I had been testing several ROMs while I saw an unofficial Cyanogenmod 11 thread. There was an available zip for pepper as well. I used Cyanogenmod 8 then. So I rebooted into recovery and flashed.
I then wanted to flash gapps, so I enabled recovery reboot in the developer options in the settings, I pressed the power button and I chose to reboot into recovery.
The phone just reboots normally.
Please note that root access has not been destroyed, I can access files that require root, it is just that the recovery reboot does not work, and now I am stuck with a ROM that I just wanted for testing purposes. Didn't expect that it would lock me in
Any help appreciated.
Many cm11 roms fail to reboot to recovery, but you can just reboot normally and press volume up .(or down, it's the higher one if phone is vertical) button a few times until it goes to recovery. This is manual system and works as long as you still have the recovery.

You saved me
Up button solved it
I'm posting the whole process for anyone having the same issue:
1) Enable Developer mode by clicking 5 times in the Build info under About phone in the settings.
2) Go in there and enable advanced reboot
3) Select advanced reboot and while the phone opens, hold Volume UP.
Now you are into recovery mode. Without selecting recovery reboot it didn't work (steps 1, 2)

I was running Ganbarou (CM9 based) and one day when I tried to turn my tab on it was stuck on the boot animation. After several attempts and wiping/resets/reflash etc. I tried a full NANDROID restore. During the restore it got stuck on 'restoring data' (Tab stopped responding, left it for 5 hours and it still didn't move).
I then had no choice but to do an unroot and reflash of stock firmware using ACSyndicate's guide.
Everything was okay until my tab rebooted after the stock firmware installation and now I get this loop whenever I turn it on:
# Manual Mode #
--Updating application...
Copying 'XAB' apk.
Copying Common Apks.
I cannot access stock recovery (I simply get the #Manual Mode# loop) but I can get into Downloading mode.
Help?
I hit the same issue here, did you find a solution ?
Try to flash your tab with samsung stock rom via Odin two times (one by one) . Do not let it boot android after the first flash by holding " volume - " button, as you know it will make it load in a download / recovery mode. After second flash let it boot android. In some cases, as it was for me, force switch it off, by pressing power button for 10-15 sec. Then switch it to stock recovery mode: press power button and hold " volume - " button till recovery mode appear - do wipe data and wipe cash, then reboot. Hope it should help to boot.
I have a stock Jelly Bean 4.1.2 installed on my xperia P handset. I wanted to install the custom rom CM 11 on my xperia. So I first rooted my handset using Doomlord Easy rooting toolkit. Then I copy pasted the custom Roms zip file in the internal storage. Then in order to install the custom rom I need to boot into the recovery mode of xperia P.
So I first tried using Quick Boot but it goes on rebooting to the regular jelly bean OS and doesn't enter the recovery mode.
Could anyone guide me which step I actually missed for installing the custom rom. If a perfect guide is provided I would be very grateful.

I tried doing the steps as guided by you. On pressing the volume up key and the power button it vibrates 1 time then I kept on pressing the power button. So then the phone booted in safe mode again and again and then when I stopped pressing the power button the phone booted normally again in Jelly Bean. Is there any problem with unlocking the bootloader. I have received a key for unlocking the bootloader on my GMail account when I requested it on the sony's website.
did u tried with volume down key to enter recovery..? u said that u wanna install cyanogenmod ..so u need a custom kernel which can be found in same zip file of rom named 'boot.img'.& & a custom kernel needs unlocked bootloader. if u have to unlock your bootloader ..u have to search ..it's very easy and can be found on this forum, too(( if not pm me i'll send detailed steps.)).& yes,u are gonna need that key which you received to unlock bootloader .
u can always use ( fast boot ) to flash cm11
it`s better and best ......
any ways u could inter recovery mood by pressing volm+ 2 time`s after the phone vibration ....when sony log show...
its always work
If you installed CMW, to enter it I push about 10 or 15 times, while the phone is turning on, until it loads the cmw

If u wanna help at least write it the right way...
For CWM, turn on phone, when it first shows the Sony logo start pressing various times (Volume - ) key (don't push one time and keep the finger on the key!!) until it enters cwm recovery.

For me it works only with Volume '+'
In CM11 zip, u have the boot.img... flash it using fastboot (doesn't work on Windows 8 or 8.1), then u'll have the CM11 kernel... turn on the phone and when it is starting, it'll vibrate when showing sony logo, just tap the power button when vibrates and will enter in CWM, then just follow the tutorial in CM11 topic.

