Battery Status Unknown (Motorola Droid A855) - Please Help. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have two batteries.
The old one - which Doesn't work unless it's on the charger, and displays an "Unknown" Battery Status within the Stock Rom of my Motorola Droid A855.
A New one - which still displays an "Unknown" Battery Status.
I had the 4.1 Jelly Bean rom on my droid until this happened. Then switched back to the stock rom.
Before any battery issue happened - Nothing wrong was going on until the old battery completely died. Ever since then, the 4.1 rom would send crazy battery statuses (1% one moment, 54% the next - after I rebooted it). Then, the battery stopped working all together - Unless I kept it on the charger.
With the new battery, it says 1% (in the 4.1 rom). It seems to last way longer than 1% (without the charger of course). If I reboot the phone While the charger is in, it'll say 56%. Reboot it without the charger again, back to 1%.
If I take the battery out of the phone with just the charger (all chargers except one), the phone will stay on and display a fake battery charge number. Keep in mind, this is all within the 4.1 rom.
When I return to the Original rom, the battery status is "Unknown" - However, the Battery Level of the phone states that it's at 60%. No matter how long it stays on the charger, the 60% doesn't seem to change.
I'm currently using a charger that was Not originally for the Motorola Droid. However, before any battery issues occured, the battery would successfully charge on this charger.
Is there Anyway to fix this Unknown battery status? May someone Please help me..?

[Q] Strange charging behavior on LG Optimus V

New to VM & Android. Picked up two Optimus V phones a couple of weeks ago. While on the wall charger, both exhibit different behaviors once they've reached full charge.
On one Optimus, once the phone is 100% charged, it says "Full Charge" (or "Fully") on the lock screen. As it stays on the wall charger, the status remains full charge - there is no discharge.
However, on the other Optimus, once it reaches 100% charge, there is no mention of any charging status on the lock screen. And when I check the status in the settings, the phone shows that it is discharging, even though it remains on the wall charger.
The discharging status bears itself out as it remains on the charger, I'll eventually see the percentage of battery life drop.
Did I inadvertently switch a setting? The phone discharging itself once it reaches full charge even when on the wall charger is a problem. This is especially evident when I leave the phone on the charger overnight. In the morning, instead of starting the day fully charged, I'll see it at about 80% charged.
Thanks for any help.
There are not any settings in the Android operating system that affect charging directly. This is more a function of the kernel/hardware specific. This is why some phones can charge while off and others must be turned on. Try trading chargers/batteries between the two phones and see if the problem follows the hardware. Be sure and do this one part at a time, i.e. first trade batteries. Then if that isn't it trade chargers. You could have a bad battery and/ or charger. Also, are you rooted? Running custom Rom? These factors can also affect your situation.
Thanks for your advice. I followed what you instructed. First, switched the chargers to no avail. I changed the batteries and still no change.
It's odd to see two different behaviors exhibited by the same model phone. Both phone are unrooted running stock rom. As I indicated, one phone (which I consider the normal one) does not discharge as long as it's plugged in. The second phone starts discharging once full, even though it's plugged in.
The problem is when I leave it plugged in overnight - if I don't catch it at the moment it reaches complete charge, it'll discharge. Since I'm asleep when the phone reaches a full charge sometime in the night, by the time I wake up, I'll leave the home with a phone that is 60-80% charged.
I'll chalk this up to something faulty with the board and just turn it back in to Target.

[Q] Photon Battery charging calibration

Are you really getting a full charge?
I got tired of the 10% increments on the Photon and installed the Battery circle app. It reads out in 1% increments.
I noticed that when the Photon tells you it is charged at 100% and disconnect the charger, Battery circle shows 95%.
I decided to leave it on charge and sure enough it will go to 100% after a while.
Strangely, for each 1% of additional charge, the Photon again chimes in that it is fully charged.
Once it gets to 100% it will revert to 99% as soon as you remove the charger.
With the critical battery issues for most Droid based devices, an extra 4%-5% is enough to note this as an important issue.
For now, I will ignore the Full prompt on the Photon and hopefully Moto will get this corrected in a future update.
Anyone else see this behavior?
Mine just started that. Every charge before today I have reached a 100% and it has started counting down from there. Now at full charge it shows 95%, the battery calibration program I have installed shows that I have 100% charge.

