Rooting ATT HTC One - AT&T HTC One (M7)

Okay so im going to root my friends AT&t htc one. He has Sense 5 4.1.2 and 1.26.501.12 as his software number. I know i can unlock his bootloader using HTC Dev and then i can s-off using Rumrunner or which exploit to give him s-off?I see that people using rumrunner have 4.3 with hboot 1.5 i believe. Now based on my searching i dont need any special firmware hboot radio ect in order to flash 4.4 AOSP roms on this phone correct? What i was planning on doing was s-off then flashing Dirty Unicorns or maybe converting it to the M7_ul for Sense 6.

This is just my opinion but you should leave their phone on stock Sense roms
Rumrunner will work on 4.1.2 but you have to have a rom installed with insecure kernel like ARHD 31.6 here > http://www.androidrevolution.org/downloader/download.php?file=Android_Revolution_HD-One_31.6.zip
here's all the steps
unlock bootloader at htcdev
flash twrp 2.6.3.3
http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-m7.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
put the ARHD rom on the phone and flash it
s-off with RumRunner or firewater
then flash the new firmware to get everything up to date
http://d-h.st/a1w
instructions on flashing firmware are here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2419699
Now your all set to start flashing any roms you like
The new ARHD 61 and Insertcoin 6th Sense are Sweet !!!

thanks he wanted Sense 6 but i thought it was only for the M7_ul so i guess he'll be happy getting sense 6. On HTC Dev i pick all other supported devices correct? Also the firmware you linked is that 4.4 radios hboot ect? Also after updating firmware i will still have s-off because it wont touch Hboot correct? The ARHD that you linked to flash so i can use Rumrunner it works on AT&T m7 correct? And i wont need to convert his One to a international version in order to Flash insert coin? because i see its in the international section or do roms from international One work on the AT&T and T-mobile variants?

All the gsm variants of the htc one are all rom compatible with each other unless directed other wise. If your s off you won't lose it if you upgrade from most threads on xda.

[Q] HTC Rezound on Global 4.03.605.2 with juopunutbear S-OFF and HBOOT. What now?

Was on rooted stock for the longest time and finally got tired of it and installed the Global ICS RUU and got Juopunutbear S-OFF. My bootloader screen says juopunutbear now instead of tampered/locked/unlocked now.
Had a few questions that I didn't find the answers to.
Do I still need HTCDev unlock?
How Do I root?
What recovery do I use? I was going to go with TWRP 2.5 but they apparently don't support it for Rezound, any recommendations would be welcome.
Thanks!!

No more HTC dev unlock. Find vinyl freaks thread for his modified hboot 2.27 in ph98img form and flash that from hboot. Once that's done flash a custom recovery via fast boot. You'll then be able to flash superuser/busybox from recovery and end up with a rooted version of that ruu. Alternatively, you could just flash a new custom ROM from recovery once you hit that step. Enjoy s-off!!
I still use amon 3.16. No problems with it for me. Ymmv

Does VinylFreaks hboot have some advantage over jpbear's? Once the recovery was flashed I was planning to flash CM10 or 4.2 AOKP if i could find it. Is that a bad idea?

Android versions/ Touch panels

Okay, so I am completely new to all of this.
Some of my specs are currently
Android version: 4.1.1
Software: MeanBean_3.90
HTC Sense version: 4+
s-ON
My question is... I want to upgrade to JellyBean ROMs/Mods
Can I change my android version without damaging my ability to relock my phone?
I mean. Can I still return my phone to factory (unroot same software etc) if I update my Android version?
Also I tried to return my phone to stock but I am just getting TWRP set up over and over... Do I just need to flash the factory software?
Or do I use the Build number as a guide for an exe file?
Also does anyone know about the "Operation Jelly Bean" ROM by the Anonymous team?
I flashed the ROM, I love the ROM but the touch panel DOES NOT work for me.
According to the specs I should be able to use it?
Anyone else with s-ON try to use it and have issues with the touch panel?
or does anyone have any insight?
You can do whatever you want and still be able to return your phone to factory stock, although gaining S-off will make this easier, since you can use the VipeRUU tool to get you back totally stock. The tool requires you to be S-off.
You can't use Operation Jelly Bean because you are on the 3.16 software version, which includes an upgraded touch panel driver so you can only use 3.16 ROM's or AOSP ROM's with the 3.4 kernel. Operation Jelly Bean is 3.15 based. You must also use TWRP 2.4+. You can get S-off and downgrade your touch panel driver to the previous version & run whatever ROM you want.

just everything else. Though I am getting more comfortable with playing with it. less panic.

