Note 2 Motherboard switch. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I need help. I am losing my mind. I ordered a Verizon note 2 from eBay with a bad display so I could swap the mobo from it into a Sprint note 2 with a good display that I had laying around. The seller swears the phone was functional before the screen broke. Once I installed the mobo in the Sprint note 2 I immediately noticed it had no signal. Thinking I got scammed I bought another board off of eBay and upon installation I am in the same situation - no signal. Since then I have installed both Verizon mobo in two different Sprint note 2s and both have no signal.
Now, I realize that I could have gotten scammed on both boards, but I find it highly unlikely. An I missing something? Is it not as simple as just swapping a Verizon mobo into a Sprint housing? Do I have to swap every single piece from a Verizon phone into a Sprint housing? Doesn't Sprint and Verizon use the same frequencies, therefore their antenna arrays would be the same? I'm hoping someone can give some answers to the above. I thank anyone in advance the can help cure my insanity!

Unlike Sprint, Verizon uses a SIM card to activate on the network. I bet both your motherboards would work (assuming they have clean ESN) if you went and activated the phone at a Verizon store. I'm guessing you don't want to signa two year contract to test this, so if one of your friends has Verizon you can try to swap their SIM card into your Note2 and see if it picks up any signal.
I don't think it's possible for a Verizon Note II to work on the Sprint network though, if that is what you were trying to do. Sprint has some special chip that hard-codes the SIM information in their phones.

[Q]Verizon Sim Card And New Note 2

This is probably a very simplistic question, but an answer is appreciated. I've only had one Verizon smart phone and their cards are a bit different.
I have a S3. When I receive my Note 2 from Verizon on Monday, can I swap the new sim card with the one from my S3 and continue using the same number? With other carriers I know, but with Verizon I don't assume.
Thanks for your help.
I pulled out my SIM from my GNew and popped it into the Note 2 I got from Amazon today, works perfect and no hassle; VerizonWireless does see you do have a new device on their site (doesn't affect your plan or anything; I have unlimited data so had to buy phone at full retail from Amazon)
I had a nexus then got an S3, now I have the Note 2, all using the same sim card.

I have a Droid Razr Maxx (not the HD) that I hotswap all the time with my S3. In fact, if you go to your account online, you will see the device listed as your current device. The, you swap and the device you swapped to will be your listed device.
If you want to hot swap w a Iphone 5, though, you'll need a sim adapter because the Iphone uses a nanosim.

That's exactly what I wondered and hoped, guys. That's how it should be, but after signing up for the line I wasn't positive.
Thanks.
I went from my nexus to note and used the same sim. However I had no 4g. I went to verizon and they swapped sims for me. Not sure why that happened to me.

Just got my Verizon Note II today - no LTE

As the title says, I got my Verizon Note II today but no LTE so far. I just took the SIM out of my Galaxy Nexus, which gets Verizon LTE in my home, and put it in my Note II (purchased for retail price without contract). Maybe the radio is just weaker in the Note II, but my Nexus always gets LTE in my home.
Do I need to contact Verizon to activate the phone or should I be able to just stick the SIM in there and have it work?
It should work fine, I did yhe exact same thing. I was told it was better that I jumped from a phone using Microsim to another microsim phone because verizon was knocking people out of yhere unlimited data plans

I would be pretty irritated to pay $800 for a phone and then be told I had to give up my unlimited data. That would be the end of Verizon for me and my family, and we have been with Verizon forever.
I totally agree. I assume you have done a simple sim pull and reinsert. Have you tried Airplane mode on then off? Maybe something in the mobile network settings is wonkie?

My brother had a same issue with his Galaxy S3, but it was resolved by changing to new SIM card. You can also wait for 1 day and see if you get LTE signal....if not, you should take it to Verizon and demand a new SIM card.
This happened to me as well. I thought I could use my gnex sim for the n2, but only got 3g. Called vzw and activated the new sim and got 4G right away.

Very curious. When I bought my Gnote at the Verizon store, the rep removed the sim card from my Gnex and installed it in the note. Works fine for me. Have a strong LTE connection.
I switched from the GNex to the Note 2 and paid full retail for the phone to keep my unlimited data. But I activated my phone online and used the sim from my gnex in my note 2 and as soon as it booted up I had 4G.

Sometimes if you go into settings, more settings, mobile network, and select lte/cdma instead of global, it'll pick up lte.

Turned out I needed a new SIM card. Verizon store said it should have worked with the same card but that sometimes their system gets "confused". They swapped it out with no charge or hassle, and I still have my unlimited plan.

[Q] value with bad esn?

Long story short I have a white 16gb i605 with a small chip on the screen below the home button which is covered by the rubber case. It has an unpaid bill with Verizon. The stylus is missing.
It had the box and paperwork and charger and case with holster.
I use it through tmobile and I don't think it can be activated through Verizon due to the bill. I never tried.
I am going to get a bigger tablet and smaller phone. I tried this thinking it could combine two devices but really it has only replaced the phone and some of the stuffi use the tablet for so I'd rather just go back to small phone and big tablet.
I was just curious what is worth so I know what to sell it for.
Put it on ebay, its only worth what somebody will pay for it.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I would be surprised if anyone wanted that thing. Sounds quite useless as you have no spen(big feature) and an unpaid bill. You better post all that info if you sell it. Don't be a jerk off
Lastly, if it is a t mobile phone, then why post this on a section where you don't think it can be activated? Why not post in t mobile?

It is a verizon phone. *I* use it with t-mobile. I was under the impression that s-pens were cheaper than new phones.
I would not try to sell it as a clean esn phone which is why I am trying to get a realistic value as it is.
BTW Its far from useless. I can use talkatone and use it as a voip phone, put a tmobile sim in and use it as a t-mobile phone, put in an at&t sim and use it as a AT&T phone or connect to wifi and have a great little wifi toy.

