I would prefer to do it on my own machine, at my own house..
My wife has a corporate win7 laptop, but, she doesn't like me using it for stuff like that..
Plus, I haven't used a win doze machine in over 5 years, so I am not that comfortable with them now.
Besides, there are tons of users here that are mac only, and have a hard time getting their hands on a win machine...
unrevoked had a mac solution shortly after they rooted the evo4g, so I am hoping the same thing happens with revolution..
If I recall correctly OSX is a BSD and is POSIX compliant...essentially a *nix... depending on how they implemented their linux version of the fix it might just work or work with csh or bash. Or I'm totally wrong...worth a shot either way.
Edit: Now I'm curious, I'm gunna reboot to hackintosh, brb
sorry, nevermind...it's a binary. I thought it might be a script.
okay, onto solutions.....you are on the internet in 2011 so I'd imagine you have an intel mac...install a temporary windows partition on a spare drive or empty partition....or. go download a linux live CD, burn that and boot to that and run the linux version of the fix.

Go get a windows installation cd. Go to finder>utilities>bootcamp manager>burn the mac drivers for windows> insert windows cd (even if its not "activated)> install windows> do not activate (if you don't have a key)> boom 30 day trial of windows> install mac driver disk>download and install HTC sync> then uninstall only the application HTC sync> install revolutionary> make the beta code and get s off> option boot back into mac> now go back to bootcamp manager and you can restore the partition or keep windows> also go to system preferences and select your start up disk as mac so you don't have to option boot every time lol
Would take less than hour and a half

I'm pretty sure that AlphaRev said that there won't be a Mac version. I could be wrong.
Problem with doing it in a VM is on a Mac doesn't play nice with USB when running a virtual box.
I think s linux live cd or live USB is going to be your best option.

yeah...I think the LiveCD is the quickest route. Blank discs are dirt cheap and you already (most likely) have some sitting right there...there are some absolutely tiny LiveCD installs out there that will download in seconds, burn in seconds and you boot up to a system in a minute or two that is ready to go....sure, sound might not work and 3d acceleration might not work, but, who cares...I have never seen USB not work and that's all that matters.....if the network card/wireless don't wory, big deal...be sure to download that onto a memory stick or usb drive or hard drive first...almost all live cd's can at least read NTFS by now
I tried Ubuntu 11 64 bit, and it would not "test run" from the cd itself, and I didn't want to perm-install Linux at this point..
I have upgraded to OSX 10.7 Lion, and its a little different than Snow Leopard, so I think I can't do it through Linux that way..
Thanks for all these suggestions, guys; I just would prefer a native Mac method, and I bet one gets released in the next few days..Too many Mac only users out there now, especially in the Android Community

Man, I'd be going out of my mind watching all this action here in the Evo 3D section, and not being able to partake in it. I'd be banging on my neighbors door, USB cable in hand and telling him that I have an extreme Android emergency and need to use the computer for 30 minutes. It really should only take about 10 minutes all together, installing the drivers and everything.
You have will power sir. Just watching all this flashing, ROMS, kernels, scripts and everything come to life from the sidelines.
I was able to run Revolutionary just fine using Parallels and a windows 7 installation.. first time messing with vm's, pretty neat I can see myself using it for several things in the future

