All the drivers are installed and i've tried different usb ports, when i run flashtool it detects SOMETHING but it can't help me since im trying to flash a new rom.
When i type fastboot flash boot kernel.elf it says < waiting for device > and i wait and reconnect and wait once again but nothing happens.
when i type adb/fastboot devices its just an empty field (doesn't detect anything)
I've tried all the search results that i've found and i can't get it to work, any ideas?

First of all, WRONG THREAD. This should be posted in the Q&A section. Keep that in mind.
Second, have you installed the Xperia S and Fastboot drivers? You can find it in Flashtool folder->Drivers. If you already have, have you tried on another computer?
Sorry about that and yeah but when i finished unlocking the bootloader the pc doesnt seem to find my device except through Flashtool and i tried flashing a kernel.sin with a CWM and then flashed KA09 but after that i couldnt flash a New kernel.sin to get out of the CWM loop so i reflashed original ftf file to get back to a working phone.
Im on my way now to try it on another computer now so keep your fingers crossed for me!

Probably can't help you, but since updating to ICS my XS constantly doesn't show up in my computer, or become found by PC companion. I have found the only way to get it to work, is to select 'install PC companion when phone is connected" option. This normally seems to get it to work.
Though I'm guessing that isn't a lot of help seeing as this is when you connect it in flash mode?
Pc companion finds the phone and i uninstalled it to see if that made any difference but without success
The problem is that i cant use manual fastboot commands from cmd prompt since it doesnt detect any devices when i type fastboot devices and when i try fastboot flash boot kernel.elf it just says waiting for device :/ ( tried reconnecting here but it didnt help)

After tinkering with it for a while, I got it to recognize it, and I flashed it. Problem solved right? well no. Odin gave its "pass!" notification, but it only took 3 seconds, and my device was stuck on the same bootloop that drove me to flash it in the first place. Now, no matter what I do, My computer will not recognize it. I obviously have drivers or it wouldnt of worked the first time. same cord, same computer, same version of odin and everything. I have no problem getting the device into download mode, and I have odin open, cord plugged into computer while I put it in download mode, then I plug in device. also run odin as ADMINISTRATOR. Factory reset also Did not fix my bootloop. no sd card inserted. device is US samsung galaxy player 3.6. computer is running Windows vista 64bit

Ive done that countless times and it makes absolutly no difference. do you think maybe i messed it up when i flashed it the first time (to where the computer wont recognize it?) i used the normalboot img to flash it with odin. when I got it to work the first time, the very second I plugged it in it started downloading drivers. also yesterday I reinstalled kies and all of the drivers.
I installed kies and plugged the device in, then kies installed drivers and it worked.

Like I have said, I have gotten it to work on this computer. I did try it on my dads computer (windows 7 ultimate, not sure if 32 or 64) and no luck. I have reinstalled kies twice now. order I do things? open odin (as administrator) with cord plugged into computer ONLY. then put device into download mode and plug it in. thank you all for helping, but it is starting to seem i will never get this thing fixed! someone give me a miracle?
Dont know about 3.6 but with 5.0 you can only flash Zimage ..not boot.img

one other side note, I can tell it is drawing power from the computer. (when i take the battery out it stays on until I unplug it)
and the file is normalboot.tar.md5 (not img) Im not positive what you are talking about. thanks for helping! any info at all could be something I am overlooking

I can give you some advice.
1.Can your device reboot to CWM? If so,you can wipe data.
2.Sure you have the USB Debugging turn on.
3.Sure that Your USB Data Line is intact and it is suitable for you device.
4.I think you'd better change a USB Date Line.......
Once you get the computer to recognize the device, flash factoryfs from odin

I already reset it multiple times (power and volume up > reset or whatever it is) cannot boot it (which is why I am flashing it) so I cannot put it in usb debugging mode. the cord is brand new and I have used it to flash the same device the first time. after the first flash it will not connect. I will still try other cords (that I will prob. have to borrow, I only have one) I already have the facrotyfs image, so thanks for reassuring krzee, because I wasnt sure.
Yeah I have the factory fs, now If i can get my computer to recognize the device! Will try other computers/cords whenever I can. again, It is not rooted, so no CWM. I can put it in normal recovery and wipe the data, which as I have said, I have already done 10ish times or so.

Did you try with kies?
Sent from my GT-I8190N using xda app-developers app
maybe I would try it with kies if my computer recognized the thing!
it doesnt have to, just install kies and plug in the device... for me, kies installed drivers while device was bricked, and after that i booted into download mode, and odin recognised it...

It should already have the kies drivers, being i have used the device with kies before it did all this. when I turn it on (just by the power button) then plug it in (BOOTLOOP) it tries to install drivers from the device processor (it comes up with some weird name, googled it and it was the name of the processor) but fails when the device shuts off and turns back on. when it is off and I plug it in, a loading circle comes up but never spins. ive let it sit at the circle for hours. the computer never picks it up and it never does anything.
another thing. when in recovery, what is the "install update from sdcard" option? can I actually load the same file as I would use in odin onto the card and try it that way? I am talking to samsung support right now. they say the problem is internal and it needs to be serviced. it has the custom rom on it can they pick that up? it is not rooted, it is stock but it comes up as custom in download mode

if you have cwm, you can put rom(that is in zip format) to sd card and install it via cwm...

this may sound like a noob question, but does having this "install from sdcard" mean I have CWM?

it might, im not sure does stock recovery have that option too, but you should put rom on sd and try to install it via that option to see if it works..

if you can't get adb working then you need an OTG cable.
I bought my One with bootloader unlocked but the guy who sold me the phone unrooted the phone before shipping and i've tried to follow the rooting and the unlocking bootloader through fastboot methods but every time i open sdk manager it just says i have to update, i update then it says restart, and no mater what i do, cmd just keeps telling me fastboot is not a recognized command... blah blah... short question is, is there a rooting app i can purchase or if anyone can give me a helping hand?
Edit: I have followed the steps exactly, switched off fastboot in power menu, and powered off entered fastboot from bootloader, plugged in device, entered cmd and tried it but i get the aforementioned error.
Edit 2: I made the folder and placed my files and it seemed to go a little smoothly but it says waiting on device and just hangs there. The computer is still not recognizing the phone, i still get USB not recognized. try reconnecting the device....
Oh also, trying to install a recovery to this, so i can root... but just an easy way
Please help me, someone... the bootloader says unlocked btw. but fastboot does nothing when trying to flash via cmd.
if you are running windows 8 you may need to install the correct drivers, i had the same problem when i tried to root my M7 and im runinng windows 8, if youd like the drivers, PM me i cant remember where i got them from, but i have them still. Also if you can try switching USB ports, i had to use a different one and everything went kinda smooth after that.
