TeslaLED.
I use the xposed module that turns it on when you hold volume up while the screen is off, for me it's much more convenient than an app or the quicksettings widget.
On stock the widget is called assistive light.

Is there an app which helps to configure/ restrict the usage background data for mobile data and wifi?
I know on ics it can be done using the build in functionality, but it is a bit inconvenient.

noone having a good idea?
I look for something working like droidwall, but for background data only not for all data. Meaning where I have an overview on all Apps and where I can easily select/deselect which app may use background data on wifi and/or mobile networks

check for an app called 'Tasker' on play store
Thanks, i know tasker but its not about enabling/disabling background data following an event but a general setting which app may use foreground data only or also background data . On ICS it can be done in the data usage settings per app, but I search for a more easy to be used app

On iphone you can enable notifications for an app by jist going in settings- notification
but in android we need to go in each to enable them
why ? isnthere a way to enable all notifications without going in the app?

As far as I know, each app individually controls the notifications it can send - in some cases you even can't enable/disable them. On the other hand, you can disable the sync of certain accounts which, in turn, could disable most notifications of the corresponding apps, but there's no way to batch enable all notifications.
why? Good Question

its because android has a fully open source operating systems, so the app and game developers have to use there own notification settings, so you have to enable or disable the notifications in the app itselfs, there is no app that works perfectly that can switch them all on or off.
i hope i helped you, by the way try out FoxHound Rising 1.9 s3 rom because its mind blowingly awesome

mate use titanium backup and backup your app data and settings then copy your titanium backup data to a safe place then install your new rom and then install your apps including titanium backup and then place your titanium backup data back into the original location and restore the data for the apps you have installed that you have backups for, this will save you alot of time
thats what i do
i make a titanium backup and then restore the user apps with data
but still you need to atleast start that app once to recieve notifications
for example : Whatsapp or drippler or facebook
unless you are talking about backing up some system apps too using titanium backup that are responsible on notification settings

i know what you mean... but most apps you need to log in atleast once just to activate the app such as log in account details or get past the tutorial, but saying that i have not had a problem using titanium backup it remembers all the settings and log in info if you backup correctly
well yeah but i dont get notifications for other apps either like Crickbuzz and apps does not requires login or anything
i do a full backup/restore for all user apps only with data using titanium backup

True. Apps saved via Titanium Backup keep most settings stored - such as login data, notification settings, ringtones settings.
I keep my backups on the external SD, so when I factory reset I can restore the apps just as easily. It would take one big time effort to configure each app, but after that you shouldnt need to do it again... ever.

well said my friend
Alright this has been bugging me for a bit... How do I get apps to ask my permission before accessing my location (like on the iPhone). I have GPS on because I have the lookout security installed. And whenever I check facebook my GPS turns on and facebook tracks my location. Its not just facebook, its any app that supports location service. This will also benifit my battery. Any ideas? I have been searching Google and no luck there.

I was wondering if there is a way to disable HTC locations and use google as the geocoder for the stock clock/weather widget?
Use an app like LBE privacy guard to handle permissions.
You can delete the HTC Locations app and use GPS or WiFi location for the sense clock widget I believe.
Also you will want to uninstall the HTC Car stuff like automotive traffic and things like street view app. I know in the past I've uninstalled a butt load of the location type apps and still had the clock working but you may have to play around a bit. Use titanium backup and freeze the apps until you find out the combo you have to have, that way if you freeze something you actually need you can defrost it until you find the perfect setup for your usage, then test it and then remove it completely.

Dude your thread is called Location Privacy.
There's an app called Location Privacy that does exactly what you're looking for. It's published by PlaceMask and it's available on the Android Market.
The free trial version is good for 15 days. If you're still not sure whether it's worth $2.99 (you cheap bastard) you can re-install it--or you can perform a meta-reset...
Code:
HOME > MENU > Manage Apps > Select Placemask > Clear Data
...which is also a great way to turn off multiple alarms all at once. Use the alarm app's RESTORE function to turn them all back on without having to check a box next to every single one.
Anyway, back to Location Privacy:
Scans applications on your device and reports those using your location
Easy unmasking when you need to use real location (e.g. simply tap the PlaceMask to start and stop)
Remote control through SMS allows remote start and stop (useful with phone finders)
Provides replacement locations for your real location to enhance privacy
There are several apps--many of them free--that perform similar functions:
Location MockUp - Fake & Share
Fake GPS location
CatchMeIfUCan
GPSCheat! - Free
I've searched high and low for an answer to this question and sifted through many forums and have not found an answer. I apologize in advance if this was covered somewhere else or if there was a better place to post this question.
I'm trying to limit my mobile data usage with out jumping through hoops.
I'm looking for a widget, that with one click of a button, it can restrict background data, disable auto-sync and enable mobile data, and when pressed again, enable WiFi, disable background restriction and enable auto-sync.
This function, no matter how trivial, would save time and effort.
Is there anything like this out there?
Would something like this require root?