Well, over the last 20+ years of hacking phones, I have messed up enough of them to learn to take my time when a new "fix" comes out, and wait a few days for the dust to settle, and the problems to get posted; that way, if I have any of them when I do it, the answers are already out there.
After waiting since june for root to be achieved, I figure another day or two won't kill me..
Sorry all the Mac bashers feel the need to take potshots at me; I used win doze for almost 20 years until I came to my senses..
before I state my question, YES i tried searching around this forum for my particular problem, but I'm kinda ishy-washy on some of it- I'm one of those people who needs an answer to my exact problem so sorry!
Anyways, I have this HP Touchpad for awhile (my Aunt bought it for me when it was on a huge sale in mid November) and I kinda got pissed at it with it's lack of apps and things to do, compared to what my friend has: an iPad. So I put it in my closet, until now where I'm just craving for a tablet.
But I still have the same problem: THERE'S NOTHING I CAN DO WITH IT. I have watched many videos and blogs about how people changed their touchpad to different systems and I'm interested on how to do that. First of all, which system is good for me to switch too? I do not want to switch to a system that will not benefit me at all. I am aiming for using a tablet for opening Microsoft files (Word, Powerpoint) and editing the files, playing FUN games (not that awful Robotek game), and watching videos on youtube.
So which system you recommend on me getting? And what tutorial to follow to get that system? Is there risks involved (I do not want to waste my touchpad)? How big of a risk? Should I just save up for an iPad? Also please be specific on the tutorial on what to do (Preferably a video tut or possibly have one of yall geniuses be there while I do it)
Sorry for all the questions lol I'm just about this close to throwing this tablet out of the window.
Well, there are a few things you can do with it already.
Firstly, WebOS is a nice OS. Yes, there's a lack of games for it at the moment. Yes there's a lack of other non-game apps available for it, too. That's a given. WebOS is just not as popular. HOWEVER. With it being open-sourced this year, that should change.
Secondly, the ability to install Android on your Touchpad is well documented. There's a great guide on how to do that at this link here (to RootzWiki). They are the people who put CyanogenMod 9 (Android 4, Ice Cream Sandwich) on the Touchpad. This means you have a tablet OS of Android that works, is (in my opinion) extremely stable, and can do almost anything.
For your need of YouTube, that's covered - the HD acceleration has been incorporated into Alpha2 that I linked to you. The ability to play games, there's a lot of them out there for Android, and with a little searching, you can tweak your TP to be able to download and play more of them. As for office files, if you download any of the good Office Suites (they cost anywhere from 5-25 dollars), you can do mobile office work right on your tablet. I have all three from the Amazon AppStore - Documents to Go, OfficeSuite Pro, and QuickOffice. All three offer their perks, all three have their downsides, but all three work great for what I've had to do.
If you have questions about the install, feel free to drop me a PM - I'm more than happy to help walk you through what you need to do to get ICS installed on your TP. And since I've done it many, many times, I can almost walk you through it completely in my sleep.
Hopefully that answers some of your questions, mate. If not, as I said, ask away, and I'll try and help.

Well... it's now essentially dead... you aren't going to find much support lol. Nobody in their right mind is using CM7 still, unless you must absolutely have half-working Skype or something. Move up to CM9 bud, see if that doesn't fix things.

It'a an alpha, it's common to have problems. But why would you install a CM7 Alpha? Like that guy said, get on CM9. The camera still doesn't work, but to be honest, it wasn't really functional in CM7. Other than that, everything is MUCH better and more stable now.
If you are looking for a cheap method to work with Word documents you can use Google Docs. It is cloud storage but it will let you do the basic work on any device and then download it in Word format.
Any of the other listed apps do a great job as well. I got them all free on the Amazon App Store, they have a free app of the day. Once you get your tablet setup and in a good state look it up for freebies.
its a great tablet.

Euh i just want to say dont buy a ipad if you have a great tablet alrrady hp touchpad. Its the same size screen etc.. ipad is fun but sucks (because of no costumaziation android is and says fun) only thing i still dont like about TP is no hdmi out and no full usb host, but still better then ipad (doesnt have one of then also)
I had used webos for a long time downloaded al games for sites and afcors instaled preware i had i think about 10-15games 3d games like ashalt need for speed. Al for free. But after 2-4months it sucks and i instaled android and never rebooted webos again.
If you have CM7 Running, what you need to do is Download the CM9 files and gapps v11, then go to Clockwork recovery, wipe, flash files, and reboot. That will work beautifully. lol
If you insist on staying on CM7, then that is normal for some reason that it will boot when a charger or usb is connected (maybe even CM9). Even sometimes without it being connected, if you do a shutdown from within the OS, it will reboot and you have to select shut down from the moboot menu.

Unfortunately I'm on Hboot 1.15 and I just upgrade my Win 7 x86 to Win 8 x64 a couple of weeks ago. Other PC is Win 7 x64. I've heard that LP and DR work on Win 7 x64 but I don't want to mess it up and not be able to get help from Team Unlimited because I didn't follow instructions.
I tried an Ubuntu 12.10 Live Disc but can't seem to figure out where the terminal or other apps are hidden, and I don't want to do a full install alongside Windows just to unlock one phone. The install dialog for installing Ubuntu alongside Windows really suck BTW. It will only allow me to install on my external drive, even though it sees all my drives, and it doesn't tell you which part of the partitions it's making are for Ubuntu and what is for everything else. It just has a slider with a number on each side, nothing to tell you which side is going to be which partition.
Anywho, I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed that the awesome devs here on XDA are hard at work trying to create an s-off for the not quite so advanced (but not completely useless) users.

