Hello Everybody,
my boss got me a Galaxy ACE S5830i in order to test some app development and I immediately managed to root it and install a custom ROM.
These were the steps I took
1- I flashed the update.zip I found around the web, for example here -> http://www.theandroidroot.com/root-install-cwm-recovery-samsung-galaxy-ace-s5830i/
2- I flashed CWM 5.0 and immediately, without rebooting, saw the new Recovery. So it really did install!
3- I updated to CWM 6
4- I flashed thunder kernel in order to make the CWM permanent -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335947
5- I rebooted the phone in recovery mode and got the CWM. Everything was fine up to now
6- I flashed a ROM (after wiping everything). Actually, several roms. I tried first with CGM, then with Aroma and Retribution Beta. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1806471 All of them managed to install but none of them works. What ALWAYS happens is that the ROM installs, then I reboot and the phone does not go past the Samsung Logo. Then, and here we come to the weirdest part, when I reboot in recovery mode in order to flash another rom... I get the stock recovery! No CWM, no customizations!
What's happening, in your opinion? I tried to flash a custom ROM with Odin as well, but being on Linux I had to use JOdin and could not manage to flash anything because (as it ALWAYS happens with JOdin) I was not able to load a suitable PIT file. No success with wine+odin as well.
Please, could somebody help me? I can't use my boss phone, and can't return it to him until I get a working ROM on it
Thank you in advance
P.S. When I get to the Recovery I see some rows to the bottom:
-- Appling Multi-CSC --
E:failed to mount /system (Invalid argument)
E:failed to mount /system (Indalid argument)
and (I know 'cause I tried) I can't mount or format the /system partition. Maybe it's related, maybe it's not...

Hello,
thank you for answering.
I can temporary get to CWM recovery for sure, but I don't know how to push the erase_image file (that I found) to the device. I'm only able to copy files on the SD, using another phone, and then flash them from CWM. Is there a way to make adb able to detect the device even when it's in recovery?
Thank you

Are the ROMs you tried based on CM7/9? Because if they are, you need to format your system partitions to EXT4. You can do that with the multi-formatter.
Also, you say that you have your stock recovery back. Check the ROM zips that you flashed for any boot.img. If there is, check which kernel and which version. Some older kernels still have stock recovery.
As even stock recovery cannot mount /system, clearly your system partitions are corrupt. Format with the multi-formatter and flash a CM7/9 based ROM or flash back stock firmware via Odin.
If you choose the multi-formatter, remember to flash a kernel afterwards. And if you prefer, one with a permanent CWM.

E:can't mount cache/recovery/command
E:can't mount cache/recovery/log
E:can't open cache/recovery/log
E:can't mount cache/recovery/last_log

when wiping normal cache.. i get E"format_volume: make_etf4fs failed on dev/block/mmcblk0p7
can i get some help here ?

1. Flash stock rom again.
2. Then use CF-Root to get root and CWM.
I don't know if the method you descriped is the right one. The method above will work.

Cf root works, but i cant flash any rom, well, i can flash it allright but then it bootloops @ the yellow triangle again, no way to get into clockworkmod, download mode works fine
Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .
Still problems use usb jig to set rom counter to zero .
Return to service centre .

Hi peeps
(I've tried looking for related posts but nothing comes up with my stuff)
I have downloaded Rom Manager Premium and also downloaded clockwork recovery, how ever every time I reboot into recovery to install i get this
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
I have flashed the file before using Odin but i get other stuff saying E: cant mount (random stuff)
My phone is rooted
What am i doing wrong?
Rom Manager & CWRecovery don't work together on the SGS2. It's one or the other. For example, if you have CWRecovery installed (as a result of rooting your phone with a CFRoot kernel, for example), using Rom Manager has a tendency to break CWRecovery and/or put your phone into a bootloop.
So you're going to have to decide what you want to use.
Also
I have noticed I have Clockwork recovery once and I flashed a new ROM and i was left with the stock recovery. Is that normal too?
Depends what you used/did to flash the new rom. If you flashed it in CWRecovery, then that's unusual for it to be broken purely by flashing a custom rom meant for a I9100/T. Not completely unheard of mind you, but not usual.
If you used Rom Manager to flash the rom when you already had CWRecovery installed, then as per my previous post, it's obvious CWRecovery was broken by Rom Manager.
Again as per my previous post, one or t'other. Up to you. But use both at your peril.

So would you recommend that I remove ROM manager and just flash CW Recovery?
I wouldn't recommend you do anything/use one over the other. I'm just saying that you run the risk of having major problems (bootloop/broken CWRecovery) if you have both on your phone/try to use both.
Personally speaking, I've never had a problem rebooting my phone into CWRecovery every/any time I want to flash a rom/kernel/backup/restore.
Up to you which you use.

It looks like Im having problems with my boot recovery as I try to use clockwork its saying cant mount, even trying to access SD CARD.
Is there a way of clearing every thing and starting again?
Also when I use clockwork recovery
Anything I try to do i get this
E: can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E: can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
What rom/kernel are you running and how did you root your phone ?
You could try flashing a CFRoot kernel from here, if that doesn't work you should probably get your stock firmware from here and flash that in Odin. After that you can use a CFRoot kernel to root your phone.
That will give you a clean slate with CWRecovery working.
Edit to add - Yes, you're getting that in CWRecovery because Rom Manager obviously broke it as I've already said.

