My wife's KFHDX 8.9 just updated in the past few days, and the new update seems to be blocking all Google Play software from running. For example, we have Youtube installed via 1mobile, but when you run it, you get a popup saying that it's "not supported" and then it closes out. WTF...
I don't need/want root... I just want to run normal apps. I'm ok with not being able to login to Google apps, too... but disabling Youtube like this? Really? What's the purpose, other than annoying customers?
We tried running Youtube via Firefox as well, and it does the same thing. Are we doing something wrong, or is this just what we're reduced to now? I HAVE to use Silk and nothing even remotely related to Google?

FYI, I'm using the Dolphin browser (v10.3.0) along with Dolphin Jetpack (v6.1.0) and Adobe Flash player (v11.1.115.81) on a stock KFHDX7, running v13.3.2.2, and YouTube videos are working OK for me. You might try again as YouTube might have had problem with the video you were trying to access earlier? There would be quite an uproar and revolt if YouTube is blocked completely.
[Edit] Forgot I had Firefox (v28.0.1) installed too, just tried it, and YouTube videos work on that too. [/Edit]

Can you tell me what version you have of Youtube and FireOS? Maybe I have some weird mismatch?
Installed YouTube app (v5.3.32) from 1Mobile, and that works for me as well on my stock KFHDX (v13.3.2.2), FYI.
[Edit] Sideloaded YouTube app (v5.5.27) from PlayStore, and when opened, I got the following error pop-up:

Installed TubeMate (v2.2.2.573) from the Amazon AppStore, and YouTube videos works with this app too. FYI. [/Edit]
Try version 4.1.23. It's an old version but runs and allows sign in.

Excellent - thanks for the answers. I'll give them a try.
tl3, that's the exact message I get... so hopefully the other versions will get us back on track. I'll try to detail what I did, and which versions I have, and report back...
Edit: Yup, that did it. I was running Youtube 5.5.27 and it was causing this problem on 14.3.2.2. Downgraded back to 5.3.32 and all is back to normal again. Still, this means at some point in the future, you'll have to use a new YT app, and it will be blocked by FireOS? Pathetic. If this wasn't my wife's tablet, I'd be returning it to Amazon while giving them a hell of a stink...
Thanks for your help, everyone... don't update those YT apps!

In this instance, Amazon cannot take the full blame here... it isn't just a matter of them blocking the YouTube app. Amazon has a role in this skirmish, but the main culprit here is Google this time. They've strategically redesigned their apps, including YouTube, to be integrated into their Google services framework rather than remaining as a standalone app--like it was with previous versions. This is Google's conscious business decision and effort to counter closed systems like Amazon's Fire OS--each just trying to defend and protect their own turf/ecosystem. Google could have updated the app such that it could be more universally usable and user-friendly--allowing users a choice to participate in their service framework or remain as a standalone app... Google provides, supports and maintains a YouTube app for the iOS that doesn't support the Google services framework--so why not the Fire OS too? These tit-for-tat maneuvers will only escalate and make each ecosystem even more proprietary and closed which is totally contrary to the openness of Android. Amazon started all this with their Fire OS...

tl3: I understand what you're saying, but I don't necessarily agree. The issue is that Amazon is actively blocking GPS (Google Play Services)... they don't have to do that, but they choose to. Think of it this way, you can install Firefox or Chrome on Windows, and MS doesn't block it... they don't have to support it, but that's totally fine. In the same vein, Amazon could just "not support" these apps, but actively blocking them is just being an ass. That's what I take issue with here... and that's why I blame Amazon for this situation...
Again, thanks for the well-reasoned explanation. It does make sense, to a point... but hopefully you can see where I'm coming from better. I'm not asking for something crazy. I'm just asking for software that CAN run on the platform to be allowed to run.

Not really leaked as Google officially released it...
But yea, in my 10 minutes of using it, I don't really like it. That of course usually comes with all changes....
it looks kind of small in landscape
Most importantly, it works with pixel density set to 160!
My apps show up AND the Reader app looks normal!
Friggin' awesome! I can use Reader again!
Does anybody know why it doesn't have the Movies tab (just Apps, Games, and Books)? Movies show up on my Nexus1 running the same apk and ROM (CM7).
Is anybody else getting several apps listed as needing an update under My Apps. I have 16 apps that are all properly installed and up to date listed there. If I try to "update" one of them, the attempt fails with an error stating that it could not install to the SD card or USB.
In the immortal words of Emily Litella; "Never mind."
Movies won't run on rooted devices (error 49), so it's just as well the tab doesn't show up. I got all the way through a rental purchase, installation of the new video player, and app launch before it delivered that little bombshell.
The update error I was getting was because I had moved the app to my SD card. I moved it back to Internal and it updated fine.
Just don't ask me why I had so many apps that it thought needed updating. I couldn't see any common denominators.

