I just upgraded to Kit Kat and I'm trying to root my phone.
I tried the method posted by qbking77 and it runs through the whole process just fine. I downloaded Root Checker and it says I do not have root. What am I missing?
I have an SM-N900P Note 3, Android version 4.4.2, Baseband is N900PVPUCNAB, Build number KOT49H.N900PVPUCNAB
Edit: In the video by qbking, he is using Odin 1.85, I am using Odin 3.07. Not sure if this is different for Jelly Bean vs. Kit Kat and in Odin 3.07, the box that he says should be yellow, in my Odin 3.07 it is a light blue.
Edit 2: I tried Odin 1.85 and it went through the whole process and same result... no root.
Someone please help! Being stock is killing me!!!

Ok, so I ran the 9005 CF Auto Root, installed TWRP 2.7.01 using ODIN and then installed SU from the play store. I tried Root Checker and it still says I do not have root..

This work for the AT&T it might work of you guy as will. You need someone to test it. You need to be on a stock rooted and no custom recovery.
You might whan to try this on MD2 stock rooted.

I was able to update my I337 to the 7/9 release of MF3 and retain root.
1. Install VooDoo OTA Root Keeper, make sure all boxes are checked (may have to reinstall superuser and grant to the app)
2. Reboot, double check VooDoo OTA Root Keeper again has all checked boxes, then tell it to save root
3. Defrost/Enable AT&T Software Update, download it and apply
4. Reboot, Use VooDoo OTA Root Keeper to restore root
5. Profit

I suppose that would be some actual profit. There were some users stating that this method would work for our phone in other threads but most of us don't want to risk it or be without a custom recovery in the first place. But something like this, for me, will be given a shot later on today when my AT&T S4 arrives

For the fun of it I tried VooDoo and SuperSU Pro's feature and TWRP installed but of course it didn't install the update so I'll have to wait until I get home to put the stock recovery back on and try again. Poo.
I'm sure folks have already thought of this but check out the other Galaxy S4 forums like the Sprint one. Maybe certain items are common in the updates and can be flashed on our VZW device.

Maybe factory reset, reinstall voodoo root keeper and try again???? Update should have worked based on the steps you took. I've never heard of an ota not installing because of root.
So I did something really really dumb and did the OTA update to 4.3 then tried to "downgrade" to 4.1.x using oden and now I cant use my device. Does anyone have the OTA update for 4.3 available for download that I can try to fix my phone with?!?

Meat & Potatoes:
I tried ODINing my GN2 back to stock 4.1.2 tonight - I rooted it a couple months ago. Did not install a custom ROM, just rooted (the process also replaced the Recovery).
Tried ODINing back to stock using the files and information found in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024207
When I run ODIN, it simply fails. Tells me "0 succeeded / 1 failed". Phone still works, I just can't get anywhere in the rolling back to stock bit.
Longer Version:
I've had the phone since the end of January 2013. I rooted it for a couple of reasons, mostly to get rid of bloatware, but also for an app or two that needed root access. I've had zero problems with usability or stability of the device before or since the rooting.
I couldn't tell you which root process I used, but I know it came from an XDA thread, and it automatically replaced the recovery with something touch-based. I'm not sure of the name of the recovery. It did not replace the ROM - I've had less than desirable results from using non-stock ROMs in the past on a handful of other devices, so I wasn't about to risk it.
Since VZW is rolling out the 4.3 update and it looks like a good deal, I want to get my phone back to non-rooted, non-custom-recovery'd state so I can install the update. I'm also doing it because I'm hoping they get the phone up to 4.4 down the line so I can use HCE and GWallet.
Currently, I'm downloading (very slowly, thanks sammobile, for not hosting files on your own servers) the stock VZW 4.3 package from Sammobile.com in hopes I can do something with that and just go straight up from where I am, but I'm not holding my breath since the OTA fails due to the custom recovery.
Any thoughts on what I might try differently to get ODIN to work?
Guys I had the same issue. What I did to resolve my issue is:
1. Get the Verizon upgrade assistance installed on your PC . Here's one from scoobysnack (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47368638&postcount=7&nocache=1&z=2813086102250963)
2. Boot to download mode
3. plug in USB and wait for the update message on your PC
4. Update should take about 30-40 min depending on your connection speeds.
5. once updated, your phone should boot back to normal, but you will LOSE everything and have to start all over.
Hope this helps.

