[MJ9 LOCKED BL][AlPHA]SafeStrap 3.7.1-v1[i605] - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Please Read all OP before proceeding as this is an Alpha Build
The following is Hashcode's OP just edited for our device as is Safestrap so all credit goes to Hashcode for his amazing app!

*** DISCLAIMER ***
I work on projects that may brick your device. Don't sue me, hate me or try and kill my dog if that happens. I will feel bad the community will feel bad and hopefully we'll find a way to get you going again. But, the very nature of my projects involves a certain amount of risk taken by YOU. And by using the projects that I work on, you've accepted that fact.
CURRENTLY THERE IS AN UNKNOWN ISSUE WHERE IF YOU HAVE ENCRYPTION ENABLED AND INSTALL SS IT BOOTLOOPS. IF YOU FIT THIS DESCRIPTION PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM SAFESTRAP FOR NOW.
CURRENT PROJECT STATUS:
v3.71: Debugging some rom-slot issues (can't create any atm)
WHAT IS SAFESTRAP?
Safestrap is a Bootstrap / Recovery for locked bootloader phones. The goal is to avoid touching your primary system (I'll call this "stock" system) and only flash or make large changes to another place on your phone that Safestrap treats as a "2nd system" (in this case, it's a series of virtual ROM slots located on the internal emmc area: "/sdcard"). Once installed, you will see a "Splashscreen" giving you the option to hit "menu" to enter recovery. The recovery portion of Safestrap is now based on TWRP 2.7.0.0 (a touch based recovery) and you can perform .zip installs, backups and restores here. The additional features I've added to TWRP are mostly located under the "Boot Options" menu:
Here you can create virtual ROM-slots (2 on the Note 2 due to partition size and internal space) for flashing ROMs. These ROM-slots allow for 3 different sizes of /data partitions: 1GB, 2GB and 3GB. NOTE: The bigger you make the /data partition the less room you will have to make other ROM-slots.
You can activate a new ROM-slot by choosing the slot you wish to make active and then selecting the "Activate" button. Once active, you will see the "rom-slot#" up in the top of the screen shown in green. If you make the "stock" ROM active, then you can see it in the top shown in red.
Once a ROM-slot is active, all actions you would normally perform using TWRP are directed to that ROM-slot. For example, "Install" to flash a .zip, backup and restore.
For more information you can read up here:
http://blog.hash-of-codes.com/how-to-safestrap/
HOW DO I INSTALL SAFESTRAP?
Requirement: Root
Requirement: Allow APK install from Unknown Sources
Download the Safestrap APK
Find the APK using a Filemanager tool and open it on your device, then click "Install".
(If updating from an existing Safestrap you might be warned that this will over-write the existing installation. Click the "Yes" equivalent to this message.)
Once installed, open up the Safestrap application as you would any other app.
Agree to the disclaimer that you won't try to sue me and hunt me down with a rifle if you manage to break your phone..
Then use the "Install Recovery" button. You should see the current version down in the lower left corner of the window. And the "Status:" should say "Installed" when you're done.
From there you can reboot and you *should* see a new splash screen during the boot up. While this is showing you can enter Safestrap Recovery using the [ menu ] button.
That's it for the installation! Read below for a brief overview of Safestrap Recovery v3.x
HOW DO I ENTER RECOVERY?
During each reboot a splashscreen will be displayed showing whether the device is running a rom-slot or on the "Stock ROM".
Press under the button shown on the screen to either enter "RECOVERY" or "CONTINUE" booting.
By "under", I mean on the touch key portion of the front display on either side of the center button.
DOWNLOADS:
CONFIRM THAT YOU ARE USING A VERIZON WIRELESS SAMSUNG GALAXY S NOTE 2
FOR USERS OF MJ9:
USE 3.71+:BETA Safestrap-t00ltevzw-3.71.apk (updated 2014-3-24)
only Mirror = SafeStrap v1
Bugs
1. Can't create Rom Slots
2, This is just an Alpha build for those who want to replace the Stock rom; must modify rom to not install boot.img because then you will have to flash back to stock.
Example of modification needed to for rom to work
Example i used the N3bula rom
1. unzip rom and go to the updater-script and aroma-config
2. compare these 2 files aroma-config and updater-script with the original files and you'll see what i removed in order to make it work.
ALSO DOWNLOAD THE KERNEL MODULES .ZIP THAT MATCHES YOUR BUILD # (FLASH THIS AFTER ROMS):
None needed at the moment.
HOW TO MANUALLY REMOVE SAFESTRAP:
[ INSTRUCTIONS ONLY FOR v3.65. REMOVE VIA APK FOR v3.70+ ]
Enter adb shell from your pc:
Code:
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
mv /system/etc/init.qcom.modem_links.sh.bin /system/etc/init.qcom.modem_links.sh
rm -rf /system/etc/safestrap
rm /system/etc/firmware/q6.mdt
ln -s /firmware/image/q6.mdt /system/etc/firmware/q6.mdt
mount -o remount,ro /system
As of version 3.7x, Safestrap Recovery is now based on TWRP 2.7.0.x. For more on TWRP you can visit their website: http://www.teamw.in/
WARNING: Safestrap is heavily modified to be "Safe" for your device. Do not download TWRP from their website and expect it to work the same way. Also TWRP does not support Safestrap, tho some issues that may come up will be TWRP dependant, please try and contact myself or look on the forums for your device for answers before hunting down TWRP people. They won't be able to help w/ Safestrap specific questions.
For the purposes of direct user testing I've established a channel on freenode.net IRC: #safestrap
I'm in the channel mostly all the time, but may not be active for discussion.

