Can someone tell me what I need to do to root my Xperia Neo 2.3.4 without getting the battery problem. Already experienced it once.

You will have to unlock the bootloader and then root via a custom kernel.
Are you sure, cause I can't unlock bootloader, sim lock to o2.
Yes.
There is however still this method for bootloader unlocking.

Firmware .62 won't root directly in locked bootloaders!
First downgrade to .42 by flashing the corresponding firmware and then root!
Afterwards do the OTA update!

Come on mate ! Don't spam !
You just need to unbrick it by flashing stock ftf !
For miui you must unlock your bl and flash miui kernel then install the rom That is alll

Neo L have MIUI official from MIUI Australia ! And yeah I used to flash MIUI ! One thing to say is it is require to flash MIUI kernel first !
Why you no unlock BL ? If not then don't use MIUI ! No way for LOCK BL to use MIUI

If you are installing a custom ROM, have you flashed the kernel? Do you have unlocked the bootloader?

Not necessarily!
It could be cos he forgot some wipes
It could be low system partition memory too
In addition to what you mentioned
So better if we let him clarify things first than just random guessing