I can do it. I would just like to be able to do it without all the extra effort. As in, I'd like to be able to do it on Win 8 or Win 7 x64 and have it be supported by the devs.
Unless you mean that you can get terminal running on Ubuntu Live Disc. In that case, I'm sure I can do that too, I just got frustrated and didn't feel like busting out the Google-fu until I had actually gotten my phone activated. That's a whole different story involving Sprint, AmazonWireless.com, and the need to have a third phone to upgrade my new phone. Pain in the A, let me tell you. Finally got it activated today, so now I'm ready to start the Linux DirtyRacun process. I just don't want to. :crying:
Still, so there's no misunderstanding, I am very grateful to Team Unlimited for their dev work on this phone.
Now I have to figure out what I'm going to flash first, the Viper 4G rom or P.A.C. man. I love everything LOTK did for the OG Evo, but Viper looks so slick. Decisions, decisions.
What I really really want is PDroid working on this device.
I hate having to give apps the ability to read my contacts when I don't want to, but I still need to use the app.
PDroid lets you block this kind of stuff, without crashing the apps. How do we get it on here, or, better yet, built into a build like MeanBean etc. ?

Ok. I'll try it. I just dug out my old semi corrupted Win 7 x86 drive to see if out would boot properly, but I wasn't thrilled with the prospect of putting that in my new PC. I was thinking that it was that or Ubuntu, and better the evil you know than the one you don't. I haven't used Ubuntu in a couple years and Unity is completely different than the old gnome environment. I'm sure it's an improvement, but I didn't want to learn it all over again just to flash one phone.

Step 1. Plug the device in to your computer and uninstall any drivers that may load.
Step 2. Download and update the Android SDK, including the USB Driver or try the PDANet drivers.
Step 3. Add the following line to adb_usb.ini found in your user directory in the .android folder (e.g. C:\Users\YourName\.android\):
Code:
0x109b
If the file does not exist, simply create it. This may require a reboot
Step 4. Load up ADB and check connectivity through the following command:
Code:
adb devices
Step 5. If everything reported correctly in the previous step, run Motochop.

Looks like you were one of the lucky few who were able to purchase this little gem early. Congrats on that. I picked mine up today and I must say that it is probably the best $150 I've spent in a very long time. It's the happiest I've been with a gadget purchase since scoring a BNIB 32GB HP TouchPad for $99 during the firesale. With that said, I hope to see more people coming to the forum with interest in the device. We can only speculate, but I would imagine this low-price and feature rich tablet will get the attention of at least a few developers and we'll get more info then. As for what I have been able to obtain, I'm stuck at the same roadblock as you. I'm bumping this thread for further interest.
I agree. Best spent $150 in a long while. Seems just as fast as my gs4.
Only cons are the screen and bulk, but for the price its a steal!!!
Hopefully it gets support for updates from hisense or the great xda devs start playing with this beast.
Root for this is needed, stat !!!
I'm thinking to sell my Nexus 7 16gb and get this since it has the hdmi and microsd slot.
I'm sure XDA guys will make this device a beast, right?

I just picked one of these up on the way to work this morning. It is sitting on my desk charging as I am trying to get some work out of the way before I turn it on. I will be replacing a Kindle with this and just from eyeballing it my Kindle Seido case may be a perfect fit. I will test it tonight. It also appears that a Kindle screen protector will work for it as well. I would guess the Nexus 7 or other 7" protectors will work also, but I can use a ruler and verify the Kindle one since I already have that device.
Have you tried using the motochopper tool from djrbliss?

I would start with trying the root exploits that work on the Nexus 7 (Similar chip set?) and Android 4.2.
I don't have this tablet, so I have not tested to see if this does in fact work.
Random question, since this is the only thread about the Sero 7 Pro I've found.
How are the speakers? I have a Kindle Fire HD and I am pondering about the switch...
Also, can this support 64GB microSDs?
Also, I've heard reports of flawed Sero Pros popping up.
Does anyone have any firsthand experiences with how this tablet's holding up?
Thanks in advance!

The speakers a actually pretty loud. I was watching movies on it last night and was satisfied with the sound.
I saw some random comments (in the comments section) on various articles about this tablet but they all seem to be written by the same person based on the writing style and content.
Mine is holding up great. No issues at all and is as enjoyable as using my galaxy s4 but with a bigger screen. I'm testing out the battery today to see how long she lasts. If she lasts me the whole day of heavy use, she's a keeper.