Great job.

Awesome news! Excited to see this grow.

Lol just make sure you read up its an alpha build and rom slots are not available right now you can only flash over stock rom and no kernels can be flashed.

I flashed like 3 or 4 touch wiz roms. It's safe to say all 4.3 touch wiz roms are good to go

Excellent work. Will be great when it goes to official and final. Many people are stuck with these replacement phones under fort knox

There's a possible downgrade method but requires shorting resistors

Will probably play with this tonight I can't wait. My girlfriend is going to go back to hating me again lol. Also, for instance if I flash N3bula will everything work normally doing it through safestrap as long as I modify the zip like we should? There are no other problems?

I'm gonna test it as soon as I get my hands on a micro sd sd adapter.
I'm not home atm but I will get the rom names for you when I get home friday. Also if anyone has any problems/questions you can pm me

You are amazing I never though I would see a custom rom on my phone again after I got my replacment back from Samsung.

I just picked up micro SD to SD adapter. I will be testing the unbricker downgrade method this weekend

[S-Off] Recovery Flashable Recovery Installer

Flash any Recovery .img File From Recovery
Snuzzo has asked me to post this recovery flashing tool. It will let you insert any recovery that you use (must me the .img file) into the zip with 7 zip and then have a flashable recovery installer.
This eliminates the need to fastboot flash recovery and makes changing back and fourth between them really easy.
THIS IS DEVICE SPECIFIC, ONLY USE ON DNA
NOTE: Make sure to name the file recovery.img
Instructions:
1.) Place the recovery.img of your choice into the folder named "recovery" (Hint: It Says "put.recovery.img.here" in the folder where it goes)
2.) Place the zip onto your sdcard
3.) Boot to recovery and flash the zip file
4.) Device will reboot, reboot manually if using TWRP and auto reboot doesn't work
This is snuzzos work not my own, I'm only posting it for him.

Nice work, but man I hate to see scripts written with dd of= hardcoded to an emmc partition. And to top it off there no assert to check device model.
So...if someone runs this on the wrong device...it will permabrick them.

Thanks for this guys - I have included both of the latest recoveries already in the zips for the lazy people
Here is a flashable zip I created with Zarboz Unofficial TWRP 2.5 Beastmode 5.1 Recovery

MD5: 352b654194cc2b442f7b9f995e99ea90
Flashed and when in recorery it still indicates 2.4.4 at the top of the screen, should it be 2.5.0?
Hello, anybody home?
Yeah I need to make a zip with the update zarboz did that changes the version number. I'll do it shortly.

[Q] cant install RLS 6 Hyperdrive in my s4

when i install RLS 6 hyperdrive my phone starts fine but after one minute it restarts and again turns again on works fine for 30 seconds and again restart help!!!!
When posting something like this its good to know the beforehand so people know what led up to this. Did you wipe? What recovery you using? Did you follow the install instructions word for word?
SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
A couple of possibilities:
Make sure you wipe per the dev's recommendations prior to flashing.
Try installing with minimal mods and see if you can get it to boot. Once you flash, you can always dirty flash the same installer and pick a couple additional mods and see what's causing the issue. Some people noted they were having problems with the Walkman mod causing bootloops.
Check the MD5 of your download against what is in the OP. If you downloaded to PC then copied to SD card, check that the MD5 on the card matches that on the PC and what's online (some people had problems where the file was corrupted during transfer to phone).
Also making sure you have one of the most recent recoveries is a good thing to check. I believe I used TWRP 2.6.0.0 and it worked fine for me.
Finally, try using the stock kernel instead of stock optimized or a third party kernel. I can use stock or stock optimized, for example, but when I flash faux it bootloops about 80% of the time on my phone.
There is a good bit of info about the bootlooping issue on RLS6 in the original Hyperdrive thread. Start on page 472 and read on from there.

