I have a Verizon Galaxy Note 2 that I am trying to get to work with AT&T. The phone is rooted and I have the awesome N3BULA rom installed. AT&T is now cheaper so I am switching over. Verizon is just too darn expensive.
I went by my local AT&T store and picked up a new SIM card, brought it home and put in my phone. Called AT&T and activated the sim card on my plan (they said for some reason the IMEI was showing a tablet, I explained it was a global phone and they activated the card). I was told to turn the phone off and wait 5 minutes and turn back on and it would be working.
When I turn the phone on I am not showing a signal, all I am getting is a circle with a slash through it. Hate to call them back before I check to see if there's anything else I need to do to get it working. I have added the APN information but still no go.
Anyone have any suggestions? Many thanks in advance.
Tim

No, didn't think I needed to. Thought others had just put in an at&t sim card and started using their phones.
No go into settings, more settings, mobile networks, network mode. Change it to gsm

Tried switching to both GSM and Global and neither had any affect. Could it be the custom rom changed the radios and caused this?
I doubt. The i605 has a different radio from all the other note 2 iirc. Hmm screen shot your apn settings and post them. I'm using my i605 on at&t on a Verizon rom

I've searched quite a bit and I saw a few threads that said that the Verizon GS4 comes sim unlocked. But I put in a friends Sprint Sim and I got an error message that said "non verizon sim." I also saw tutorials on how to go into the phones menu by typing *#06# or *#0011# but these do not work on my phone. Is there a code that will work on my phone? Also, do I have to install a custom ROM on this phone to get the sim unlocked? I really don't want to go that route but if I have to I will.
Sprint SIM probably isn't compatible. Try a GSM carrier SIM.
I tried the T-mobile version Straight Talk card and it says the same. "non-verizon SIM"
OK. I found out that you have to enable the hidden menus first. There is a forum here that talks about it. It's titled [how to] Enable Hidden Menus for Verizon Galaxy S4. And from there you can sim unlock.
I've seen reports that people where getting non- verizon sim message but phone still worked on other carriers.
This is true. I have put in an active ATT sim got "non-Verizon SIM" message and could still make calls and Internet from the ATT SIM.

This is only works with gsm. The cdma side is still locked unless you call Verizon and get them to unlock it.

I am currently in China and trying to get my sch-i545 to work with a sim card I purchased. While my phone is able to recognize that the sim card is there I recieve the message that the sim card is from an unknown source. Is there any way to fix this with the sch-i545 even though it is not the international version of the phone.

Are they capable of doing this with the S4? Assuming they are, are you speaking theoretically or with certainty? Could you confirm via experience or perhaps cite the information?
Reason I'm asking I tried to use a non-Verizon sim once with limited success on an S3. Called Verizon to see if it was a sim-lock related issue and they insisted that the phone shipped as unlocked as could possibly be, which would contradict your statement assuming the same holds true for the S4.

That's interesting, but doesn't answer my question - that being about Verizon being able to unlock the S4 for CDMA carriers. I'm aware that it's GSM unlocked.

Sorry I misunderstood. Don't mention sim unlock to them since the cdma doesn't use the sim. There is another thread floating around here that mentioned this but I couldn't find it. What it boiled dien to was telling that you are traveling overseas and would like them to unlock cdma. This doesn't Guarantee that they will. Sorry I couldn't find the link.

Anyone ever call Verizon and had their s4 or S3 unlocked thru them before who finished their contract? If so can you explain what the process was they walked you thru?
I popped in a tmobile sim in my vzw s4 and it worked without any mids. It just says unknown sim but it works

Actually it's quite easy to do. You go on your My Verizon account, or call them and add the $4.99 international package. That does NOT include any data, only the capability to use it on CDMA elsewhere or the Global option on your Verizon Sim.
I recently traveled to Sweden and have used several different Verizon phones (with International SIM) outside the USA and not had issues.
The "Non-Verizon" sim message has absolutely no bearing on being able to use another sim in the phone, its UNLOCKED. If it's a GSM simcard voice will work no problem, data you have to add APN in. You cannot use a Sprint SIM because like Verizon they use authentication by way of ESN or IMEI to be registered on their CDMA network. So it just won't authenticate.
So you don't need to SIM unlock, it's already unlocked.
I tried L720 unlock mode, failed

Adding this feature does not cost anything on my unlimited plan. Only if you want to add additional global data and voice rate plans does it cost to enable the feature.
OK so in that case how do we get 3g and higher speeds when using other Sims? I took mine too ATT they put in the sim and still wouldn't get more then Edge data, We also have a Ver S3 that we have on ST prepay and put in the APNS and we still can't get above edge data either. Here the thing, the s4 is global ready yet it still has some kind of lock to prevent data so has anyone ever contacted Verizon after theit contract to come about unlocking their device to use on other carriers? What is the point of buying these phones, if they won't unlock then for us after contact is up? It would still be there phone, seems were just leasing it cause we can't take it with us to another carrier. Any guide to get these unlocked for3g and data please?!!
I am trying to get my samsung note 2 onto the straight talk network that uses the verizon towers. My phone is a global phone so I can use the at&t or t-mobile services through straight talk but I would prefer to run off verizon towers as I would have better service. I have recently contacted Straight talk and they do still use verizon towers but they will not allow a 4g phone onto this network. Just as Verizon Prepaid plans will not allow a 4g phone I assume. They do allow 4g phones for att and tmobile however. I know you can flash a 4g phone to work with verizon's prepaid however I am not sure if I can do the same for straight talk. Will I even need to flash? Please help!
Android Version: 4.1.2
I hope this is the right section for this post. Thanks!
Just look for a good ROM 4.2.2 and below. I have had many issues with no service at all running 4.3 ROMs. All you have to do is Google the best APN settings for straight talk. I'm on net10 so I cant help with that, but yeah. I'm running avatar rom if that helps you with a rom to use :3

