[Q] Barometer? - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does the Z2 have a barometer like stated on Sony's developer site and whitepaper (found at bottom of link)?
http://developer.sonymobile.com/201...rding-5-2-display-quad-core-waterproof-video/
Test with this app and report please. If there isn't one a warning will appear at first.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sy.android.sypressure

Could anyone also confirm if it has step counter ? It is listed - and if it does have it then buying the Smart Band would be a little bit redundant, as Lifelog should work within the phone itself ?

We have the Walkmate app, which you can also download from Google Play, which uses the built-in accelerometer for a step counter. It has both a simple step-counter mode, supposed to be used running in the background all day, and a training mode, which is more suitable for running sessions.
The smartband, on the other hand, can distinguish between different types of movements automatically. You can also use it to switch on/off sleep mode,, to notify you about an incoming call or SMS, to control an application such as Walkman or Camera, and to set a "marker" for the time of significant events in lifelog. It also can warn you when it goes out of range from the phone, which is useful if you tend to forget the phone on your desk ( or in a bar...). In short, the Smartband can make your phone much more useful while still in your pocket.

ps I got my xperia s on the 9th March
Thanks for the reply, seems I was a little too late! I also received my Xperia S on the 9th. Oh well, guess that's more money I have to spend...
I don't understand how, but I just received my SmartWatch (MN2) from MobileFun in the UK. Nobody has stock and MobileFun still say they don't have a confirmed release date...yet here I have one this morning delivered. I think what may have happened is that stores were given single units to display prior to the main release, and as MobileFun is an Internet retailer, they just passed it as normal stock! It was sealed and had never been used before.
Now I am not using it with a Sony phone. I have an HTC Evo 3D. Although it is working, I have hit 2 issues already
1) This phone is listed as compatible, but the email notifier does NOT work with HTC phones. All other apps, like text, calendar, call log, music player, weather , facebook and twitter do work fine.
2) If the bluetooth connection is interrupted for any reason, such as moving out of range, sometimes it does not resume correctly and the watch ends up in an infinite loop trying to reconnect to the phone. I have to kill the processes on the phone to reset this.
It installed a firmware update when I first installed the Liveware and Smartwatch application on the phone, so I am sure there will be further improvements for things like this in due course.
It says it includes a USB charger on some websites. It does not. It just includes a unique type of USB cable that you have to plug-in to a generic charger or computer.
The touchscreen works quite well, but the image is not that bright and there is a yellowyness to the colours. Swipe up to move to widgets, swipe down to move to app icons, swipe across to move between pages, and use two fingers to go back up a level! There is no speaker in the Smartwatch but it does vibrate. The screen resolution is adequate but limited.

Thank you for reporting. Great to see your micro review with key issues listed. Now, about the bluetooth, I just have to say I'm flabbergasted. Sony Corp. have had A COUPLE OF YEARS to get this right since the LiveView and they still manage to screw it up. I'm sorry, but it just isn't acceptable.

I am not sure, at all. The LiveView received few and poor updates. Further improvements - well they cannot even get the basic functionality right so they shouldn't release it. I do hope you have a non-release version. This is appalling.