Should I actually attempt another method, in your personal opinion, which is better for s-OFF?
(Attempted DirtyRacun but was unsure about the Linux download)
If you're Hboot is version 2.09 and your radio (baseband) ends in 1210, you need to use Moonshine.

I changed to a stock ROM the Radio ends in 0830?
Do I just need to find stock ROMs and find one that ends with 1210?
I have tried to run the distiller (read everything uninstalled HTC sync from windows Programs)
But my distiller fails.
If I run it on the Blues and Jazz ROM it fully flashes the SuperCID (120/120 Fastboot)
But it will fail at the adb flash (around 50/120)

Boot into the bootloader and list your full radio (baseband) version, not just the last 4 digits.
Also keep in mind that custom ROM's do not include firmware (radio, etc.). So flashing a ROM in and of itself will not change your firmware version. That's something you have to do separately from the ROM. The only thing that may change is your software version, depending on the ROM.

Sure. You can use any ROM based on software version 3.16 or 3.17, and any AOSP ROM with the 3.4 kernel. You'll just have to flash the ROM with Flash Image GUI or fastboot commands depending on the ROM.

Right. On Sense ROM's make sure they're at least version 3.16. For AOSP make sure the kernel is 3.4.

Flashing Firmware

I've been snooping around the international HTC One M7 forums since our AT&T devices are compatible with their ROMs. I was gonna flash the latest (42.0.0) MaximusHD ROM, but there's a firmware download for 6.06.401.1 available. Is it okay to flash this file in recovery or not? Sorry if this is a nooby question, but I just wanna make sure I'm correct before I do anything to my precious One. Thanks!
Is it okay to flash this file in recovery or not?
Not how its flashed, its flashed via adb commands
Not needed...not suggested
No, it's not going to flash in recovery. Search the firmware forum because there are specific requirements to meet first before flashing a firmware. You must either be s-off or boot loader locked to get to the RUU. Anyway, I'm very novice so read up before you do anything

Help - Looking for Some Direction - Updating Firmware, s-off needed?

Hi everyone, I'm Josh and I'm a long time reader of XDA. I'm really struggling with the next steps on my HTC one despite reading ton's of information on XDA and many other sources. I could use some help / clarification.
I recently purchased an HTC One m7 ATT version. I've rooted, installed SuperSU, TWRP and unlocked the phone. I was stuck on choosing a rom but I've hit a new snag. I was going to try ViperOne but noticed they insist you install the latest firmware updates first. Here's where I'm lost. I'm running the stock version that came with my phone when it was locked.
Kitkat 4.4.2, Sense 6
FW# - 5.12.502.2
Hboot - 1.57
Radio - 4m.27.3218.14
I can't seem to get the OTA's, how do you get OTA's, do you have to run official att service sim like gophone? Or can you use straight talk like I currently have? Or do you not even need a sim for OTA's? I don't currently have a sim in the phone, was waiting to get all this sorted first. Will OTA's break root? Would it be beneficial to turn the phone into international version to get OTA's faster and would I lost the 4g lte abilities of phone if I did this?
How do I go about putting these firmware updates on, is s-off required even if you use a signed RUU from "androidruu dot com" for example?
I would like to get the latest official firmware releases on the phone and get it updated to kitkat 4.4.4 from the official releases and then put a custom rom on of my choice.
Is any of this even necessary? Are firmware updates included with the Rom's? How is an RUU different than a rom?
Someone, if possible please help me get this all sorted out, I'm so confused, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

You wont get OTA's unless you are stock, you can use this to get back to stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2775650 to be able to receive OTA updates.

