Yea from what I understand no update will turn s-on however you will be unrooted. Simply reroot through twrp and you'll be fine.

Just a word of caution, I know from experience on several other devices that Verizon usually uses OTA's to lock bootloaders and obviously unroot. Grant it, these phones have been mostly Samsung devices, but I'm just saying be careful. You don't want to update and find out your stuck for some reason.. Had it happen... Not fun... Not saying it will happen this way with our Max though either.

But thanks! I wanna take a look at this anyways.

doesnt this mean htc basically voids the warranty and we can not get a replacement because our phones in their database as rooted via HTC
HTC's method still has S-On its a deal breaker for me. No custom recovery and my warranty is partially void. I'm good with revolutionary method. Hopefully they will update root with the new ota.

From HTC
I acknowledge that use of the unlock bootloader may void all or parts of my warranty device and my device may not function as intended by HTC.
I acknowledge that, if my device requires repairs, HTC may charge for additional costs due to the unlocked bootloade

umm unlocked = S-OFF. that was the whole point.
Interesting....
No way am I going to unlock like this (Thank you Revolution!) but this reads like while warranty "status" will be changed, it's in the event of a "bricked" device. So maybe Sprint can't say they won't honor MFG defects, broken screens and the other issues that we would typically UNROOT for before going to the Sprint store.
I am going to find the actual disclaimer BUT under the FAQ section titled "What does this mean for me?" it reads.
"Unlocking the bootloader means that you now have the ability to customize software on your device. Please note that changing your bootloader can cause significant issues with your device and once you have unlocked your device, you have agreed to the disclaimer that states a change in warranty status such that in the event you render your device unusable, you are responsible for the recovery of your device, whether by repair or by other means."
What do you guys/gals think?
ETA: I didn't see the text in the posts that came in as I was typing BUT here are images of the actual pages that you have to click through.
So what exactly does this unlock if you can't flash anything through the bootloader? I kinda thought that was the whole point.
I appreciate that they are trying but I just don't understand what this actually allows you to do.

Believe me, I would much rather have s-off too, but flashing kernels through fastboot doesn't bug me. I actually use the stock kernel anyway lol.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Thought I'd give my input... If you like waiting for the next update to Revolutionary that's fine, but the HTC Method works fine. Only "setback" is that you have to flash through fastboot. Not really much of an issue. And at that you will only have to do it through fastboot if you are going to be using a different kernel. If by some chance you are going to another ROM that has the same kernel then you won't need to do fastboot.
It works fine, I've run CM7 alpha through this method with no issues. Aside from the somewhat buggy alpha release but that's expected...
So it comes down to your preference. Do what you want, it's your phone. Both methods will work.
use revolutionary now then just revert back to stock and re-run the new revolutionary when it's released.

I used the HTC method and I am rooted and running a custom ROM. Don't see practical differences at this point.
So with HTC method what happens if you run a custom ROM with custom kernel built in like synergys latest nightly. Does it default to stock kernel?

Also a reminder that after S-off there is no need to unlock bootloader since (let them know to agree to install JB Hboot) JB Hboot allows for fastboot commands and you can just install a recovery via commands.
I even used your Noob tool after s-off to install a recovery.
It looks functional but maybe you should make the ui like yourbother program. Also a great idea would be to find a way to make the program an eye that does not require a folder. A folder is fine but not preferable. It's fine as is but that is all I think it n3ds to be notable.

Everyone can wait for this phone to be rooted once again , but I would bet that most of the Devs involved have moved on to rooting more in demand phones at this point . I am S-Off , but if I wasnt by now I would have J-Tagged because honestly I wouldnt hold my breath on a Root to be found at this point . I could be wrong but I doubt it , This is just my two cents .
Several devs are still working on it. They are having trouble unlocking the bootloader on 2.04. 2.06 is even harder from what I have read. They have root but its only temp from what I can tell. It won't stick because of locked bootloader.

Temp root would at least allow us to remove the bloatware, which is one of the bigger annoyances for me. I'll go searching for that information, but if you happen to know where to look, I'd appreciate the link.

Nope. /system is write protected. To the end user(you and me) temp root is all but useless. That's why wasn't released. All it has a use for is finding other exploits/making them work. It's likely that the new s off method starts with temproot.

Hey everyone,
I just had a couple of questions regarding the DNA. I just bought one that I'm using on AT&T, and though it works well, I can't accept Verizon updates because I don't use a Verizon working SIM. Therefore, I'd like to unlock the bootloader and root the phone so I can install newer builds that have been released and try others. I've done some research and got quite confused when I found that there are several unlock methods, but I'm not sure which one to use. I'm pretty sure my phone is running the original software that came with the DNA when it came out. If someone could help direct me where I need to go or with tips on what I need to do, I would really be grateful. Thank you!

Get suoercid2.apk run the application . Reboot bootloader to make sure cid 222222222 took. Proceed to HTC dev unlock. Then follow facepalm for s-off

So I've run the supercid2.apk several times and each time i still get VZW or whatever instead of 222222222 when I type fastboot oem cid into a cmd window... Any ideas?

May want to post the actual device info before assuming anything will work or its on the original firmware, it may not be.

Check sw version and post it here. You may already be updated to 2.04. If that's the case there is no root or s-off method available at the moment , unless you send it in. I would hold off until moonshine is released to see your options.

Sounds like you aren't on the original firmware.

You're on the newest update, not the original software, you'll want to visit moonshine.io for unlocking and s-off and all that fun stuff.

I thought one of the posts above stated that there was no unlock method for the newest update?

Oh... Lol. Well that's great! So the updated info for unlocking is here in the forums? I would assume the development section? Thanks again!
