Good Morning everybody,
as the title I would like to find the way to test my new application.
It will be a Beta Crowd test. In other words I want test my final application (not a part of code) in terms of functionalities, usability and look. I prefer to test with real users with different devices in different countries.
Could you please help me to find a way to do it, which is the best company that do this kind of work?
Thank you very much
Cheers
Luca

It's possible somebody could come in and mention the pros and cons of learning some specific way. But everybody learns in different ways. Just head to Amazon and pick a book that looks interesting to you. Don't worry about how other people learned it. Just jump in and get your feet dirty.
You may find some useful information in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...andriva Linux 2010, OpenSUSE, and others! (?)

Hi devs,
I wounder if you can make an application that can show the checkpoints that police make.
I know that similar apps exist but what I need is an application that can be used by a lot of people but only authorized admins can state if a checkpoint exist or no.
I live in Bahrain and every night police make many checkpoints around the country to arrest activists.
and im sorry if this thread is in the wrong section.
maybe not everyone knows what happening in bahrain now, but we really need an app like this....
any volunteers ??? please contact me or M_satrawi in private

I'm looking to create an app for my deli/restaurant and I'm a chef that knows my way around android but nothing on this level. I want to hire an app developer to create a basic app with my menu, specials, Facebook etc. WWW.Faldonis.com is my website (don't laugh at the website... I told ya I'm a chef) to give ya an idea of the menu and feel of my place. I will go in to more details once an app devolper PMS me.
Thanks,
Chef

Its better to have an amateur website than no website at all. IMO, you'd probably be better off developing a decent mobile version of your website. Everything you want can be done through a smartphone browser pretty easily. Plus the same website will work on Android, iOS, Blackberry, etc instead of an app which would work only with one OS.
I can do it

Yeah this is what a dev just pmd me. Makes more sense to have a mobile friendly app. I think it would be neat to have an actual "Faldonis" app that opened the mobile version also. And yes... even though my website isn't easy on the eyes... it does have almost 40,000 visits to the home page
which like you say is better then nothing.

In over 4,000 posts that's my first corny post so cut me some slack.

I am writing this as an open invitation for anyone who would like to join the Darkforest Development Team.
Who are we?
The Darkforest Group started in 1998 and in recent years has been home to some of the best flash developers who have produced some of the most well-known flash mobile themes for a range of phones (specifically Samsungs) like the Samsung Monte and Samsung Star/Tocco Lite.
Now we aim to replicate this success in producing a series of stable and reliable ROMs and modifications for as many devices as we can across a wide range of manufacturers.
ROMs
The ROMs can either be based on stock or built from source, its whichever you feel more comfortable with and all ROMs will eventually be given a custom theme (we have someone working on the specific design right now but other themers are still welcome).
To make the ROMs different to other ROMs, they will contain a series of user customizable tweaks and additional features.
Modifications
We are looking to include a range of modifications in the ROMs like hide and reorder quick settings, Advanced Power Menu's where the user can choose what items are on that menu and general UI tweaks specific to the device the ROM is being made for.
Therefore anyone interested should be aware that smali and/or java skills are preffered but not required as while they sound hard to do they are in reality fairly easy if familiar with smali.
Interested?
There are several ways to contact us regarding interest with this, you could leave a post in this thread, contact me via PM or register at the Darkforest forum and send a PM to Darkforest himself
Questions?
Please feel free to ask any questions you may have

I can teach, I'm trying to set up sort of a central place for us all to chat - any idea's? obvious ones are fb group or google+ hangout and maybe IRC though too much stuff gets lost in IRC whereas you can save it in a doc on fb or g+

Ok, for people intersted in joining the Darkforest Development Team I have created a board on our forums to discuss and develop there - of course we are not restricting posting of ROMs to just the Darkforest forums - all ROMs made are welcome to be posted in other forums as well.
The board is located here

Definitely willing to learn if there's a teaching method. I love android and have been wanting to learn to create ROMs for a while

I'd like to learn as well. I have a number of devices to work with, mostly Samsung. I have a flexible schedule with some free time on my hands, as well.
I have a ridiculous eye for detail and an obsession with order. I think I'd be a natural at coding.

I've never programmed an Android app before, but a few years back I did do a bit of Java programming on my PC. I'm looking for recommendations on a book that gives step-by-step instructions on how to program apps using the Eclipse IDE. I have tried the training found here:
http://developer.android.com/training/index.html
but I need a lot more details on the fundamentals with lots of examples.

For a start you shall use mit app inventor by google

Need help with the android API
I love android and more importantly, would love to develop for android . But the problem is I need some help on how to develop apps for android. Developer.Android is great, but there's no one for doubts and there are things that I cannot understand directly by looking at the code and other given info. I love XDA community because of their love for development, and I trust people at XDA for providing the right help.
I could really use some help on the issue, where do I look for getting familiar with API and every thing else to finally develop an app?
I am not asking for some complete guide books or something else like a complete tutorial (maybe yes but i think the they are hard to find and are not that substantial), just a happening place where there is some substantial material that offers a little more help on what developer.android has for develop.
Just let me know what's the best way for me to continue, even if it is sticking with developer.android and trying to understand it !!

Thanks. I will try out the MIT App Inventor. Just curious, how does it compare with the Eclipse IDE for developing Android apps?
Pete
MIT App Inventor it is just for a start! You can t do very complicated things but it is the best for learning the basics...it has virtual emulators, some useful tutorials, you shall take a look

Thanks. I tried the first tutorial. It was fun, but seems like a game! I think I really need to get back to the Eclipse IDE and learn how to use it. Anyone have other suggestions to help me understand the fundamentals of Eclipse.
Pete
I started with this. http://thenewboston.org/list.php?cat=6
you can use eclipse with android sdk of course. :fingers-crossed:
if you want to make games with 3d or something like that you can use unreal or unity.

Thanks for the tutorials! I'm in the same boat. I'm wanting to learn to develop, and the android and java sites leave some things a little unclear (to me anyways).
I built an app in one day, only resources were the Android developer website and StackOverflow.
I am 15 years old...
It's easy. If you want to do something, just search it on google. I had 0 java experience before!
EDIT: I recommend http://developer.android.com/training/basics/firstapp/index.html

Well you won't know it.
It is for Dutch students in my state/province/region. It is used for checking school schedules, check if student can stay at home (because a teacher is sick or w/e) and save schedules for offline usage.
ATM, my app is limited to support only 5 schools, wich are 10k students. It has that limit because the headmaster forbade me for the time being...
Anyway, it has a pretty neat layout and dus what it's supposed to do
