[REFERENCE] Themer Icons and Themer Media Icons font keymaps - Themer General Discussion

After some painful times trying to figure out what key means what in the custom, scalable fonts provided by MyColorScreen, I realized I could extract the TTFs from the APK and create my own keymap. You can either download the PDFs to see just the characters or use the two lists below to find the icons you're looking for by description.
Do note that there're a few "missing" and cut-off punctuation characters (they actually display correctly in the widget). I left them as is to show how much the descender is lower than in Arial for reference.
You can also install Kii keyboard, which supports custom fonts, but I find it a bit cumbersome to use (switching fonts).
I hope MyColorScreen isn't upset with me taking the liberty to snoop around the APK.

I created character maps in April. I need to see whether the fonts have changed since then.

Can't wait!

I made some keys
So I made a custom widget with the following text in it:
Code:
QWERTYUIOP
ASDFGHJKL
ZXCVBNM
qwertyuiop
asdfghjkl
zxcvbnm
@$&_():;"
!#=/+?
,- '.
And applied all the fonts to it. I don't have time to make a custom key for all these, but I hope this will do well enough:

It looks good, specially the ICS settings toggle buttons, but I'm using now a SystemUI.apk that has a brightness bar, and its really useful because you can easily adjust it to your needs, so would it be possible for you to add a brightness bar below the toggles? then it would be more awesome
Great work King Serj....... love yur style!!!!:good:
but i dont really like tha toggles icons... please can yhu change it!!! I beg of yhu...
make tha icons like dis
First of all Thanks for your efforts. Its awesome work.
When I'm click the system UI icon on panel it crashes with the pop up

Then the status bar becomes completely blank.

Something conflicting here ??
Tnx dude! Works, and looks fine!

5 Cols even for MDPI ?
Gonna try, but I don't think it'll have nice look
Any idea if it'll work with Stock 0.431? I would've tried but since I don't have any space left on my SD or HD for another backup, I have to ask first.
Thanks!

yes it should work in .431 , but you can wait for other people to test it
but you can copy the following files from /system/app to your sdcard
SystemUI.apk and SystemUIPreferences.apk or quick_panel_settings.apk
for any problems , you can copy back them to /system/app

changing default view
Sir, You are a great developer. I want your help.
I use Quick Panel buttons frequently and every time i open the statusbar i need to switch to the second tab.
After pulling the statusbar, I want the following Quick Panel to be the default view.(Currently default view is the notification)
Is there any way to do so ?

There are 2 possibilities to "install" DarkKat as secondary rom with working root:
System mode:
force the SuperSU installation in system mode
Systemless mode:
(tested on the Nexus 6 only, but should work on other devices, too)
Install DarkKat as primary rom,
and force the SuperSU installation in systemless mode:
Create a backup, and add a secondary rom from backup,
(tested)
Use MultiRoms swap rom feature,

Requirements:
A fast desktop CPU, (or a very fast mobile CPU, better use a PC)
Enough RAM, (8 - 16 GB)
A up to date Linux, (I use Ubuntu 14.04, works with other distros, too, but maybe you have to make some changes to the commands)
A working Build Environment, (here is a guide how to set up a Build Environment on Ubuntu)
(needed steps till "Identify Yourself to the Repo")
Of course it`ll work on slow hardware, too,
but it takes a lot more time.
Create working directory and init repo:
Code:
mkdir ~/Android/Darkkat
(you can use any directory name and path you like, but you have to change the commands to match to your local path)
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat
Code:
repo init -u git://github.com/XXMrHyde/android.git -b darkkat-6.0
Sync the repo:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && repo sync
(now it`s time to drink a big cup of coffee, tea, or ... this can take some time)
Setting up ccache, (optional):
I recommend to use ccache,
if you have enough free space on your SSD/HDD, (about 50 GB).
Using ccache will speed up the building times,
(first build will take longer, because the cchache will be created).
For me, (clean build)
first build/without ccache:
about 45 - 55 minutes
following builds, with ccache:
about 10 - 17 minutes
Code:
gedit .bashrc
and add this line to the bottom:
Code:
export USE_CCACHE=1
the default ccache directory is located at the root of your home directory,
if you like a different location add this line, too;
Code:
export CCACHE_DIR=<path-to-your-cache-directory>
Now run the following command:
Code:
~/Android/Darkkat/prebuilts/misc/linux-x86/ccache/ccache -M 50G
Build the rom:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && . build/envsetup.sh && brunch hammerhead
(time for the next big cup of coffee, ...)
That`s it,
you (hopefully) compiled successfully your own DarkKat rom
Update the sources:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && repo sync
(this time it doesn`t take much time)
Now build again,
(if there are a lot of sourcecode changes, or your last build is some times ago you may need to clean your "out" directory):
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && . build/envsetup.sh && make clobber