Yes, that does help. Now I know where to start. I will find a good ROM and try to find the APN settings. If I do find the correct APN settings will I need a verizon straight talk sim card for my phone or will I just have to go on their site or call them to activate without the sim? Any information on how I can activate my Note 2 to the verizon straight talk network would be helpful. Or would I just have to get the Verizon straight talk sim and just enter the correct apn settings and just plug in and use the phone?
I would not be opposed to using net 10 however. I am just looking for a semi affordable pre paid service that runs off verizon's towers. Considering I pay $130 a month for my service with verizon, it wouldn't take much to beat what I am paying now.
There is no verizon straight talk sim cards. This will probably only be possible with a donor phone.

Is there a tutorial somewhere on using a donor phone to get on the Verizon side? That is what I did with my fascinate and want to do the same with a note 2

I have a rooted phone with jelly beans rom I am able to ADD Networks to the ROM Software also I can do it with HIAPN Software. But nothing works. What am I doing wrong. Its a Verizon i605 Note 2 which I would like to Try STRAIGHT TALK using AT&T Towers. I have tried 2 different At&t straight talk SIMS. Neither one will bring up SIGNAL on my screen. The last card I bought says for At&t compatibly phones or UNLOCKED GSM Phones. My phone is UNLOCKED am I imputing the wrong DATA in the APN Info area can someone help me here find what is causing my problem. Frank [email protected]
The only CDMA-based phones that work on Straight Talk are the ones that Straight Talk sells directly. The "bring your own phone" method only works with GSM (AT&T, T-Mobile) phones.

Hey guys I went to unlock my Verizon s4 via the service menu and everything worked fine. My tmobile I'm card works. But now when I put my Verizon sim card back in it only gets 1x service and sometimes it says im roaming. I tried clicking the default apn changing from global to cdma fixes it for a split second. And when I go to status it just says network unknown. I cleaned my sim and no luck. What could be wrong!?!

Sometimes unfortunately, you need to call Verizon. I know, no one wants to talk to those people but I had to call them myself when I was switching phones and couldn't get things going.
Not sure what the heck they did but it worked. Good luck though I hope you get it working.

I tried re locking it through the service menu and a bunch of other things like changing lte options and nothing worked. I accidently put In the code to factory reset my phone through recovery and it magically came back. Idk how it worked but I don't care as long as it works now. Haha
You have to call Verizon
They will ask you for the number on the sim card to reactivate

is it possible to have a phone flashed badly or wrong? My Samsung Galaxy S4 was originally a U.S Cellular device, but was flashed to Verizon Prepaid. I basically have NO 3G. If and when the icon pops up, the minute I try to search or do anything it disappears.
My phone calls are fine, but my data is averaging 1X to nothing at all. Sometimes I cant even get a picture message out. I is driving me nuts, Especially when your paying for a service you cant use.
Was it possible that it was flashed wrong or bad? or is this something else. I have been trying to get it taken care o by Cricket King (ebay) but I think they think its on my end.
Any help or advice would be appreciated. Should I have it re flashed
Hmmm....I'm not a developer, but I do troubleshoot. Are you using Verizon SIM card? I believe once it's active and inserted you should have full functionality.

I'm no Dev either, but did you set up the APN settings right? I would assume since it was flashed to a different network you would need to set it back up to work on the Verizon network. As for what those settings are I'm not sure. I've always been on Verizon and haven't had to mess with that stuff

Usually it ends up just being the APN's or the sim card. Since these phones are already unlocked it doesn't take much to get them going on another network

Well the guy who flashed it said he would probably have to change the PRL? Does this sound right?
NOTE** I am not using a SIM card (I don't believe ) Does this sound right? It was originally set up for U.S Cellular, bit was flashed to Verizon prepaid

Well I don't know about the PRL much myself. I know my sprint s4 needed the prl updated from time to time but that's sprint.
And your sure your not using a sim? I'll be honest I'm not really sure about switching carriers and all that. Just from what I've read on here I've seen many people do it fairly easy.

You must be using a SIM card because both U.S Cellular and Verizon need a SIM card. But to update the PRL type in your phone *228 and it should come up with a message saying it has been updated. Even though 4GLTE devices automatically update. Also, I would go into Settings, Connections, More networks, Mobile networks, Access Point Names, and make sure there is a green dot next to Verizon.
