are not able to be uninstalled.

Hi there,
It seems Mi A3 has no real full screen mode except playing video.
I tried "adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.status=*" or "~.full=*", there'd be a black bar on top as the same area of the status bar. When using 'full screen mode' in some browsers, it behaves the same.
Is there any method to utilize this area other than status bar and video?
Thanks.
The notch area usage depends probably on the app. For example F-stop doesn't use notch area even in full screen, Google photos yes.

Thanks, but i wish there'd be a system-wide solution. I used to use adb immersive control on my previous Nokia phone and it worked well everywhere. That's without notch, though.

Immersive mode still works and you can control it system-wide or per app, but drawing over notch area must be defined by an app developers. Otherwise you'll see the black bar as you described.
Hi,
I found the immersive mode disappeared by itself recently -- the status bar came back.
I tried giving it adb command again and it looked fine at that moment. Then the status bar came right back after locking/unlocking the screen.
What's going on? Is there any other adb command affecting this?
Thanks.
If you have magisk there is a module but it isn't in the official repository.

Thanks, but I don't want to root my phone just yet.
BTW, I've used this command to grant permission to Fluid Navigation Gesture:
adb shell pm grant com.fb.fluid android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
Would it interact with the immersive mode by that app?
I've used both FNG and immersive mode in another phone and it's OK with both of them, but it's in Android 9.

I'm working with NotchKiller and FNG without issues.
ADB is needed.
Run
Code:
adb shell "settings get secure sysui_qs_tiles"
Save output of previous command
Prepare next command like this
Code:
adb shell "settings put secure sysui_qs_tiles '${previous command's output},nfc'"
Of course don't add ${}. It should look like this example:
Code:
adb shell "settings put secure sysui_qs_tiles 'wifi,bt,cell,rotation,airplane,dnd,location,custom(com.google.android.gms/.nearby.sharing.SharingTileService),flashlight,battery,hotspot,screenrecord,custom(com.dolby.daxappui/.DaxTileService),nfc'"
Now old AOSP NFC tile should be added to QS panel, but it may or may not work right now. It will appear in an unaccessible state and clicking on it may do nothing, but long pressing will open nfc settings.
We can sort of fix it. We need to open QS panel and move to the page with a newly added nfc tile. Then we run this command
Code:
adb shell "cmd statusbar click-tile nfc"
The SystemUI will crash and restart, but after that our nfc tile is usable. It still appears in an unaccessible state, but clicking on it will now successfully turn on nfc, and turn it off, depending on the situation. This UI bug is the only inconvenience. QS tile also reflects changes when nfc was enabled in settings or through Gpay right away, without any delay, so this tile works much better than any 3rd part one that relies on write_secure_setting permission.
After reboot, system_update etc. this tile may stop working, but if it doesn't disappear completely from QS panel, then redoing point 6 is necessary. If it is entirely gone, then the whole procedure must be repeated.
Bonus for future:
Sony have added it's custom nfc tile and also one for lte and sound in xperia 1 II (and as it turns out also 5 ii), that were used in other sony devices, for example xperia 5 with android 11 and a lot of older models. Sadly, event though they can be added using the same method, they can't be used, because they don't show up in QS panel, but they are saved in sysui_qs_tiles and are recognized by the system (behave like a ghost). Maybe Sony will do something about it in future update, since as it seems they were aware of the issue and started fixing it. I found about it from a one smart guy on 4pda here an here.
Maybe someone smarter than me, could hack up an app, that hooks up to those sony's custom services for enabling nfc, and make our own nfc tile, that actually works. I don't know if it is even possible. Porting com.sonyericsson.settings from xperia 5's android 11 firmware may also be some way out, but for sure out of the scope of my abilities.
They (sony) could also fix this built-in AOSP NFC QS tile. The code for it is literally publicly available, because it was fixed in GrapheneOS. If anyone from sony is reading this, please fix it ASAP, since it isn't anything difficult, but annoys every single time.
