Hi everyone, i am on android 4.1.2/ 1.26.502.12. i got the phone when it came out. Back then i followed a guide similar or maybe same
[Tutorial] Root, Unlock, Recovery and flashing a Custom ROM. Now i have stock 4.1.2 rooted and bootloader unlocked with s-off
I wanted to update my firmware but because i have a custom recovery t.w.r.p i cant get updates straight from ATT.
i want to update without losing any settings or having my files deleted. How do i do that?
I have been away from modding my phone so iam not exactly fresh on everything.

Regardless of the method to do a complete update to the KitKat will require the phone and all data on it to be wiped. There is no way to avoid this. I would suggest backing all your stuff up to a PC if you wish to do this.

Hello
I had rooted my S3 few days ago with this tool SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 TOOLKIT V1.0 so my phone has now root access a CWM.
Modem version I9300XXLEF
Number version IMM76D.I9300XXALEF
But notification said that there's new update available - 8,91MB installation brakes after restart cause lack of some signed files, is it possible to update my phone now but without erasing any data ?
I have found latest firmware here Samsung-Updates.com-GT-I9300_XEO_1_20120612172415_pax5uhw4id.zip XEO for Poland but don't want to loose any data from phone
Which tool should I use and what files should I use ?
Thank You for any help.
If you want to go back to stock rom why don't you use the Toolkit again? It's pretty straight forward.
Just flash the latest Firmware via CWM if you want to update.
thread: Official Stock Firmware (up to latest)
back-up via Titanium Backup if you don't want to lose your data

I'm still on stock ROM but rooted and with CWM, so there's no way just to apply modified update, or to unroot it with stock bootloader just to do an update and then root it again with CWM ?
@bordikun
Yeah, I have read it but it's full firmware/ROM if I understand it correctly, I got Titanium Backup and use it but just feel that all this is just an overkill, so many procedures just to update 8,91MB of data ?
have you tried there ?

Good Morning everyone. I need to flash back to 4.1.2 to get my phone looked at. Is it possible to re-root after I get my phone back? I see people are having problems using casual and getting a partition 60 missing? or something on that order any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you say "flash back to 4.1.2", do you mean just flash a stock 4.1.2 ROM, or use ODIN to restore your phone to factory locked condition?
As long as the phone does not accept the 4.3 OTA then casual will still work. If the 4.3 OTA gets installed on your phone, then you will not be able to unlock the bootloader again. You can still achieve root access, but not unlock, which will prevent you from being able to install custom roms.
I just want to make sure I've got this right. I've done the VRUEMJ9 4.3 OTA update. If I flash back to the stock VRAMC3 4.1.2 build using ODIN, I still won't be able to unlock my bootloader?
If so, I wish I'd known this before I took the OTA update. On my old phone, I could just sbf to an older build and that took care of any problems. I thought that it would be the same with this phone, but I guess not. Frustrating.

That is the case, unfortunately. From the research I've done it would seem the bootloader on this device cannot be downgraded. The files we have available to flash via ODIN do not change the bootloader, they are not full images. And yes it is frustrating, several of my family members were not the happy with the 4.3 OTA and were ready to take the custom ROM plunge, too late.

Is there a way to track down the full bootloader img for older versions?

Hi guys, long time lurker but first time poster.
I'm currently on MDK, rooted with TWRP recovery, and was interested in updating to the latest OS. I have a few questions:
1) Is it currently worth the update to MJ7?
2) How would I go about resetting the recovery and Android to stock? Haven't found much info for the recovery, and I don't want to brick my phone by screwing something up, and from what I understand I have to go back to the stock recovery before updating to MJ7.
Thanks in advance!

Why would you want to update that will lock your bootloader down? You can still run all custom ROMS based on new firmware kernels without updating....I definitely would not

Don't update your bootloader. There's no reason at all to do that, and there's no going back if you do. A locked bootloader gives zero benefits, excluding perhaps KNOX but I wouldn't call that a benefit.
You can update your modem without updating your bootloader by downloading one and flashing in TWRP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2487298
There are some improvements since MDK in those. You'll want either 1545VRUEMJ7_modem.zip or I545VRUEMK2_modem.zip from the modems only section.
If you want the latest TouchWiz, you'll need to be on MDK to get it since Verizon still hasn't released a 4.4 update. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2674280
If you just want the latest android, try the GPE rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2643031
Note that if you update your modem, your phone will show *MJ7 or *MK2 in About Phone -> Baseband. That does not mean you don't have the MDK bootloader. You can always use this app to check your bootloader version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo
Bootloader -> Definitely stay on MDK.
Modem -> Go ahead and update, it won't affect your ability to flash roms or reduce your resale value. Plus, you can go backwards with modems if you want; you can't with bootloaders.
I have Verizon Note 2 that is on 4.3 VRUAND3. The phone was rooted by the Kingo Method, which I think messed with the recovery. The phone has been un-rooted, but will not get the 4.4.2 OTA. It fails on install. The bootloader has never ever been unlocked on this phone. I have read multiple threads on firmware upgrading and reverting to stock.
What I want to know is this: Can I flash the 4.4.2 stock firmware to this phone to update it. I am aware I will lose all data and will have to reset the phone. That is not an issue. I want to make sure that I can safely flash the firmware to update it and not end up with an expensive paperweight.
Thanks for looking and any help provided.

Yes you can.. Find the firmware on Sammobile.com>Firmwares>Search>SCH-I605.. Download ND7 4.4.2:good:
Thank you for the quick response. I know what I will be doing later this evening.
I have my T-Mobile LG V-10 rooted with Sir-Altus rom currently.
Without starting a fight or anything, I am trying to find out how I could go about restoring my phone to stock to be able to accept the Marshmellow update successfully without bricking my phone.
I understand that there is a difficulty in rooting Marshmellow and I am OK with that.
Can anyone link to a step-by-step on how to restore my phone to fully stock so I can accept the Marshmellow update and apply it?
Thank you,
Whiteice

Should be pretty straight-forward. Also as an FYI, you now CAN root you LG V10 starting from 6.0 (Marshmallow) stock. So there's really not much risk involved. I think the upgrade from 5.1.1 to 6.0 relocks your bootloader so...i don't think you have to do much. If you have an upgrade option in your settings on the phone you can take it or you can go to the LG website and download the software and follow the steps. http://www.lg.com/us/support/mobile-software-updates
Can I accept the update on the phone rooted and with TWRP installed?
"I wouldn't do it by just downloading the update and installing it through the ui", you'll probably get stuck in a boot loop on the lg logo boot screen! Try researching kdz or tot flashing! Youll then only have to click a few times on your PC and after that the file should just upgrade the phone through your USB hub
You can uodate using Eliminater74's Rom.
Flash Part 1 - Dont Reboot
Flash Part 2 - Dont Reboot
Flash Super SU
*in Eliminater74s Rom OP it says to use Fastboot again to OEM unlock. Just read it thoroughly*
