Bootloader - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i have some questions on XZ2
I know that unlocking your bootloader wipes your DRM Keys but can someone give me a list of stuff that stops working afterwards?
How big is an improvement is the Z2 conpared to the Z1
-UI is more responsive... Faster?
-does the device feel nice. Buttons. Screen, flaps etc/ect?
-whats the device like to work with
Lets say i want to port Envi-OS or ubuntu touch (your choice) how hard would that be as oppsosed to porting to Xperia S or Nexus 5 (i may concider trying such a thing)
What can you do?
I do a tonne of nonsense with my phones
-i play games that destroy my battery in minuites
- i hotboot linux OSs over android
-i tinker with stuff for hours
-I watch movies/youtube nonsense for hours
-much else i do...
>you own opinion is apreciated greatly aswell
Rooting /flashing
How hard is this device to root or flash things onto
Is it as easy as using a tool to flash a supersu zip or a kernel with autoroot?(same something about that somewhere)

Well, You can use a tutorial to save your keys and unlock your bootloader! I always unlocked the official way and I have never saved any keys. I felt no difference really but I have read that some users complained about it so I will tell you to make a back up of TA. There are many tutorials available.
Well, If you talk about improvements, there are clear improvements in hardware and to the eye, you might not actually notice much unless you keep the devices side by side!
By Porting, do you mean to flash a ROM or to actually programme to PORT it for your device ? If you mean to flash, if the support is available. There would be no problem! Ubuntu has been ported easily on many devices so I dont think Z2 won't be able to handle it!
Well, you can use your phone for games, movies/ youtube and experiment with it! I have always rooted my phone within two hours of purchase so I think it is okay if you like to play with it a bit!
Heavy games drain battery really quicker whilst movies will give you 5-6 hours of play back usually. You should check out gsmarena or phonearena for battery tests on Z2 which will make it much easier for you to decide!
Rooting/Flashing :
It is getting easier and easier and my guess is that it will only take 2-7 minutes to flash a ROM/kernel or Root it depending upon if you know basics about it! Secondly remember the drivers are really important so make sure you have all the drivers before trying to root/flash as it will try to find your device forever!
Good Luck

That's good to know so I'm assuming unlocking your boot loader only breaks bravia engine and the usual media nonsenses
I am quite familiar with a lot of the above i was wondering about any odd things i should know
I have a Sony Xperia S and I've been test building Envi-OS for Xperia S

[REQ] Nuttin but a phone ROM

All these wonderful ROMs; I am impressed but:
1) I obtained my HTC Touch Pro by trading an unwanted/unneeded old notebook computer for it so kinda sorta in a way I got the phone "for nothing".
Addition: IE: I didn't purposely spent $400 to get this phone. I just got it.
2) I don't really need a pocket PC.
Addition: Not now. Not today. Maybe later.
3) I don't really need a smart phone.
Addition: The key word being "need". All I "need" right now is a phone. I'll trade all the cool fancyness for battery life. My old Straight Talk phone could sit there on standby for a week and not have the battery indicator drop more than a couple notches if even that much. I could use it for all week without charging it. Yes, I know the TP is a Pocket PC and a phone; just making a point.
4) The battery life on this thing is horrible (24 hours on standby costs 20%+ of the battery power) I assume it's because it's doing all those extra Pocket PC/Windows stuff in the background.
Addition: If I charge it before I go out and charge it while I'm out it may last the entire day but likely not.
5) All I really *need* is a camera phone. Phone calls, voicemail, text/media messages, snapshot and video, ...that's about it.
6) The extra unneeded stuff is taking up flash-ram space that could be used for storing pictures and video.
Addition: Strip it all out and I'll have room for lots of pic and videos.
7) Flashing back to the original ROM is easy and takes a few minutes so no harm done by "dumbing-down" the current ROM.
Addition: When I want the smart phone I'll flash on a super-duper all-singing-all-dancing ROM.
8) A Pocket PC is very cool but if I want a portable computer I have a much more powerful very nice netbook that is more or less a part of my body so I don't *need* another computer on my person.
That said, has anybody make a stripped down/basic/bare minumum/no frills/no extras/maximum battery life/minimum flash memory used/no fancy stuff/no wifi/gps/internet connection/nuttin-but-a-camera phone ROM?
Addition: IE: Don't do nothing but make calls and take pictures. Simple. Fast. Maximum battery life. A Dumb Phone (for now anyway).
Thanks.
P.S. No. I don't wish to trade it for a dumb phone. I may some day want a smart phone/Pocket PC but not right now.

