Hi guys,
Got a strange issue since a month.
When I get called the caller sounds very disorted and there is a lot of noise going on. It's barely understandable.
Same happens when I call someone.
The problem doesn't always occour but it's way too often to simply ignore it.
When I hang up and call back directly afterwards everything is fine.
I'm running Endrohix on my SGS3 atm.
This also happened to me with Archidroid and other ASOP roms. Haven't tried Stock Roms since I don't like them and there has to be another solution than going back to stock.
Greetings from Austria!
Change your kernel and check.
So i tried a lots of roms now. All sammy roms seem fine, as soon as it gets to AOSP (Omi, CM, Archidroid) the problem occurs. Tried a few kernel now, all seem to have the problem. Mainly tested Boffela and agni kernels and both have the same strange issue
nobody an idea?
Hardware
Seems like it's a hardware problem. Why don't you just go to a repair shop with that?
*#0*# test sound is OK??
How can it be a hardware problem if its working fine with sammy roms?
*#0*# gives me MMI-Error.
Had a chance to test on a few other cars today and found out something interesting!
Accepting a call by using the phone gives me a 50% chance to work, accepting it by the car radio always causes the sound bug
@verny94 ill test the setup in your signature and see if it works.. EDIT: just saw your's is sammy based, i'm pretty sure it will work

*#0*# is service menu. It must works but only on Sammy ROM.
I am really proud that my signature help you
Alright so I'm running Omega now and the sound problem is gone. But still i miss the speed of my Archidroid
BTW! I completly forgot to mention.. the strange noises only occour when i'm trying to talk over Bluetooth so if I make calls without bluetooth connection they work fine but if there is a hands-free or a car-radio involved the problems start

LMAO you mentioned the important part in the end
AOSP/CM based roms have had some bluetooth issues. Either not clear or breaks intermittently.
You can try Sammy or Sammy-based roms for better compatibility.
I've had this issue for a long time. It still occurs with the latest CM11. Here are more details:
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/CYAN-2884
Could you guys point me specific, tested Sammy ROM where that BT issue does not occur?

Hello gentlemen!
First of all, I want to thank neobuddy and everyone that he worked with on the ICS Passion ROM. I find it excellent and have been using it for the past week or so.
I do have a slight issue, though, and as I am not yet familiar with mobile development, I am not sure if the problem stems from my hardware or the software. I bought this Vibrant used, though in excellent condition. As soon as it arrived, I rooted it and installed ICS Passion on it. Therefore, I never actually used the stock software, and that is why I am unsure if this issue stems from the ROM or from the phone itself.
Anyway, my problem is that sometimes during a call, my voice will cut in and out very frequently. This occurs with various people and in various places, so it doesn't have anything to do with signal strength. I can hear the other person just fine. It also seems to only occur when I receive a call. Once I hang up and call the person back, they seem to be able to hear me just fine.
I suspect that this has something to do with one of the following:
1) Sound filtering and normalization. The way that the software handles the data that it receives from the microphone. If it was the microphone itself, I would expect this issue to be much more consistent.
2) Which network the phone uses during phone calls. I've gathered that H is for data transfer and 3G is for phone calls (for the most part). Is it possible that ICS Passion somehow fails to switch to the proper network when a call is received? This seems unlikely as I searched through the ICS Passion thread in the dev forum, but couldn't find an issue similar to mine.
Any insight would be appreciated, although I suppose if no one can help out I can just flash the stock and see if the problem persists. If it does, then I can only assume it's the phone.
Thanks!
try v 10 or v 10.6
Mute and then unmute your call. We've had this problem since cm7

Sweet, good to know, thanks. Do you know of a more permanent solution?

I'm afraid to upgrade to v10 because some people have been experiencing issues with their phones rebooting several minutes into the call. I may try it anyway, though.
Do you know if your problem is with incoming calls only?? That's where the issue seems to be, that the mute/unmute fixes. I put 10 on about a week ago, and am loving it. Put 10.5 on yesterday, and 10.6 today, so they are working on it. I think 10.6 might have fixed it for me, so I'm so happy. Thought Bionix was going to be the end of the line, I tried a couple of gingerbread roms, and had issues!