Installation:
Take a look at the updated installation instructions at post #2,
(especially "Gapps" and "Root")
Some infos about this Update:
ALPHA/BETA/RELEASE builds:
In general, all builds are comming with the RELEASE tag
(in the rom name), but I wont mention the RELEASE tag,
but if the rom is a ALPHA/BETA build,
mostly on major Android version updates, 5 -> 6,
(possibly 6.0 -> 6.1) and/or the roms additional features are in
ALPHA/BETA stage, (which is the case with first builds on new Android versions),
I`ll mention the ALPHA/BETA stage of the rom.
Lock sreen shortcuts, (default at the bottom):
Related to the installed Gapps package,
the left shortcut, (phone or voice assist)
is possibly always hidden, even if the device supports phone calls.
I have to take a deeper look into it,
to fix the phone shortcut on devices with phone calls support,
if the used Gapps package doesn`t include the needed files for the voice assist.
And also fix the available shortcuts at Settings.

Installation:
Take a look at the updated installation instructions at post #2,
(especially "MultiRom and root")
SuperSU/MultiRom:
This is only relevant on new/fresh installations or if you like to update
SuperSU.
At least on the Nexus 5, new SuperSU versions, (at least 2.66 and 2.67),
will be installed in systemless mode, to force a system mode installation,
fortunately there is a "official" way, (the unofficial "forced" system mode zip
doesn`t work for me, I got a bootloop, (boot animation)),
before installing SuperSU:
if you have access to your device via adb, run:
Code:
adb shell "echo SYSTEMLESS=false>>/data/.supersu"
otherwise create a new file at /data : ".supersu", (there must be a " . " at the beginning
and add the line :
Code:
SYSTEMLESS=false
From my knowlegde, the adb command won`t work for secondary roms,
because the file will be created at /data of the primary rom,
in theory, the "create file" method will work on secondary roms, too,
of course you have to create the file from your secondary rom.
Some infos about this Update:
System R/W:
In the meantime, I found out, that the "System R/W" bug isn`t a bug of the rom,
but a bug of the (outdated ? ) file manager I used,
so using another file manager solved the issue.
Sorry about this.
Status bar network traffic:
As there are 2 new options, "Show" (normal status bar) and "Show when on lock screen",
there is no need to have a "disabled" option on the network activity list,
("Download", "Upload" and "Download & Upload"),
in my opinion it doesn`t worth the work to "update" the "old" disabled option
to the new "Show/hide" options, which means if you enabled the network traffic,
on the new build the network traffic is disabled/hidden,
so you only have to check 1 switch to get your old "state" back,
(all other options/customizations will stick).
Status bar expanded bars:
As the rom now included bars for mobile-, wifi network and battery status,
there is no need for the mobile-, wifi network and battery icons on the status bar header
when expanded. And that`ll be the time the troubles begin, it`s "easy" to fade out/in the header icons
related to the expanded state, but make this related to the visible bars, too, will be very hard.
It isn`t enough to "only" fade the icons out/in, the icons also have to be moved to prevent
blank spaces, (e.g. only mobile network bar is visible, the wifi icon has to be moved next to the battery icon,
and the mobile network icon has to be fade out, and that`s only on of the possibilities).
Remember back to the header of the 5.X version I spent days/weeks, to get the header content movement/animations
to work as expected.
So the easiest way is to remove the icons at all of course.
All Ideas, opinions, ... to this "issue" will be appreciated and welcome.

Added some screenshots to post #1
Unfortunatelly I found a big bug on the status bar.
Related to the enabled settings, (Greeting, Ticker, ...)
sometimes the status bar content is invisible,
the network name is invisible all the time,
and on the status bar when on lock screen, the system icons
are visible from (normal) status bar and lock scren status bar.
I`m sure there are other visibility issues as well related to the status bar.
I`m currently working on a fix,
or better I remove the complete greeting function, which is the reason for the issue.
Maybe I`ll add the greeting back again, but in another way for sure,
(toast, dialog, ...)
The fix will be a smal flashable zip,
so nobody has to redownlaod and install a complete rom.
Big sorry about this.

