Hi guys,
Long story short had a gs2 around 2 years back loved it rooted unlocked and custom romed it etc great, ended up selling and now got a nexus 4 which to me is growing on me slowly!!.
Anyways bought a new gs2 for my wife in white as she fancied it, arrived today its branded to orange and its the i9100p version.
Now I cant remember how I went about doing all mine, and before I get hammered I have done some searching and reading but can't find much to do with the p version?, I don't know how significant that is.
I basically want to:
1. Root - Easiest method
2. Free Unlock - hopefully unlock on play will work but any suggestions welcome
3. Install latest recovery, don't know if CWM or TWRP is best
4. Finally install best battery/performance kernel and rom
I've already downloaded Doomlord's script version 4 for rooting but don't know if a it will work or b if it will mess up the phone as its P version.
I've also downloaded RR_JB V3.1.3 rom as that seems very customisable, installs with aroma which I like and also seems v popular, again don't know if this compatible, I may be making a big deal of the p version issue and everything may work but would like some help from the more experienced guys before I get to work BTW its also running 4.0.4 ICS.
Any help or pointing in the right direction would be great.
Thanks
Mav

A good starting point for this S2 variant is HERE(Australian S2 help guide). A lot of your questions will be answered there, just have a good read. The "T" version has the same basic hardware and can run the same roms as the international version. Also there is a cwm that is touch: Philz. Unfortunately both philz and cwm are no longer being updated, although at the moment the latest versions are still good.
hey bro can u help me

Hello, guys. I need some help, if you can.
First question is if i need to root my device before installing a 4.2.2 rom. Currently i have 4.1.2 JB, but it's from factory and i haven't got the update from official soft. I don't care why i haven't, but i want it to be done.
I've read thousands of forums about rooting, installing roms and etc, but i still have some questions.
Second one is: If i finally manage to do that update to 4.2.2, what rom should i go to from there on? Stay at 4.2.2 or go further? I need a stable one, i'm not really a andoid geek, but sounds fun to get into it.
Which rom should i trust to install? First of all, i know that if i want to install a newer one, i still need to go from a 4.2.2 so i'm stuck at him for now.
And the most important: Can you provide me a link to instructions? I haven't ever done a root or installed a rom, so i'm virgin in this kind of stuff.
Best regards, Dezaxat.
Up, please ?
Hi there,
I'm sorry if this has been covered before in another thread but after searching with limited success I have been unable to find a detailed answer, perhaps I'm just a little bit dim & have missed something however.
QUESTION:
After installing CyanogenMod 11.0 [KitKat][4.4.2] by "Gava97" I have found that it is simply not for me. I would very much like to install Destro316's "Proformance" ROM [4.0.4] http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...m-4-0-4-proformance-rom-long-battery-t2547481 as it seems much more stable having been based on a stock Sony ROM.
Do I just flash the new ROM over the previous one? Do I return to a stock setup & redo the rooting process? If so, how?
Being extremely new at this android thing, I'm a little stumped as to how to proceed. All instructions seem too vague for me to confidently follow without bricking something. As I said, it may just be that I'm a missing something.
Phone was originally running [2.3.7] when I bought it, though I soon flashed to stock Sony ICS [4.0.4] Firmware version 6.1.1.B.1.100.
I unlocked my bootloader, rooted & installed Clockwordmod Recovery via this tutorial: www(dot)youtube(dot)com/watch?v=V232-3tZddE
I would be very grateful if anyone could fill me in with a step-by-step guide on removing all traces of CyanogenMod & installing this new ROM. Any suggestions for different ROM's are welcome as well, of course.
-----
Bootloader unlocked: Yes
Root: Yes
Clockworkmod Recovery: Yes
Kernel version: Transcendence v 1.1.6
Flashtool Version: 0.9.14.0
PC: Windows 7

I really am sorry if I missed something in my search, I'm very new at this.
I appreciate anyone taking the time to read this & help me out.
Cheers,
Miles

Just follow the instructions on the ROM threat, this is erasing your CM 11, then install your ROM through CWM.
Good luck!
U could Just follow the instructions that included at the ROM u want, that will eras your CM 11, then install the ROM U want through CWM.
Clean Install is required
Woops
Hi everyone!
Sorry for the late update.
So I attempted to follow the instructions outlined in the new rom I was attempting to install and it did nothing. Absolutely nothing. Phone continued to boot into Cyanogenmod 11 kitkat as if nothing had happened.
Now obviously I messed something up, but I needed a properly functioning phone for work asap so I bought an Xperia Z1 Compact just to be done with it. Over the hassle.
However it's been bothering me that I still have a basically pristine Xperia U minus it's software tantrum.
So, how do I go about restoring this phone to the factory Gingerbread and removing Cyanogenmod?
Baby steps please.

I'm by no means an expert.
I follow the guidelines here to flash my Xperia Sola from ICS to a Kitkat rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-u/issues/getting-startedrooting-bootloader-t2100529
I'm not entirely sure but downgrading should be similar? Fastboot (via flashtool) and flash boot.img. Then in recovery mode, flash the stock Gingerbread rom?
Hey guys,
Got on hands noname Chinese android phone with lollipop on board (even though it says 6.0.1 in settings) and MTK6580 quad processor, 3.10.72 kernel
can I somehow put cyanogen rom from another phone?
Yes, find another phone using that chip: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_devices_using_Mediatek_SoCs
Then go here: http://www.needrom.com and find THAT phone(s) and see if there is a custom rom for THAT phone also using the same kernal 3.10/3.12 etc
Download that rom and port it yourself using the boot.img from YOUR phone using this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/guide-how-to-port-lollipop-based-roms-t3223938
And get it at least booting on your phone, out of loads I've done on MTK phones, 95% boot up first time, 50% of those have no issues, the other 50% have issues with cameras/wifi/video/phone that can be fixed literally with trial and error of swapping files from your stock rom to the new rom, can take hours/days of trial and error or could take minutes.
Have fun
EDIT: try to use a custom rom from a brand you have at least kinda heard of, doogee, walton, infinix...etc to make it more likely to work well.

Thank you for your response!
After few hours of research I have found many ROMs that are applicable for my phone. The thing is, I want it to be and look as close to stock android as possible, and as close to most recent version as well.
But still I have few questions:
1)Am I right by saying that kernel 3.10.72 is suitable only for android 5.x?
2)Is it possible to put android 6.x or 7.x?
3)If it is do I need to ugrade kernel?
4)Is it possible to upgrade kernel?
I really hope it's not too much to ask from you.

vant2239

Your phone is basically the same as mine, and sadly the kernal has to be the same for every custom ROM, there are no kernel sources so no custom kernels, which means we are both stuck with lollipop
The infinix hot 2 for example, is the same MTK chip and was released with lollipop and kernel 3.10 but then infinix released a stock marshmallow upgrade, with a stock 3.12 kernel so they could get a custom 6.0 rom which im 99% sure we will never get.
If you go here: http://www.needrom.com/author/robneymcplum/ this is me on there, where I have ported the best 5.1.1 roms with our kernel. You will need to port to your phone, which is literally just swapping about 10 files from your stock rom so make a backup of your stock rom or find stock firmware, and get the files from there and use the guide i already posted.
Hope this helps. And if you have never done it, its way, WAY easier than you think it might be
