Hi guys im new here and i hope this is the right place to post this.
Im wondering if it is possible to make something like a symbolic link for android. Might be a stupid idea, but with the new android 4.4 kitkat that restricts apps from write access to external storages, i was wondering if i can work around it using symbolic links lol. I need a workaround because i use dropsync dropbox to wirelessly sync all of my media in my dropbox and only my sd card has enough free space.

I think you mean you want to link a folder inside internal memory to external SD Card.
So here is a workaround you can use.
Download "Folder Mount" from Play Store.
Then link the folder where app stores in internal memory to a folder on your external storage.
TAKE BACKUP OF THAT FOLDER BEFORE YOU START DOING ANYTHING.
Sometimes above app causes problems and may format/delete important data.

Thanks for your reply! So foldermount requires root access? I was hoping for a solution that didnt require root access. But if there's no other way i guess i have no choice.

Unfortunately the folder you are talking about (app data), requires root access to create a link.
So you need root access.
Anyway wish you Safe and Happy rooting!!! :good::good::good:

for the moment not possible! Maybe in the future someone will make a rom who supports that
Gl to sd card only moves files. Apps will not work later. For example, I moved Max Payne to external sd card, and then when I launched the game, it asked to download missing files. What we need over here is an app that will automatically rout to sd card when clicked.
I tried App2SD, Link2SD and GLtoSD and none worked except for breaking Google Play, the only solution i found was Directory Bind.

Thanks, will give it a try. Weird thing, i've spent like an hour trying to figure out why can't move apps to sd...
Well Directory Bind can't move Apps it only moves folders, so you can move all the SD data and some of the folders containing the Apps but when you move it you have to leave the original folder on internal memory because it makes it impossible to delete, so you just have to delete the contents.
Anyone tried "super mount".app made by lidroid
Would this work?
I opened the script file using notepad, would you just change where it says "external_sd" to "extSdCard" and it would bind the folder and allow games to access the data from the external SD?
Just asking because I'm not sure if this would work on the S3...
I know this is an age old question, but I figured I'd give it a shot. I was wondering what my best option was to get apps and/or their data onto my microsd card. I've tried the method with Directory Bind, but I wasn't to big a fan. Just looking for a point in the right direction, for the easiest/quickest/best method.(I have already rooted my phone, so rooting isn't an issue)
Also while I'm here what's the best method of free tethering, again with the rooted ability.
Same here! I've tried the foldermount method and using shortcuts with the root explorer in Rom manager to no avail. But, for someone with some knowhow, I've accidentally got it to work with Spotify. I don't know for the life of me what I have done, but between hours of using the above to methods, Spotify is now on my external Sd card. I can uninstall spotify, wipe data, cache, the whole nine yards and when I reinstall, boom, straight to my sd card. I can reformat my sd card, and when I install spotify, it will create a folder named Android/data/com.spotify.mobile.android.ui folder. on my sd card. All the songs i download goes in the same directory just like it did under sdcard0 on the internal memory. But now, I can't replicate this at all. I'm trying with zedge, but no luck. If I find anything, I'll post back to this thread.
I downloaded a couple of apps, but when i open ES file explorer i cant find the apps,it suppose to be in the download folder.I did check in the sd card0 and in the ext sdcard and no lock.

First time I tried with Directory Bind I was able to move the game file to the sd, but when opening the app it requires downloading the files, so it can't find them in the new Directory. The next time was short lived because I couldn't find files for most recent app

Doesn't titanimum backup allow this? I've never personally tried it but I thought I saw a move app to SD card option.
From what I understand this cant be done on JB.

Every time I try to download anything the default location is the internal sd card. I try to switch it to choose the external sd card but it says "Can't find file or directory. Please make sure your SD card is ready, and USB Mass Storage is turned off."
I can not find the setting for the USB Mass Storage. But I'm able to see the sd card and see the folders and files I have on there with ES File Explorer.
Any help on this! Thanks!

Solved the problem but it requires root. See my tutorial.

In KitKat, write access to external SD card is blocked, you need to wait for a dev to MOD the system to allow for writing to external SD card.

Try using the My Files app that is built in. As it is not third party it should have full access to the SD card

you cannot move all folders to sd-card or generally in new path.
for example for whatsapp; that s the directory created by app itself and may use it in future
if you remove this folder whatsapp will recreate it when needed but maybe u miss some files from whatsapp.
(in Android 4.4.+ 3rd party Apps cannot create file in External Memory (only system app can do this))
sd-card is good for your media music, photos, videos
if you don't want to miss any important folder use this setting;
Settings > Storage > (scroll down) Transfer Data to SD card
:good:
Hit Thanks if it s useful

What I want to do is avoid whatsapp and other apps to save media in local storage.
Is that possible? Thanks in advance.

So App won't do this
unless u use Root App
app that get root access (so u need to root ur device and etc.)
example of pre-install app is Camera App that has option to store both in internal and external but other app cannot do this.
+ hit thanks Button instead of typing it

My phone's already rooted. So I have to find a modified version of whatsapp ?
YES you can do what you want, get an app called foldermount, with that you can symlink ANY folder you want (including WhatsApp, large game folders, camera directory or whatever) from your internal sd card to the external sd card.
Edit: sorry you will also need handle external storage from xposed for it to be able to use the external sd
Your welcome

I set spotify to download two playlist in order to be able to play them in offline mode.
Spotify alone is occupying 7gb of my internal memory. How can I move those files to the memory card (sd) ?
Folder mount
I tried wiping my SD card but it is asking for a PIN password.
I have no idea what is it.
I tried 0000 1245 but failed.
Does anyone know?
Any info in any of those XML files?

Yep, whatsapp is saving to internal memory.
Is it possible to install apps to your sd card?
At this point I'm unable to download larger apps (2gb+) due to the smallish internal memory of the phone. An example App is Icewind Dale, I'm able to get the apk and install it, but it will not download obb data to the sd card at all.
Thank you for any help!

Try link2sd. I can change the default install location but mine's rooted. Move as many of your other apps to SD as you can.

What I've observed is that some apps can be moved to SD and some can't. Being rooted and having link2sd helps, and link2sd will let you set the default install path to SD (with root). But some things like Chrome can't be moved. I think it has to do with hard-coded paths in some apps and not others. And then there's the Android 5+ nonsense about not using SD to promote the cloud. Might be worth looking into Ubuntu instead of Android. Sadly, Google is a company making decisions they think will maximize profit. Ubuntu doesn't have a vested interest.
2 gigs for one app, no way would I want such a thing unless I had a terabyte of internal memory. That's bloatware.
