As the title states, I have been away from the android rooting and development scene and things have changed. I have read about apps and a script that will backup bloatware apps and then remove them, how has the experiences been with these methods as opposed to using titanium back up and doing it individually? I don't care about custom rooms or the sorts just don't want the crap on the device. Thanks in advance.

NoBloat Free by TVK Development works well. Just be careful and don't delete any system apps (Android guy icon).
Here is the link:

VZW always sticks us with all this bloatware and everyone hates it. I don't even want to see it there. Especially the VZW Navigation, Backup Assistant, and Media Manager.
But, I got started thinking. Besides just looking annoying, how much does their simple presence really matter? What is gained by removing them besides I just don't have to look at them?
These "unused" apps sometimes run in the background and take up precious ram which may in turn slow the phone down. For people who are neat freaks (like me), I like to clean out any useless apps because they are unnecessary and take up room on my phones screens and memory.
I currently have my OG Incredible and will be moving onto the RZ so ram may not be as much of an issue to you guys, however, why have something on your phone which you don't use and could potentially slow your phone down? Not me
Does anyone have a list of what apps are safe to remove?

There is a list of apps which you can safely freeze using Titanium Backup over in the DEV forums:

We are still eMMC write locked so unless that app only freezes stuff, it won't help. Removing the APK doesn't do anything because it doesn't actually get removed.
I haven't seen a list of bloatware / AT&T apps that are safe to remove. So I thought I will ask:
- Which apps that you know are NOT SAFE to remove?
- I keep seeing in the task bar a double-arrow icon, indicating that an AT&T app is checking for software update. As a matter of fact, I did receive a message from it about a new software update. Which .apk I need to disable for this?
Again, this is only for the bloatware.
I deleted everything that had at&t in front of it. At&t messaging, my at&t, at&t navigation and the at&t update services thats the blue and red arrows you are seeing. I did this through task manager.

I should also mention that I am rooted using a stock gingerbread rom.

Thanks for the info. No problem so far with freezing these AT&T apps, including AT&T Update Services?
BTW, when you said "delete", did you mean "freezing it with Titanium Backup" or you actually REMOVE the .apk?
I froze the above apps using TB, but it is still shown in Google Play as being installed and needing update.
You can search XDA for "apps safe to remove". The SGS-II forums have a spreadsheet that works for the note.

With Google Play, the feature to DETACH from Market no longer works. So even if the app is frozen, it is still shown in Google Play, especially if there is an update.
This applies to ALL bloatware. After a while, you'll see tons of these in your Google Play list and you no longer can select
"Update All".
Can we SAFELY move the .Apk from /system/apps?
I deleted them. I froze them first and then deleted ecerything with at&t on it through task manager.

I delete a majority of the bloatware, especially if I know I will never use it.
How did you DELETE these built-in apps?
There is NO uninstall feature, even when accessing it from System --> Applications --> Manage Applications.

If you have root on your phone, many third party apps will allow you to delete them. A popular one around here is Titanium Backup. I highly suggest installing this and purchasing the key (although the free version will work just as well). Its a staple in apps to install for rooted phones.
I deleted them through task manager. I used the uninstall feature. Try it.

I use titanium backup to uninstall what I don't want, you have to be rooted though.

Can I delete Social Hub without any problems?
Sent from my Galaxy Note like a boss!
I havent tried the social hub not sure I would since its samsung software.

I have removed Social Hub without issue
Sent from my G-Note Beast.......
same here, social hub deleted and no problems........and of course all the AT&T crap since I'm with TMobile
Just a helpfull hint for safety.
Personaly I would use titanium backup (in batch) to freeze apps you may want to uninstall.. leave them frozen for a few days to ensure there are no problems.. if once your sure there are no problems you can uninstall them (delete).. Uninstall can be done most of the time though the task manager .. but if that does not work titanium backup will most defently do it..
As someone else pointed out.. I did a search for i717 app safe to remove and got this nice spread sheet..

How can I delete YouTube?
So I'm relatively new to android in general, and I've always assumed that the stock apps on a manufacturer ROM are just something that are there and you can't do anything about it (They don't normally have an uninstall option from the launcer)
I was playing around with ROM Toolbox and I stumbled across the uninstall apps feature (Which I had previously not used because I figured it was redundant) and discovered, by uninstalling Peep, that it can actually uninstall the stock apps included with my rom.
Is this a bad practice in general or is it something that people do all the time? I don't really want to break things so I'm not going to touch any of the more central services or anything but say I want to uninstall the stock gallery and replace it with a Jellybean one from the market. It won't break everything, right?
People do it all the time.
Just be sure not to delete anything that you think might affect the ROM.
You can also use it to move any app to your SD card.
I love ROM toolbox.

+1. One of the many perks of rooting... Removing bloatware!!!
Thank you much for this thread. And thank you XDA for the implementing the similar thread recommendation feature. Its a win for everyone.
You can also do this with Titanium Backup
I'm new to rooting, what new,root-only apps and features can I get for my tablet?
Thanks.
Must have, root explorer. Used it and removed a lot of bloatware apps. Tablet is quicker as well

I usually attempt to not post my stuff here as it's shameless view whoring when I do it, but here is a link to a piece I'm updating regularly about various root-using apps.
http://www.pocketables.com/2013/04/the-big-list-of-android-root-applications-and-tools.html
Gets updated on average once every week. Should give you a pretty decent idea of what you can do with rooted devices.
Root Explorer, Performance Booster (root) and Titanium Backup are the vital tools you need.

So I've always tried to keep my roms as light as possible, as I don't use many LG functions. Thought I'd share my list!
All the applications listed are frozen with Titanium Backup. Hope someone else will have use for this

A lot of the bloatware can actually be uninstalled. Just be sure to have a Nandroid backup ready (don't do this if you don't have a custom recovery and a backup), because uninstalling some things can cause a Security Error when you try to boot. I found out the hard way yesterday that uninstalling LGSmartcardService will cause that error, but I was able to remove a lot of other things.

It would be helpful if you can list out the 'Safe to Remove' bloatware if possible,
Right. But the /system partition isn't really readily available for anything useful, so I settled with freezing it at the moment. I've heard of people running into trouble when actually removing the apps before as well, beware!

I use Spotify, Google Music for local content! I don't watch other videos than those in my gallery, for which I use the Photos app that comes with Google Plus.