I'm not sure what your expectations are, but only losing 20% in 24 hours is great! I doubt you'll do any better than that. An always active data connection, GPS, and Wi-Fi are the big things that are going to kill battery life, not the OS. I would make sure you have the matching rilphone.dll for the version of radio you are using, however.

What you've basically described is a Stock ROM. These are basically just ROMs with the newest build of Windows Mobile and some essential apps, meaning that memory and CPU usage is low. But most of the things that consume battery are switch-off-able, such as the backlight, WiFi, 3G connection, GPS, Bluetooth etc. through the Settings menu or the Comm Manager. If you haven't flashed your phone to a custom ROM yet, you won't get much more basic than the standard 6.1 ROM that your carrier put on the phone to start with.
If you do want Windows Mobile 6.5 but don't want all the frills, you can either be brave and cook a stock-like ROM yourself, or try one from the forums:
[KITCHEN][ROM][WWE][MAR-13-2010] RomRom WM6.5 23547 stock-like Kitchen & ROM is the most updated stock-like kitchen/ROM.

>I'm not sure what your expectations are, but only losing 20% in

But that's in Airplane mode (all radios off)! With the radios on it will stand by for about a day before the battery is dead.
Expectations:
"Standby time: Up to 462 hours for WCDMA"
"Talk time: Up to 378 minutes for WCDMA"
http://www.htc.com/www/product/touchpro/specification.html
Reality:
More like up to 120 hours and up to 90 minutes.

Ben Dude,

Sad to hear. The ROM that came with the phone is full of extra stuff and sucks the battery like crazy. The Energy ROM I flashed has even more stuff seems to be easier on battery life. We'll see. This Energy ROM is very cool and maybe I DO want a smart phone right now. The main thing was the battery life. I thought stripping down a ROM would increase battery life due to less stuff running and taking up precious flashram space. Well, SD cards are cheap I guess. I can move as much as possible to external storage.
Maybe I'll have to learn to cook. A stripped-down stock ROM with *everything* removed except phone and camera software. It boots up to a nice wallpaper with two buttons that say "Phone" and "Camera". All radios except phone deactivated. It might be fun to learn how to do that.
Thanks, Guys.
I would happily trade you an LG Xenon for your Fuze.

You can try, but you'll still have to flash the entire operating system; as far as I know it's not as easy as what you've said. I suppose the closest would be a 6.1 ROM without Manila (HTC Sense), no bloatware installed and the hotkeys set as 'phone' and 'camera'. But I doubt that it would be worth trying to truly 'cook out' things like GPS, as they really can be switched off with one button press, and that's probably why nobody does (hence your search for a ROM ).
I've had amazing battery life using the ROM in my sig (dont even think about using android though-- it's fun but not ready for daily use).
install S2U2 -- it makes locking easier but also reduces how often the screen turns on in your pocket. You can set up the screen off delays and such and it saves you a ton of battery life.
Disable the touchflo home screen-- it's pretty superfluous and probably drains battery faster.
If battery life is really bad, consider buying a new one. Check the total talk time (start -> settings -> device information -> call duration) to get an idea of how used the phone is. Those counters don't reset when you flash a new ROM.
try timolols and turn off data.
@ Myrddin
I'll bet you would! Thanks but I want this phone; just trying to make it "My Phone" rather than "Sprint's Phone".
@Storm 717
>I've had amazing battery life using the

I'll try it. As long as I still have my Sprint Picture Mail. It's the only app I really use and need.

just make sure if you flash to flash a CMDA one and not a GSM rom or you will likely brick your phone

Yes, I've read that and believe it but why? Wouldn't it just not work and then you flash a proper ROM over it?
I know that if you give a little donation to NRGZ or the Capn they can do a perfect ROM for your "need"
Talk to them!
I hate to promote my own ROM, but give my stock-like ROM a try. It's almost exactly what you describe.
Alternatively, I can whip up an even more stripped-down version if you like. Let me know.

