Rogers (Canada) has just posted on their own discussion board that KK update will be available next Tuesday (March 25).
As far as I know, it's the first time the D803 is updated.
Now, we just need to figure out how to root this one!

I for one am shocked that it actually will be delivered, as they said, before the end of March. But after lurking these forums it makes me wonder if a few of these bugs will be patched up before Rogers and LG Canada send out the release. Will it be an OTA? or how T-mobile did it with the LG Mobile support tool?
IF its an OTA, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well and I will not lose root. Are there any multi variant root methods out as of yet?
Finally

I guess lg is getting better at updates, this is a step in the right direction.
Quick question: I'm using a D803 which I purchased unlocked and it's working fine on Telus. Just had to enter the APN manually. There is no Rogers bloatware. Not rooted. What's my best course of action to upgrade to Kit Kat (other than rooting, which I've done on several other phones but not ready to do it on this one yet)?

What do you mean root this one? There's no root for any g2 kit Kat. There's kdz way to keep root and that's we'll all get. Some have reported keeping root with Ota but I suspect new bootloader still gets updated this way, so if you ever loose root, bye bye. Don't keep your hopes up that new bootloader will be hacked somehow, if you proceed with full update without preserving old booloader (no going back after), so be smart and prepare ahead.
We have to submit our kernel for patching asap, so we can use custom recovery with old bootloader.

Just wondering, if I were to go buy a LG G3 from VZW today what would I need to look for to ensure the phone is capable of being rooted?
So far IORoot works up to 4.4.2, does this mean any 4.4.2 build or only if it's a specific build number (10b?)
Then I saw stump root, I couldn't find any information on what builds this was capable of rooting up to.
Sorry this is kind of a noon question I just want to cover my bases if I'm going to drop 300 bucks.

Yeah I'd like to know the same but j want to use stump. I know you can downgrade from 11 to 10 and then use stump but I wonder if there are different builds out now that can't be downgraded
11C is the latest build. So, you should be good to go, no matter what.
Yep! You'll be just fine! The only 2 software versions out now are the original 10B, and the 11C update that cane out several weeks ago. If the phone comes out of the box with 10B, all is great! Otherwise, if it comes with 11C, you'll need to downgrade back to 10B using the .kdz method (search in the forums here you'll find it), and then use stump once you're back on 10B. Make sure you then don't forget to freeze the system updates .apk and don't take any future OTA's (update manually via bump - twrp)!!

I have an 11C build, and 'adb reboot recovery' does not go into recovery, and Stump v1.2 says 'device is patched sorry'. I got my VS985 earlier this month, and I guess 11C is relatively new. Any idea how 11C can be rooted, or do I hold my breath a while until someone comes up with a newer rooter? Thanks in advance for any leads.

I guess I should have known to be more specific. When I said you're good to go, I meant that's because 11C can be rolled back to 10B, and then you can Stump and Bump. Silly me, thinking people might actually do some research.

I actually did understand the 10B requirement in this thread, this being one that came up looking for a Googled answer, so I've changed my subtitle. I have had no experience with changing ROMs/etc. as a first step, only dong a root to gain better access for utilities I had purchased like Titanium Backup. My first phones through Virgin Mobile, an Optimus G and a Samsung S II were rootable without going back-level. Do you think that Verizon's 11C is a full dead-stop for direct rooting the LG G3, or might it be cracked in the next month or so?

there is no way to estimate these things. its not like building a program, where you could estimate how long it might take based on past progress. they are basically digging through code, looking for something they can exploit.
and to top it off, the team responsible for most (possibly all, im not sure) of the exploits for this phone to date, walked away earlier, after another user publicly posted their private work. so i wouldnt hold my breath waiting.

You can bet it will be essentially unrootable, so if that matters to you don't take the OTA.

So what's the point of taking an un-rootable ota? I guess to run the stock firmware minus root?

Downloading the OTA and saving it is good, installing it, not so much. Downloaded source, will see what I can do with it this weekend as far as building a rom from it. Once the OTA drops we can separate the partitions for flashable zips and all that.
It would be truly fun to build stock from source. I've never actually tried that, and I don't know if the source provided will actually be enough to do it

You can't root if you have zv6 iirc. So you have to flash zv4then root your phone. After that you can unlock the boot loader with bump. Last if you want install zv6 here or any rom that is out for LS900.
Someone correct me if I forgot anything >.<

I've recently switched the G3 but using it on straight talk so root actually helped me get rid of the "unknown sim" icon. It looks like theres no root for Lollipop yet so im wondering if it would be worth upgrading to lollipop now or waiting for OTA and hoping root is figured out by then

The OTA that's out is definitely not official. And yes, no root. Not sure if there ever WILL be a root for the official OTA once it comes out since it has to be done by an exploit, and LP has made exploits even harder to find.
I myself am staying on KK. I must have root for Titanium Backup. That's basically all I have root for and without it, I cannot restore my app settings, so until a root exploit is found for the official OTA (once it comes out), then I'll go to Lollipop possibly. But even with the current unofficial OTA, there are various issues with LP.
Might want to wait until 5.1 (if we ever get it for the G3) comes out as 5.0.1 still have a major memory leak in it.

Yup. Just saw that. That's good, but maybe not that good. How much you want to bet that exploit gets patched before the official OTA comes out?
Really wish they would have waited for the official OTA to come out before releasing the exploit.

If it works anything like the other GS4's than you will need to flash a pre-rooted lollipop build using Flashfire (or safestrap, but you probably won't be able to access safestrap after flashing lollipop).
I always just followed the directions posted by muniz_ri in the [How-To] root thread in this forum. I guess stay tuned! I didn't use safestrap cause I thought we couldn't.

like in the next few days from what i can tell. verizon always does their rollouts like this.
Well, crap. I really really want this update. But no xposed for lollipop touchwiz, no custom ROMs, no deodex, and a one time shot at the root method really kills it for me.

Yeah, if you're rooted, on whatever bootloader, best to wait and give these guys time to do what it is we're all for. If this is anything like the other carriers, or past OTAs (especially ones since 4.3) you'll b sorry if u get impatient.

i could use 3 testers to try the root method created on the t-mo note 7. just adjusted for at&t - as i don't have at&t i can't test it so i need some help from you guys.
i am currently uploading the files but first 3 to pm me i will send links and full guide to so you can test it as soon as the uploads are done. if it works. i'll post guide for you guys to enjoy.