20160208:

If you are already on build "dk-6.0.1-20160206", there is no need to flash the complete rom,
just flash the patch instead.

SuperSU/MultiRom:
Update MultiRom and MultiRom-TWRP to the current version from 2016.02.07.
Primary rom installations:
SuperSU will be installed in system mode.
Secondary rom installations:
SuperSU will be "installed" in systemless mode,
but SuperSU isn`t installed (or disabled and hidden),
also root isn`t working at all.
There are 2 possibilities to "install" DarkKat as secondary rom with working root:
System mode:
force the SuperSU installation in system mode
Systemless mode:
(tested on the Nexus 6 only, but should work on other devices, too)
Install DarkKat as primary rom,
and force the SuperSU installation in systemless mode:
Create a backup, and add a secondary rom from backup,
(tested)
Use MultiRoms swap rom feature,
(untested)

Some infos about this update:
Status bar expanded header:
I enabled again the hiding of the signal and battery icons if expanded,
this isn`t the final solution, but any other implementation related to the visible bars
needs much overwork, so this will be a "feature" for the future.
Notifications:
I tested the notifications with a lot of different apps,
but possibly there are color related "problems" with some apps I didn`t tested.
So if you get any "problems" with notifications colors, just let me know,
but tell me which app and which color related notification setting you use.
Navigation bar:
The customizations are almost finished, except the button arrangement.
I didn`t finally decided how and which kind of button arrangement I include.
But for sure this will be a much less "feature implementation" as I used for L.

Thanks for the ROM. All I can say is....its a different approach for UI customization..... looks like Android N pre-release ...
Is it not possible to provide delta updates instead of complete ROM update?
Unfortunately I can't provide delta updates for now, because the hosting service I use doesn't support the needed apis. And a hosting service which supports the needed apis is to expensive. But I'll take a look again, the last time I checked the hosting services was some time ago.

Thanks for the rom! I have some feedback that I hope with help:
1. Under quick pull down settings left is still in Dutch, links!
2. When you have 6 items in the quick settings panel they aren't centered so the 6th shows part of the screen. I tried to make a screenshot but couldn't because of no3.
3. When making changes to the power menu it no longer works. Long pressing thing power button instead causes the phone ui to reboot.
4. Is it possible to add an option to the network traffic indicator(s)to only show traffic over a specific level? Similar to other roms?
5. Is it possible to add smart pull-down also?
Edit # The power menu problem when the ui restarts is only repeatable by removing airplane mode.

Thanks, helps a lot,
especially 3., a user on the N6 already complains about it,
but I couldn`t reproduce it.
1. It`s german, but that doesn`t matter, will fix it.
2. It`s only centered if there is space on both sides, I`m not happy with this behavior,
but it wasn`t easy to not break the layout at all, I`ll take look on it.
3. I`ll take a look into it. (Already reproduced it, and got the log, I guess I know what`s causing it).
4. Good Idea.
5. Possible of course, but it`s not on top of my to do list.
Using this at the moment, working good so far. Did not install any custom kernel, slightly adjusted to the "bars," but nevertheless the battery life is good. Will stay on this for a while.

Possibly SuperSU will be installed in systemless mode,
so you have to force system mode if you don`t want to use the systemless mode.
Secondary rom installations:
SuperSU will be "installed" in systemless mode,
but SuperSU isn`t installed (or disabled and hidden),
also root isn`t working at all.
There are 2 possibilities to "install" DarkKat as secondary rom with working root:
System mode:
force the SuperSU installation in system mode
Systemless mode:
(tested on the Nexus 6 only, but should work on other devices, too)
Install DarkKat as primary rom,
and force the SuperSU installation in systemless mode:
Create a backup, and add a secondary rom from backup,
(tested)
Use MultiRoms swap rom feature,
(untested)

Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && repo sync
(now it`s time to drink a big cup of coffee, tea, or ... this can take some time)
Setting up ccache, (optional):
I recommend to use ccache,
if you have enough free space on your SSD/HDD, (about 50 GB).
Using ccache will speed up the building times,
(first build will take longer, because the cchache will be created).
For me, (clean build)
first build/without ccache:
about 45 - 55 minutes
following builds, with ccache:
about 10 - 17 minutes
Code:
gedit .bashrc
and add this line to the bottom:
Code:
export USE_CCACHE=1
the default ccache directory is located at the root of your home directory,
if you like a different location add this line, too;
Code:
export CCACHE_DIR=<path-to-your-cache-directory>
Now run the following command:
Code:
~/Android/Darkkat/prebuilts/misc/linux-x86/ccache/ccache -M 50G
Build the rom:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && . build/envsetup.sh && brunch hammerhead
(time for the next big cup of coffee, ...)
That`s it,
you (hopefully) compiled successfully your own DarkKat rom
Update the sources:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && repo sync
(this time it doesn`t take much time)
Now build again,
(if there are a lot of sourcecode changes, or your last build is some times ago you may need to clean your "out" directory):
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && . build/envsetup.sh && make clobber
OMG******
He's back!!