Yes. That's what I hear.
So was the 161 pixel density something that was donw specifically to get the old market to work? Do I risk breaking other apps if I set my pixel density to 160?

Using 'adb install -r' worked, however. I'm had problems connecting but I had that with the original market as well. I waited several minutes and tried again. That time I could connect to the market.

I get an update button on some of the apps in my update list and some of them just have open and uninstall. For those you can update them by clicking the x1 (or x2, etc.) button at the top right corner of the section.
It queues up whatever is ready to be updated. I haven't figured out away to update just one if more than one is eligible for update though.

So are you saying that the new Market will always update all your Apps even if you don't want that particular App to update?
I have a couple of free ones that I've backed up and the new versions have Ads, so I want to keep the old ones around. If the new Market forces updates, then I'm for sure passing on this.
It seems to be working great on my NC but I get a lot of FC's on my HD2 running Typhoon CM7

Only if it in group of malformed market apps that say they need updating but don't give you an individual update button in the app entry itself.
I have no idea what's causing this "bug" or how prevalent it is. I've had about 16 (out of 90 or so) apps do this. I tried fixing the apps market links in Titanium Backup first and it made no difference. I also tried wiping the data (but not framework data) and fixing permissions. All nada.
It seems to be stable now. It could have been server side issues at Google (the apk isn't out OTA yet). It could just be early adopters tax.
Error
I downloaded and installed the new Market from the link in the OP, but I get the following error when I try to access the new Market:
"Authentication required. Please log into your Google account."
As soon as I hit OK, the app closes. It doesn't prompt me for my Google credentials, and all my other Google-based apps are running fine, so I'm not sure how to authenticate at this point.
Has anyone else seen this? I tried clearing the data for Market (this would always force me to re-authenticate in previous versions), but I still get the same problem.
Mike
***UPDATE***
After spending 15 minutes Googling for solutions, I tried it one more time and it suddenly worked. Weird.
I am getting a 'Parse Error' when attempting to install the APK. I am sure it's not the file but rather my Nook. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?
Thanks.
After many many months of use, I suddenly have no devices on the market.android.com website. I can still download apps on my tablet (using VEGAn-TAB v 7.1.0). This is weird and makes me nervous that Google will be cracking down on this tablet. I had had the device show up (I forget what it was called). This was handy when I read about an app say at work and then I could "download" it from the website and it would be waiting for me at home to finish the install.
Anyone else seeing this behavior?
Makes me nervous that all of my paid apps are going to languish if there are any updates to the apps. I kind of feel like Google is ripping me off if they sell me apps and then later block my device. Again, for now, I can use the tablet to go to the market so this is more of an inconvienence than anything else at the moment.
Retry
Yes, if I use the market app I get Retry. If I use the market website I get "no device."
Any ideas?
I got last weekend when looking at market (constant retry). Internet was definitely working. Clearing the market cache didn't help. Something I also noticed was the amazon app store wasn't working either. It kept asking me to login but it already had that info. Rebooting fixed it for me but I honestly don't know why the market retry problem occurred. While looking at this problem, I checked market with my htc sensation and it was happy. I just tried it today and market is working.
A little more data might help figure this problem out. I am using cyanogenmod 7.1.0.1-smb_a1002. Kernel is 2.6.32-46-cyanogenmod.

I have the same issue, first noticed in early Oct. I can access and download apps fine from the gTablet using the Market app, but the gTablet is no longer appearing on "My Market Account" on the Market.Android.com web site. I'm running FlashBack 9.0.
I have seen similar posts about this issue on other forums, and also have a concern that Google is removing devices with non-approved ROMs. One person suggested submitting a Android Support ticket about the account issue and convince them that you don't have a gTablet, and ask them to forward to the Account Management Team. I have not tried that yet.
Well sorry to hear that I am not the only person having this issue. I really think Google has opened themselves up to a lawsuit here. I would be fine if they hadn't taken my money and blocked me from the get-go but to have accepted my device, grabbed my cash (15 minute return policy! I think Connecticut state statutes would prevail and say there is at least a 3 day cooling off period but whatever), and now after the fact block my device (assuming it will be only a matter of time before they block the device market). I am sure more than a few States Attorney Generals would love to take up this case.
Oh well. I am not going to lose too much sleep over it. I have a Logitech Revue so I suppose in a few weeks I can sideload whatever I need into the device. Right now with Squeeze Commander it is making a great controller for my Squeeze Receiver.

