I just bought a Tablet Z 32GB WIFI version model SGP312 from Hong Kong. The stock firmware version is 10.1.C.0.344.
It seems to me the touchscreen is very sensitive. E.g. when I am scrolling in Google play, it often "register" my finger motion as a touch and opens up the apps. When in Google Chrome, when scrolling a webpage, it will something zoom in, or open up new links instead.
It makes the tablet almost unusable. Anyone having similar issues. I read from this forum link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2289978 the following"10.1.C.0.353
Released on 8 May
Touch responsiveness improved."
However, I tried using Flashtool to update the newer firmware (I've unlock my tablet's bootloader) but it doenst flash at all, no error messages.
Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Yes, mine is oversensitive, too. Same Firmware as you, unrooted, untouched firmware.
I will send it back anyway because additionally the screen is too yellow, the headphone protection is not firmly in place, video playback from SMB is stuttering, YouTube has out of sync problems, and the USB port isn't able to power my external disk (something my other tablets do without problems).
This device is seriously overrated; I think the reviewers are kind of dazzled by the thinness and low weight and thus too willing to overlook the weaknesses.

Youtube works fine with mine, and you can pull the pre-installed screen protector out and replace with an after-market one, thats should take care of the yellowish, and by external disk you mean the portable one?

Do you mean the protective layer that is there to protect it during transit or is there an additional screen protector pre-installed?

After you pulled off the matte protective layer, there's another pre-installed screen protector, its causes the yellowish and fingerprint - magnet, pull it off and replace with after market screen protector

Thanks! I will give it a shot today. Does it come off easily? Coz it wasn't apparent there is a screen protector, I am guessing it's not that easy to remove.

You should prepare another screen-protector to put in after u pull the pre-installed one off. AND YES, its hard to pull off, super sticky so be careful not to scratch your screen

Oh crap, I wonder if its a shatter proof film and if its such a good idea to remove it then.I don't have a replacement for sure! But I'd definitely love to get rid of the yellowish tint.
Thanks again!

Anytime, it is a shattered proof film, but thats film mean to protect you, not the screen, its contains glass fragments in case the screen get broken, so feel free to pull it off and buy a replacement one on amazon, i did the same to my xperia z phone as well, the pre-installed film attracts alot of dust, and fingerprints magnet.

My new screen protector arrive today, i will update you when i pull the pre-installed off, but on my xperia z phone, the logo didn't come off when i pulled off the pre-installed screen protector
Start from the corner using a pin and tap some water on it, be careful not to scratch the screen, once the corner peel off a bit the rest should be easy

does this fix the problem or improve it ? and is it still waterproof? maybe its on there for that reason ?
I searched the forums and no one has answered this question! I'm coming from a Samsung Note (1 and 8) and I love the fact I can write on the device. I've got a ton of notes I've taken over time it has replaced most of my notepads. I'm hoping this device is as intuitive as the Note series. Can anyone comment that does indeed do a lot of writing on the Ultra Z?
Thanks!

nope...
With the new firmware (2.257) you can use pen and pencil, or any metalic object (previous firmwares were touch and go).
But you'll have to put a screen protector on it, or you're gonna wreck your device's screen. What ever metalic object you use, will leave small scratches on it
Like Ham says, get a screen protector and you're good to go

Maybe I didn't phrase the question properly. I don't actually own the Xperia Z Ultra. That being said I have and had owned a couple of Samsung Note devices. I used the pen for note taking and sketching extensively. I guess the Xperia Z Ultra is not the device I had imagined. I liked the fact that I was not tied down to a stylus. I could use a pencil. So basically I want to replace my Samsung Note but still want the note/sketching function.

I have used a stainless steel knitting needle (round tip) and has done very well at writing. Like you I was a Galaxy Note user, and often would use the S-pen for accurate drawing etc. But the fact that there is no place to store a stylus type object really stops me from using one. perhaps a cover that has one build in... although I don't use cases.

You can use pens and pencils, but the only thing you should be aware of is that there's a factory mounted shatter proof screen protector on the front and back, and being plastic, it'll scratch when you use pencils on it. You can either remove the protector and draw directly on the glass (and eliminate the danger of scratching it), or you can buy another screen protector and set it on top of the factory one. That one will also scratch in the long run (like any screen protector), but you can easily swap it out. The factory protector is a ***** to remove (or so i've read).
Writing on ZU is nothing compare to Note series, as pencil is not active pen, you do not have wrist protection on any Note app. The Note taking app from Sony is also very poor. The only note app that I found useful is AntipaperNote : have multi page, zoom function, wrist protection (but not work on ZU), cloud server etc.. but the support from developer is awful (they claim that I can retrieve activation if I change to other devide, but actually I can not, and end up buying it AGAIN >.<
Drawing on ZU is better, but I still miss the wrist protection very much
Oh believe me when I say this. If you're coming from any of the Note devices, you'll curse yourself for buying the Ultra.

@jerdog posted this video earlier. Anyone else notice this with either their Xperia ZU or their ZU GPE?
I checked mine and it seems to not be as bad as jerdog's . On mine it seems to only happen when I press one particular spot on the screen
WHY did you have to show me this? I just checked by opening a black image in Chrome, and it does happen in one spot if i push hard. Looks like a part of the LED "feels the pressure".
Edit: Oh, also, the Z Ultra uses a "zero gap" display, which means that the LCD panel and the glass is one part, so by pushing the glass down, we also push the LCD panel down.

Yes, Sir. I read it somewhere on the Sony blog or whatever. You can easily see this yourself by holding your finger straight down on the screen while it's on. It'll look like you're touching the piuxels and not the glass (which looks to be really really thin)

Yeah similar with mine. But it is more pronounced in the left and right of the screen about 2/3 from the bottom of the phone. Not a problem i guess.. But that just shows you how sensitive the display is and might need some extra care for not putting too much force on it.

Yup, it doesn't surprise me, being an LCD display, but it's only noticeable if i press much harder than i'd usually press, so it won't even be noticeable under normal (human) usage.
Hey guys, I've searched here and Google and all I seem to find is mostly threads about removing the anti-shatter film but I'm looking to remove and replace the screen as it's cracked. The display behind the cracks looks ok but it's not responsive.
I was just wondering if there are any good teardown videos or guides anyone has bookmarked or whatever so I can see whether it has to removed by removing everything from the back or by just using heat to the screen adhesive and removing from the front.
Thanks.
No one got anything at all?

I recently traded for a z ultra gpe that has already been updated to 5.0 lollipop. Problem is I don't think i have the pen mode which is one of the features I got this phone for. I previously had an xperia z1 and installed the pen mode .apk so I tried to do the same for my ultra. Unfortunately the pen mode doesn't activate, probably because this phone is not rooted? Can someone help me get pen mode poppin' on my Z ultra? Thanks
Pen mode on the zu is built in, and should just work. You can't use too fine a pen though
I was hoping this was the case but it certainly is not. My screen does not respond to any pen or pencil. Does anyone else have this same problem?