Did you flash with twrp or cwm. Theres been a few people reporting bootloops when wiping/flashing with twrp. If so you might want to try cwm. Have been using cwm since the DX was the "it" phone. Got it on 4 devices now and have never had a single problem with it.

Good to know. I believe that I followed the dev instructions as well.
One time my uncle was over and I was telling him about a marital concern. He told me that I should probably not do what I had been doing and that there was probably a better way. I listened to him and life has been better. Life is full of choices.

I agree, like I said have been using it on multiple devices, for close to 3 years now and have never had a single problem. Tried out twrp a few weeks ago and didnt like it to much. To each his own though

I have also been having difficulty with both bootloops and the phone freezing on the Samsung image and not booting past this point.
I did a full wipe including data with Twrp. After multiple attempts I'm considering switching to CWM. My question is how to I install CWM on a device without a functioning rom?
Does this require flashing back to stock with odin or is there an easier way?

You can flash CWM from within TWRP, just use ADB to copy the zip file onto your phone then flash, or alternatively you can use fastboot to flash a new recovery directly to the phone. Neither method needs a working ROM to accomplish.

[Q] Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 - ODIN "could not do normal boot"

I have rooted my GS4 successfully, but upon attempting to flash the ClockworkMod Recovery I have run into an issue. When I attempt to go into the recovery mode for a split second it flashes the blue legend in the top left of the screen but then immediately goes into ODIN mode and reads in red text: "could not do normal boot." No matter what I try I cannot seem to get past this issue. I have also attempted to use the loki method where you run the terminal emulator on the phone and attempt to run the program through that but it keeps reading an error message with something along the lines of "does not match build." I'm a little stuck and cannot figure out what is going wrong with any of these methods I have tried.

If you're not on MDK then you can't install a custom recovery. Your only option is Safestrap. Find your build number then research as much as possible before you brick your phone.

Forgive my ignorance, but what do you mean by "TW based"? I did just look up how to do the flashing via Safestrap and the demo the guy did ran successfully for the Hyperdrive mod, but I am curious as to whether or not I can use this to flash the Gummy 4.4 ROM that has recently come out.

probably not, the lockdown on the bootloader may never be cracked.
Well with safe strap, I found that you are able to flash ROMs for my build by tricking the system into running multiple slots so that it doesn't mess with the actual system files. So if it's running on a separate slot to run a ROM such as Hyperdrive then shouldn't it able to run any other kind of ROM running on the same principle of a "ghost" slot?

Not really sure what you mean by "tricking the system", but if you think you can run any ROM, give it a shot and let us know. It would be a major breakthrough.

What I mean is that the way safe strap works is by running a different port instead of modifying the way original system ROM. Picture like a computer with multiple USB ports. The new ROM is like a USB thumb drive. You plug it in to run your program (in this case the new ROM) without actually modifying the system info. It's like a virtual port so as to not modify system data. I'm not sure if there are ROMs that won't work because they are not TouchWiz based. Any thoughts?

That's not how Safestrap works.
Safestrap basically allows the phone to boot, then just before the stock ROM begins executing start-up programs, it intervenes, mounts the ROM slot over the top of the original ROM (technically, it loopback mounts it and uses chroot() to make the mounted ROM the root file system).
Once the slot is loaded, the start-up scripts in that slot are allowed to run.
The Android Kernel that's used to run the slot is the stock kernel, so you can only run ROMs that will boot with the stock kernel.
The AOSP and CM ROMs have not been ported to the TouchWiz kernel, so they can't run on a Safestrap device.
And we can't change the kernel because the bootloader is locked and prohibits that. (Except for the MDK bootloader, which can be bypassed.)

Well you're in the Verizon i545 forum not the i9505 but that's OK !
Id suggest re down loading your proper Odin file... Do you know what build your phone was on? although it doesn't matter much for you since your phones bootloader isn't locked... Just good practice to know.
If you're still having issues with Odin I'd say update your USB drivers on your computer and possibly trying another USB cable.
After you get through Odin you can just use Chainfire to root your phone.. I can link you to it if you need..
Then you can Odin an updated recovery on your phone which by the way.... Would have taken care of those recovery errors you were getting.
Your phone is quite easy to deal with. You'll do all these things through Odin.

basic research would tell you the prospects of finding an exploit to unlock the S4 locked bootloader is extremely unlikely...