its because the amount of voltage/wattage to the radio (the part that connects to the network) is different between gsm and cmda so when you flash a cmda rom on a gsm(sim card)phone then it literally breaks it and also happens vis-versa

Well, that's bad designing. You'd think there would be a check for that in the hardware in case some noobie tech at Sprint/Verizon/AT&T was really tired and tried to update your phone with the wrong ROM. Like a splashscreen saying "GSM Verizon Diamond ROM detected - This is a Touch Pro 1 CDMA Phone" and then it just stops dead on that screen with an endless do-nothing loop.
************
MODIFICATION REQUEST, YOU BRAINS OUT THERE! CAN IT BE DONE?
SAVE US FROM OURSELVES! Can the phones be modified to detect improper ROMs so it doesn't even try to fully boot up/blow up? Some of us are really stu.. frightened noobies.
************
Or a modification in the [one of those files in the RUU folder] that examines the phone and refuses to proceed if the .nbh filoes doesn't match the phone it sees".
Is there any other way to brick a phone. The child in me wants to play with cool stuff but the adult in me says if "it aint broke don't fix it! You don't need a $400 brick"!
* Yes, I know about Hackentosh but don't understand how it works.
On the official HTC site, you can only download a ROM after you type in your phone's serial number, which checks that you have the right hardware for the upgrade. As far as HTC care, this matter has been dealt with. I would guess that techs working for carriers probably have to input your SN too.
There are so many tutorials and guides on this site for first time flashers that if they don't read them first, it's their own fault for being ignorant. Most chefs will warn about it too.

Yes but sadly a few don't. I have seen at least one post in the CDMA section that mentions way down "Remove the sim card while flashing the ROM". Oop, that's a GSM phone, no? If I would missed that one line I may have flashed that ROM by accident. Also, a few say something like "For the TP" but don't mention CDMA or GSM anywhere. You have to HOPE it's in the correct section. I just wanted to be 100% safe from accidents.
---
Moot point though; I'm through with flashing. None of the ROMs I found were as smooth and fast as the stock ROM. Beautiful, oh yes, but slow and locking up the phone every little while. It stinks but it runs fine.
I think it's just probably because this site is dedicated to getting the most out of our devices and what you're looking for just doesn't fit in with that. In my experience, I've never had a slow, unstable or just unusable stock ROM. I think your best bet is just to buy a bigger microSD card if you want more space for media, stick with WM6.1 and switch off everything you don't need (3G connection, Wi-Fi, screen brightness, any bloatware, Bluetooth, you know the rest).
With regards to the CDMA/GSM issue, I've never really considered it because I've never been the first to try out a ROM. If it really was posted in the wrong section (which I think is unlikely) it would only take one person other than yourself to flash it and comment before everyone realised. Just make sure you're not that person

First answer is that yes the manufacturers DO in fact have a way to block improper roms. This is why they initially have a CID lock. CID locks prevent the usage of Non-Carrier roms being installed on the phone. Once its had this lock removed, you are able to install non-factory firmwares ( like the ones these wonderful chefs create for us ). In a sense, you take it in your own hands if you flash the wrong firmware for your device, because you have already removed the protection from the carrier.
Second answer. A Hackintosh is computer not made by apple that is running Apples OSX. There are several ways to achieve this, one of which is using an EFI ( Apples Bios Type ) Emulator such as Chameleon or Boot123 , or by using a chipset capable of running the Vanilla ( OEM ) Kernel as is ( Specific Intel chipsets ). I could help direct you to the proper places to discuss this in a PM if you want further information.
Hope those answers helped some

1) I see. Thanks.
Thought!
The official Sprint upgrade ROM package works on a locked phone. I've installed it. It flashed and worked.
The official Sprint upgrade ROM's .nph file is a signed ROM, right? A signed ROM will get past the CID lock.
You guys are geniuses. Why not put a "sign" code into a cooked ROM for safety? Leave the CID protection in place and let it block incorrect ROMS. Am I being too simplistic?
2) The hackintosh line was a leftover from when I was composing the post. I should have seen and removed it.

Reasons to unlock Bootloader?

