First thank you for reading this thread.
I successfully unlocked the bootloader but I'm have trouble with the permanent root of my phone.
I connect my phone via usb, I disable htc sync and set the phone to charge only
usb debugging is active
I run "rEZoundRoot-v1.5-TheDr1ver" option 1, the device reboots to flashboot
and it looks like the root works from the messages in the program works
the device reboots. I run the batch again and choose option 2, to permanently
install amon ra and I then create a full backup then I reboot.
but when I check for root its not rooted!!????
help please

easiest method especially if you s-on is fastboot flash amon ra and go to advanced options or developer options in it and flash its su and superuser and binaries thats built into the recovery...if you plan on staying on ics or lower roms amon ra and s-on is good for you...if you flash any rom higher i highly HIGHLY suggest gaining s-off and using a recovery like twrp or cwm as they have been updated here in the threads specifically for jellybean and kitkat where as amon ra hasnt....also updating to most recent stuff like radios and hboot and kitkat roms while s-on puts you in a much higher risk of a brick as you will not be able to downgrade to fix a soft brick just in case things get messed up on your end...its only possible to fix a soft brick while s-off
thanks for the answer
I don't know about or understand the s-on/s-off thing. how do I s-off??? As I read your reply again I can tell you that I did exactly that when I rebooted I ran "rEZoundRoot-v1.5-TheDr1ver" again in option 2, which gave me access into amon ra and I installed su and superuser at that time but still no root, can you tell me how to find out if I'm s-on or s-off. are you automatically s-on if you have done nothing to obtain s-off??
thank you for helping************** edit

I was able to boot into amon ra untethered and I tried to reinstall or fix su it appeared to go well
I then went into the fix permissions menu and ran that app after which I rebooted and checked for root su was again denied!!! I'm so frustrated.

You appear to be running ICS firmware, did you read the notes and information on TheDr1ver.com about this method of rooting? I am assuming not, as this is for Gingerbread only, it will not work on ICS.
Proper rooting of the Rezound is actually VERY simple, no tool or all in one is needed, just proper drivers, adb, and an unlocked bootloader.
1. Install adb and fastboot (usually the ADB SDK from Google appropriate for your machine)
2. Install drivers (if not already installed, use HTC Sync, install then remove the application)
3. Go to HTCDev.com and follow through the unlock process
4. Boot and/or flash a recovery like Amon Ra/TWRP/CWM
5. Flash SuperSUxxx.zip in recovery
6. Reboot and go to the SuperSU app and update binaries if necessary
Done, permanent root. With ICS there is no real "one click" method of rooting, GB had some exploits that some scripts could temp root, then permanent root, but they don't work in ICS or are no longer supported.
Sorry, but you really should just to do it the manual way, there are tons of step-by-step tutorials on the various forums.

Ok i'm already able to flash into Amon Ra and within the Amon Ra recovery I have made a full backup and, under the "developer options"
tab I installed su. So since I'm apparently part rooted because I can flash into amon ra but there is a problem when attempting to install su from Amon Ra so I'll read some more because I don't want to brick my phone.

OK, then do it manually...
1) Download UPDATE-SuperSU-vx.xx.zip from http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu, where x.xx is the current version (1.94 at the time of this posting) and place it in the root of your external storage (SD Card)
2) Reboot and start Amon Ra
3) Install/Flash UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.94.zip
4) Wipe cache and dalvik (do not wipe/format anything else)
5) Reboot (will take longer than normal, be patient)
6) Open SuperSU and update the binary (it will prompt you if it needs to)
7) Go to Settings tab and scroll down to SYSTEM section, and select "Install SuperSU into /system", if it is grayed out and you can't select it, then it is already there. Reboot immediately if prompted.
8) Open the Play Store and install BusyBox and Root Checker
9) Open BusyBox and grant it root permissions, after it goes through it's checks it should say something about "BusyBox xxxxx is installed. Busy Box is installed to /system/xbin", Select Busybox 1.22.1 will be installed to /system/xbin and click INSTALL at the bottom and allow it to finish, then close Busybox
10) Reboot
11) Open Root Checker and tab Verify Root, you should be good to go.
If this doesn't work, I would replace Amon Ra with TWRP or CWM and do it again.
I would really suggest twrp... ....when I first rooted and installed twrp the first thing it asked me when on stock before I rebooted was right before I rebooted, would you like to install su? I swiped to flash rebooted checked and su was working perfectly.... I would suggest that..... Okay I know I'm probably not the right person to do this, but I'm thinking about making a root guide for the Rezound..... Taking everything that could go wrong and also putting that in there with a answer on what to do.....
Sent from my Rezound using tapatalk. CyanogenMod 11. S-off.