[Q] My GS2 won't turn on

It was working fine before I went to bed last night, then I let it charge for the night since that battery was at about 4%, But this morning it won't turn on at all. The battery feels warm as if its been charging but nothing seems to be making it turn on. Any ideas?

If it was my phone here is what I would do.
First I would see if the phone charges the battery by putting the battery into
the phone and plug the usb cable from phone into the wall charger or into
the computer.
If the display on phone shows a picture of a battery charging let it charge
for an hour more or less and try turning on the phone.
If the phone is not charging the battery I would purchase a cheapy battery
charger and battery combo on eBay.
You can find this combo on eBay for less than $8 bucks shipped for both the battery and charger:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1800m-BATTE...045605?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item43aa9a4465
(even if you decide to return and exchange the phone its still a good thing to have a spare battery and charger)
Check it out.
Good Luck!

are you on cm7? not sure about the s2 (never had the issue), but i know that on the infuse, there was a problem (or maybe it was intentional) with low power charging mode (phone wouldn't charge when off).
i think this can be solved by trying to charge the phone via your computer usb, as opposed to your OEM wall charger.
Thanks for the suggestion. It definitely isn't showing the picture of the battery when its plugged in to the wall or the computer. I'm debating the battery charger combo you linked.
I actually am. But I have it plugged to my computer and nothings changed.
Time for some trouble shooting.
Start eliminating possibilities. You need to determine where the problem is.
From what you say, it seems possible that the battery is completely discharged but not recharging. That could be a bad battery or it could be the phone.
If you know someone else with an SGS II, try inserting their battery temporarily to see if your phone will boot. If you don't know someone else, maybe you can borrow a charged battery from the store where you bought it.
Continue on until you pinpoint the problem.
Do NOT buy a "cheapie" battery for your SGS2. Unless you want to eisk causing damage. The stock battery for the SGS2 has NFC technology built into it. Using anything other than OEM could cause damage/performance issues to your phone, and void the warranty.

Have goh tried a battery pull? Unplug the phone, pull the battery and let sit for a few minutes to allow tbe IC's to discharge. Put battery back in and try powering up the device. Good luck.

Similar issue and got phone fixed finally
Have had similar issue as yours. Cable charger was plugged into the phone to be charged at night and was surprised to find that the phone became hot and battery was not charged at the next morning, in fact the battery level got lower than it was before charging.
Notes:
- ROM in use: AOCP version 7.2 (Android 4.4.2)
- Kernel in use: Version 3.0.101 [email protected] #3
Here are some tests done and the observations after getting a charger with a slot to place the removed battery for charging:
1. Charging via USB cable connected to PC:
- With the phone turned on, battery charging icon is only displayed after some wiggling at the charging port. The phone got charged further to 100% when the initial remaining battery level is 90%. However, when the initial battery level was less than 50%, the battery level continued dropping ALTHOUGH the battery charging icon was displayed.
- With the phone turned off, battery charging icon is only displayed after some wiggling at the charging port. When the initial battery level was less than 50%, the battery charging icon displayed only a battery level of 1% and the battery level did not increase at all after 15 minutes of charging.
Initially suspected that it was a dead battery issue and bought an i9100 battery, I thought it was a compatible battery at first. With the i9100 battery, I repeated the above tests.
- With the phone turned off, battery charging icon is NOT displayed but the phone screen flashed continuously, and at times the phone is turned on automatically as the USB charging port is inserted. When the phone is turned on, the charging proceeded as the above sentence.
Upon searching the forum, I found that i777 has a different battery with NFC chip and i9100 battery has reported to cause issues during charging on i777 devices. There was also a Chinese forum which mentioned that the battery compatibility issues should have been overcome in ROM with Android version 4.0 and above.
I then bought a new i777 compatible battery and tested charging via USB cable. The observations are same as the first battery as at 1.
With the battery issues possibility eliminated, I approached a phone technician to examine the phone by telling him that the phone couldn't be charged and the battery level continued dropping even with the battery charging icon displayed. The phone technician then thought that the USB charging port to be the cause of the charging issue and replaced it. The replaced part is the small metal housing where the USB cable is inserted, and is replaced by heating the old metal housing and replacing it with new part by soldering.
The phone could be charged with USB cable as usual after the part replacement and all the batteries are found to be still working fine. Ended up with 2 i777 batteries and a i9100 battery, may be I could continue using this phone for at least another 5 years down the road.