OK. Now you put that Odin tar file into the PDA/AP slot . make sure repartition is NOT checked out and once that file loads into Odin you should be good to hit start.
There are walk thrust and YouTube videos on how to do this. Maybe you should Google it so you don't make any mistakes that could screw up your phone

How I downgraded from NC5 OTA to MK2 and back to Rooted NC5!!! Complete Step-By-Step

**********************MK2 and Newer Firmware Only*******************************
I'm back I have had time to totally rework the process. I have attached a PDF that contains the instructions as well as I link to all the files you will need.
All I ask if that if you have a problem with the process post or PM me if you dont think the instructions are clear enough please PM me so I can get it resolved first.
I have uploaded all the files that you will need and put them all in one place.
Added Screenshots of what to put in Odin!!!
Instead of using the rooted NC5 rom towards the end of the process, can I just use some other NC5 rom like HD16?
I haven't tested it yet with hd16. I would use the nc5 rooted and then make a backup in safestrap. So you can go back and forth.

Good call... I'm about to start now, just downloaded everything. Thanks!
Your welcome let me know how everything works out.

Made my first error on the first step... Quick notes for first timers so far::
- push UP to get in to download mode
- ODIN will not recognize your com port until you do so.
- Make sure that re-partition IS checked when you're flashing the first PIT file(the image in the pdf shows it unchecked so that's what I did)
- Whoa, totally missed when the phone turned itself off to reboot and was stuck at the Verizon logo. Unplugged phone and pulled battery then powered and pressed up to get in to recovery to wipe data/factory reset
I'll keep updating this post as I make more mistakes lol
Down went to download mode for me and your right but the image was blank without files. Just to show the version.

Once you pit the pit file and the other files the repartition should be automatically checked. Also up should go to recovery.

Yep, I'm on 4.3 now, going through saferoot... I clicked 'yes' on accept but I don't see it doing anything. Been sitting here for about 5 min. Going to unplug and re-plug and start saferoot again. I have my phone connected as a camera as suggested.
edit:: That worked in about 2 seconds
Installed recovery with safestrap, now installing stock rooted NC5 rom.
flashing last file (csc), phone rebooted and installing something and went directly in to recovery now. Just hit reboot and that worked.
humm... stuck at the red verizon logo now... been on here for a few min.
Really dumb question... I don't see any option to select slots or anything like that. I know that I can't select any different slots but it just flat out wasn't an option to pick where to install the rom.
Edit:: Well... that was weird. I was stuck at the Verizon logo so I went back in to SS Recovery and flashed HD16 and that worked (made sure to flash SU before rebooting). Everything is working now.
THANK YOU!!!

I didn't think so, I just didn't see any option mentioning slots of any sort.
3.72 only recognizes stock slot. Other slots don't work at this time

worked like a charm
worked like a charm thank you for putting this together! very appreciated.
my only comments would be the aroma installer things. i was familiar with safestrap and aroma and such but to some new android rom people might get mixed up with how to use safestrap and then get mixed up with aroma as well.
AWESOME!!!!!
ok I got the 32gb version and was worried this wouldn't work but sure enough it has and I'm back to jelly bean and my 32gbs all show up.:victory::laugh::good::cyclops:
Worked like a charm got full root an now all my root apps I have are working flawlessly also if you have the 32gb version of this phone these files work fine and all the space shows up and accesses fine.
BIG THANK YOU TO TECH GUY FOR THIS!!!!!!!111!!!!!111!!!111!11 YOU'RE AWESOME IN MY BOOK!!!!1111!!!!111!!!1!!!1
So in this method there is only a stock slot available via safestrap? Is it safe to override this slot? If I wait will there be a better method?
Sorry if these are noob questions

Might be a dumb question, but
If I have a MK2 and a NC5 nandroid backup from using safestrap can you go back and fourth between 4.3 and 4.4.2 by simply restoring your backups?
As far as I know that wouldn't be possible

Great method and instructions
Thanks for posting your instructions. Other than a few of my own mis-steps this worked perfectly. Is it now possible to try other ROM's? If so, any tips to avoid problems?
I am running hyper drive 16.1. It's important you backup the roms in safestrap. I have the rooted rom and hyper drive on the same sd card and just alternate between the two by restoring.