Yes the vibration alert is key. Shame they haven't got the Bluetooth right, though. I would have got a Motorola MotoACTV. At least they do upgrade the software every few weeks, BUT it lacks that one crucial factor the vibration alert.
Still hoping Sony will correct things before release.
On sonymobile sweden homepage the smartwatch is listed as "New" now, before is was listed as "coming soon", i think it was today they change that.
Sorry for my bad english.
Guys is it that bad
or are you so demanding
I was hoping to have fun with some accessories for Xps.
But now i very concern about it IS IT WORTH's IT since i dont want to put my money on the mud
Cheer up
seem's that sony wont get any more profit from me !!! Too bad SONY
I also got mine from mobilefun. Works well except for email notifications with LTE galaxy note. I get a device not supported message. It does reboot a couple of times but auto reconnects.
Battery life is good so far, I am pleasantly surprised. It also looks good.
It is quite good. It just isn't super reliable yet with those odd disconnections. The more apps you add in the more it does those random reconnects. The hardest test is the viewfinder app which really stresses the Bluetooth connection. The mail app will only work with Sony phones. Just have to hope someone develops an htc one. Battery life really is good.
I preordered mine and it should arrive 5th of April here in Germany. Since I have learned that BT-issues may be caused either by the gadget and the phone itself I give it a try.
But as an old Sony-victim (MBW 100, MBW 150, both dead short after the 2-years-warranty), I will return it immediately for refund when BT does not work properly.
Give you a report as soon as I have my hands on it.
arrived a bit ago
mine arrived last friday,
I'm semi impressed, but to be honest I don't think they should have called it a "Smartwatch" i think Smart Remote, or Extended Display would have been more correct.
1. if it doesn't get a BT connection to a phone it will not do anything,
2. if it looses the link ( phone with dead battery, turn off bluetooth to save that last bit of battery you have left ) it has a fit and will loose time eventually flash's the time then goes to a connection type screen like when you first got it.
3. VERY FEW USEFUL APPS, yes new events, and social network apps are working but aren't really over the top, the ViewFinder app sadly wasn't even done by sony yet in the original Live View the same feature app existed made by sony. what gives? there are only a handful off useful things for apps and gmail notifier isn't one of them. it just says if you have a mail and how many unread , doesn't tell you anything more. so really it's a bit of a letdown.
All in all i'm fine with it, and i put up with it, but I see why now some of the standalone android watch's are more expensive. can't say IMWATCH would be any different but i suspect it would be as it has storage on it suggesting you can load a few things and run it without the bluetooth but if you wanted updated info then it would need to re-link to the phone. this would be much more attractive then what sony did. so hopefully they'll catch on and at least allow you to keep TIME and maybe an onscreen setting as to 1 bluetooth on/off to save battery and just use as a watch sometimes, ( maybe an app? ) and have it not go into dead mode. fair enough if you power it off it loses everything and will require linking to the phone. Also MULTI DEVICE WOULD BE NICE, i have more then one android device that can run the software thusly if i want to take my Galaxy Note one day, my HTC SENSATION XE another, or my p920 another day, i should be able to choose which one i want to use with the phone that day and not have to keep re-pairing it. just maybe they can limit it to one connection at a time bt remember maybe up to 4 paired devices ( or at least 2 )
( meh why rant here as Sony never reads here mosta the time anyway )
Received my free Smartwatch from Phones 4 U today. Not had chance to play with it yet to give a review but thought I would mention as it would seem the accessories are now becoming generally available.
where are you guys buying these in the uk? Cant find any retailers
He's got one, and he's made a little video on it.
You can do some great things with the watch, seems cool. Hopefully when more apps start to pour through it will get even better
I just receive mine this morning.
A gift from thephonehouse with my Xperia S
Some basic apps from sony works perfectly.
But other apps (japanese most of them) working as they want...
Like an app : it command your camera and you can see in your watch live images. This apps launch your camera or not
A workaround to enable email notification on non-Sony phones with the new SmartWatch - note requires knowledge of Tasker.

I dont either but it makes me mad they gipped me on it!
Almost everything with a manual is going digital. Lower costs and makes a company look "green". Anyhow, you can use the help app on your phone. The users manual is located within.
ya ik this isnt my first phone i was just curious if i was the only one

More importantly we got no headset!
Got one worth mine. Of course it's still wrapped and will stay sitting there
Maybe I should call verizon and say since I did not get a manual with my Galaxy Note 2 do I get a free pair of headphones instead?
I only got a table leg leveler with mine. No idea!
The Verizon Note 2 does not come with a physical manual. It has the following physical documents:
- Star Here (and Comienza Aqui, the Start Here guide in Spanish)
- Product Safety & Warranty Information
- Global Support Calling Card
- Consumer Information About Radio Frequency Emissions & Responsible Driving
- Important Consumer Information
I have a feeling that people who are saying they received a manual are referring to one (or all) of those, but none of those are actual device user manuals though (at least in the sense that the OP is referring to). The actual user manual is 216 pages long. Verizon (and other carriers) have been cutting back on the included documentation with devices for a little while now.
If you want the actual user manual, you have to download it. It can be found on Samsung's support website for the Verizon Note 2.

That is exactly what I wanted to know THANK YOU! I just thought it was odd, My Droid Razr had one, my other cell phones had one but this one did not and I thought that was odd. I don't care about one but wanted to see if it was the new normal.
This is the one phone I could see shipping it as a PDF file included would make total sense. it fits the usage.
Not shipping earbuds/mic is just tacky given the price. You'll definitely be using those on this thing.
Ya but the odd thing using headphones today whenever I got a text it would play through the speakers not through the headphones

I'm guessing that the reason no headphones are included is because of the cost of the Spen.

WatchOn app?

I'm having trouble getting the WatchOn app to work. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
Seems like it works randomly. My OTS would turn on out of no where but never from the actions I defined.
I think this may have something to do with the sensors not working properly right now.

I liked the style of the app and the config page made me feel it would turn on when I wanted it, but the screen never ever ever never turned on once using it.
I tried a Screen Shake On app from play store, but it would only work for about two minutes after the screen went dark. Now I just push the power button, but am keeping my eye out for a good app to get this function.

Interestingly I've noticed that the app works great...as long as i'm connected to an external power supply. If i disconnect it...you know, to wear it or something...then it doesn't work.

There are known issues with the sensors on this device. Not much to be done about it until kernel source gets released.

Am I correct in thinking it is theoretically possible that an official firmware that fixes the problem could be released without the kernel source being released? (Trying to understand where the problem has to be fixed, as a matter of interest.)

