hlo frendz i need a gallery app that ignore my extSdCard pls hlp me:good:
You could use StudioKUMA .nomedia Manager. It places files named ".nomedia" in the folders you don't want to show in apps like Music Player, for instance. It works for audio files, I think it works for image files too.
Or you can just place a .nomedia file with a size of 0 byte in the folder that contains your pictures and reboot, I think this method works too
already find

Hey all..
I have a few media players installed on my hero, but on the preinstalled one is there a way to get it to ignore a folder? I am currently learning spanish and have about 500 mp3's on the phone. It unfortunatly lists them all on the media player. I want to get it to ignore them so when i let it play my entire playlist on random it wont choose any of those.
is there a way? I have MixZing lite which does have an option to look at specific folders, but it wont intergrate with the lock screen (which is really very handy!). I tried adding the .nomedia onto the directory but to no avail....
I had the same problem, so far all I've done is hide the entire folder by stiking a '.' on the front of the folder e.g. hide the folder 'hidestuffinhere' by renaming it '.hidestuffinhere' using Astro or something.
The media player ignores everything under these folders:
\Media\Alarms
\Media\Ringtones
\Media\Notifications
However, if you move your spanish mp3s into these folders, they'll show up in alarms, ringtones or notifications.
sweet! that will solve my ringtones issue to then
just moved ringtones to the folder /media/ringtones but not showing up in the ringtone selection... should i do a reboot first?
Try a reboot,
If it doesn't work, backup your SD to your PC. Then format the SD card through the phone and recopy your data back.
That worked for me.
Cannot rename a folder starting with a "."

Yeah, I use Astro, and it works fine.
Yep just used Astro to change my download folder (where I download ringtones to on my sd card) anyways in the music player it used to show a load of unknown albums and list the weird ringtones I had downloaded.
Changed the folder through Astro .downloads and now the music player doesn't pick up those unwanted files.
The other alternative is:
Using notepad, create an empty file
save the file as .nomedia (do not save as .txt, but "All files")
add the file .nomedia to the folder you want to avoid showing media from
This works for video, photos and MP3. They can still be accessed using file explorer.
Hope that helps
I've been a lurker on the forums for a while now and I think this will be my first official post...
I'm having an issue with the Gallery where it would make copies of items in my Gallery. For instance: I will have a folder called "Pictures" and inside this folder I will have other folders for various photos and stuff. Sometimes when I'm in the Gallery it will show 3 of the same picture of all my photos. Whats up with this?
It's a bug with some phones running Froyo. In your DCIM folder on your SD card there is a file named ".thumbnails" and the gallery keeps copying the files in there. I have found a pretty simple fix for this. (I'm sure there is an easier way but this is how I did it)
Open your Files app and make a new folder named ".nomedia"
Connect your phone to your computer and mount it.
On your computer move the ".nomedia" file into the .thumbnails file found in the DCIM folder. (Make sure you move it and not copy at this point. If that file stays there you won't see any pictures / music etc.)
Now copy the the same ".nomedia" file and paste it in to the .thumbnails file found on your external SD card in the DCIM folder (provided there is one, if not, don't worry about this part. You'll only have that file if your pictures automatically are stored on your external SD card.)
Unmount your phone and after the media scanner is done you should have no copies and never have the problem again.

+1 rramey23 is correct this is what i found to be true as well
Thanks! This helps a lot. I just have a question. I'm how come I'm repeating the step twice? Would it be easier if I just create a folder named ".nomedia" on my computer in the DCIM folder or will this have to be done through the filer app?
Nevermind I see what you mean. Will this make it so that Gallery doesn't read files from within this folder even if there are files there?
You have to do it from the File app because you can't create a file on your computer that has a . before the name. At least I know I can't on my computer. Plus when you do that on your phone it changes the "folder" you just made, into a ".nomedia file." As far as I know we can't do that on the computer.
Having a .nomedia file in a folder will make both the gallery and media player not look there for files. But you can still access them through the Files app.
Hope that all makes sense.

So will it rename the ".nomedia" to ".nomedia file."? I put it in the .thumbnail folder and it still shows dupes.
I put the ".nomedia" folder that I created into ".thumbnails" but it still shows the files in Gallery.
You're not creating a folder called .nomedia, it's a file called .nomedia. You can create an empty text document and name it .nomedia, or an even easier way is to do a search on your phone's SD card for an existing one and just copy and paste it into the .thumbnails folder. I did a search on mine and had over 60 .nomedia files.
When you make a folder named .nomedia, it changes to a FILE called .nomedia. The Files app doesn't see that newly created file. Which is why you need to use the computer to copy/move the file where you actually need it.