Hi guys! I have been reading through the post and searching for possible solution to my Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 problem but I cant find any solutions. Here is the story:
I have flashed the GT-P1000 tab with clockworkmod version 6 (i am not sure the exact version) using Odin.
Now after flashing the recovery, I have successfully installed Cyanogenmod 11 (nightly build) and everything was successful and everything is great.
A friend of mine borrowed the tab and he put a pattern to lock the phone, instead of asking him what is the pattern I just decided to wipe the tab again to make a clean install. So what I did was I went to recovery and selected "format /system" which I shouldn't have, then after rebooting it is not booting up to Cyanogen anymore, so what i did was I just wiped everything (format /data, cache and factory reset)
Now this is the weird part, the devices has kept on booting up to clockwork recovery and it says the device is not yet rooted, it is asking me if it is ok to root it, I always selected yes
After another boot up, the clockwork recovery is now version 3.0.0.5??? it is really weird? I never installed any clockwork mod with a lower version... How did that happen?
Now whenever I try to install from sd card or restore it or mount it nothing happens, it just says:
E:Can't mount
E:unknown volume
E:unable process volume! skipping
I tried to flash the recovery again using Odin many times but still the clockwork mod is stuck in version 3.0.0.5.
Right now, I am not sure if my understanding of the entire system is correct:
1. Should I install a new recovery, if yes, how and why is it whenever I am installing it again it is not being installed, it gets stuck to version 3.0.0.5?
2. Are there any other recovery I should use and how should I install it? is it the same as using the Odin?
3. Is there a way to install the original recovery of this tab and then from there I will start over again.
@Battousai1
1. & 2. Find an Odin flashable recovery for p1000... Go to download mode and flash it with Odin...
After doing that you shouldn't have the problem anymore...
3. To install the original recovery find the stock rom which is again Odin flashable ... Flash it and you'll have the stock recovery...

Hi guys, just an update, I have finally managed to restore my device's software back to its original version. Thanks to Overcome. Here's the thread for those who still have this device and have some similar problems: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1881981
Hi there,
Tried to install Hyperdrive but unfortunately I have crazy lags and problems with it. It is almost impossible to move around on the phone with it. The biggest problem I have is that It wont boot into TWRP recovery anymore. I made a backup before but when I try to install it with the android system recovery it fails (E:footer is wrong and E: signature verification failed)
I tried to flash Hyperdrive from recovery again (didn't work); I tried to wipe cache and format (didn't work)
Now I tried to flash a new Rom but apparently you cannot flash with the android recovery environment(I am also getting the two E: errors)?
Would like to get the phone back. Hope someone can help.
Do you remember the system baseband? This is critical. If it was MDK, then you could have used safestrap. If not, then you should have used safestrap, not MDK.
The A.R.E won't work, you need Odin + the tar file..
hi guys,
i have big problem with my galaxy s2. it is about four years old, fall down couple of times. i had no troubles the first three years. i read into odin and co and did made some upgrades and another mod. usb connector failed to connect to computer and car charging cable. and first time my telephone crashed and was in a boot screen loop. after my usb connection failed and i bought a new online (found one in china, somebody wrote this here in this forum) and put it in (might be the reason for the crashs? i do not know!)
so today my telephone crashed again (i charged it through cable and then i saw boot loop screen "android", although i had NeatROM- Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean installed, so normaly i would have seen "neat rom boot screen", but i saw"android" ... what the heck???) i really do not know what to do.
so far i can say, what i have installed.
PhilZ Build Version 5.15.9 - i9100
CWM Base Version: v6.0.3.7
i tried to install now CM nightly, but failed somehow...i have absolutely no idea what to do.
what i want?
i need help to get a new clean installation with full updates? i do not know if i have best kernel or whatever. appreciate any help. through CWM i am happy i can put my telephone in usb mount and saved my data. so anyone?
so i upgraded the kernel to
Philz Touch 6.48.4 and CWM 6.0.5.0
it was the newest version i could find for i9100. is this correct?
now i can choose a rom which i want? or does some not work with philz or s2?
fu** thi ****.....i wiped and erased cache everything and flashed Hazy Rom 5.02 + Pico Apps + Root and still boot loop....:crying:
i give up....this crap...i flashed now neatrom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-neatrom-lite-extralite-themed-aroma-t1569686
and again i have the "android" boot screen loop...instead of "neat rom" ...what to do???? i am desperate

Flash philz recovery and go in wipe data -> clean to install a new rom -> yes.
Then try to install a NeatRom.
/format preload is important
well i did this now again. installer works fine. no problems. after it reboots, but shows again boot screen "android"
blog.namran.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/android-boot2.jpg
and loop. i had neatrom before and i know there should be the neatrom bootscreen...
i flashed a stock rom with odin. and again boot loop. i did factory reset and it says "E: failed to mount /efs (invalid argument)"
might be the problem??? what now??
i see support for this old phone is pretty pretty low
looks like i have to buy a new one...fml

Try to flash again official firmware with odin.
If doesn't work
Try with repartition. Flash STOCK 2GB pit and kernel with odin. You have tutorial on xda. After repartition and following tutorial:
Then go in recovery and try to flash philz recovery or philz kernel zip. Then reboot again in than new philz recovery and try to format this:
wipe data -> clean to install new rom
Go in mount and storage -> /format sdcard0 -> default
After that go in Download mode and open the Odin and try to flash again firmware.
I don't have idea, try this.
okay, i will try this
repartition means everything will be deleted right? so even pictures and videos?
when i did normal flash, it never erased pictures (even though i do not have an external sd)

Yes. You will format everything(even internal storage), so that means you will have to make a backup of internal sdcard.
Read repartition tutorial on xda. You have them in s2 android development section.
looks like it did not help...i did repartition with 2GB stock and stock rom (PDA) with odin....i am still having bootloop and now in recovery i see again "E:failed to mount /efs (Invalid argument) ... crap
well, i just saw after mounting usb, that i still have all my data...what the hell? what did i do wrong? i followed the tutorial, clicked all checkboxes and chose the stock pit and pda?!?!?!?