Is this related to why the calibration screen appears to be perfectly consistent and it looks like the sensors are fine, but then once the screen has gone to sleep, it will wake up again for movements and orientations that seem to bear no resemblance to how it was set?
At one point I was halfway convinced that it was consistently waking up when I had the watch rotated to about 30 degrees closer to vertical and 45 degrees counterclockwise (using the face as the clock) from the settings I'd given it, but then I concluded I must have been inexplicably inebriated when I determined that.

I don't have any app of this type loaded at the moment. Sometimes I still catch the screen on. So, don't assume every time you see it lit up it's because of the WatchOn app. This thing is just 7 kinds of silly and does what it wants.

They still have not fixed the security and root issues I told them about in November. Mainly because they lack the skills. The only reason the sensors and app work on the EU 512/4 is because I fixed it by pulling the kernel from another x201.

I gather that means yes, theoretically, but it's far less likely.
I've installed https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.adl.appshakerShake and it seems to work pretty consistently (although the balance I have found for being able to activate it when I want without it activating because I scratched my nose or something is at a sensitivity of 9, which roughly translates to "vigorously rotate my wrist back and forth for about a second."
I just remembered I haven't reinstalled E-Robot since my last flash and I never got around to trying to use it to create a "turn the screen on when the watch shakes a lot" action; I may try that soon.
Shake is one of the very few that do work. I haven't tested them all but may include it in the next release as well as remote camera control for those that are doing the BT companion workaround.

Action when shaken: Simple - Turn Screen On
Sensitivity: 8 is working well for me, I recommend trying a little higher while you're attempting to get it to work...8 is a pretty vigorous back-and-forth rotation of the wrist for me.
Service State: On
Start at Phone Startup: checked
Active when screen is off: checked
Battery saving mode: unchecked
Vibrate when shaken: checked
Notify when shaken: checked (I think Turn Screen On is one of the actions for which this doesn't do anything)
Most shake or position based wake apps do not work on the 1/8 1900. Even Shake is inconsistent and it's the best so far.

Sony SmartBand fitness/activity/life tracker

Hey all just wondering if anyone here has purchased the Sony SmartBand yet? I'm contemplating getting one but already have the Withings Pulse activity tracker and a Sony SmartWatch 2.
I'm a fan of Sony products but not sure if the SmartBand is worth getting.
For those who don't know what the SmartBand is take a look here
I saw that it's available at a local shop, so maybe I'll stop by when my salary is there and pick it up. I'd rather get a real smartwatch - feature wise- , but I really want to have a cool sleep tracker and the Samsung Gear Fit is too ugly. Please report back, if you got yours.
Ok, I've got it and so far I'm satisfied. It's comfortable to wear and steps are counted accurately. You should try the Lifelog App, before you get one for yourself, because some people might not feel comfortable with the amount of data that is logged. The thing I'm most interested in is the sleeptracker, so I'll report back in a few days, when I can confirm the smart alarm function.
So long,
Kalle
Sent from my C6833 using XDA Free mobile app
I tried out the life logger app and didn't find it useful. Not sure why I want to know how long I used the internet for or read SMS messages for, etc.
The photo logging feature might be OK but the Xperia Z Ultra camera is pretty bad so I don't take too many photos with it.
Just got mine yesterday and really like the sleep tracker and step counter.

S6 edge as pedometer for Fitbit

This is something that I was able to do when I was using HTC one M8. Can we also use our device to count our steps for fitbit?
I know the SHealth app tracks our steps, but I would love to have this count on my Fitbit as well.

I don't think this is possible, Fitbit only support that one phone for the step tracking.
Jawbone do support it, and the step tracking seems to roughly match s health and my fibit, but the calorie estimate was way too high for me so I stopped using it.
It is pretty frustrating they don't support it because I keep forgetting my tracker. Seeing this post made me check my wrist, and I have forgotten it again today!

It looks like it's something that might come along soon enough.
If you join the beta program (Google+ Fitbit community) then you'll be able to update the Fitbit client and you'll see that it "supports" the S6 as a mobile tracker.
The downside? It doesn't work properly at all. In no time at all Fitbit will insist you've done enough steps to have circumnavigated the world a few times over.
This seems to be a similar issue encountered with Runtastic's pedometer app on our devices; it just keeps counting at an insane pace while the phone just sits on a desk.
Hopefully it will be fixed as it sure beats paying for a Fitbit device!

If anyone else tries this, you can undo the damage by adding the Driving activity as exercise. It will remove the steps and the restore the calories.
Does anyone know how well it works if you have the phone and the wristband on at the same time? I notice in their help article on multiple trackers it says they attempt to merge the data, but for the best accuracy you should only carry one at a time. Obviously with my phone as a tracker most of the time I will have both on me.
What I really want is for my wristband to be used most of the time, and the phone used only if I forget to wear it. I suspect this is not how it works in practice, and it will merge data through the day whenever one thinks there is activity and the other doesn't. I am concerned this will do more harm than good.