Been on v10 for a week and have not had the reboot problem. I've heard 10.6 has some problems but yeah the mute/unmute bug isn't that bad you get used to it

That's what it seems like. I have not had a single "you sound like you're underwater" issue for outgoing calls.
Thanks for the responses, everyone. I'm glad to find out that the problem isn't with the phone because I can't afford to replace it for a while. I guess I'll just wait a bit and hope that these slight issues get resolved in a more stable iteration.
hello new here i followed all the directions to a tee got everything install very easy as im not new to flashing roms. i have a rhod400 (sprint tp2) and i have the issue of no sound from the rear speaker when receiving phone calls or anything really. it all comes from the front earpiece speaker. is there a update to flash to fix this? or any easy way to get it working. ive tried numerous times thinking about a bad flash with no luck and yes i have task29'ed it after each to make sure. however the gbx0 3.3.x kernal works perfectly with sound but i like the normal omgb rom better personally for some reason the gbx0 nand rom on my phone seems much slower to respond and much slower going through menus etc for some reason and ive flashed it a few times to make sure
also im running the newest verizon .37 radio as well.
sorry for asking here and not in the thread i needed more posts and really hope someone can help with that. ill be posting more so hopefully will be able to ask there soon but i really wanted to get this fixed asap since i use this phone daily.
Never heard of that before, but I had to move the thread. Sorry.
Good luck & post logs. I doubt it's an issue with the ROM tho, as I run that same ROM myself. Same phone, same radio (assuming you're on the 2.37VZ radio), etc.
You're using the latest OMGB and the latest CWM recovery - not AOSP?
I know that OMGB is using the older kernel, and I want to say that the 3.x kernels got a serious audio code re-write. That could account for the difference. Unfortunately as it seems there is no more development happening in the OMGB rom there will not be support of the newer kernels. Perhaps you should consider using the GBX nand version rather than the OMGB.

I guess I assumed the OP was using the kernel from OMGB.
Is that the case OP? Please stick to the kernel provided with OMGB and report back.

The way I read his post was that he tried GBX w/3.x kernel and OMGB, but only saw the sound issue in OMGB. However he wanted to use OMGB as it seemed to have a better performance. It sounds like his issue might be related to using the older kernel in OMGB. Not necessarily so much that he was swapping bits and parts around.

I've just never heard of any sound issues with OMGB. I did a quick search, can't find anyone with sound issues on OMGB at all, whatsoever...
OP has been PMing me and said the same issue is present on another RHOD400. I have to think he's doing something wrong, but I have no clue what he could do wrong that would cause everything BUT sound to work...

ive heard of this with really old sdcard builds... i seem to recall if you set the volume to one step below max the audio kinda worked the way its supposed to. let us know if your still having issues.
Me Too
I can confirm I'm having this issue as well on OMGB on my RHOD400. Can't hear notification tones or incoming ringer. Volume level "beeps" when you hit the buttons are also very quiet (at all levels) and come from earpiece instead of speaker.
Logcat with unanswered call and poor volume attached. Also, attaching logcat with info from startup.
I too am still using this as my daily phone...I'm missing calls and pissing people off (not that I care) due to this. It used to fix after a reboot, but now it's just stuck like this.
I'm seeing permissions issues trying to access the audio*.csv files from the SD Card, it looks like it finds a default instead. I'm not sure if this is normal.

Makes me think there's some acoustic patch that's missing in the OMGB .27 kernel...
That's a bummer. Strange only some experience the bug...
It appears that the HTC One stock ROMs suffer from the same bluetooth audio distortion that was plaguing the N4 and other AOSP 4.1.x and up ROMs until recently.
Can someone please test some mp3 audio that is:
- Local on their device, bitrate higher than 256kbps
- streaming to a set of good speakers that can reproduce high frequencies well
Play some Led Zeppelin or jazz that has lots of cymbal work, or some vocal music, and listen for distortion on the cymbal crashes or the 's' or 'ch' sounds.
I don't believe it is just me. HTC One Sprint users are reporting the same. I just want to make sure it isn't just them and my unit or something.

I can confirm it does. Had the Nexus 4 and right now I'm using the HTC One (unlocked). Thinking of getting rid of it since my T-Zones does not work with it.