My .nomedia is still a folder.
Hi,
Try this easy step from philyew on T-Mo forum:

Hope it helps.
You can also use sgs tools and run the clean thumb script.

I searched for other .nomedia files and copied them from application folders and stuff but still doesn't work. I'm still seeing 3 of the same pictures.

So I have just found that I have 2 copies of all my pictures in my gallery. I tried running the script from SGS Tools, no go. Cleared the data in Media Storage and that cleared it up. What a pain...

Your solution worked for me! Thank you for sharing.
WARNING: you need root for this!
A common problem with ICS and JB Stock as well as ROMs is that the music isn't appearing in the music player.
This is caused due to presence of a file ".nomedia" in your music player folders.
Up until now, you either had to use inbuilt music player ES File Explorer or search and delete all .nomedia files and hope that you get lucky.
But searching your entire phone AND sdcard can take hours, especially if you've got a big (16/32 GB) sd-card.
Also, thousands of .nomedia files could turn up if you've got lots of media files (hello manga addicts ). I have Mango installed and had nearly 3 GB of manga on my phone (), thus the search (using SolidExplorer) hadn't finished even after 3 hours.
Well, don't worry!
I've got the quickest solution to your problem:
Connect phone to computer via USB cable, or better yet use sd-card reader to directly connect the sd-card.
Use your computer to search and delete all ".nomedia" files. It's much faster .
Re-mount sd-card on your phone.
Now use Root Explorer or any other file explorer with root access.
navigate to <root directory>/data/
delete the ".nomedia" file present over there.
Enjoy your music!
Press the THANKS button, I need it.
The problem isn't quite so simple. I don't have have .nomedia files anywhere in my music folders, and yet it doesn't scan them.
I too dont have .nomedia file anywhere ! I think the problem is in libs ?
Try this.
If you have the patience, install mixzing player. reboot your phone. then open mixzing first. go into folders, then the folder where you store your music, then wait. The names of the songs should change from filenames to the id3 information. Repeat for each folder, scrolling so that the info appears for each track; all while not actually playing anything. Now open your stock player, the tracks should have appeared. If they haven't, force stop the media scanner and try again.
Hit thanks if it helps !

Are you guys sure you checked the /data and /data/data files? Get your SD mounted on a pc and search for .nomedia files; include hidden files in your search.
Should work. Did for me AND a couple of my friends, all facing same problems and having different ROMs.
Just in case, tell me the names of the ROMs you people are using.
Will try to help.
Running a fresh install of PAC by nims11 and I have all my media visible. So no worries.
Did notice some corrupted jpgs , deleted them

no
If you wanna hide some pictures
I would suggest QuickPic
You can manually create file names ".nomedia" if I remember correctly to tell other apps that this folder doesn't contain anything
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
so i must train my english
write resco photo viewer in google or youtube, u will see how it works(i cant add images-not enough post)
this is how look RPviewer, you have everything in folder(like in file manager) when u open folder with images, u will see only images in folder, not every images in device
As said you can add empty files named .nomedia in each folder that you don't want to be displayed in gallery.
Create an empty file with any file manager app.
Must reboot to have them read and the filter applied.
Hello,
I have a bunch of voice recordings that are in my sounds folder, (m4a and 3ga files) when using the Samsung Voice Note App. If I record a new one it shows up but once I move them between sound folders (internal or external) they dont show up within the app anymore. Is there a way to refresh or should I be using Root Explorer to push them somehow? I tried using the stock file manager app and Astro. Almost like its not refreshing...
Any help appreciated

Hello,
When you're copying it to the External Storage, where are you copying them to? Is there a file called ".nomedia" in the folder where these items are located (or in a high-level folder)? If that ".nomedia" file is present, apps won't notice anything in that folder (or it's subfolders) when they scan for media. This prevents apps like gallery from seeing the various thumbnails that are throughout the storage.
If you don't see them in your file explorer, you may need to turn on "Show Hidden Files" in the settings.
Hope this helps!

I didn't realize someone responded til today. I appreciate that! That did help because now I know why it wasn't working. Now my question is is there a workaround for removing that .nomedia file? Its not allowing me to do anything. Any suggestions?

I've never had issues deleting .nomedia files... Does your root explorer actually have root access?
Where are you trying to copy these files? Maybe you can create a new folder (sans .nomedia file) and stick them in there. Just remember, if there are any "parent" folders that have the .nomedia in them, it won't search the subfolders for media.

Your the man! Root explorer wouldn't delete it and I kept getting this message View attachment 2784852
so then I ended up deleting it from the stock file manager and it worked. I would of never figured that out without your help. I kept seeing the. nomedia. file but ignored it. I don't even know where it came from, just glad that worked.