I bought my i605 off of craigslist from somebody who had an unpaid bill, with plans of letting the bill go to collections. This was about 3 months ago and I have not had any issues. I am pretty sure that unpaid balances are tied to the sim card and not the phones esn.

Pretty sure this is correct. You can look up countless videos on YouTube about this very issue. They usually just pop a new Sim in and its all good to go.

These days bad ESN Verizon 4G phones are worth almost as much as clean ESN ones. You can always use an activated Verizon 4G sim in a verizon phone regardless of ESN status. If you go through Verizon for activation they will not activate it, but basically they can't stop you from using the hardware like the old days of 3G/pure CDMA hardware.
Good luck with your sale. If I were you I'd price it about $250 and it should sell like hotcakes.

I've set up 2 or 3 phones for friends by getting bad ESN examples from craigslist and using an existing VZW SIM with no problems, so I just wanted to chime in with an additional thumbs up.

No 4g after repair.

Okay I replaced my headphone jack successfully but in the process broke a little end off the antenna connector. Bought a replacement hooked it up and put it together. Put sim card in after 2 weeks of being on razr hd. Instant ability to make calls and 3g... but no 4g. Verizon tech says sim card is probably bad because they go bad quickly. On their end the sim hasnt updated in a week, the day I activated the razr. Is it possible something isnt hooked up from me taking it apart, sim cards going bad, or ... what yiu tgink guys? He recommends going in and having then replace sim.
Thanks in advance

I have. Switched to and from global from 4g/3g. The onoy thing was that the antenna cable I bought came from a different model note 2. Not the verizon one.. everyone I talked to said that should work .. that it's just a cable connecting the lower antenna to the upper or something. ..

Okay, I spent some time at verizon, got a new sim, and talked to a guy who seemed to know what was up. It's the cable. The new sim card wouldn't give me 4g either. The sprint replacement antenna wire is not going to work because of the 4g LTE I guess.. Thank you all for the help. I have another thread dedicated to finding a replacement antenna cord..

What Straight Talk option... CDMA or GSM, the procedure is very different and of varying degree of difficulty...
CDMA (Verizon/Sprint) - need a donor ST phone, and clone the ESN/MEID, plus tweaks in the radio settings. Unlocked or S-OFF and root required, 3G data possible, no 4G
GSM (AT&T/T-Mobile) - Edge (2G, around ~220kb/s) data possible out of box with no changes to phone except change radio mode and add APN setting. 3G/4G possible on AT&T only with pretty in depth modification of radio settings and some prop.build file edits, this is still in the works for a walk-thru, this also would require an unlocked bootloader or S-OFF and root.

if you want i can guide you on how to get straight talk working via a sim card and get 3g and very soon to come 4g....i too use straight talk and am developing on enabling 4g for all carriers....if you go with a sim there is a very certain sim card you have to get
@REV3NT3CH are you making a guide for it? It's going to cost me over $500 to switch to my own Verizon contract so I may switch to ST until I save up enough money.

The method to move it to Straight Talk w/Verizon towers is the relatively the same as moving a Rezound to PagePlus, follow that tutorial except substitute a Straight Talk 3G smartphone (instead of a PP phone) as a donor and program the Rezound accordingly.
If AT&T has service in your area and you are not comfortable with the heavy modifications required to do that, I would recommend moving to GSM service... get a Straight Talk AT&T GSM SIM and go from there. AT&T is recommended over T-Mobile as the frequecies used for higher speed data on T-Mobile are not compatible with the Rezzy.
Why is it going to cost you $500 to get out of your current contract? Honestly, unless because of service coverage you are forced to Verizon, drop them completely... A good GSM smartphone with HSPA+ can be had for well under $150 used, a new Nexus 5 will set you back $350, and a Straight Talk/AIO Wireless/AT&T Go Phone SIM card will run you $45-$60 per month, saving $40-$60 per month, easily paying for the phone in a just a few months.
Well I'm getting off my parents line and getting my own. Considering my lack of credit, Verizon is going to charge $400 for a security deposit, along with the first months bill. If I want to buy a phone that is on there too ($199 but I'll get $100 back). I have considered a gsm company, but up here in the mountains, Verizon is basically monopoly. All the other carrier's coverage is hit and miss.

Actually, for that kind of money I would look at some of the ZTE, LG, or Samsung phones that Straight Talk has that are CDMA (Verizon) based, for under $200 you can get ST phone that will just work (sometimes using Verizon ST on a flashed phone isn't the most reliable for all services) with Jellybean. ZTE are not the best phones, but they are not crap either, a friend has the ZTE Solar and loves it... Plus you will still save $50/month over a traditional VZW plan.

The S3 is nice, but at $399 its a little steep, although you might be able to get one on eBay for around $320 or so. The ZTE Solar is $179 online, 4.5" display, dual core 1.2ghz, 768MB ram, and JB 4.1. Not super impressive, but acceptable.
EDIT: Nevermind... it seems the Straight Talk ZTE phones are all GSM, not Verizon based, it has a SIM card when I looked at my friends this morning. Guess I was barking up the wrong tree the whole time. :/
No problem, I appreciate the input! I wish st would get the S4 already

Ah... gotcha... Out of the box you will only get Edge, the radios in the Rezound are not tuned for US GSM frequencies.
HSPA(+) is possible in some instances with significant tweaks to the build.prop file and radio NV settings, not a procedure to be taken lightly... And the signal has to be really good or it won't work... I mean REALLY good... This is @REV3NT3CH area of expertise, I'll tag him and hopefully he can be of assistance.