[ROM][SS & UL][4.4.4] Stock Rooted Vzw 212.55.26

*** DISCLAIMER ***
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU MESS UP YOUR PHONE! OR IF YOU LOSE ANY DATA, ITS CALLED BACK IT UP BEFORE HAND!
Word to the wise if you don't know how to use RSDLite or Fastboot to restore your phone then leave this thread now please! I will not attempt to simplify this down anymore. Safestrap users you need to backup everything on your internal storage before you install this, to switch back to 4.2.2 possibly 4.4/4.4.2 you will have to RSD back to stock. This ROM has to be flashed to the STOCK SLOT in Safestrap and the 4.4.4 KitKat Kernel and Baseband has to be flashed for it to work. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!
Okay this is a stock unmodified(3c_ota.apk is the only apk removed) rooted rom based off of the 4.4.4 KitKat SBF thanks to SamuriHL with full Safestrap functionality. You will need to have the phone's drivers installed to get this working, so click the link below to download them and install them before you start. https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_detail/a_id/94931/p/30,6720,8696
Instructions to install this rom for Safestrap Users, you will need to download the ROM and my Kernel/Radio Flashing Utility, and read every step before you start...
1. Before you do anything you need to be rooted on 4.2.2 or 4.4, write protection disabled with MotoWpNoMo and Safestrap Recovery installed
2. Reboot into Safestrap Recovery
3. Factory Reset the STOCK SLOT(do not ask about another slot) in Safestrap, also DO NOT wipe or manually mount the /system it can cause symlink errors
4. Flash my ROM zip to the STOCK SLOT (this will take a couple minutes, go grab a drink or something)
5. Once the ROM has finished flashing, press the home button, then press the reboot button, then press the bootloader button to reboot to the bootloader from within Safestrap
6. Plug up your Moto X via usb cable to your computer, once plugged in the Bootloader screen should say usb connected now
7. Unzip the "Moto X Kernel and Radio Flasher.zip"
8. Open the extracted folder and find FlashMyMotoX.bat and double click on it
9. Choose option 10 within the FlashMyMotoX utility to flash the 4.4.4 KitKat Kernel
10. Once it finishes get back to the options and choose option 11 this will flash the 4.4.4 KitKat Baseband
11. Once it finishes successfully unplug your usb cable and reboot the phone
12. Enjoy 4.4.4 KitKat!
For Unlocked Users
1. Boot into TWRP 2.7.1.1 (recommended that's what I use) factory reset DO NOT wipe or manually mount the /system it can cause symlink errors, then install the ROM.
2. If you were on 4.4.4 already then reboot and enjoy if you aren't on 4.4.4 then continue to step 9.
3. Once done installing reboot to the bootloader from within TWRP.
4. Once on the bootloader screen plug your usb cable into your Moto X the screen should say usb connected.
5. Unzip the "Moto X Kernel and Radio Flasher.zip"
6. Open the extracted folder and find FlashMyMotoX.bat and double click on it
7. Choose option 11 within the FlashMyMotoX utility to flash the 4.4.4 KitKat Baseband
8. Once it finishes successfully unplug your usb cable and reboot the phone
9. Enjoy 4.4.4!

Thanks to Google for Android and their Search engine, Hashcode for Safestrap, jcase for his roots, beaups and fuses for MotoWpNoMo, TeamWin for TWRP 2.7.1.1, and the Chinese middle man for my bootloader unlock without them this wouldn't be possible!

Awesome job! Much thanks!
"Are you asking about the stock version? The entitlement hack will be in my updated version of Krypton but not in my stock 4.4.4 rom. All you have to do is add net.tethering.noprovisioning=true to the build.prop before you flash the rom, and that will bypass the entitlement check."
Does it matter where I add this in the build prop?
Hey kryptonite, FYI titanium back says I have no root, even tho I do. Any suggestions?

Nah it shouldn't, I normally just add all my lines in the section near the top, up under the device info properties.

What in the world, I wonder why titanium is trying to call /system/bin/su instead of /system/xbin/su hmm. Are you unlocked or safestrapped?

Hmm I just looked through TB's settings to see if there was a setting to set where su is called from but I couldn't find any. Try flashing SuperSU's zip and see if that clears up the problem. If it doesn't try uninstalling TB and reinstalling it.

4.4.4 running very well so far with newer radio flashed. Will your 005 kernel be worth a shot or would it not be a good idea on 4.4.4?
Been running this for about six now, with no complaints what so ever no the old radio, anyone notice a difference enough to flash?

I actually haven't tried, Moto dropped the kernel source I've just got to sync the repo and add my changes.

Seems about the same to me signal strength wise, but calls seem clearer may be a placebo affect though.
