Hi guys, after getting my Pantech Burst, I found it very difficult to root the phone, disable 4g, and to avoid bugs in my phone after updating to ICS.
Most of these things are explained in the forums but in a vague manner without any illustration.
I am starting this topic to give a pictorial Illustration of rooting, avoiding bugs, and disabling the 4g connectivity for gaining more battery backup.
If anyone is finding any other ways for removing the bugs, feel free to add it here. I will hotlink the topic to this page. Thanks.
Scroll down to see how to do the following things
1. How to update your phone to stock ICS (Post 2)
2. How to disable 4g on ICS (Post 3)
3. How to root the phone on ICS (Post 4)
4. How to get more battery backup (Post 5)
5. Easiest method of installing clockwork mod recovery (Post 6)

1. Updating the phone to stock ICS
Step 1: Download the updater file from https://www.pantechusa.com/upgrade/burst/
Step 2: Unzip and run the installer, connect your phone in USB Debugging mode
Step 3: Click on update, wait for about 15 minutes. Phone will restart itself with the new update.
Nb: Phone will not be recognized by the software if you are using a 64 bit version of windows because of a driver issue. You will need a 32 bit version of windows 7 or 8 for installing the update.
For getting your phone into USB debugging mode, follow these instructions.
Step 1: Click on Settings in menu
Step 2: Click on Apps
Step 3: Click on USB debugging and enable it

Please note that you need a windows 32 bit computer for doing all these. Else driver not found error can occur
Nb: All commands are to be entered without "quotes" :cyclops:
4. How to get more battery backup on ICS
Step 1: After rooting, uninstall all unwanted software from the phone using titanium backup which can be downloaded for free from Play Store
Step 2: Download any battery calibration software from Play Store (search for battery calibration, download the 1st app)
Step 3: Install and run the software after your battery is charged to 100%
Step 4: Allow the battery to discharge completely
Step 5: Charge the phone to 100% one more time and restart it
Follow these methods too. (Pointed our by another XDA Member)
1. turn the screen down to the minimum brightness (there are three levels on the Burst, the dimmest is just fine for indoor use).
2. you can use SetCPU to change the CPU behavior in terms of clocking. This can dramatically improve battery life at a cost.
3. Turn off LTE
4. Turn on WiFi and hang out in good wifi coverage areas
5. Turn off any email push notifications, change email to check every 15 minutes max during peak times
6. turn off other auto push data stuff like photo syncing and that kind of thing
7. turn off GPS unless you are using it
8. Don't power-cycle or reboot the phone!
That's it. Enjoy more battery backup on "STOCK ROM"
5. Easiest method of installing clockwork mod recovery
Step 1: Download rom manager
Step 2: Run ROM Manager, choose "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery"
Step 3: Wait for some time, allow super user confirmation
Step 4: Test clockwork mod by choosing the option, "Reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery"
Enjoy!!!
6. Custom ROMs for Pantech Burst (Constantly Updated)

oh man! I did everything like you told to root my pantech

when I select " install zip from sdcard "
nothing is happening. what other option do i have now
I could not find a thread on xda for rooting and keeping the boot loader locked on my note 2, so this is how to root your Verizon note 2 running vrall4 4.1.1 vzw note 2. I read through Adams casual thread but really only wanted root, did not want to unlock the boot loader. I found bits and pieces of this on various websites throughout internet land and wanted something straight to the point and concise so here is what I did;
This method will only root your phone. It does not unlock/jailbreak it. If you want to run custom ROMS, use Adams Casual program to unlock your phone. I only wanted root which is why I chose this method. The 2 files you'll need for this are called Odin and the root66 file. I did this root on my windows xp sp3 pc. I had a hard time getting windows xp to recognize my device. It took me a few days to get the pc to sync up to my computer. I believe that problem came from the way android now transfers files through MTP instead of the older usb mass storage mode ever since android 4.x, MTP is the new standard now. I wrote how I did that here on xda at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42048511 . You might have to scroll down a little on the page to find my response. Those are the only 2 files you need to make your note 2 sing to your win xp sp3 pc. Now, back to the rooting:
Requirements:
goto settings>about phone to make sure this matches up
sch-i605 (Verizon)
4.1.1
VRALL4
I copied and pasted some of the directions below from the 2 websites sourced at the bottom and updated what worked for me as well.
Step 1: Download and install these 2 files to your pc:
Odin - http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...2&d=1340993443
Step 2: Download the rooted file below to your pc:
root66vzw - root66_VZW_stock_system.7z - 986.31 MB
Step 3: Power device off, hold the volume down/home/power keys until you see a yellow triangle, then press the volume up key to access "odin or download mode".
Step 4: Open odin and connect the oem usb cable from pc to device. Adb driver should automatically install(atleast it did for me on windows 7). There should be a "comport number" in upper left hand corner of odin indicating communication between the pc & device.
Step 5: Uncheck Auto reboot leave the other box checked
Step 6: Click on the PDA function of Odin. Select the rooted system.img you downloaded in step 2, then select start. This operation should take less than 8 minutes before Odin will say pass/reset. It took me exactly 9:30 total for this process so be patient. Also after about 7 minutes Odin showed RESET in the box. Do not reset the device until Odin says threads completed. I almost removed the cable to the phone because it looked like Odin and my phone were finished installing the root, but it was not. The blue completion bar on the phone also was full but trust me, just wait for Odin to say completed and the box to say PASS. Once the box changes from RESET to PASS, then you can remove the cable and your good to go. See the attached pics at the bottom.
Step 7: Pull and reinstall battery.
Step 8: Press and hold the volume up/home/power buttons until you see a green android. You should boot into ASR(Android Stock Recovery)
Step 9: Wipe cache.(If you experience errors, boot back into ASR and wipe data.)
Step 10 reboot!