I had the same issue. I eventually cleared the google services framework and rebooted and market came back albeit without the web based recognition of my device. Amazon continues to work for me. I did email google for support. In the end, he wrote that my device wasn't supported since ViewSonic hadn't purchased a license (more or less).
I thought it was just me! Glad (and sorry to hear) that I'm not alone.
I had botched something up last night and had started to get an android.process.acore error, so I decided to just reset to a clean install of my last vegantab version. (5.1.1)
I haven't been able to get the market to work right at all. I can't get it to locate simple things like Angry Birds Dolphin Browser. It will say it's found 5,000 results for a search, but only show 20 or 30 apps.
Are there any work arounds?
I think I still have the APK's for most of my apps, but it would be nice to have things working again.
___________________________________
UPDATE:
I upgraded to vegantab 7.1 and I seem to have the market generally back. I can find most of what I search for, but am still limited to the number of apps that I can browse. For instance, a search for "Media Player" shows 4807 results, but it only shows 40 that I can actually browse through. When I search "Handwriting Recognition" it lists 56 results but only shows 19 to choose from. The same search on my laptop lists 62 results spread out over 3 pages. My cell phone (droid X) gets the almost the same results as my tablet. 51 results of which I can see 19 to choose from.
I have the definitive answer for this
And it's right here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1327249
I contacted Google today about exactly this issue: to make a long story short the news is bad. But it could be worse...

Must have a valid credit card and a registered wallet account for this to work
And must be able to follow directions
Thank - jollyb for Finding/Translating THIS fix he found on a croatian forum.
1. Open Google play (Market) in Chrome browser (on your desktop/laptop) and find the wanted app (best would be that you backup the app via Ttitanium backup if you can, and uninstall it)
2. 'Right-Click' on "PURCHASED and select Inspect element
3. Above the selected row you'll see [data-ispurchased="true"]

4. Change "true" to "false" and press ENTER
(Having problems with downloading another app? Change the inspect element back to "true", app should start downloading now)
5. Click PURCHASED that will open the popup to buy via Google Wallet so you can purchase the app.
Tested on Google Chrome browser, please post if you've had success with/on different browsers.

People who have downloaded apps from Amazon app store for the free app of the day, and now since the Android Market has been updated to the Play Store, alot of those amazon apps are showing as purchased in Play Store but aren't downloadable or able to be purchased at all since it's linked to your Google account as I guess a pirated app or something.
MoPhoACTV Initiative
Awesome. I've been wondering how to do this. I traded phones with someone a while back and made a backup of all apps before I wiped the phone and I have been unable to purchase ADW Launcher EX because I restored the backup and then the market said it was purchased already but wouldn't let me download it.
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk
I also found that if you uninstall the market updates (temporarily) and go back to the older style market, you can properly purchase them, even if it said "purchased" when using the newer market versions.
The amazon free app a day is a great example of what causes this problem.
Man this is so awsome, it works like a charm and solved many headaches of not being able to update stuff..

I have that as well but it is for apps that were purchased/downloaded from the Amazon App Store which is why they won't update.
Using Firefox on-device, I entered this into the address bar while viewing the product page. 'Purchased' didn't change to the price, but clicking 'Purchased' did allow me to complete the purchase as per usual just the same though.

And if you guys wanna just get rid of the "Purchased" status on the Play Store you can perform the topic's workaround (buying the app) from your pc and then while it's downloading on your phone you can cancel the process and press the "Refund" button.
You can even keep the sideloaded app installed on your phone!
This way you'll have the app set to the "right status"
Cheers!

I am having a hard time finding apps in the Play Store (Example: Pinterest) and was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same? I've tried all of googles troubleshooting steps including deleting cache and uninstalling updates. Signing out and back into google, along with a reset under settings. LG told me that I would have to send my phone in to check for hardware problems.
I can find the apps when I google search them. When I click the information tile to install, a blank window appears saying "Retry". When it goes to open the app in the play store from google search, it says "This device is not compatible with this version". But if I go to search and download the APK from a mirror site with the same version number it installs fine. So I can still access the apps, it's just very tedious.

Nope, the most I've messed with as far as settings go is animation scaling. I went to look for Pinterest again in the app store and it's there with an update.... But I still can't download Groupon, Tinder and a few others yet. Could it be the apps don't support the V30 screen ratio yet or? I'm a noob when it comes to all of this, it's been like this though since I first got it in October. Kind of annoying that it works when I finally ask someone. Thanks for the quick reply!

I'm a noob when it comes to all of this, it's been like this though since I first got it in October. Kind of annoying that it works when I finally ask someone. Thanks for the quick reply!

Groupon, Tinder come up for me fine in Google Play. I don't know what to tell you. Something is wonky with your Google Play app?