OK, so I bought an Xperia Z Ultra a few days ago, and I ensured it was a unlockable device, after owning all my previous Xperia phones unlocked.
The main reason I was unlocking before on my previous Z, S and T was because battery savings, meaning custom kernel undervolting, and several battery friendly moded stock kernel options. And of course, some easy rooting, mainly for changing the ugly high dpi the Z has, and have some real screen state, not big clunky icons, fonts and stuff on a 5" display.
I never been attracted to CM and or PAC for that matter either, because they break too many things to even consider them my daily drivers IMHO, and with the arrival of the Snapdragon 800 chipsets speed is never an issue, unlike before on weak handsets like S and X10 on which a custom rom did wonders for the performance.
On the Z Ultra, on the other hand, battery life is proving itself to be outstanding, way more than I expected it to be, as I was afraid the 3000mah battery wasn't gonna cut it due to screen to battery size ratio. Standard dpi is also excellent, alongside kit kat performace. Also, having a quick look on the development section, there isn't too much going on, unlike the Z, I can't seem to find a completely stock kernel that has just undervolting and some recovery options, heck, I don't recall there being a stock based kernel at all.
So, what's your main reason for unlocking this precise device?
Also, how the battery life on stock rom compares to Google Play edition?

The only need to unlock bootloader is to install the custom room set or custom kernel, but I'm like you and find the stock Sony experience ticks all the boxes I'm interested in. They've done a great job with the stock rom.
Guess the main appeal is for the gpe build.

That's the thing with "Nexus'" (Nexi?). Want a different ROM environment? Too bad. You're stuck with AOSP. Got the original Ultra? You got two environments to choose from. Stock Sony and AOSP, so when you get bored with one of them, you can easily swap. That's one thing that's scarying me away from the Nexus-line. And we also have the GPe version which means that the GPe will get 4.5/5.0 early, and we'll be able to just flash it (after some minor modifications).
I guess it's possible to get a Sony ROM running on the GPe version, but there aren't that many devs around here, so stuff like that will take a fair bit of time. Just hang in there though!

Well that's a lot easier. The Sony KitKat apps are all over the place her at XDA, so just find and install them. I did it myself when I ran the GPe ROM and it worked just fine. You may have to adjust the DPI, but that's not an issue.

Fair enough I've found a few and also a few that won't install I've looked for a stock camera apk and a few others I couldn't get to install without root.
I doubt the camera will work, but Album, Movies, Walkman and all those works fine (or so they should)

Yea couldn't find a camera apk but I do have the others but did have to find an older movies apk that would actually work. My situation is that I was looking forward to trying xperia out but also wanted the 6806 model but came across a great deal for the gpe and forgot that it wouldn't have xperia on it.
Hi all,
just jumped from my Mega 6.3 to ZU, and it's been ages I've had a sony device (Arc, I think ), but the price I found it at was just too good to pass.
Now, I've been reading the various threads about downgrading FW then up again, and so on...
I have to say I am usually not afraid of that stuff, but this time I've got really no waranty, and I'm too concerned about breaking something. I already officialy upgraded to KK.
So My question : unlocking the bootloader will make me lose the DRM keys, BUT will also allow me to bipass all the downgrade stuff and jump on custom KK roms? (of course, flashing custom reco and stuff first!)
I must say i do not care for the Bravia engine and others.
Thanks to let me know

Thanks for you quick answer!
Edit:
I kept reading (yes I do read the forums a lot before and after a question, haha!) and I read that unlocking the bootloader on an official KK rom will not break x-reality ? Is that correct?

There should not be any other issue. Personally I have never had good experiences with rooting and installing custom kernels/roms. Stock ROM's are always best (just disable bloatware apps, no need to delete them).
X-reality is not disabled on KK after unlocking. But you can always add xpose modules custom bravia etc after rooting.
The only reason that I might root my ZU is for 'SD card functionality' which I hope Sony re-enable in a future update.

Cool.
I'll also keep it stock for a week or so, to enjoy it properly, then the flashing finger will start to hitch again
Will take it from here, thanks for taking the time to answer to me

If you aren't worried about the DRM keys the I would just unlock the BL. The DRM keys are needed for netflix and track ID and maybe some other things?