The actual files are posted in droidstyles thread in Development, there isn't a guide yet for it though. Either way it should be posted in Development, not Original Development. I would've asked droidstyle to add it to his thread to keep from cluttering the forums, you could've even asked for credit for writing it out if you wanted. Either way this is supposed to be in Development so you may want to contact the mods and ask them to move it.

Samsung USB Drivers
Odin3 v3.07
KU1.9_SM-G318H_4.4.4.tar (recovery+cache)
Root include standalone KingoUser 1.9 apk.
Work on Android 4.4.4
Build: G318HXCU0AOE5
Kernel: 3.10.17-589709
Serial: KTU84P.G318HXCU0AOE8
hello,
can you post the steps in order to root the SM-G318H ?
thanks !
Hi, Where is the file?
I don't found...
Well so let's go for a step by step.
WARNING: Warranty will be definitly remove after rooting your phone !
You need an USB data cable, generally provided with phone pack.
1 - Download Samsung USB Drivers and install it.
It can be found on official Samsung Developers website [Not enough right to post links].
2 - Download Odin3 v3.07, can be found everywhere !
3 - Download KU1.9_SM-G318H_4.4.4.tar [Not enough right to post links].
4 - Connect the phone and power it up in Odin mode by pressing Volume down + home + Power.
5 - Start Odin3 exe and load the tar file into PDA, only Auto Reboot will be checked in Option section.
6 - When Odin has find the ID:COM press Start.
Phone automatically reboot in KingoRoot recovery mode to install root service and KingoUser 1.9 apk, it's take about 30 sec and then auto reboot in normal way.
Done with no datas loss (backup them before in case of), you can upgrade KingoUser 1.9 to the latest 2.0.2.
Be aware that the phone still has Kingo recovery image and you can't have a recovery mode [Volume up + home + power] for update.zip, clear/wipe data, etc...
To grant this, put back original recovery PDA file image with Odin (step 4 to 6).
It can be extract from official firmware (recovery.img) and repack into tar/tar.md5 file for PDA.
Feedbacks and thanks are welcome.

Tweak your Rooted SM-G318H to absolute top performance. I recommend the Ultimate Utility PowerToolbox a MustHave for android PowerUsers the All-In-One Toolbox containing a lot Powerful system utilities (google playstore). Warning don't apply risky changes that can seriously mash up (brick) your phone or resulting in a unstable frequently crashing system. Some changes can't be rolled back. So only apply risky changes with outstanding knowledge of the android system. Otherwise you have flash the (original) Stock firmware including the root tar for SM-G318H again and reinstall all your apps.
All-In-One Toolbox APK==> imoblife.toolbox.full-5.2.9.1.apk

Let me get the package. Will get back to you.
I'm looking to do this later today. I've done quite a bit of reading and would like a confirmation (or correction) on the steps I plan to do.
Goal:
Upgrade my Note 4 (n910v) from Android 5.0.1 to use an NSeven rom.
Here is my phone information:
Model: SM-N910V
Android Version: 5.0.1
Baseband: N910VVRU2BOG5
USA carrier - changing from Verizon service to TMobile
My current plan:
Use Odin 3 to upgrade from N910VVRU2BOG5 to N910VVRU2BPA1 using the full firmware here. Is this guide adequate for the manual update?
Once upgrade to 5.1.1, I want to root and unlock the bootloader using this guide.
After that, I want to update the rom to NSeven using the guide here.
Questions:
Are there any issues with the steps above?
Are the guides adequate? Or are the other ones preferred?
Do I need to flash to Android 6.0.1 after rooting & unlocking the bootloader prior to using NSeven?
Thank you for taking the time to read and hopefully reply. I just want to be sure I have the right idea before I get started.
Sorry to bump this, but any chance someone has time for a response?