No firmwares are never included in ROMs, and RUU reset your phone (both firmware and ROM) to fully stock, but you would need an RUU with same or higher version that you are on now. (with S-ON)
what is latest att firmware
@clsA, nkk71 and I have been talking on the #AndroidRevolution irc channel, we/I am trying to get this resolved to figure out if I need s-off in order to grab latest firmware's before I apply a custom rom because it seems att is way behind everyone else since the rest seem to be 6.0.something. Can you confirm what latest att firmware # is for htc one via their software update on the phone? I have reset phone to stock but it's still stuck on 5.12.xxx.xx (whatever the # is, don't remember right now) and claiming it's up-to-date, trying to figure out if boot-loader also has to be locked in addition to stock rom and stock recovery and root removed (cause I did all that but left bootloader unlocked), I've been reading that it does, but neither of us can confirm this. And do you need official att sim/service to do the updates? Additionally, could you direct to a list of signed firmware updates for flashing with s-on if this is not the latest firmware. Thanks!

Sure ... I recommend converting to the Developers edition for the most updates
after your s-off Change your CID fastboot oem writecid BS_US001
then flash this RUU >> http://www.androidruu.com/getdownlo...8_10.38r.1157.04L_release_353887_signed_3.exe
And then you can take OTA updates up to the current 6.07.1540.2 (3 updates I think)
I'm uploading the file's I used Here >> https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=24178
Their is also a RUU now from HTC >> http://dl3.htc.com/application/RUU_...4_10.33E.1718.01L_release_404528_signed_2.exe
bricked / boot hang / fixed with reset

@clsA, thank you so much for that, I actually ended up following @vomer 's guide and turning it into super CID because it seemed that the firmware updates were newer than the developer ones oddly enough, 6.0.9 and 6.0.9.xxx.10 and then there's 6.0.9.xxx.11 and .12 but this is where i hit a snag, all went smoothly using vomers firmwares up till 6.0.9.xxx.10 but then i tried to flash the .11 and .12 from ARHD and the device bricked/ hangs on boot....ended up having to use adb push to get your reset on there and reset the device, flash the original firmware etc...phone is working again (I was tempted to panic but maintained control ;P) but ultimately means i wasted a bunch of time only to have start over again....for now I've left it 5.12 and stock....maybe you could help figure out what went wrong when you get a chance.
Thanks.!
i left recovery and root on during the reset just in case it didn't work but did flash back the stock radio for that rom as well

Theirs nothing wrong with the Stock 5.12.502 firmware from AT&T in fact it's one of the most stable. You can flash mostly any rom you want with that firmware installed. The reason I recommend the Developer edition right now is because Lollipop+Sense is due out any day now on that model.
how to proceed

@clsA, I was bent on the firmware update to take advantage of latest enhancements with ARHD and they recommended at least v6 xxx .11 eventhough the rom is based on v6 xxx.12, viperone also strongly advised latest firmware updates....does the developer versions you sent me have the calling fix for when the audio in the call was lost because of google update? Also, quick question, why did you include the 4 xxx something base firmware...i can just proceed with the CID change and start at the 6 series firmwares because I'm already at later version with att stock 5.12 right?
Any idea what happened the other night with the bricking - would boot, hang on black screen after first htc logo on white background and then just have the hardware touch buttons lit....was it because the firmwares ARHD posted required the bootloader to be re-locked? (failed to notice this until after I had semi-bricked it)
Also, what backup app would you recommend? looking to restore all my apps and settings after these wipes etc...getting tired of redoing it all again each time.
Thanks!

The Developers Edition 4.x RUU is the last RUU .. then it's 3 updates and your at the current version and ready for the Lollipop update
The ARHD International firmware needs the MID changed to work, You can eather edit the android_info.txt or change you MID to make them work

@clsA, hmm, did not see that anywhere in the post...def. did not change MID...but they did specify needing locked bootloader, any idea why? will either of those cause the boot problem I described? Or can the firmware after 6.xxx.10 be incompatible with the att stock rom and i actually needed to flash a rom before proceeding?
When you said earlier "And then you can take OTA updates up to the current 6.07.1540.2 (3 updates I think)" you mean flash them or can take them via the OTA update service....in the dev edition does the built in OTA update service work with unlock and root?
what version does .401 mean, is that international? I know the .1540 designates developer edition.
What backup for settings and apps would you recommend, would titanium suffice?
Thanks again for all the help.