I've read that the servers were overloaded, so they stopped the updates, and started rolling them out in stages. If what the 'internet' says is true, another 20% of users, will get the update Monday, and then another 20% sometimes after that.
If that's really the case, that probably explains why it says you're up to date (because you are up to date, based on what's available to you at that moment).

I was asked to make this one-click to help simplify the process of flashing the new NAB Engineering Bootloader for our Note 3 users. A huge thanks to @freeza for posting it the original Bootloader TAR!
For more information on what the Bootloader is and isn't please visit his thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2655674.
I do not own a Note 3 so I have not been able to test this as I would normally prefer to do before releasing. I do however feel comfortable that it should work as designed.
Before proceeding please verify that you are already on either the NAB or NABD builds. If you are, feel free to proceed.
If you are not DO NOT proceed, you will brick your device.
Instructions:
1: Download the NAB Engineering or Stock Bootloader One-Click.
"SM-N900P NAB Engineering Bootloader.exe"
"SM-N900P_NAB_Stock_Bootloader.exe"
2: Start the Odin One-Click.
Navigate to the location where the Bootloader.exe was saved.
Double-click on Bootloader.exe". *On Vista or newer, you may need to right-click on the file and Run as Administrator.
3: Place phone in Download Mode.
- Power phone completely off.
- Press and hold Volume Down, Home and Power buttons, all at the same time.
- Release the buttons only when the ‘Warning!!’ message appears.
- Press [Volume Up] to enter Download mode.
4: Connect USB cable to PC and phone.
Odin should show a yellow COM port in the second column. If you do not see a yellow COM port, you may need to run the Odin One-Click as Administrator and/or unplug/plugin the USB cable after starting Odin One-Click.
5: Start Odin flash process.
Press [Start].
6: Complete - PASS!
Status should change to green PASS! At this point your phone should automatically reboot.
Enjoy!

@rwilco12 Do you think you can also release the official non-engineering edition bootloader tar for us to flash? I'm currently on the engineering edition but all those lines at boot are kind of tripping my OCD.

Boy this is why I love choices. I prefer the engineering/open bootloader, others prefer stock. Having both is an excellent thing indeed.
Glad we have this, that you requested it, and that Rwilco12 published it.
Everyone benefits.
More cowbell.
I bet a dime.
Triband cubed.

sweet, thanks!
what's the difference between engineering and stock?
HELP!
As usual these things never work for me. I followed all the steps in the OP and my phone stock in a Bootloop. So I tried running Freeza's stock tar, and now I see all the code stuff on my screen right above the "Samsung Galaxy Note 3" screen. But my phone is still in a Bootloop. Can anybody point me in the right direction to fix this?
Thanks

Were you already on a KK build? The OP has it in RED text that you already had to be on a KK build for this to work. That's the only thing j can think of.

Damn it. That's it. That's what's wrong. My non-reading ass. Sh**. Is there anyway to flash the Full Stock ROM thru ODIN and then Root again?

Damn man, IDK. I would PM the OP or Freeza. My personal guess would be to flash the official KK tar in Odin (the one that Freeza posted.) However, IDK if that will work. You need some advice from someone who actually knows what they're doing.

Hadnt heard back from Freeza yet so, I flashed his stock tar (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2655883) and it restored my phone and updated it to KitKat. All of my apps and things are here but I'm not rooted. So, going to do that now

Cool, happy that worked. The way I gained root was by flashing Phil's CWM in Odin then entering recovery. Once in recovery there is an option to check for root. It will prompt you to reboot and when your up and running go to the Play Store and D/L SuperSU. That's what I did at least.

Yes. Just flash superuser in recovery (i prefer twrp) and you will be all set. Open it once booted and disable Knox

Hey guys! I updated via kies, and I now tried to Odin so I could send this phone back to Samsung. Odin failed right after aboot, and now fails every time saying fused:6 binary:5. I need to get this phone wiped so I can package it up before I go to work. Thanks

You were either using the MK2 or the MJ7 Odin tar because their binary value is set to 5. Flashing either the NC2 leak or NC5 Odin tar will resolve your issues.

Beat me to it, for future reference you can't downgrade with Odin, anytime you have a failed flash in Odin with a binary value lower than fused value, that's exactly what your trying to do.
As Surge sort of mentions, the only caveat to that rule for our model is downgrading from mk2 to mj7, which have the same binary values because mk2 was a minor upgrade.