My research pointed to that too, those DRM keys are actually pretty limited in scope (for me).
The biggest thing to lose is the Bravia engine, since that affects the phone in a more general way. But as I read, if unlocking the bootloader when on official Kitkat, the keys are no longer affected.
Well, I guess better safe than sorry, and I'll try to backup the TA partition anyway ^^

Are you sure? I would think that your warranty is the most important thing to keep intact, no? Let's say you just drop backing up the TA partition and you run into some hardware issues that can't be fixed by flashing. What do you do? Throw it into the nearest river? Pay $XXX to fix it? Or, just restore the backup?
It's pretty easy and straight forward. Downgrade to 532, root, backup TA, update to 681 (KitKat) again, and do whatever you want.

Yep, you are right of course, but this device I've got has no waranty. Well, gray market waranty at any rate where I guess they don't check the bootloader state, and any breakage will have to be paid at full price.
I will do the backup, just to be sure, as I concluded in my post
Thanks for all the advice!

Notes for choosing to root their phone!

In this thread im going to show u some important notes for new people on rooting or some people who have no experience on rooting their devices! Here's some PROS and CONS!
Cons:
1. Rooting makes u have more functionality yet drains mostly the battery. It is because of XPOSED Modules, Tweaks and other flashed things on youre phone, it also somehow slows down the phone's performance. Except for the flashed zip that helps your performance and batter enhanced.
2. Root voids warranty, just any other warning: IT VOIDS WARRANTIES. Somehow except for flashing STOCK, it will regain ur phone's warranty (except for other devices).
3. Rooting triggers unability of updating ur phone to latest stock firmware except for doing the kies method.
4. It probably causes u too brick you phone that can completely kill the phone not because of the hardware but the software.
Pros:
1. Root takes u to monetization too! Which is a good thing if you're an business guy who doesnt want to go see the sun and just wants to love also their ol friend named Linux
2. Blocks and remove bloatware's which is also a good thing on performance and batter enhancement.
3. Hours of learning and teaching on the forums. This is like my life right now, everyday I look onto youre problems and replies answers which can be a failure or success.
4. Its damn legal! Theres nothing gonna stop you from rooting but dont go into Watch Dogs style where he has a custom OS which can hack into Goverment and techs.
5. Tons of apps that can be helpful on your performance, battery enhancement, device modification, monetization and ANY OTHER COOL STUFF!

Its rooting still worth it?

So I been a long time Android user and all my devices had always been rooted. Recently I been having this dilemma that with how hard is getting to root devices like huawei or some other devices and with the issue of warranty, also the fact that almost every custom ROM has Bugs and issues some minors some a bit more concerning like cameras not working reboots etc. I tried many different ROMs before with my other devices and honestly they all had issues sometimes even worse then the original ROM constants flashing for the fixes and factory resets etc. Even with custom kernels and stock ROMs with stock kernels rooting wasn't making real sense. To be able to modify my kernel settings for what 20 minutes more of sot with lag or reboots, oc for what reason to have my phone over heat? To erase bloatware? I can disable them and through adb with our rooting. Before it made sense because Android was a young os and many things need root to be applied but now Im not sure . Do the benefits supersede the cost and time?
So my question is: does it really makes sense to root Android at this point ?
I agree, every android phone I had was rooted the day it came out of the box. Since I have a Huawei device, for me there is no more reason for rooting. Also the trouble isn't worth the risk anymore. No big benefits.
The main reason for me is adaway and lucky patcher but the time I'm spending to read posts on xda is really big because I'm scared to brake anything I would only recommend it if it's fun to you to play around with this kind of stuff and you are willing to spend time and risk your phone probably

I agree with you, I would spend so much time before reading and making sure that I wasn't going to hardbrick my device that it is very hard to keep doing it, I already hardbrick another huawei phone and it basically was left useless, after everything went fine with rooting and custom kernel it turn on boot normally then all of a sudden it didn't turn back on , only on fastboot mode, never found a way to recover it. Like you said if you have a spare device it's cool I even use to cook my own ROMs and cherry pick things I liked from source code but that was with devices like the htc m8 which was alot more developer friendly.