I think that would be useful. I'm looking into finally rooting my current rezound and there's just so much info out there my brain can't process anymore. I used to know exactly how to do it but my brain has totally regressed and there are to many term/acronyms to hold onto in my brain. Also trying to figure out all of it will work on my mac booted into windows.

I was using Revolutionary to root it, everything went good. When I fastboot my phone, I have the pink and white Revolutionary a long with S-OFF. However, the script froze when trying to install CWM as my recovery. Busybox and such says that my phone is not rooted when I try to run the revolutionary script, it says my phone is not supported. Help?
I have no recovery and apparently my phone isn't rooted.

Your on the right track dude you have not messed up at all. Revolutionary just turns S-ON to S-OFF so you can now flash a custom recovery
Download http://www.tinyw.in/1Rc and rename it to PG86IMG.zip and place it in the root of your SDCard (Name and Place is very important)
From here follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192525 (Your on Step 5, Part 2 - Under "Take a deep breath, get ready!")
I am receiving a Rezound soon and doing some research on the best rooting method and so far I have seen this:
[TOOL] HTC Rezound All-In-One Toolkit V2.0 [3-25-2012] [Noob-Proof]
Is this still working and recommended? I read through most of the pages but I'm seeing mixed reports of how the latest OTA is messing up perma root etc.
Thanks
I have a replacement phone coming on Tuesday and was just thinking the same thing.
yes i think this the best and easiest way. it has everything including the htc drivers. just plug in your phone to your computer and click on the buttons. it cant get any easier.
I am a manual command prompt type guy.
Follow HTCDev for unlock. Flash Amon RA 3.15 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23781936&postcount=428 (fastboot flash recovery "insert filename".img), create a nandroid. Then flash this in recovery. http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip After that install Jrummy's Busybox installer from Play store, get+install the latest busybox.
Then if you're feeling spunky, do the s-off procedure. To recover back to a bootable state then from the s-off exploit, reflash recovery and restore boot.img only.
alright guys so my only rooting/rom changing/whatever experience comes from the Droid 1, which was an extreme breeze to install and get root access easily, well overall super easy to install all you needed well now I'm having trouble with the rezound as it's a little more complicated (for me) anyways here's what I need help with
I unlocked my bootloader following the super noob guide, In the super noob guide the directions say to install the ICS leak 3.11 and then install the All in one HTC rezound tool thing I did all of that and Managed to unlock my bootloader and I am not 100% sure if I instaled the custom recovery but It seems like I did, If AmonRa is the ICSandwichy looking bootloader with the blue letters, IF it is then I did install it then here comes what I need help with, I cant seem to get anything out of clicking the perm root on the extras I am running the program on administrator and also tried it without running in administrator, I tried and tried but I can't seem to get root (checked with app root access and odesn't give me it) I even tried installing it through the options of the clockworkmod thing/Adamnro by clicking on the install su & superuser? option it says it installs it but once I'm checking it doesn't work
I have however not installed any kernels nor roms im still running on the ICS leak from when I unlocked the bootloader, Help me great XDA community
any help will be appreciated
EDIT: I forgot I also run it in debug mode and when I try to get perm root I do it when the phone is on
The easiest way to install super user is through amon ra recovery,I believe it's under advanced or devoloper options.or just flash a rooted custom rom I suggest picking one that includes the boot image that gets flashed in bootloader. The newer roms are mostly set up for s-off only and don't include an easily flashable boot image.