OK. I don't know about those steps, as I took a different route to get to the Nseven rom. Make sure you have the ADB/Odin 3.09 or 3.10 and Samsung drivers already installed on your PC. You might want to get/DL Kingroot.apk aswell.
Step 1.
Download the 5.1.1 BPA1 full firmware, this should be a all in one file. None of these separate files eg.BL AP CSC..
"I downloaded this from Sammobile"
Step 2.
Open Odin and add the firmware file to the AP tab by clicking on it and navigating to where file is located. This takes a little while to show as Odin checks the file before adding it( Make sure Auto reboot and F.Reset Time are ticked)
Step 3.
Make sure you have unlocked "DEVELOPER MODE" and "USB DEBUGGING" is ticked before powering down your phone and putting it into download mode by holding the 3 keys Vol Down,Power,Home then Vol Up to continue, once your in DL mode connect to PC. There may be a little pause as your PC may install further driver files before Odin recognizes you phone and adds it under "ID;COM". Once your phone has been added into the ID:COM you can go ahead and press START. Allow Odin to do its stuff and once your phone reboots you can unplug from the PC.
Now you should be on the 5.1.1 BPA1 firmware.
Allow your phone to boot completely, you can skip the whole setup process but you'll need to be connected to WiFi for the next process.
GAINING TEMP ROOT.
Step 1.
Transfer the "KINGROOT.APK" to your phone and install but don't open it yet.
Step 2.
Unlock Developer Mode again and tick USB DEBUGGING. * This is necessary for ADB.
Step 3.
Open Kingroot and allow it to check for root this can take awhile just be patient. Once it throws up the results it'll ask if you want to try "TRY TO ROOT". click on the tab and watch the process. " Your phone will reboot a few times during the process" I just reopened Kingroot each time it did until the process was done. ******You'll have to repeat this process again***** as your Phone reboots while your pushing the command file through ADB. Losing root in the process.
Now that you've repeated the process again and you have gained TEMP root. You can confirm this with "ROOT Checker" you can reconnect your phone to your PC.
Step 4.
Make sure you have the "Samsung_unlock_n4-fix script file in your FASTBOOT folder located in the extracted files of ADB.
Now open a ADB command window *Open this in the same folder where you exacted ADB. to do this hold Shift and click Right mouse button on any clear area of the ADB folder and scroll down to "Open command window here"
Step 5.
Within the command window type "CD Fastboot"
To confirm your device is added type" ADB devices"
You should see a random number listed under "List of devices"
If you do your set to go.
For this next step its best you have the Notepad open with these commands to make it easier. ****COPY & PASTE*****
The commands are.....* without the numbers in front of it
#1. adb push samsung_unlock_n4-fix
#2. adb shell
#3. su
#4. cd/data/tmp/
#5. chmod 777 samsung_unlock_n4-fix
#6. chown root. root samsung_unlock_n4-fix
#7. . / samsung_unlock_n4-fix
OK time to push the file. Start with the 1st command and press enter. Then the 2nd and press enter. Then the 3rd and press enter. Then the 4th, then the 5th and 6th then the 7th.
Now once you've enter the 7th command you'll be presented with a warning just type YES ****USING THE SHIFT KEY WHILE DO SO****** and wait while the process completes. Your phone will reboot to confirm the process is complete.
******NOTE*******
Your phone will reboot but reboot into a Bootloop, don't worry just pull the battery and memory card. Replace the battery but not the memory card. Reboot into DL mode to confirm that you are now in/a Developer Mode.
**********CONGRATULATIONS YOU JUST UNLOCKED THE BOOTLOADER********
*****NOW HERE COMES THE STINK PART*******
You'll need to flash the N910VVRU2BPA1_N910VVRU2CPD1 full firmware with Odin this will update the Bootloader to CPD1 required for Nseven to boot. But in doing so will LOCK the bootloader again. ARRRGGGGG!!!!!!
So.....
Step 1.
Put your newly unlocked phone into DL mode again and reconnect to Odin.
Step 2.
Place the BPA1/CPD1 firmware into the AP slot and press start
Disconnect when the phone reboots. Allow it to fully boot/skip the setup process. ******Note you will need Mobile Data as WiFi is non usable due to the updated firmware.
Step 3.
Reformat your memory card using your PC and place back into your phone, reconnect your phone to PC and transfer ROOTKING.APK over again.
Step 4.
Turn on Mobile data. Install KINGROOT and open, follow the same process you did to unlock 5.1.1. This time it may take a little longer and there's a chance Kingroot will fail to root just try again.
*It did it to me.
*There's a chance your phone will reboot when it comes to pushing the command file, unfortunately that's just the way it is. Just repeat the Kingroot process again.
Step 5.
Now that you've gained TEMP ROOT again, You'll need to run ADB and push the scripts again. Just follow the same process you did for 5.1.1 BPA1.
Even down to pulling the Batt & Memory card.
Step 6.
Now that the bootloader is unlocked, place phone into DL mode and reconnect to PC and Odin. Now again AP slot navigate to where you placed your Custom recovery.
****NOTE. I used TWRP 2.8.7.0 trltevzv.img as TWRP 3.0.2.0 Didn't work for me. And flash disconnecting when phone reboots.
********Congrats you now have a UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER and a CUSTOM RECOVERY on 5.1.1 with a CPD1 bootloader.
Time to flash Nseven. *don't forget to reformat your memory card.
To flash Nseven, just copy over the Nseven zip file to your memory card and flash using TWRP.......ENJOY.
* Note. I didn't flash anything else apart from the CPL1 Nseven
Even though I had all the files DL. Just follow the Nseven forum if you experience any problems.
Hope this helps getting you into/onto Nseven.