Just flash the rom as primary, or use the MR "Swap Rom" function.

Hi @XXMrHyde,
Where you tested Multirom: where you using the "fixed" version that i posted a while back in the Multirom thread?
@Droidphilev
yes, I use the fixed MR version you posted,
if I remember right, you also posted a fixed version for the Nexus 5,
so at least using the official MR version on the Nexus 5,
flashing a marshmallow rom as secondary causing a bootloop,
(or a bootloader loop? ), so on the Nexus 6 I flashed "your" fixed version first,
without testing the official version.
I have no Idea if the problems on the Nexus 6, if the (this) rom flashed as secondary,
can be solved via MR, or if it has to be fixed on rom side.
BTW, on the Nexus 5 and 7 (2013), this rom is working fine as secondary,
so big thanks for your fixed versions for shamu and hammerhead.

Nexus 5 was not mine
Well... you should not have any problems flashing M to secondary EXCEPT when you are trying to flash systemless root to it (SuperSU > 2.56).
Will try it on mine soon with old fashion root and see if it boots
Thought you also were the one who posted the fixed hammerhead version,
my mistake.
Unfortunately this rom doesn`t work as secondary rom on the Nexus 6,
(flashing isn`t a problem, but lags, FCs and a missing internal sdcard
are the problems.
As it seems the lags and FCs are related to the missing internal sdcard,
maybe I missed some SELinux stuff.

Well.... some enforcing kernels break writing to sd card. You should try to flash your rom to secondary and use the very last Elite kernel for example.
Thanks for your help.
Yes, I know how to fix it "the dirty way", I already updated the installation instructions. But I prefer to include a SELinux enforcing kernel, set the kernel to permissive will "disable" SELinux, which isn't a good Idea in my opinion.
A better way is to add the missing SELinux rules to be able to access the internal sdcard on secondary roms, too.

I see. Well... i flashed it to secondary with Elite and 'old' SuperSU. works fine. Nice rom btw!
Thanks for your confirmation.
I guess for now I`ll leave the kernel as it is,
so the users can decide if they want to use a permissive kernel
to be able to use the rom as secondary.

Yes
Would you have to go through all the steps from OOS12 if you are already on unofficial EvolutionX?
I guess you used OOS12 source so things changed?
Hey, thank you for the rom! One quick questions,
I'm stuck in GM1900_11_H28 for now. Can i install this rom, without waiting for the update (h30/31) to be available ?
Thx

Yes , you'll need to come from the firmware mentioned in the OP. Upcoming builds will have fw included. Until then you can follow the guide as is, or you can flash lineage, reboot to bootloader and follow my guide starting with step 2.

Hi @Fegelein,
I hope all is well. I deleted your first post above that one for a couple of reasons:
Making two or more posts in a row in a thread is discouraged. You can always click the Edit button on your existing post and change it as much as you need to.
Accidents happen, and when you do make a second post by mistake, please use the Report button on your own post and ask us to delete it for you.
Last, but not least: your initial post gave off the impression of being very demanding of the developer, who generally does this work for free and in their spare time. Your second post is much better, although still on the very edge of demanding, but doesn't quite cross the line.
If you have any questions or need to discuss any of this, please send me a PM, and don't reply here so that we keep the thread on-topic.
Thank you,
@roirraW "edor" ehT
What is the kernel version, may I ask?

Nope. I will not be migrating to it either. Erofs has been known to cause app launch regression. I ship with erofs on 8 series although I'll probably be migrating back to ext4 soon as well.

No and I will not be adding it, nor will I be adding Dolby. I do the same for 6, 8 and 9 series.

How is camera performance compared to oos/ can it be added later on?

As for performance, well, you can use a gcam mod with xmls. I suggest using LMC 8.4
Edit: There is an issue with Always-on-display. When you have pocket mode enabled and put your phone in your pocket with AOD active, it will show the pocket mode info screen all the time. I guess this will cause burn in and battery drain.
Is it Google play certified? The banking apps are allowing access with this room?