Sigh. 3 steps forward, 4 steps backwards (at least for me). That distortion is terribly grinding on the ears.
CM10.1 will save me! When it is released...
Just FYI, tested with AOSP CM10.1 ROM and the problem is gone. It's definitely a bug that exists in the stock Sense 5 ROM.
I thought I was the only one (no pun) with this issue. It's very annoying. I hope the stock version gets fixed soon.
Anyone with the recent sense updates have any improvement on this front?

Doesn't make a difference. Using the 4.2.2 ROM too. Sorry for the late reply bro.

I have a Sprint HTC One, but the Bluetooth problem is the only reason I keep going back to ViperROM from CM10.1. My Bluetooth (Jawbone ERA) works fine for music and other media sounds, but phone audio is completely messed up. My speech is not getting picked up at all, and the remote party sounds garbled. I also tried disabling the WiFi per your request, but that had zero effect. I went from a 5/27 nightly to 6/19, but the Bluetooth phone audio issue has remained.

I have a T-Mobile HTC One and same deal... had Dirty Unicorns installed and bluetooth music/etc worked great, but phone calls were just a fuzzy, distorted mess. And since I still use my phone for calls (and rely on a headset for work) it was unusable.
Right now I'm rocking a stock rooted ROM since I haven't found a ROM yet that works well enough to be my daily.
I Have SGS2 I9100 and have problems with Bluetooth working when I'm calling. Bluetooth works when I listen music and i can hear touch tones when pressing number before dialing but once i dial the Bluetooth is silent no voice on nothing. I can call and hear people when i call them without Bluetooth.
I have installed following ROMS with same result in the end: Carbon, AOSP Neat, Resurrection remix and Slim kitkat.
I have no idea where the problem lies it seam like every 4.2+ rom has same issue. i have checked my system folder and rw--r--r is there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am also having the same issue. When connecting to my car, bluetooth music works , just the phone doesn't. As a phone call is initiated you can hear sound for a split second then it cuts out. I am currently on the latest Resurrection Remix. I have searched the development forum and see that others have the same problem, but just like this thread, nobody seems to have a solution for it.
Any help would be great
Thanks for your help

Same exact issue. I tried Cyanogenmod, Omnirom, and a couple different versions of each (stable, M build, nightly), and nothing worked. I did a full wipe each time, and that still didn't help. I even tried apps like Mono Bluetooth Router to no avail. I finally went back to stock JB 4.1 since bluetooth is a must for me.
In case it matters, my phone is branded as a I9100M for Bell Canada. It's supposed to be the exact same hardware as the I9100, but could it possibly be slightly different? I see cliff03 is in Canada as well. I can't tell for sure, but it seems like the problem affects some users but not others. Maybe that's why?

Okay, I think I figured it out. While I was testing I flashed a stock I9100 (not I9100M) ROM, and since then my bluetooth is now working on all custom KK roms. This is the I9100 ROM I flashed (I9100XWMS2):

Hey.
I've got an issue that comes & goes with my SGSIII.
I use UltimaROM v16 and Boeffla 5.1 Kernel, and have tried reflashing with no luck.
I experience the distorted voice on calls periodically. Some calls just work perfectly, some just doesn't.
When it does occur, it's almost distorted to the point, where I can't hear what people say. The problem is consistent with or without headset.
Occassionally I start out a conversation with the distortion being really bad (the problem is only on my end). Then, after a few minutes of conversation, it disappears, and the quality is perfectly fine again.
Really strange.
I work as a journalist, which means frequent phone interviewing. Thus, I really depend on being able to hear what people say over the phone when working.
After searching for some answers on the board, I found some users recommending flashing a new modem/RIL.
Problem is: I don't know the first thing about which modem/RIL is right for my phone.
I ran GetRIL and it said "Baseband: I9300XXUGMK6" and "Unknown RIL"
So.. is this still a modem/RIL-thing?
If so, which one should I use, and which modems & RILs fit together?
Please help a new Samsung flash-o-holic out!
Thanks,
Thorm
I'm gonna do a cwm backup & flash a new ROM tonight, just for trial & error.

Try to use your phone some days with GSM network and see if the issue persist. I faced this issue earlier.
Also try to change your Kernel and see if the issue persist.
Lastly if this not solved. Visit sammobile, check the appropriate firmware and flash the original firmware. Avoid using custom ROM as you are heavily depended on the phone.