How's the memory card compatibility?
64GB MicroSDs?
Add me to the list of buyers! Just got this about an hr ago. This is my 1st tablet and I must say this thing is nice. 15 days to decide to keep it or not. What root access.

The box states 32GB MSD. I only had a 16GB to stuff in it.
New owner here.
Did anyone else have to go to multiple stores only to deal with customer service that had no clue what you were looking for?
The first store I went to, they older guy was disgruntle I interrupted him, when I pressed him to do his job he couldn't spell Hisense.
Just picked up the Pro today, haven't opened it yet. As mentioned above, with the 15 days from Wally, I'll wait a bit to see if any devs pick it up. I have to say it does look like a terrific deal for the specs and if there is some XDA love for it, I'll give my GTab 2 to my wife.
I'll be searching this forum daily to see what shakes down.
@tharien,
First location I went to, walked in and went right to the display case, saw the Lite and Pro. Asked the nearest associate to open the case, checked out and left. Took less than 5 minutes.

Good to hear. I was also waiting to see if devs pick it up because I was looking for a tab for my wife and daughter. But don't want to hang them out with one that would be unsupported. Let us know how hdmi works as my wife would want that for work.

64GB microsdxc
I have a class 10 Sandisk 64GB microsdxc card in my sero 7 pro. It is not formatted as exFat since it came from a GS3 running a custom ROM.

I had to go to 2 different stores. The first store had a single 7 Pro Lite. The second store had 5-6 of both models.
I hope devs pick up this device too. Though I'll likely get one anyway...

As far as I know, this is a new Tablet. 7 inch Nvidia Terga3 1.3ghz quad core with 1gig of ram/8gb ROM. NFC, Bluetooth 3.0, 802.11a/b/g/n 2.4ghz and 5ghz, front and rear facing cameras, 5 and 2 megapixels respectively, GPS amd mini HDMI. Jelly Bean 4.2. It's a decent little tablet.
The trouble is getting it rooted. Recovery mode is attainable and I've only been able to pick up the serial number via ADB when attempting to update from ADB in recovery. Any other time, I get nothing. Any advice on how to proceed? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

How were you able to get feedback in recovery mode? I can't get ADB to see the device at all. I tried using the Nexu 7 ADB drivers as well as a raw set. I can only get Windows to see it, however that's an easy thing when forcing a driver.
I also tried fastboot - Windows sees it as the Nvidia tegra 3 Fastboot connection, so I'm starting to think we need the real driver from Hisense unless we can find a generic alternative.
Device Manager shows (! - M470BSA) and again under portable devices correctly as a media device.
The Vendor ID is 109B which comes back to Gemlight Computers Ltd which mfg USB for OEMs.
edit - Hisense does not have anything for this tablet on either their international site or their US site aside from a press kit.

I believe you're right about needing the ADB drivers from Hisense, hopefully over the next few days, it will materialize on their site. I guess they felt we needed to download their presskit instead of drivers or firmware.
Anyway, maybe it's worth trying Koush's Universal ADB drivers? Possibly one in the list will work with this.

Ok, I have been everywhere and looked through everything and keep running into a wall, hard. I am not new to rooting Android devices and am comfortable doing so without and issues. However, I recently lost access to my computer and most any other computer around me. I know there are a few apps out there that one can use on their android device (smart phone, tablet) that can root their device. However, I am unable to find them to use them.
I am coming to you good folks at XDA for assistance with this. Also, my tablet just recently, like 2 or 3 days ago, updated.
Any assistance with this would be great. I just hope someone can help me out with this.
I hope I posted this in the right spot. I say this because I also saw questions like this in a different area as well.
I hope this is not a big issue.
I've owned an A200 for close to a year and have never seen a root method anywhere that didn't require a PC. I think all the old 1 click apk files only work for Gingerbread. I hope you find something to work but it's not likely.

So far, from what I am seeing and have seen, I think you are right. And it kinda sucks.
OK, so how about this, what about using another android device to root? I have 2 other devices I could use. Just tossing the idea out there.
Anyone have a possible idea for this?
Something else I heard/read about is rooting through the recovery program on the tablet. Does anyone have any ideas if that would work and what I would need to have?
