im new on xda n i observed that the development on mediatek powered devices are highly pain staking.
N also there are issues with kernel sources of mtk devices. So whats the reason behind this????????

the reason behind these is mediatek does not go for open sources so due to these we do not have cm ,aokp n all roms :good:

It is because they have completely different hardware: board, CPU, GPU, everything.

Oh....Thanks
Hey, I want to ask that whether we can PORT CM10.2 or Android 4.3 to our Sony Xperia P if it is available on another device having almost same specifications? The other device have same resolution, same amount of RAM, a dual core processor but of higher quality, same MP camera, same internal memory which is not expandable. So can we PORT the ROM if we have the permission of the developer and know how to PORT it? Or it would create some problems? The other ROM is stable.
If it's not novathor chipset, no.

Any specific reason behind it? Does it mean NovaThor cannot run 4.3? Or anything else?

And what if, phones running on same chipset and processor but having different resolutions and camera?
The chipset cintains the cpu (STE-U8500) ram(different devices have different ram speeds) and the gpu (mali-400mp) xperia p, u, sola, go use novathor u8500 chipset.

Ya I know that, I am asking whether we can port a ROM from a device having same chipset but different screen resolution and camera? Take for example, can we a port a ROM from Samsung Galaxy S Advance to Sony Xperia P?

Some devs MIGHT be able to do it if they have the source code, but with bugs.

Suppose two phones... eg:- Huawei Ascend Y300 and HTC One X both of which have the SOC Qualcomm S4 play MSM8225.
Now my question is because they have the same SOC's is it easier to port ROMS between the two?

Well you can only port roms between phones with the same SoC...
And only if both have the same Android OS version...
I dont know those models, but check the guides here @ XDA How to port roms.

Despite Texas Instrument has closed, it has just released the new binaries for the chipset of galaxy nexus, brother of the one mounted in our razr. I hope that this information can be useful to developers, good luck and long live to Razr

It's great news, but, unfortunately, you've posted it in the wrong section. The "Development" section is the place for threads about ROMs, Kernels, and Android Software development. Those kind of informative threads should be posted on "General" section.

Since the Nexus is also OMAP 4, would that mean roms/kernels for that device would work on the RAZR?

I'm on it guys. WIll update it in the kernel - shouldn't be a problem, but have to do some backport work.

EDIT: No need for this - we have it since 8 months in the kernel - and it's newer than GNEX ones:
GNEX: [email protected]
RAZR: [email protected]
That's just because Gnex users have 4460 - we have 4430. I guess the're using different binaries.
Check in TErminal:

Google does not update SGX DDK binaries(kern module and userspace libs) since 4.0.4. Motorola do that for its 4.1.2 release. So GPU drivers definitely newer on Razr. But this will not solve 4.4 issues xD

Of course I've seen it
Regarding to hacking OMAP: Could you help me with the ducati binary? Need to fix it for use with modified kernel - but as you might know - it's closed source precompiled by Big Moto. The most highest supported kernel version is 3.0.88. Any idea how to make it better? Currently we have working 720p video recording - with some minor issues like Gallery FCs after saving the video file, and 1080p works with random lags sometimes - sometimes it works without any problem.
And what do you know about the HDMI drivers?
---------- Post added at 01:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:40 PM ----------
With the attached mod in JBX Thread (last page) I am able to record 710p videos on 4.4 WITHOUT any issues. Using the Moto X cam!
Now who want can porto a stable version for nexus5, but this post, is not to brake developers balls, but because i want to know if the problem to port is in the kernel.
The kernel is the problem

Still trying to understand this. All these phones are getting ports but there are people saying we need a whole new kernel. Yet the bigger devs are supposedly already working on a port?
Jackpotclalvin got lollipop to boot on the Verizon g2! No ROM yet, but eventually its gonna happen. Be sure to thank him for his hard work too!

Yeah I don't know either, wish a Dev could explain this to me... The Optimum G has a mostly functioning Lollipop ROM according to a post I saw on G+ yesterday... Why would it be harder to build for us? Especially since so much of our hardware is similar to the Nexus 5...

You do not need a 5.0 kernel for the G2, older devices have newer versions of android w/o having the corresponding source. I'm using 4.4.4 on my Galaxy S1 just like my G2 (except the S1 obviously didn't receive 4.4.x).