I had to flash these 2 files in recovery to get root working. You might need to install busy box once booted up but not 100% sure if that was needed.
I could not get root working by using the option in Amon or the tool. Flashing these 2 files was the only way I was able to get root. I was on 3.14 leak though but should be the same for 3.11
If you are still having trouble and you have a windows based system, t wouldn't hurt to give my toolkit a try. It doesnt have the super fancy GUI but it is very functionable. I designed it to help myself when i was a super noob. It goes through the whole process step by step and explains in the simplest terms possible how you should do it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1571746
just a tip, make sure you have all of the htc drivers when you are doing this and then once you have finished the step telling you to install the recovery, go back into the bootloader by either doing it manually or using my program once your phone is on. (util, then roboot into bootloader) Once you are in the bootloader, see if you can get into the recovery section. If you got in successfully then you should be in a differnet menu, from there go to the development section of amon ra and then select root. Hopwfully you get success but if you did not do the following.
Go to the mounts section of amon ra and then mount the phones usb storage. It should still be plugged in so the device should show up on your computer. Go and download the latest superuser from here:
http://androidsu.com/superuser/
place it in the root of the device storage thats on your computer (the root is the main directory or folder)
then unmount the storage from your phone and go to the flashing section on Amon Ra. From there select the superuser zip folder from the sd card. Flash it and if it still gives you an error i would check your steps or request more help because i cant help you beyond this point.
I hope this walkthrough has helped and good luck on obtaining root. With root you arent limited to anything. If you are feeling good after you get root i would suggest trying to get s-off. To get s-off you have to do hardware tricks not just software tricks, but s-off is much harder and more dangerous. Have fun with your new and hopefully rooted device!
wow after having this post up for a matter of seconds i have a thanks, glad i helped!
thank you very much this worked magically
thank you for your great reply but I tried the above method and it worked beautifully I still checked out and downloaded your tool it is very nice good job on it dude and I got S -off already as well wire trick was tricky as I was trying to use a copper wire and it was workin then I got my old ipod charger cable and cuted it then got mad because I thought it wasn't going to work because they were like tiny wires tied toguether but who knew first try and it worked perfectly...
I've rooted my original Incredible and a Nook before with no problems. I didn't anticipate any problems here. From stock, I successfully flashed the latest ICS RUU (3.14) and unlocked the phone via Hasoon2000's kit. I confirmed in HBOOT that I was unlocked. When I tried to run the "Perm Root (GB/ICS)" command, it didn't work. There were a lot of "Device not found" errors in the terminal (yes, USB debugging was enabled at all times). My phone would try to reboot but then get stuck on the triangle/exclamation point screen.
After a few tries, I decided to manually root the phone. I rebooted normally (after taking the battery on and off) and used Hasoon2000's kit to install AmonRa. I then booted into recovery. I wiped cache and Dalvik cache and went into Developer Menu. I then chose "Install superuser and su." It seemed to do it correctly. I rebooted and made sure Superuser was installed and updated. At this point, I thought I had root access.
I installed Titanium Backup but it gave me an error that it couldn't acquire root privileges. I installed the Root Checker app and it also said I wasn't rooted properly. I don't know what I did wrong. Please help.

Yes, you need to be rooted to get S-off, so installing any of the roms will do.
S-OFF is a whole another process, you definitely need to be rooted first though.

I also got errors when tring to do the one-click root method. So try flashing the Amon-Ra recovery after you unlocked the bootloader. Reboot into recovery and then go to develpoer's menu and select root and something else in that menu. From there you are rooted. After that, follow this website to get S-OFF. I did mine last night and it went smooth. It took me a few times to do the wire trick, but I finally got it.
S-OFF Instructions
Hi guys.
It's 2 days already I am trying to do s-off for my evo 3d. Maybe anyone got "up to date" thread where I can do this? My hboot is 1.49.0018, and GSM phone.
Because thread using hex and revolutionary method is out of date, and the main file PG86IMG.zip is no longer uploaded there.
Juopunutbear method requires stock RUU, but when I download from http://www.androidfiles.org/ruu/?developer=Shooter this version: RUU_SHOOTER_U_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.28.401.1_Radio_11.77.3504.00U_11.25.3504.06_M_release_262714_signed.zip I get wrong zip file when flashing. Name was too big for 4ext, but when I shorten name it's gives error.
Any ideas? :crying: Thanks..
EDIT: Got S-off, but have no root now..
You can't flash that through 4ext. You need to rename to PG86IMG.zip and put it on the root of your SD card. Then reboot into the bootloader and when it asks to update, hit volume up to say yes.
Make sure when you boot back up to delete the file from the sd card.
I believe your bootloader needs to be relocked before running the ruu as well.
fastboot oem lock
Personally I have seen many evo V users get s-off just by being on a stock based rom. Because there was no ruu available to them they went as close to stock as possible. Probably best to just follow the instructions though if you have that option.
Thanks Brian. Actually I did just like you said, but apparently that RUU version had 1.53.0007 hboot, so now I am on stock RUU with 1.53.0007 hboot.
Gonna try juopunutbear method first if I manage to install linux first haha.
Good luck! It's not too hard to make the live dvd/usb. There is a program you can download that will set it all up for you if you go to the ubuntu website. They have all the instructions for a live ubuntu dvd/usb.
So I finally made S-off using wire trick But got new problem so gonna ask here..
I am still on stock RUU, and I installed 4ext using Play store, but it's not working cause it says I need root. I installed busybox and SuperSu, but SuperSu won't work, it says: "There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU can not install it, This is a problem!
I had root before I know for sure.. Also I can't go into recovery from bootloader because recovery does not exist. Can I flash 4ext through the bootloader renaming it PG86IMG.zip or it's not how it works?
Just downloaded several "root checker" apps, and all of them says I have no root access.
Thanks!
Edit: my hboot is 1.53.7777 now if that matters.
Edit2. I am on stock ROM, maybe that's why it does not work..?
EDIT: I've fixed everything, thanks.
Sorry, was asleep but glad to see you got it! I'm assuming you had to flash Super user to get the binaries installed? The app is just an interface.

Yes I flashed recovery using adb and then SuperSU using recovery And my root access came back.