For adds I use virtual hosts app. No root needed, just the app and a hosts file on your sd card.

there is literally no other logic to root your device in modern times other than to get viper 4 android or james dsp.
in olden days i used to root ....to get full screen usage on device by hiding navigation bar ...like immersive mode etc....but now they have gesture navigation .....
. stock headphones audio controls/quality on each and every phone is "****" as compared to V4A .... and this thing this issue of inferiority will always remain...
custom roms are buggy....i have nevver ever come across a single custom rom in the past 7 years .... which didn't have bugs..... no matter how stable they claim it is/was .
coming towards huawei....at least they updated these kirin970 devices much much earlier than samsung phone flagship ones.... which released after..... these mates and honors ....

I totally agree, I have never ever come across a custom ROMs that isn't buggy they all have bugs and there's always something that you have to lose in terms of stock functionality in order to make them work. I'm really digging huawei devices even tho they have taken that Stand on the bootloader .
Almost all new browsers have ad block included so ads don't bother me in my use of the device. I had OP6 b4 and it was rooted and I personally can't see any difference in day2day use between rooted and non rooted device.
just wish there was an easy way to put the phone in airplane mode without root

I personally use brave browser which is a great super fast browser and it has tons of ad blocking option as well as sync between pc and the phone and it's not resource hungry like chrome. It's a great browser i really haven't found any good reason for rooting this mate 10 pro. Besides reading so many people bricking the **** out of this phone is just not worth my time.

Should I change MIUI for a custom ROM?

Hey there, how are u doing?
I just got my Poco X3 NFC (was using Mi A3), and I kinda feel like pure android is really better to use in general than MIUI (at least for me). Wondering if it's better to change it now, since I don't have much on phone (less than 1 week) or just keep MIUI because 12.5 is about to get there.
Was checking the forum and found a lot of ROMs, but I don't really get if's not "the same" as MIUI, since it's an Android ROM with modifications based on... something they wanted to change. Most popular ROMs seem to be ArrowOS, Ressurection-Remix, and others non official ROMs (LineageOS have Android 11 already). I have NO IDEA what I should be looking in general, no idea what is Selinux, permissive, don't flash with some softwares, etc. Not sure if it affects how I will use it commonly tbh.
I mean, I usually use my phone to access social media, use a lot of spotify/youtube, and I probably will need to root to have a good Linux machine running there for my studies (actually using UserLand), that's why I'm wondering about ROMs. Battery is really important since I run a virtual machine imo.
So, what do u think? Should I change MIUI with another custom ROM or just keep it because XIAOMI upgrades it frequently? Would you recommend some ROM in specific? As I said, just want good battery life and QoL using my apps and Bluetooth connection (phones and smartwatch 24/7).
Never used custom ROMs tbh, but would give a shot. Always loved community based stuff
On Xiaomi you can always flash stock and relock bootloader if you need to unlike Samsung (thanks Knox /s)
ArrowOS is my recommendation. Well made ROM. You can also flash F1xy kernel if you want more fluidity with still good battery life.
Only thing is you don't have the features of stock MIUI camera and flashing ANX Camera on ArrowOS didn't worked for me. If you want that, you can use crDroid which has it built-in.
Flash it. It offers better performance, good battery life + it's nice & clean. You can notice it simply by doing basic tasks. Less frames are dropped.
For OTA, do dirty flash of ROM, but I prefer clean flash as it makes sure that there are no bugs related to dirty flashing + I'm starting clean. I do clean flash every time I notice that Device side changelog is changed. I'm using ArrowOS which has updates almost every day. crDroid updates often too. Like once in 7 day, but it's not the fixed schedule. NitrogenOS updates every 15 days-1 month.
NitrogenOS was my ROM before, it was good, but ArrowOS is just better. ArrowOS & basically other ROMs are based on newest sources while NitrogenOS is the only ROM right now that is still based on 12.0.3 firmware. ArrowOS has Enforcing seLinux unlike Nitrogen etc. These small things is what makes ArrowOS better ROM than others. Only crDroid can "fight" with it imo.

I´ve had the phone for around 3 weeks now and it´s the first phone in years that I haven´t unlocked and installed custom Roms.
The reason is that my bank detects unlocked bootloader and I cannot use Google Pay which I use on a daily basis.
After debloating the phone and setting up the relevant apps so they don´t get shut down by the aggresive MIUI battery savings I am really satisfied. I also have a smartwatch connected 24/7 and I get around 8-9 hours SOT. Just normal usage, no gaming.
I also installed the MI Control Center from Play Store to customize the control center which is quite cool giving a bit of a customized look.
The only thing I am not to keen about is the fact that the Android security has not been updated since november 2020.
So far I am sticking with stock and looking forward to see what Miui 12.5 will be like.