Lollipop is coming in the next few days. Just go back to post #11 and flash the RUU and the OTA updates
I gave you the link to all the file's I used. Your S-off no need to lock the bootloader and you flash the OTA updates from stock recovery yourself
just download them all to your phone sdcard and flash them in order.
I use HTC Backup is all I need. And google keeps my contacts and calender

Depends on what you mean "Try Out " ? you aether convert to Full GPe or you flash a rom.
If you convert, you simple change your CID and flash the RUU.
If you want to just see if it's for you, flash the rom .. I like this one >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one/development/rom-google-play-edition-lollipop-v1-00-t2963927
But it does require the latest firmware so yes post #11 would get you to the newest firmware

[Q] How to achieve S-OFF?

Is there a way to achieve S-OFF as of this year? I have been browsing the xda ATT HTC One m8 forums for awhile and I came across firewater and sunshine. Firewater has been discontinued and with sunshine I keep getting an error message saying "Sunshine can not be used with your device as it is. You need to flash a stock ROM, or a nearer stock ROM." I'm on a stock Sense ROM(with some mods of course) but it's stock enough right? I want to get S-OFF because I eventually want to change my phone into the Google Play Edition device. Any help or direction/s to a thread with info or your own instructions will be greatly appreciated.

Since you are going to change out to GPE, you may as well bite the bullet and send your phone back to stock, then run Sunshine.
I did and am now running Developer Edition happily.

Specifically...You need the kernel to be 100% stock. Grab the boot.img from the firmware zip that matches your phone and flash it via fastboot. Sunshine will then work.
Where can I find the boot.img? And what does the boot.img do?(what is it)
Has anyone heard of Moonshine? I've seen that and they claim s-off and it's free. I really don't want to pay $25 to s-off my device. Thanks in advance!

That's your kernel. Stock ones can be found in firmware.zip that are included in the ota zip

Moonshine is old, and never worked for the M8.
Sunshine is the only option.

I am downloading an OTA zip found at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...nt/att-stock-backups-recoveries-otas-t2855966
and I want to know how to flash the boot.img and will I need to do anything afterwards? Will I need to use adb or fastboot and if so, what commands do I use? When or if i flash the boot.img will I need to flash a new ROM with it? Or if there is a thread for doing this?

I just flashed the boot.img and now I'm on kernal version 3.4.0-gaabcaed. I tried to use sunshine but it said the same thing as before. Any suggestions?
What is you hboot number?
I just converted my AT&T M8 into GPE device. I searched enough for a week before realizing that there is no way to S-OFF without sunshine. I eventually paid the $25 and am happily running an S-OFF device now. Moonshine didn't work and firewater is discontinued.

The OP has clearly stated that they are trying to use sunshine, but its not working for them.
Stock ROM and stock kernel are best for sunshine (and not having these may be interfering). Or being on hboot 3.19 renders sunshine unable to s-off (and you can't downgrade hboot with s-on by definition); which is why I asked OP what hboot is currently on the device.
I have a similar problem - here's the twist:
Hboot *IS* 3.19. Sunshine didn't work, and the message was simply: phone incompatible, it's a known issue, we're working on it.
AND... I don't KNOW my firmware version, because I used a version of twrp when rooting the phone that had a bug with just that effect - you can't see your firmware version.
I wanted S-off specifically so as to flash the latest ATT firmware to alleviate that problem.
The ultimate goal is to get viper on the phone.
What can I do? Thanks to all in advance!

Hboot 3.19 and s-on (on an AT&T M8) means you are on 3.28 firmware (Android 4.4.4).
So sunshine won't work, and you won't be able to update the firmware to run any Sense Lollipop ROMs until either sunshine is updated to support your hboot (new exploit needs to be found, basically) or AT&T releases the LP update (after which you can update the firmware by "official" means).
I responded to your other thread, so you can read a more detailed explanation of "firmware number" there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59480010&postcount=19