May I have this thread moved to the guides section for this device? Thanks!
UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE
I have made a flashable stock recovery! Select AP in Odin and load this file!
INTRODUCTION
This guide is similar to the previous root instructions posted earlier for this device, only this guide does not require debloating or blocking packages.
DISCLAIMER
This method is provided as is, without any form of insurance or responsibility if your phone grows legs and hops off a balcony. Proceed at your own risk!
PREPARATION
You will need the following:
- Samsung Galaxy On5 (SM-S550TL)
- 50% or more battery
- Kingroot version 5.0.5 (Linked at bottom)
- Permissive Boot.tar (Find it here )
- Stock ROM (Find it Here )
- Odin (Latest Version)
- Patience and a cup of coffee
PART ONE: ODIN A
You do not necessarily have to follow this first step, unless you have already been toying around with your On5. Completely power off your device. Now press and hold the [VOL DOWN] [HOME] and [POWER] keys until the warning screen for Odin mode appears. Press [VOL UP] to enter Odin Mode.
With Odin installed and running, confirm that your device has been added. Now load the file named ALL_TFN_S550TLUDU1APG1_S550TLTFN1APG1_CL8482018_QB10267860_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5.
Press start and wait for the PASS Signal. WARNING! YOU WILL LOSE ALL PERSONAL DATA AND FILES ON THIS DEVICE!
PART TWO: PHONE PREP
When the phone has booted, proceed through the setup while looking for Google or KNOX popups. Decline any security prompts from Google and at the end of the setup, do not install My KNOX.
Go to your settings from the launcher and select the 'About Phone' option. Look for the field labeled 'Build Number' and tap it until it says 'You are now a developer!'
Go back and you will find the development settings. Enable USB Debugging and Unlock OEM settings.
Now go to Lockscreen and Security and allow unknown sources. Power off your device and go back into Odin mode.
PART THREE: ODIN B
From the Odin window click AP and load the file boot.tar and click start. your device will flash and reboot. Your SE Linux is now set to permissive.
PART FOUR: FINALE
Now install the kingroot 5.0.5 app (kr505.apk) and run it. When the root process starts, do not touch your device unless it freezes, in which case you will pull your battery and retry. If you have adb, and would like to help me make this better, run logcat on the device while it roots. RUN LOGCAT BEFORE YOU BEGIN THE ROOT PROCESS! With luck you should be rooted. No debloating required. If Kingroot asks to disable KNOX, tell it yes.
Very informational we need guides like this more often

The AQC4 firmware can be rooted too, if you want to add that to your post.

I can't figure out how to root the SM-G550T1 on AQC4. SELinux is permissive, but KingRoot just refuses to work. Did I trip KNOX for nothing?
Freezed at 17%. anyone has any luck?