OTA is the android updater? I'm kinda wants to update like I do with MIUI. Options > Updates > Update > Restart and Done
I don't use much cameras, just on my job tbh. As I said, just want a good battery to use my Linux on background (I already do it all day basically, I would say), and free ads (disabled all of them on MIUI, I think). Like, for example, installed Vanced YT on my Mi A3 in 5 minutes, while I reinstalled 3 times on POCO X3 and still can't log-on.

Not sure if my bank do that... hope it doesn't. Yes, lot of apps are useless and uninstalled already.
I only "game" idle games, which means like 30 mins/day.
Still wondering if I should or not try a ROM. Probably will on weekend since I won't use it.
Oh, and BTW, my night mode is kinda buggy in a few apps, had to disable it on android and use in-app features. Not sure if it's MIUI problem, but never happened on my Mi A3.

I've been using magisk hide for banking apps, I still get some random issues with some apps like not being able to register the fingerprint but overall I can use them all, the only app that really gives me any trouble is the sprint drive app.

Like I wrote my bank in Denmark detects unlocked bootloaders. So there is no way I can use my bank apps as long as the bootloader is unlocked .
I had problems using ArrowOS on my Redmi Note 8T and called the help service in my bank. When I told him my phone model the helpdesk guy asked me right away if I had unlocked my bootloader which I "admitted" I did. Turns out that the guy knew eveything about custom Roms, unlocked bootloaders and rooted phones. He told me that most banks in Denmark put safety first and do anything to lock out devices with unlocked bootloaders even if Safetny passes without problems.
So I haven´t even tried unlocking the bootloader on my X3 NFC as I use my bank apps and Google Pay everyday.
And I am actually quite satsfied with stock MIUI after debloating and twirking. Looking forward to see how 12.5 will improve the phone.

The most sensible answer is if you must ask, you don't need it. You'll likely get over your head, screw up your phone, whine and cry for help, when no one can cuz you're not even sure what, how, when or where you went wrong and don't remember exactly what you did, you'll end up regretting the whole thing, wish you never came to this site in the first place cuz now you gotta $250 paperweight, with no way to get another one. Now your parents are super mad and pretending you don't exist, you've resorted to eating only peanut butter n jelly sandwiches for every meal.. All this cuz you wanted a custom rom... yup

A couple of years ago or a bit more, I had a problem with a bank app here in Italy. It was possible to install it, it opened but was never able to login to my account with a "generic error". After calling the helpdesk, they did a check and informed me that the app didn't work for ROOTED PHONES...
One week after this call, my new account in another bank was active and fully operative so I moved all my money to the new bank.
If anyone would react in this way, this kind of abuses by banks will end very soon...

No, I wasn't like this in the beginning, like my first sentence says, if you have to ask, it probably isn't for you cuz it demonstrates a few lacking qualities that surely would make this difficult. No offense to OP but I'm being realistic, speaking of going back to the OPs question, he asks whether he should rock a custom rom or not. How can anyone realistically answer that for him? The only one that has that definite answer is the person asking it. No one here knows his skills, amount of knowledge, patience level, whether he can follow instructions or a tutorial well enough, whether he enjoys or tolerates reading, disposable cash, if he funks up a daily driver, can it be replaced, ect.... these are all key in learning and practicing installing roms. Going back to what I said originally if you must ask, meaning that you can't determine this for yourself, it's highly likely there's other things you can't do for yourself. Everyone here knows 99.9009% of this is done independently, reading these threads and trying things out. Plus 99.9999% of answers to questions pertaining to modding our devices are in these threads, yet so many fail to search instead go straight to the questions forum, create a new thread asking same question answered 5x already. So if someone comes here asking a question only they truly have answers to, are they likely to miracoulsly be independent suddenly or someone frequently needing assistance unable to perform tasks themselves? Once again back to my original post, "they've demonstrated this kind of work ethic already."
Yea I know my answer wasn't something some want to hear but I call it as I see it.