Yeah I guess I will just have to keep checking back for either updates to the app or to see if more apps eventually pop up. I'm really enjoying the phone otherwise and don't wanna wait the two weeks for them to look it over and tell me that I just have to wait for an update. I've updated to the most recent Google play store app via mirror site. So we shall see, thanks again for your help! :good:

Before now, were you using a Google Play app from a mirror site?
If so, the mirror site apk may be your problem. Those are usually coded for either specific DPI or "all", which may not be what our phones require.
Just throwing out ideas...

I had to force a manual update of the play store! The apps are now there. I had downloaded the play store from a mirror and used it to see if that would work. When it didn't, I reset my play store as suggested in the google trouble shooting settings. But the store is updating now and all apps that weren't appearing, now are! Here's what it was on before, and what it updated too. IDK why a forced time and date update didn't jumpstart it but oh well it's fixed haha.
Hello. I can't seem to be able to send or receive SMS messages after uninstalling Google play services through Universal Android Debloater. Everything works fine after i restore the said package. Tested it with the preinstalled Google messaging app (which would be expected to not work), AOSP Messaging and Simple SMS Messenger. Every app gives out the same result. I would really like to get rid of Gapps on my phone but i find SMS a pretty essential feature. If anybody has any idea what may be going on in this instance and has got any knowledge how to fix it please let me know. I like this phone and would rather not go back to the Samsung Galaxy s4 I've had before. Currently running stock Android 11 rom with build number of qssi-user 11 RKQ1.200903.002 v12.0.21.0.RFQMIXM. If you need me to add additional data please let me know. I'm not sure what else may be important.
I disable Google play Services all the time and it doesn't effect text messages. Obviously the app you're using is a dependency of Google play Services. Either use another text app or temporarily disable Goodle play Services (the better option as you retain complete control).

Thank you for responding. I too have always deleted the Google play services from stock roms and never flashed Gapps on custom ones and not once it did have an effect on ability to send or receive SMS. This time however things appear to be somehow different. Disabling the Play services works but isn't an option. the SMS works with it disabled but every app just yells at me to turn it back on. I have tried "AOSP Messaging" and "Simple SMS Messenger" and neither have worked with the package uninstalled. Do you have any messaging app you would recommend?

You can stop the screaming by disabling the notifications that are responsible. I kill Playstore with Package Disabler. I'm running Samsung's so I'm simply using the native Samsung message app. Works well for me.
You can try it, but it may have Samsung dependencies it needs or not. I'm running on Android 9, Android 11 and up might puke on it. Worth a shot...

Yes. Unfortunately Samsung messaging app must have some dependencies because it does crash every time. I used "Universal android debloater" to delete google play services from my Samsung note FE and it indeed didn't cause any problem on that phone (or any other). I can also add that "Signal" messaging app doesn't work after after uninstalling Play services. I really doubt its the messaging app's fault. Has to be something else.

It was worth a try. Samsung has its own ecosystem. Sammy has some cool apps which is one reason I run stock.
Some apps won't load without Google play Services. This is one reason why I don't permanently disable it... I hate it though as it consistently pulls the SOT down by 1-2%@hr just by running. Trashware. Gmail is a dependency of it. Playstore paid apps need it for intial activation but firewall blocking them lets them run normally after activation. It's quit the terror...

I've never used apps that require Google play services to run and most that says they do, doesn't need it in reality. That however is not the point. I am trying to figure out why the hell is SMS functionality tied up to some useless to my taste spying API. I know this smartphone runs android One which may have been a deal with the devil but there has to be a way for SMS messages to work without com.google.android.gms. It really shouldn't be a problem.

They all probably using the same source code that's dependent on GPS. Obviously there must be a some that aren't. Never had to go down that rabbit hole...
I use mostly older vetted apps because Playstore still keeps having rude surprises. A app may download clean only to try and update its payload latter. I firewall block anything that doesn't need access to run and monitor those that do. Had zero issues with malware for over 2 years in spite of still running on Pie. I don't push my luck.

I am pretty confident that the Messaging app itself is not the problem. All of the SMS Apps i have tested worked fine on phones I didn't even flashed Gapps on and had no trouble on the phones where Google services were deleted. I have tried to go back back to the Android 10 or Android 9 stock rom but the phone promptly hardbricks itself after trying so (Had to flash service rom through EDL). Right now i switched to my note 7 with the GSF deleted using the same method and I can send messages just fine, but I will try to find a solution for this problem. I can't stand google stopping me from using such important feature.

Check the app's permissions.
Try using Google play Services with all it's permissions off.

I can send SMS no problem even with Google play services disabled. That however i find a dirty fix. Using the "uninstall" option form UAD prevents loading GSF into memory and indirectly affects the apps to not scream at you with Google play services requests. What I will try however is straight up deleting the app using root. Will tell how it turned out.

I always have GSFramework disabled via settings That and GplayS aren't needed for texting on my devices. Samsung is using Apache open source code.