Looking for a similar same thing, particularly a key code or script that could toggle the "restrict background data" setting with LMT launcher (likewise for airplane mode). Cant find it anywhere whether automatic or by one click toggle. Did you ever find a solution?
Finally figured this out, man was it annoying.
I need it for my Samsung S5.
I disable the background data all the time to save battery.
It can be done with root access with a single command.
service call netpolicy 10 i32 1
If the API changes in the future, it's easy to look it up again.
http://grepcode.com/file/repository...1/android/net/INetworkPolicyManager.java?av=f
Look for the line with TRANSACTION_setRestrictBackground
Then just extrapolate that info to http://grepcode.com/file/repository...N/android/net/INetworkPolicyManager.java?av=f
Replacing DESIRED_ANDROID_VERSION with the version you're interested in.
So, my emails arrive late, the stock messaging app doesn't show new texts unless you scroll down when you open it (!!!), replacement sms apps have been wonky as well,... In general things just aren't updating correctly. I've made sure to go through the power management menus to allow apps to do what they need to but no go.
Anyone else had this problem? The battery life, size, and tethering capabilities are nice, but I just put my sim back in the Note 2 as those problems are making using this too unreliable.
Same problem here
I also have this problem, and I believe several people mentioned this in different places, so following is what I have done so far, not sure if this help your case, I am still monitor my phone since I just change my settings a few days back.
Standard steps includes:
("the app" below mean the application you have problem receive notification)
1. Set the app as protected in the Battery Saving settings.
2. Allow the app run in background.
3. In Wifi advanced settings, set to "always" during sleep.
4. Set power saving mode from "Smart" to "normal" .
I still have problem after all above steps, so I have make following attempt:
1) Disabled/Freeze "Phone Manager" system app.
2) Another app is "Power Genie", this app still run even I freeze it. So I have to use Root Explorer to rename them
under /system/app, rename HwPowerGenieEngine3.apk to HwPowerGenieEngine3.apkk, and rename HwPowerGenieEngine3.odex to HwPowerGenieEngine3.odexx
then reboot to recovery, clear cache, and dalvik cache, then reboot.
Again I am still testing this... HTH.
Just want to write a update, I think this resolved app got killed issue in my phone.
I think I found what was messing with my texts. I had mysms installed to backup and send texts to my N7. There's no way to select the stock app as the default messaging app. I ended up deleting mysms and only downloading it when I switch the sim into my Note 2.
The bigger problem is with Spotify. Even with it saved as a protected app it turns off about two minutes after the screen turns off, rendering the app almost useless. Wtf??
Mine works idk. it has to be a setting. hmm. you sure you have wifi on when screen is off. it is it's own setting on this phone
My notifications seem to quit working at times and I notice when using root explorer that my ext SD isn't showing
I wonder why my phone is working with notification (I even have ac display working to turn the screen on for 10 seconds when receiving a text message or email from work) I also use Spotify every day since I'm a premium member. No issues at all. I'm even able to change the volume and skip track and play and pause from my LG Tones
---------- Post added at 09:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:13 AM ----------
make sure Spotify is set to run in background not just a protected app otherwise when you shut your phone off it will end the app. that might be your problem.

it works in my phone. But you know, some mate2 owners don't have this issue at all.
May be an issue with APN settings. What I had when I first got the phone and what my settings are now seem much better especially when breaking up data and MMS into two different it independent panes. Once set to fast.t-Mobile.com and APN type default, supl, hipri the second selectable APN labeled for MMS as APN type and everything else identical and all hand offs via WiFi or mobile data are seamless. I was having various network issues prior to changes made to build.prop and default APN and once phone went to sleep it would not get alerts or transition to active/awake very well.

Yup yup, same here. I'm using Nova Launcher + TeslaUnread Plugin. Also stopped using my previous favorite 3rd party SMS replacement, Chomp, and now I'm back on stock SMS. The plugin seems very stable to me, I get a little number bubble on my SMS app on the homescreen, even if the notification doesn't come through on the status bar. Not exactly a fix, but it's been a decent workaround for me.

I was able to get my phone to connect with my surge hr Fitbit. Just wasn't reading directions correctly. The Surge hr is a nice product, now if I could only squeak out more time between charges. Roughly 3 days is the most I get between charges. I turn off the notifications when not needed.
I haven't posted in a while, but I've run into a problem.
I recently got the Aplus GV18 smartwatch. The watch requires an app called BTNotification to be on my phone; the app pushes notifications from my phone to the watch. However, if I leave the phone for any length of time then the app turns off and I don't get notifications.
I downloaded the app on another phone of mine and it stayed connected overnight. So it isn't the watch. I've tried just about everything I've found. I have:
-Changed the battery mode to "Normal"
-Disabled "Phone Manager" and the "Power genie" thing
-Fiddled with the # of background processes in the Dev options
-Changed the WIFI to stay on even with the screen off
-Other things in various threads
Any ideas??