Weird battery problem

Okay, I have a weird battery problem and I don't know how to fix it. I'll give a description and then details of what I'm running.
So, last night I drained my phone and took out the battery to put things on the sd card and then I plugged it in and went to bed. I was late in waking up because, for some reason, my phone was dead. Very odd. I tried turning it on, and it turned on, showed that it was charging, and then proceeded to die. I tried again and again and I noticed weird things. I have the battery bar on top and the charging animation (shows bar sliding from right to left when charging) and the animation goes off about 5 times and then stops. The battery percentage is green, and setcpu changes to charging state, but the phone doesn't charge. I went into Settings > Battery and it said it wasn't charging. I don't understand what's going on and how to fix this. By some miracle, I factory reset and wiped and reinstalled the kernel and the rom and it charged as I left it at home for like 5 hours, but now i don't know how to fix it because while the charging state changes, the battery doesn't charge. Also, something else that is really weird is that with the stock battery, I installed battery calibration to see if I had just discharged the battery fully and it just needed more mAh to start charging, but my 2500 mAh stock batter is showing up as 3710 mAh (now. Was higher earlier).
P.S I restored the rom after it was charged and it doesn't charge anymore (still changes state, but no actual charging. I have two batteries, so I tried with the other and neither of them charge. I feel like it's a kernel issue and I could easily just flash another rom, but I would like to get to the bottom of this issue first)
ROM: King Kang July 16
Kernel: h0tkernel-r5
2500 mAh stock battery
Only using SetCPU to overclock and underclock
Flashed the rom a few days ago and it worked just fine.
The battery had been out of the phone for a good few hours in a cool room before I put it back on charging
(If you need more info, let me know)
Are you plugged into the wall or a computer USB port?
And just to clarify, you are using the stock battery, right? It's a little confusing because it sounds like maybe you weren't, but then in the list of items at the bottom you say you are using the stock battery.
I am plugged into the wall and using the stock battery. I just used the other battery to make sure it wasn't the battery's fault. Also, tell me if this screenshot makes any sense. This is from last night and I switched over to the jelly bean ROM too.

That looks like your screen is constantly on. That would drain the battery quickly. You may also have one or more rogue apps that are draining your battery.
You should definitely install Better Battery Stats to get a better picture of what's going on. The developer has a thread on xda where you can get help if you post the log from BBS.

The app is attach to the second post or it is available in the play store.

It's just the clock app in night mode. I've done that with every other rom I've ever had and now I'm unable to for some reason. I've always had night mode clock on my dock every night. I don't understand why this issue started now. I'll download BBS and see what it reports in a day or two. For now, this problem is still here even though I switched to the Jelly Bean rom.

[q] major battery issue

Hey Guys and Gals
This morning my phone was completely drained so i plugged it into the wall plug to charge up. However it did not turn on and begin charging until i did a battery pull.
When it began charging, there was the little yellow triangle (normally there when my device has been drained). A couple of minutes after, the battery began charging BUT it was nearly full
So i switched on the device, went to Applications>Settings>About Phone>Status
There the battery read 96% and charging from AC. When i unplugged it, the numbers began literally jumping backwards and the phone died within two minutes.
I tried charging again and had to do a battery pull again. For good measure, i did a factory reset but the issue was there still, only, when it is plugged in, the battery slowly DECREASES :S maybe like 1% every 2 minutes.
Can someone please help me and let me know if it is a battery issue or a phone hardware issue itself?
Im running Gingerbread btw (downgraded from ICS about 3 weeks now because it sucked....and i missed GB lol)

Easiest way to check is to use another battery in your phone and/or to test your battery in another phone.
So you only need to find someone with a compatible phone/battery.
Or go to a store and ask for help.
Good luck !
Or use a volt meter to test if your battery is dead ie <3.7, the s 2 tends to exaggerate the value more often than shrink the percentage of battery, but your case is a bit extreme, it might have to do from going from ics to gb, don't take my word but apparently its bad to downgrade from ics to gb