I got same problem to reboot in CWM mode. Following all recommendations in this thread. Did not work.
However when coming back to one of the Xperia Phone instructions to reboot in CWM, I tried again to follow those instructions given by following links :
Sony Xperia P CyanogenMod 11 Project page Thread on xda-developers https://sites.google.com/site/androdevlinux/xperia-p/xperia-p-roms/cm11-download/
Here are extracts which I strictly followed :
First time flashing CyanogenMod 11.0 your device, or coming from another ROM? You need to be on Unlocked bootloader
Fastboot kernel(boot.img) from the rom zip
Press power button when Device vibrates at boot splash/logo to enter TWRP recovery
Format data and cache
Flash the Zip
Reboot
The "Press power button when Device vibrates at boot splash/logo to enter TWRP recovery" is really the trick to enter CWM mode ....
i installed a custom rom, but due to some reason it hasnt installed properly and not letting me access settings. and moreover i am not able to install CWM recovery as vol - button way is not wrking.
Wht shd I do?? please help
Edit: I figured this out... I had to hold volume up and down at the same time while powering up. Also the phone needs to be unplugged. IF its plugged in it will go to Download mode instead of recovery.
Hello,
I recently Went from the stock ATT rom to CM 10.2, and then to Omni.
I can not access CWM recovery by powering the phone on while holding volume up... Ive also tried holding the soft home key.
The only way I can get into recovery is to open ROM manager and choose reboot to recovery. This scares me because if my rom goes haywire I may not have any way to get back into the recovery.
I have already tried re flashing CWM
any ideas?
Quick Boot
You can download the app "Quick Boot" from the Play Store, which has the option to reset into recovery (and many other options)

Now i haven't tested beyond that but i found a youtube link for flashing stock rom via odin
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ChtmNtpk3c
but this is in spanish so i translated in english here..
You must install Samsung KIES to ensure that your PC detects your phone.
After downloading install Odin
1 - Restart the phone in Download Mode ( Vol down , Home, Power Simultaneously ) .
press volume up to continue ( or vol down to leave but it can damage... )
2- Start Odin
3 - select files and press Start
Watch Out !!! Never unplug your phone before restarting
After 5-10 minutes your phone will reboot to your new ROM

Thank you very much! Although my SCH-i589 is currently hard brick, I think it will be very useful! -- Greetings from new members after 8 years
I flashed an unofficial Evolution X v6.5 Rom For my Poco F1 today,
it was working fine but then I tried to Reboot into MY Custom Recovery( OrangeFox ) using the Advance Restart Option Exist in Rom.
OrangeFox Recovery Opening Image was Showing but it didn't opened, My phone shut down and rebooted again into the Same OrangeFox Opening Image and then shut down again.
It stuck into Recovery Opening Bootloop.
I tried holding the power button to reboot into system but noting is happening, It is showing same Recovery Opening Image and then shutting down,
I tried holding the power button + Volume UP Button, Same thing was happening Recovery Opening Image and then shutting down.
Luckily when I tried holding the power button + Volume down Button, It opened the bootloader.
So I thought Something happened to the OrangeFox recovery file So I installed the TWRP Recovery with My PC.
BUT Now It showing TWRP Opening Image and then shutting down. Same Recovery Bootloop.
Something( Maybe the Rom ) preventing me from rebooting into any recovery.
I should mention that I didn't installed any new app or anything, I just flashed the rom and then finished the Google setup.
I managed to shut down the phone by holding all 3 button for about 20sec.
But it's not charging anymore, if I plug the to phone to charger it start the whole Recovery Bootloop again.
Please Let me know if you know of any possible solutions.
I managed to fix that issue, In Future if anyone else got same problem in any phone, Then Follow this,
At First Hold all three button for about 25sec to shut down your phone,
at this situation your phone won't charge, if your battery completely drained then your phone might get hard brick, so shut down it at first.
Then download a stable & trustable rom and put that in SD Card or Pendrive( in this case you will be needed an OTG to plug the perdrive into your phone )
Then download the latest TWRP or any other Recovery in your PC. You really need the latest custom Recovery( 0 - 3 Months Old ).
I should let you know, You need to install ADB & Fastboot Drivers on your PC to perform any normal rooting process on your phone, And Download "Android Platform Tools".
Open CMD in "Android Platform Tools" Folder
Connect your phone to your PC in bootloader mode by holding down Power + Volume Down Button.
Then Type in CMD - fastboot devices
To check your device is properly connected or not. If your phone is connected properly then CMD will show a random number and fastboot. If not then connect the phone properly and check the driver.
Then Type - fastboot erase userdata
It will erase all your internal and data.
Then Type - fastboot flash recovery "PUT HERE THE LATEST CUSTOM RECOVERY FULL PATH"
It will flash the custom recovery, IN above command after writing recovery give a space then write the full path or hold and drag the latest custom recovery to command prompt, it will automatically write the full path for you.
After flashing the recovery now you can open the recovery.
Now Open the custom recovery immediately by holding down Power + Volume UP Button.
Then Wipe the Old Rom and flash the new downloaded rom from SD Card or Pendrive.
AND there you go, Now you can reboot into your new system or recovery.
